when you have another idea for an fic but you don't have the time to write it
#it's sort of a Lost Boys au but really focuses on the Wicker kids in general#specifically Jacob Jocelyn Jedidiah and Johanna#(mostly because they have the most there character wise but I digress)#They're all a few years (5 or so) older but Jacob and Joshua are still the only siblings to have moved out#Jocelyn wants to but she's essentially become Jessica's primary caretaker and is reliant on her mom for college#Jacob and Percy are dating and live together and most of Jacob's sibling know but his mom doesn't she just think they're normal roomates#and Jacob has siblings stay with him often but especially Jed and Johanna (who are also good friends with Percy's brother (Al))#also Jed's probably some flavour of nonbinary I haven't decided yet#I have a vague plot idea#there'd be a lot of drama#as there is with large family's

Mystery solved:
IT WAS JOHANNAH WICKER I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT OF COURSE IT’S SO EASY TO REINTERPRET THE SONGS TO BE ABOUT HER!
(And also the last time I spoke to them about hfth was when I was drawing Johannah)
(My sleep has been interrupted by this)
(It’s 10am but I might go back to sleep)
(Or maybe I’ll finish these songs)
I write songs sometimes
Sent some wips to a friend.
Was told: these remind me of that character you were talking about the other day
Cannot figure out which character. All I know is: the one from that podcast you’re always on about (Hello from the Hallowoods).
This is driving me insane, closest I can think is Percy but friend swears it’s not him and had no idea that hfth even had ghosts.
#my friend pointed to some specific lines that reminded them of what I’d been talking about#it makes so much sense now#esp the second song (If Mrs Wicker was dead at least)#now I think about it the first song just has Hallowoods vibes#and the second one just has Wicker vibes#but specifically wicker daughter vibes#maybe jed since I thought Jedidiah was a ‘girl’ name and missed the ‘he’s in the show so now my brain doesn’t confine Jed to any gender norm#if Jacob wanted to wear a dress he absolutely would but I don’t think he’d want to#(wearing a dress and being really uncomfortable in the dress is kinda the plot of the second song)#hfth#Johannah wicker

Notes:
Here are some horror movies people will say are good but in fact they are garbage so save yourself: The Haunting (1963), The Babadook, Goodnight Mommy, anything classified as New French Extremism, any of the Paranormal Activity films, Cannibal Holocaust, A Serbian Film, Where the Dead Go to Die, Terrifier, Hostel and its sequels
Grave Encounters 2 may be the worst sequel I have ever sat through, with Sinister 2 a close second. I’ve never seen any of the Saw sequels.
You can also watch the 70s Suspiria for its gorgeous visuals and score but don’t expect coherence or plot or character development
If you’re wondering why I didn’t include such and such film here, if it’s not on the recommended list or the do not watch list the odds are good I haven’t seen it

Summary:
Ten years have passed since those fateful visitations, and Ebenezer Scrooge finally casts off his life as a mortal to ascend to the afterlife. Yet this is not the end of his tale, for Jacob Marley comes with a proposal he wouldn't dare to refuse.
Now learning how to harness his newfound abilities, the former miser must now prepare himself to defend the both the living and the dead, wielding the chains he cast aside to collect the rebellious souls who dare to harm either realm alongside the spectres who once guided him... with some unfamiliar spirits.
Needless to say, Scrooge has quite the journey ahead of him.
[SNIPPET UNDER THE CUT]
"What... What brings you here, Future?" Scrooge mentally cursed himself for the quiver in his voice. Future was a friend, for God's sake, he did not need to feel so nervous! But still, the ghost remained mute, their orbs flickering with a hint of amusement as their bony hand pointed to him. It felt a bit foolish for Scrooge to look around to see if they were pointing at someone else, but he soon had to realise that Future was pointing at him specifically.
"Do you... need me for something?" He asked quizzically, his unease giving way to curiosity. Future gave a nod that would have been imperceptible were it not for the subtle movement of their hood. Scrooge wanted to ask what the Entis wanted from him, but soon noticed a wicker basket of sorts in his free hand.
"You want me to go shopping with you?"
They nodded.
"Well I don't see why not! Where to, then? The poulterer's?"
They shook their head.
"The grocer's?"
Again, another shake of their head.
"The... stationer's?"
Scrooge furrowed his brow as they shook their head again, struggling to comprehend what his silent friend was suggesting. Future floated over and pointed to him once again, this time to his clothes.
"I'm confused, I- my clothes?"
The denial this time had a hint of something else. Despite his rising frustration, he felt that he was getting close. He was sure of it. “Could you perhaps give me a hint? I'm afraid I'm not very good at guessing games."
Future seemed to consider this for a moment, their orbs flickering in thought. Finally, they raised their hand and mimed sewing, their fingers moving in a circular motion as if holding a needle and thread.
"Sewing... clothes... of course! The draper's!" Scrooge slapped a hand to his forehead and chuckled, feeling somewhat idiotic for not realising it sooner. “You want to go fabric shopping! God, I feel foolish!"

