The High Harper wasn’t flirting either. Sources all said she was the frigid type, a real all-business kind of woman, aged by loss and almost all her life on the job, so that part hadn’t caught Idalia off guard too much. What she did notice was that the High Harper watched Thea like a hawk, not with the eyes of a seasoned professional, but in that way Thea watched a pretty girl. The eat-you-up sort of want. (In which Jaheira's investigations as High Harper bring her to a situation that is both politically absurd and emotionally complicated.)

"Comfort food" for John!

“What’s this?” John asked as he accepted the oversized mug from Tom.

“Rosol.” 

“Ro-soow?” John repeated curiously. Tom nodded as he sat on the bed next to him. 

“Polish chicken soup, one of a handful of my go-to comfort foods. It always makes me feel better if I’m sick or feeling down.”

“I’m not sick.” John stated plainly, the warmth from the ceramic slowly soaking through his hands. It felt nice. 

 “No, but you’ve been more reserved than usual today, even for you. And even if you weren’t, I still wanted to make it for you.” Tom added before he could protest. 

He peered into the mug and contemplated the golden broth, with chunks of chicken and carrot, noodles, and some stringy herb floating in it. It smelled delicious as he lifted the mug to take a sip, and it tasted even better; warm, salty and with a surprisingly zesty depth of flavor. John sighed as the warmth settled in his chest and belly, some of the tension he’d been holding melting away as he settled himself more comfortably on the bed.

“Well?” Tom asked with a gentle smile. “Does it pass muster?” 

John blinked as his thoughts came back to the present.

“Yes. It’s good.” 

Tom’s smile widened, slightly lopsided as it did whenever he was genuinely happy about something. As he got up to (presumably) serve himself, John let his thoughts drift again. As he pondered the concept of ‘comfort food’, he noticed the slight ache in his hands was gone.

4. Over a cup of tea

there’s nothing that makes this part of the comic reboot, but it’s where my head is at. canon alive g/j 4evs!

Rupert looked at the Starbucks to-go cup. Then he looked at Jenny. Then he looked at the Starbucks to-go cup again, as if he might be able to make it disappear by sheer force of hatred alone.

“Do not,” said Jenny. “Do not be a tea snob right now. I made a special stop on the way to school to get you a cup of tea--”

“A to-go cup isn’t a cup of tea, Jenny,” said Rupert, quietly and almost involuntarily. “And a Starbucks to-go cup is really just glorified hot water.”

“Jesus,” said Jenny. “See if I ever do anything nice for you again.” She sat down in front of him at the staff table, taking back the to-go cup. “Lucky thing I ordered coffee, huh?”

Rupert blinked, eyes snapping up to hers. “What?”

“Lucky thing I ordered coffee,” Jenny repeated, grinning, “and brought you the tea from that special place downtown you like.” Pulling the thermos out of her bag, she slid it across the table to a wide-eyed Rupert. “So in case you were worried--”

“I love you,” said Rupert. He sounded kind of stunned. Whether his astonishment stemmed from the fact that Jenny drank Starbucks coffee, the fact that she’d made an extra stop and come in late to school to get him tea, or the fact that he’d never said the words before, Jenny couldn’t say, because she was suddenly too happy for critical thought.

She opened her mouth, cheeks flaming, and closed it again.

“Oh,” said Rupert, misinterpreting. His eyes darted down to his hands, ashamed. “That is. Um--”

"Oh, no, I love you too!” said Jenny, blurting it out exactly as she thought it for the very first time. And at the way Rupert’s eyes widened, then softened--at the rush of warmth she felt in response--she was so damn glad she’d said it.

Who would holds hands while walking: Honestly it’s a 50/50 chance of these dorks initiating hand-holding. They do it a lot

Who would start a snowball fight: Carter, because he’s a jackass

Who would buy cheezy cliche gifts for each other on holidays: Carter, the sentimental dorky sap

Who would start an argument about what color curtains they should have at home: Carter, because Artemis has no fucking taste XD

Who would remember their anniversary: Both of them remember it as well as the other, because they have enhanced memories, and dates hold strong importance for the both of them

Who would blurt out how much they love the other in front of people: Artemis, because she really can’t stop saying it, and never means it any less the more she says it

Who would offer to wash the others back in the shower: Once again, 50/50 chance, especially if one of them is injured

Who would post up statuses about the other on Facebook Waypoint: Once in a blue moon they’ll post something to the Infinity’s Waypoint forums. It keeps Roland & Lasky happy; they like being updated on probably their fave couple ever ( it is canon that Roland & Lasky both ship Artemis & Carter )

Who would have the others picture as their phone background: Pfff ff ffff...... Definitely both of them. Artemis already has a picture of all of NOBLE together as her datapad background, and that was before she & Carter became an Item. Of course the images on their phones are the same image; some heroic pose with cheesy grins on their grimy faces with fresh wear & tear on their armour

Who would take pictures of the other while they’re sleeping: Neither of them, simply because Jun and Kat, the family gremlins, are the ones to do so instead XDD