Blog Post #5- Scavenger Hunt!
1. Our first stop, rue François 1er, was located in the 8th arrondissement. Once we emerged from the metro in order to get to our destination, we were able to walk through the beautiful Champs Élysées on our way. It was lined with massive, pruned trees and the warm May sun beamed down on us. As we turned left off of the Champs Élysées, we noticed many luxury cars passing by and Parisians wearing bougie clothing bustling down the street. The buildings were all in pristine condition with beautiful architecture and it rapidly became evident that we had entered an extremely wealthy neighborhood. We passed by stores such as Versace, Gucci, Tiffany, Dior, and Chanel. After we had walked a few blocks, we came across rue Francois 1er and noticed the fancy engraving on the Paco Robanne store, marking the street.

2. For our second stop, we traveled to the 6th arrondissement and visited the Church of Saint Sulpice. As we walked up the steps and through the grand doors of the church, we were amazed by the sheer height of the ceilings and incredible architecture. The massive Roman Catholic church was filled with endless rows of small, wicker seated chairs and adorned with beautiful murals and candles for prayer. The specific murals we were directed to seek out were titled “Jacob Wrestling with the Angel” and “Heliodones Driven from the Temple” by Eugene Delacroix. They were both located immediately to our right upon walking into the church. “Jacob Wrestling with the Angel”, a stunning romantic style painting, depicted the struggle between Jacob and his internal desires. “Heliodones Driven from the Temple”, another romantic mural by Delacroix, depicts Heliodorus, the minister of Syria, and soldiers in an attempt to confiscate riches from the temple of Jerusalem. We were amazed by the detailed and colorful biblical scenes depicted in the beautiful murals by Delacroix.

3. Our third stop, located in the 5th arrondissement, was to view a mural by Pierre Alechinsky illustrating the poem “L’arbre des rues” by Yves Bonnefoy. After emerging from the metro and utilizing Google Maps to walk for a few minutes, we found the large blue and white mural on the side of a building. The mural displayed a large, rectangular box with many smaller boxes surrounding its edges. In the central rectangle, a tall, blue tree with many branches was displayed. Some of the outer boxes included more trees and arch-like structures. The size and color contrast of the abstract design immediately caught my attention as we rounded the last corner to view the mural. The poem, written in French by Pierre Alechinsky, is also displayed to the right of the mural. It is a beautiful sight for any passer-by and worth stopping to take a peek!

4. Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, who first met as philosophy students in Paris in 1929, formed a unique bond that defied societal conventions of the time. Despite falling in love, they chose not to enter into traditional marriage and instead embraced an open relationship, a concept considered unconventional during that era. Sartre, a French philosopher and writer, gained recognition for his groundbreaking ideas on existentialism, which centered around human freedom, responsibility, and the absence of inherent meaning in life. Similarly, Simone de Beauvoir, an esteemed philosopher, novelist, and feminist thinker, made significant contributions through her influential work "The Second Sex," an exploration of gender roles within society. Both Sartre and Beauvoir advocated for individual autonomy and social equity, and their unconventional relationship reflected these ideals. In death, they rest side by side at Montparnasse Cemetery, symbolizing their enduring connection.

5. The "Pont Tournant de la Grange aux Belles" refers to a specific bridge located on the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris, France. "Pont Tournant" translates to "Swing Bridge" in English. This type of bridge is designed to pivot horizontally, allowing boats and watercraft to pass through. The Pont Tournant de la Grange aux Belles is a notable feature along the Canal Saint-Martin, a picturesque waterway that stretches through several neighborhoods in Paris. The swing bridge provides a connection for pedestrians and vehicles, while also accommodating the passage of boats and barges. It serves as a charming and functional element within the scenic canal landscape, attracting locals and visitors alike.

6. The Parc de Belleville, one of the parks and gardens in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. Up until the 18th century, Belleville was rural, characterized by farms, windmills, and outdoor cafes. The village, which eventually became a haven for people of modest resources displaced from Paris due to Haussman's urban transformations in the late 19th century, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent times. Situated atop Belleville hill, the Belleville Park, constructed in 1988, provides an unobstructed panoramic view of the capital city. The Parc de Belleville is located on the hill of Belleville, its 108 meters making it the highest park in Paris. The hill is also known to grow grapes used for wine making, “Evidence of the area's wine-producing past, the park also has 140 vines, which each produce around 2 to 3 kilos of grapes.

7. This stop was the century-old rats in the window of Julien Aurouze and Co., in the 1st arrondissement. When reading this clue I was expecting to find stained glass windows with art work of rats in them, but I instead was met with a fun surprise of actual dead rats hanging in the windows! Aside from this shocking discovery, this building was very charming and had lots of character. Its iconic green facade and gold lettering reading “Destruction des Animaux Nuisibles' ', which means “destruction of harmful animals' ', looked a bit familiar. After doing some research, I found that this is because it is featured in the movie Ratatouille! This shop is shown in the movie when Remy’s dad tells him that humans are dangerous and that he should stay away from them (Krull). While it is an iconic spot, it is still a working and operating pest control shop.

8. This next stop was very easy to check off the list, as it was right across the metro tracks when we got off at Bastille! Just above this metro station, is the Place de la Bastille, which used to house the Bastille prison. The Bastille prison was raided in the 1789 French Revolution by French radicals to collect guns and other materials used in the resistance. During the storming of the Prison and the revolution as a whole, the Bastille was destroyed and there was no trace left of this iconic building. This place is still a place of remembrance and a symbol of French liberty and democracy. The Bastille seemingly had nothing left of it until 1899, when construction on the metro stations began, and the foundations of this building were discovered and now are on display in the Bastille metro station (Parcours Révolution).

9. Our final stop was not something that we went out of our way to find. Our instructions were to find any North African or Middle Eastern food in a grocery store, market, food stand etc. While we were on our way to Parc de Belleville, we walked along a street that was filled with all different types of shops and markets. On this street we found Massama Delices, which serves all types of African foods, including Alloco Chicken and Maffe Rice. Because it was so early in the morning, it was not open at that time, however we were able to see some of the dishes they offer on the window. This area had very diverse food and shopping options and I am very happy we were able to explore!

Numbers 36:1 - Deuteronomy 1:46, Luke 5:29-6:11, Psalms 66:1-20, Proverbs 11:24-26
Today is the 23rd day of March. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It's great to be here with you today. I can't believe we are this deep into March. I can't believe this is deep into the year, but I can, I mean, this is like, the years go by and should start getting used to it but some days I sit down here and look at the calendar and look at where we are in the year and look at where we are in the week and it just like takes my breath away. How did we get here so quickly? So, today we’re gonna read from the God's Word Translation, which is what we've been doing all week, but we will also conclude the book of Numbers today and move into the book of Deuteronomy, which is the final book of the Torah and we'll talk about that when we get there, but before that, let's conclude the book of Numbers by reading Numbers chapter 36 today.
Introduction to the book of Deuteronomy:
Okay. So, that concludes the book of Numbers, which brings us to the final book in the Pentateuch, of the Torah, the book of Deuteronomy, which literally means second law. And we may feel like we’re going through again some additional redundant review as if maybe we've already read this, but we haven't. What's happening is that the leadership is about to change, and a new generation has emerged, and an old generation has passed away. They’ve been wandering around for 40 years. An entire generation that came out of slavery has passed away. Moses's brother Aaron has died. Moses sister Miriam has died. Moses is the only one left in his family and he’s leading Israel, but he will not be leading Israel across the Jordan River into the promised land. Joshua will become the leader in Moses stead and will lead the people into the land of promise. Moses will stay on the eastern side of the Jordan River and die there. So, as we move into the book of Deuteronomy what we will be reading is essentially three different discourses, like three different talks that Moses gave to the entire community of Israel. These are his parting words. And, so, yes, a bunch of this will be review, but think about it. Think about the story of Moses, right? He’d been put in a wicker basket and put in the river and being raised by Pharaoh's daughter being raised by his own mother and then killing an Egyptian and fleeing. Remember all of the drama of the story? The burning bush, he comes back, all of the signs and wonders, the plagues on Egypt, the going through the Red Sea. This is all under Moses leadership, right? So, it has been epic since we met Moses as if it weren't epic before that. But Moses has carried a significant burden and carrying these people and overseeing the change in shift of identity from slave to chosen he’s endured much. He's given his life to these people under God's command and he's not going to be going forward with them. He’s actually going to be taking steps backward and he's going to become a part of their history as they move forward into their future. So, of course, you would have some final things that he would need, that he would feel compelled to say. That’s what we’re reading in the book of Deuteronomy. So, if we understand that then we can gather with the children of Israel because we’ve been wandering around and watching their story take place over centuries of time. Like, we have never been in the promised land yet in the Scriptures, we haven’t crossed the Jordan, this has just been a mythic place since we wandered around it with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. When we move out of the book of Deuteronomy we’re going to be moving forward with the children of Israel. So, we’re here kind of at the banks of the Jordan River gathered around listening to what Moses feels is absolutely pivotal and critical for the people to hear before they move forward and before he disappears. And there is a lot to apply to our own lives as we consider our own moving forward. So, with all of that said, we begin the book of Deuteronomy chapter 1.
Prayer:
Thank You, Father for another week in Your word. Thank You for bringing us all the way this far into the Old Testament to the final book of the law, the final book of the Torah. And as we review, as we listen to Moses words, his final words of counsel, we invite Your Holy Spirit to speak into our own lives. And as we prepare to move into a new week and spend another week at Your side Jesus as we continue to move through the gospel of Luke, we invite Your Holy Spirit to draw us deeper into relationship and intimacy with You. This is what we see, this is what were after - friendship, intimacy, relationship with You and You alone. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Good morning Daily Audio Bible family, it’s Mary Lynn from New Brunswick calling again, and I just want to give a sincere heart felt thank you to Tim from Tampa and Kristi from Kentucky for your prayers. Terry the trucker said it the other day, you know people are praying for you but when you hear your name called out it’s is just very emotional. So, thank you so much. The other thing that I wanted to just talk about was, I heard a couple people saying how that it’s difficult to get through the community prayer and I can understand that being daunting sometimes, a three hour podcast, but for me, I’m a self-employed housekeeper, I do two residential clients a day and I have my beautiful headset that my husband bought me for Christmas it’s Bluetooth and I plug that thing in and I’m actually halfway through my fourth time through this past week’s community prayer. And I don’t have a chance to call in and pray openly for all of you, but I wanted you to know that every single one of you, not just in words, every one of your prayers has been prayed for by me as I hear them online. Its…for me it’s a way of focusing my mind and not allowing the world to get ahold of my thoughts and to take them down the wrong direction. So, I just want to know that I truly do pray for every one of you. I hear so many people talking about their addictions and their struggles and I can honestly say that right now my addiction has become the community prayer. I cannot get enough of it. And, so, I thank you Brian and your family for putting that together. I can’t even imagine the work that must entail but thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom I my heart. And as I vacuum this house for the rest of the afternoon know that you are all being prayed for. God bless, and I do love each and every one of you. Thank you.
Good afternoon DABbers I need to come to you tonight in prayer for my relationship. I’ve made several moves. I’ve relocated for this man and a lot of things that my spirit and my good instinct tells me not to. And I just ask for prayer. Found some things tonight that broke my heart and I’m heartbroken, so heartbroken. I constantly try to seek God on which way to go and I just feel so hurt and I just ask you all to pray for me and ask God to help me guide me where I need to be and give me the strength to get there. I have nothing right now and I’m scared, and I only knew to call and ask for prayer. I feel hopeless and I feel numb and all the things that I’ve given up for this relationship I feel so ridiculously stupid and blinded. So, I ask for your prayers and I ask God to open doors for me in the location we’re I need to be and a job and just to get back on my feet and look forward and not look back anymore, not look back to this relationship anymore. I thank you all and thank you for listening and thank you for praying and I’ll be praying for each of you as well.
God bless Kristi from Kentucky in Jesus’ name amen. I have no idea why the Holy Spirit will not leave me alone about Kristi from Kentucky. Even before I began listening to the Daily Audio Bible for tonight the name Kristi from Kentucky just kept ringing in my head and I don’t even know why. I don’t even remember a specific reason. I don’t know but now I’m listening to the community prayer, most recent community prayer, and I’m not able to make it through the entire thing because Kristi from Kentucky name keeps popping up in my head. So, I don’t know what it is, what you need, or whatever, but I pray that the Lord blesses you indeed with whatever you need at this very moment that you’re hearing this. I love you and I pray continuously for all of you. Sean 316.
Hi Daily Audio Bible family, this is Salvation is Mine in San Leandro California. it is Wednesday, March 20th I believe. I just wanted to call in because I haven’t called in in a very long time and I am listening and hearing your prayers and I wanted to just pray for you all and ask God to work a miracle in your lives because he is there for us even sometimes when we don’t feel Him. So, heavenly Father I come before You now standing in the gap for the Daily Audio Bible family, for those who call in, those who don’t call in, those who are calling for prayer and those who call in and pray for others. Help us to feel Your presence through those prayers. Help us to realize that You listen to every…every prayer Lord God whether it’s a praise report or whether we’re just struggling Lord God. And there’s so many of us struggling that we just need You Lord God to come in and put a word down in our Spirit, to cleanse our soul, to clean out our years from all the noise and the hustle and bustle of our daily life that seems to be so hard and that we focus on so much that we don’t hear You. Open up our years Lord God, open up our hearts, open up our minds to receive a word from You even if it’s just to say I’m there. Give us comfort in that Lord God. Help us to realize that You are our Savior, that You sent Your son Jesus Christ to love on us in a way that we can barely understand sometimes but that You are there for us. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ and His Father God. Daily Audio Bible God bless you, God keep you, have a great day. Bye-bye.

The Rope
(When I was seventeen, I traveled alone to Ireland and stayed several months. The trip was full of small miracles. First I met Gloria, a great traveling companion; then we met the balloon people.)
As the bus swung into the village square in Ballymahon, I looked out the window and saw two perfect orange-and-blue striped teardrops floating on the horizon in the moist glow of twilight. We found a guesthouse, threw our bags in our room and walked and hitched a few miles further along to a large estate. The green grass, lit by the falling sun, was littered with silver Bentleys and Mercedes and Range Rovers hitched to small trailers filled with big wicker baskets and coiled ropes. We could hear music from the house, so we simply walked into the drawing room. A small crowd was gathered, drinks in many people’s hands. A half-dozen young men sang around a grand piano.
We introduced ourselves to the first people who turned our way, a booming well-fed man named Chris Mullin and his wife Gay, an impeccably dressed pale woman. They were from Tucson and they took our sudden and rather rumpled appearance as normal; perhaps it was to balloonists. Gay disappeared a moment, and then returned.
“I’ve got you seats at the table,” she said. The 4th Irish Balloon Meet was almost over, she added. They'd run races, competing to see who could get to a pub fastest after ten miles of flight and which basket could hover at a designated altitude for a specific length of time. Of eighteen teams, four balloons had scratched out due to accidents and one had been destroyed and so it had been altogether a good week of flying. Gay took us around the room to meet the pilots, who named their balloons like wives: Denny Crawford, who flew Tulip and had damaged his balloon by crashing into a bog, and Ian Jacobs of the balloon Godolphin, who clutched a trophy, and young Mike Adams, excitable and glad—"I’m with Clarklift! Glad to meet you!" Finally, she introduced us to a handsome silver-haired man named Cyril Murray, a member of the young Dublin Ballooning Club.
At dinner, I only wanted to talk about flying. How could I learn to do this?
“You’re not far from the big man, you know,” Chris told me. "Don Piccard. He was here earlier but left a few days ago. He has a factory in Roscommon. A balloon factory.” Even I had heard the name Piccard, in some vague weather-related way.
"Do call us when you get to Dublin," said Murray’s English wife, Rita, writing down the number. “Perhaps we can go up.” She meant up in the sky, and I could barely breathe.
"Come back in the morning," said Chris, expansive, swinging his glass in a wave. "And call Piccard, if you're interested. He's always looking for help."
We were up early the next morning, walking to the chilly meadow through the last strands of mist. What seemed to be an acre of glowing white and blue nylon was already spread across the grass, surrounded by busy people who nodded and bent back to work. Stand here, someone said; hold this, and I leaned against a thick rope, feet slipping on the wet dawn grass in the shocking roar of propane burners, the loud flap and snap of nylon as the gigantic envelope began to fill and shimmy like a waking beast. Suddenly the balloon was off the ground and the thick wicker basket stood up and bounced, fell and bounced again as two people clambered aboard. "Now!" I heard someone shout and felt the harsh rope shoot out of my hand as the basket fled into the pale sky.

I know that I’m going to sound biased here and I probably am but I am CONVINCED that Jedidiah Wicker *specifically* is going to become a prominent character in a future season. It might be season 5, it might be later, idk, but the way that his character has been set up is so different from the other kids because from that opening scene in season 2 when he and Johannah encounter Dimes, there is something that distinctly sets him apart from his siblings and I’m pretty sure that even in season 4 Valerie notices that he seems more apologetic than Jacob and Johannah than causing a disturbance (episode 158) about causing a disruption. Anyways this all feels like a setup for something and if we don’t get payoff at some point I’ll be genuinely surprised and honestly a little disappointed.
#I’m normal about him (don’t look at my blog)#But like if Mx Wellman gives him more screen time I think I’d owe them my life#hello from the hallowoods#hfth#hfth theory#I think#Jedidiah Wicker

“Cardiff In The Abstract” was a exhibition/concert that I put on on June the 29th 2017 at Jacob’s Market, made up of work by 8 composers and 8 artists. The reason that I chose to hold an exhibition about Cardiff was partly because of the gallery space itself with it’s lush acoustic, windows looking out on southern and eastern Cardiff and its roof garden, both of which bring you closer to your surroundings and making the city as a singular place visible. As Cardiff is a big city and it could be quite overwhelming as stimulus for an artist, I encouraged people to focus on a street, park or neighborhood so that collectively we could paint a larger, more detailed picture of the city made up of it’s parts. Another concept that I had to work with was the relationship between composers and artists and how their work would reflect the place in different ways. To make the relationship between composer, artist and place more interesting, each composer was paired up with an artist to share ideas with and collaborate with on creating an abstract representation of a specific place in Cardiff.
There is a long tradition of representing a place through abstraction in both music (inherently) and in 20th century art. When I considered what an exhibition of abstract pieces representing a place would look/sound like I listen to and looked at my favorite pieces that have aims towards similar ends. This has always seemed to me to be an objective that is shared in the work of American composers ( i.e. Ives, JLA, Reich, Varese) and so for much of my research I explored this aspect of American music more deeply. I began to realize that abstracting a place into music is not a far shot from the conventional tradition of pastoral music which provided me with additional musical direction for myself and the exhibition in general.
Coincidentally at the time that I was planning this there was a large exhibition of Gillian Ayres at the Welsh Nation Gallery. Her work was hugely influenced by the landscapes of North Wales which I myself have found as a source of inspiration in the past. I found the way that Ayres had produced a large body of work about one locale very inspiring.
I was impressed by the work of artists and composers across the board and proud of the collaborative process that had taken place to make the exhibition such a success. There were a few things that almost every piece of art had in common that I found particularly interesting. Firstly the fact that everyone’s work was made up of smaller pieces, either combined to make one whole or presented as individual objects or details and the second this
In the work of Polly Thomas-Colquhoun (see work below) both of these variants were displayed on the left she displayed a detail of Womanby street in vibrant colors, to the right of it she placed what seem almost like details of the colors and textures that are included in the street scene, like she put the painting under a microscope and enlarged its smallest components, making the city the subject and its surrounding “details” an illustration of the thought behind her work. To the right she presented simple casts of textures found on Womanby street in an almost archeological way, encouraging you to examine them individually. I think that Polly’s work captured the particular vibrancy and historical complexity of this street in an effective way. Polly’s partner Derri Lewis did an equally impressive job in the way he juxtaposed his “religioso” section and his “furrioso” section, perhaps representing Womamby street’s quieter past with its energetic present.
Another collaboration that I saw as particularly successful was between Maja Palser and Jack Skivens, their work focussed on Cardiff Market and Jack’s title “Portrait Of The Market As An Old Man” implied an emphasis on Cardiff Markets inevitable gentrification. Maja’s piece was a lush spectral wash that exuded the same sense of age that Jack’s painting did. It’s slow pace and sense of stillness made it a difficult and engaging piece to listen to while not being so grating that you lose attention. The details and variants in timbre make the consistency of the piece engaging and encourage one to clearly witness its harmonic shape.
List of pieces I found particularly interesting while considering this exhibition
Three Places In New England – Charles Ives
In A Landscape – John Cage
Abstract Composition – Gillian Ayres
Guernica – Pablo Picasso
Wicker Park – Marcos Balter
In The White Silence – John Luther Adams
James McNeill Whistler – Nocturnes

Seeing The Men in Red play at home is really just half the fun, but not all Fire fans are able to see them anywhere else. To experience the joys of an Away Game by proxy, OTF contributor Jacob Peters provides us some background on Fire supporter group history on-the-road, established rivalries, and some footnotes on how to effectively criticize, troll, and generally enjoy Fire away games.
Sing in full voice. Hate with reason…
Toronto is kind of like an alternate reality Chicago. One in which we didn’t tear out our Streetcars in the 50s, decided to randomly insert “u’s” into our words unnecessarily, expanded Meigs Field into a discount airline hub, and never built the elevated portions of the “L”. It’s also an alternate reality in which the Chicago Fire built a stadium downtown adjacent to McCormick Place (this guy’s still holding onto that dream), and then we expanded it with an epic roof.
Toyota Park is nice, but this…drool
The bus trips to Toronto are legendary. From collectively booking a huge chunk of spaces in a hostel (or staying up all night instead to avoid paying for a hotel), to our bus driver being turned away at the border because she was wanted for a decades old crime in Ontario (we still made it to the match on time). Stories abound out of this trip, and we like to think it’s because there’s something inherently epic about dueling your doppelganger.
This isn’t a knock against the bus trips to Kansas City (mark your calendars for Basura Kansas, July 29th), or our invasions of the worst city in Ohio (2017 Round 2 on August 12th) — every bus trip is about forming bonds of friendship amongst your fellow supporters. What differs about Toronto trips is that we stay overnight, their money is partly see-through, and the liquor laws are just different enough to make things interesting. It’s a trip worth taking, especially if the schedule allows for a bus to run next year.
Burns — A Boring Name… and Stop Copying our Colours, Doppelganger:
And now we make fun of our opposition’s brand: Toronto FC is basic AF, but their brand isn’t offensively bad. It’s just frustrating that the best nickname their fans could muster is “Reds,” but that might be because Chicago was already were using “Men in Red” and “Maquina Roja.”
While Atlanta is the poster child for manufactured history this year, in 2007 TFC held that honor. This scarf isn’t as relevant as it once was, but it isn’t completely irrelevant… which is saying something, since it’s been around for about a decade.
Additionally, for the past two years their away jersey looks like they just painted a small blue stripe over the 2008-2009 Chicago Fire away kit and changed the sponsor.
Seriously.
We get that we are the ones who started making the doppelganger jokes but it looks like the designers over at Adidas got their precedent images mixed up because Toronto was the team with grey away kits and Chicago was the team with the big red stripe across our fronts in 2009. We get it: Toronto wants be a dynasty so they are copying things we did ten years ago. However, they should remember that they haven’t won anything of value other than the Nutrilite Pyramid Scheme Amway Canadian Championship — a tournament of five teams (like the Canadian version of the Carolina Challenge Cup Desert Diamond Cup Simple Invitational).
Sound of Sirens — Fire chants for Toronto:
The bus trip to Toronto last year resulted in a lot of chants specific to the day. So we won’t be suggesting anyone reprise the “We Love Moms” chant without the context that made it appropriate banter.
Instead, take that scarf off (pictured above) and yell the chant that it was inspired by:
“F*#k off Toronto FC, You ain’t got no history, Second Class City, Third Class Team, Fourth Class Fans and a S#!+ Country!”
Or just chant repeatedly “America’s Hat, America’s Hat…”
Watch Commander — Why You Should Tune In and Where to Watch the Game:
We completed a three game home stand and took seven points out of a possible nine. Now we are heading into three road matches against teams that have been ruthless at home the previous two years. Whether we regress to the mean or rewrite our narrative, it all starts Friday night.
Our normal bus to Toronto did not run this year because Friday evening games do not lend themselves to international bus convoys. You’re likely not one of the dozen or so who took of Friday to fly into Billy Bishop Airport and walk to BMO Field. So, consider getting out to a bar and watching with some fellow Fire fans. There are more options than ever—from official parties and established groups to growing partnerships and newfound startups.
“Official” Watch Parties
Schubas on Belmont/Southport. The “official” Section 8 Chicago watch party is going to be here this week, the same place the ISA board hold their meetings on the first Tuesday of every month. There will be a $4 surprise draft special.
Heineken Pub 97 at the Private Bank Fire Pitch (Talman just north of Addison). The Andell Holdings-owned Fire-branded complex will be hosting a watch party like they have been every game with $4 Heineken drafts and $7 Fire-Ritas. So if you love corporate cross-brand synergy, it’s a nice place to watch the game. Also great if you or one of your kids or family members have a rec soccer game on one of the adjacent fields that day.
Supporter Group Initiatives
Go Tavern on Armitage just east of Kedzie. It is a “slashie” (half bar, half liquor store), it has 24 drafts ranging from Bud to the rarest beer that Pipeworks or Off Color, both a few blocks away, have recently released. It is the neighborhood Fire bar (and Pub to Pitch Partner) for Logan Square and if you befriend one of the bartenders they do a dollar “depressed goalie” shot of Fireball every time the Fire score. This week Logan’s Squares will be hosting a Pupusa Watch Party in honor of Arturo Alvarez’s Salvadoran heritage, with the wonderful traditional stuffed tortillas supplied by Logan Square’s own El Guanaco.
Pub OK Irving Park Rd/Major Ave in Portage Park. A Polish neighborhood corner bar with booths & bar food befitting of this part of town. An emerging supporters group “Nation of Fire” is hosting a watch party for northwest side fans. They will have a raffle and chat about the Men in Red, while testing the waters for this as a potential new Fire bar.
The Others
North (Lakeview, North Center, Roscoe, Lakeview)
AJ Hudson’s at Grace/Ashland (Pub to Pitch Partner)
The Globe Pub near the Irving Park Brown Line just east of Damen (Pub to Pitch Partner)
The Atlantic Bar on Lincoln/Winnemac (Pub to Pitch Partner)
Northwest (Logan Square, Wicker/Bucktown/Ukie)
Cleo’s just east of Damen on Chicago (Pub to Pitch Partner)
City (River North, Loop, South Loop)
Fado on Grand/Clark (Pub to Pitch Partner)
Galway Arms on Clark/Arlington (Pub to Pitch Partner)
Kroll’s on 18th/Michigan (Pub to Pitch Partner)
La Birreria on the 2nd floor of Eataly at Ohio/Wabash
The Outer Limits
Rock Island Public House in Blue Island, 13328 Old Western Ave
If you live far north, south, or west and want to find a watch party near you, just ask around online or in the parking lot before games until you find some fans who live somewhat nearby. Scope out some nearby bars, find a friendly owner and start getting together. That’s all it takes. That’s what I did with some friends in Logan Square, and not only is it how we got a Pub to Pitch location from our hood, it’s also how I met the editor of this here blog. Forge Fire Friendships, they’re hard to burn out.
(P.S. This is going to be my first watch party of the season, & of course that means the game has been changed to an obscure channel instead of the normal CSN or CSN+)
Kickoff 6:30pm CT on CSN+2 Chicago (also known as COZI TV, see link for channel listings)
Engine Company: America’s Hat – A Tale of Chicago’s Evil Canadian Twin Seeing The Men in Red play at home is really just half the fun, but not all Fire fans are able to see them anywhere else.

ok I know I haven’t shut up about the Wickers today but honestly I’m really curious about what’s going on with Jedidiah. Like obviously he’s changed a lot over the time skip in ways that were kind of unexpected but also it seems like there’s some bad blood between him and Jacob and he’s literally the only Wicker who doesn’t use a gun. I feel like there’s something going on with him specifically that we don’t know about.

I don’t know what the wickers r but r they Queer
ok so they’re a family from Hello from the Hallowoods and none of them are canonically queer, however I tend to interpret a good few of them that way.
Mrs. Wicker is the mom and she ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. She’s the worst. I hate her and she deserves to burn in hell. She’s also very homophobic (canonically). There’s a small part of me, however, that like to interpret her as a repressed lesbian, though given that she has 8 kids I’m not sure I like the implications of that.
Oh her eight children I headcanon 4 of them to be queer. Specifically Jacob being bisexual, Jocelyn being a lesbian, Jedidiah being a trans girl, and Johanna being aromantic.

Putting together a list of traits I give to various Wicker kids to make them distinct from their siblings because I feel like it and also to prove that they don’t all have to look the same (I might add pictures later but for now yallre just getting words)
Jacob: Post-S2 you can always add a cane or crutch, but additionally I tend to give him a perpetually sunburnt face, some freckles, and a scar on his cheek from a nonspecific incident as a child. Bonus points if he looks uncannily like his mother.
Jocelyn: I draw her a lot, I tend to give her a more drawn face than Jacob with eye bags (courtesy of her mother) and a broken nose (courtesy of her father). As a teen I like to make her a little pale and unhealthily skinny with long slightly stringy hair that she usually keeps braided. As an adult I draw her with more vitality, more weight, and shorter hair. Sometimes I give her a lazy eye like her mom, sometimes not, it depends on how good I am at art that day. Again: Bonus points if she looks like her mom.
Joshua: I’ve drawn his once and it looks really bad, but I imagine him looking like Jacob just with a really shitty mullet.
Joel: Blonde??? He’s legitimately the only Wicker kids that I have zero headcanons about so idk
Jedidiah: As a kid they’re definitely missing some teeth and I generally draw them with a scar on their bottom lip from when they went after Johannah and a mole under their left eye just because. They don’t have as many freckles as the rest of their siblings and look more like their dad. If they went on estrogen they would look like (slightly blonder) Ethel Cain.
Johannah: Her hair is actually kind of wavy (unlike the rest of her siblings) and while I draw them all with big eyes hers are the most doll-like, they’re big with really thick blonde lashes and give her a kind of unsettling resting face. I also think she has the most freckles of all her siblings. As a kid I like to draw her with double braids and as an adult I like to give her a little red streak in her hair. (She definitely looks the most distinct of all of them)
Jemimah: I’ve sort of given her the OC treatment, considering that I’ve come up with a weirdly complex story for her despite her not even being actually mentioned by name in the podcast lol. Anyways, I think she’s the most feminine of all her sisters and that on its own sets her apart, but I specifically imagine her having little pigtail braids (even into adulthood) that she ties off with pink ribbons. Even as a kid she looks a lot like Jocelyn.
Jessica: As a baby, she looks like a baby. After the time skip though, she has shorter unkempt hair (sort of a grown out side shave) and is on the more sickly side because of a variety of health issues. She also a large birthmark on her face.
#I know nobody cares but I had fun writing this#I’m going to draw them all together one day but I’m too lazy to do it now#hfth#hfth headcanons#Jacob Wicker#Jocelyn Wicker#Jedidiah Wicker#Johannah Wicker#only tagging those four because they’re the only ones that do anything#(Other than Josh but I’m not sure if getting murdered counts as doing anything)#hfth spoilers

What would you say are each of the wickers fursonas?
excellent question my dear friend.
I wasn’t 100% sure about Jacob at first, but he’s probably a ram. I’m sure there’s some sort of imagery there that can be unpacked but I’m lazy.
I think that Joshua’s would be a beagle solely because I think that’d be funny
Jocelyn’s a fox. Idk why other than vibes but I’m strangely certain of this.
Joel’s hard to say because he says one sentence once. Probably also some kind of dog though.
Jedidiah’s is 100% absolutely a rabbit. If I know 1 thing it’s that Jedidiah’s fursona is a rabbit. I have a specific line of logic behind this but I’m not really sure how to explain it. but yes whatever you’re thinking, that was intentional.
Originally I thought that Johanna’s would be like a really cool wolf but honestly I think it would be a deer. Jedidiah get onto her sometimes because she draws it with the patterning and anatomy of a doe but always gives it antlers because they “look cool”
Jemimiah’s is some sort of fantasy creature like a dragon or something.
Jessica’s is a cat, specifically a tuxedo cat.
