summary: Mosaic Haiku is a project very dear to my heart, pairing haiku with watercolors and drawings celebrating the lifetime of love that proved the key to saving all magic, shared by Eliot and Quentin at the Mosaic in The Magicians 3x05, A Life in the Day. I've added an all-new Ch. 14 (photos with the haiku on Tumblr; art to be added to the haiku on AO3 later); two new watercolor paintings for Ch. 4; and I found/reinstated some version of the drawings for Ch. 1-3 (I hadn't yet started scanning the drawings separately for those, so quality varies). Going forward, the drawings will remain visible instead of simply being replaced by the watercolor versions. So far, the art is fully complete for Ch. 1-3 and in-progress for Ch. 4 & 6. This month I'm especially pleased with the two paintings of Quentin and Eliot in their golden years (see one of the Tumblr links and the Instagram link).

“Paraventi: Folding Screens from the 17th to 21st Centuries” è l’ampia esposizione a cura di Nicholas Cullinan presentata da Fondazione Prada a Milano dal 26 ottobre 2023 al 22 febbraio 2024. La mostra di Milano indaga la storia e interpreta i significati di questi oggetti, ripercorrendo le traiettorie di reciproche contaminazioni tra Oriente e Occidente, i processi di ibridazione fra diverse forme d’arte e funzioni, le collaborazioni tra designer e artisti e, infine, la creazione di opere inedite. I paraventi rappresentano il concetto di liminalità e di soglia fra due condizioni, in senso letterale e metaforico, in quanto attraversano le barriere tra discipline, culture e mondi diversi. 

Come spiega Nicholas Cullinan, “Pittura o scultura? Arte o complemento d’arredo? Elemento utilitaristico oppure ornamentale? Decorativo, funzionale, architettonico o teatrale? Questa mostra esamina con un approccio innovativo gli interrogativi e i paradossi che circondano la storia dei paraventi, una storia di migrazione culturale (da Oriente a Occidente), di ibridazione (tra forme d’arte e funzioni diverse) e di ciò che viene celato e rivelato. La nostra ricerca svelerà come questa storia e il suo manifestarsi nel presente coincidano con la storia di oggetti liminali e della liminalità stessa, in un processo di superamento delle rigide distinzioni e gerarchie tra le diverse discipline dell’arte e dell’architettura, della decorazione d’interni e del design”. 

Il progetto espositivo ideato dallo studio di architettura SANAA, fondato da Kazuyo Sejima e Ryue Nishizawa, raccoglierà negli spazi del Podium oltre settanta paraventi. Saranno inclusi sia opere di grande valore storico sia lavori più recenti provenienti da musei internazionali e collezioni private, oltre a una selezione di nuove creazioni appositamente commissionate per questo progetto a più di quindici artisti internazionali. Al piano terra del Podium, pareti curvilinee e trasparenti di Plexiglas, alternate a tende dalla linea sinuosa, evocheranno le forme di questi oggetti creando una serie di spazi caratterizzati da diverse condizioni luminose. All’interno di questi ambienti i visitatori potranno incontrare i vari gruppi tematici e confrontarsi con un fluido percorso espositivo grazie alla trasparenza delle strutture divisorie. Al piano superiore l’allestimento rappresenterà l’intera storia dei paraventi, presentati in ordine cronologico e disposti su piedistalli sagomati che ne enfatizzeranno le forme, in omaggio agli innovativi allestimenti museali del MASP di San Paolo, realizzato da Lina Bo Bardi, e al lavoro di SANAA per il museo Louvre-Lens.

A lawyer from one of Manhattan’s most prominent law firms will lead the appeal of President Trump’s criminal conviction, according to court papers filed on Wednesday that formally announced the appeal.

The participation of the lawyer, Robert Giuffra Jr., a co-chair of Sullivan & Cromwell and one of New York’s better-known appellate lawyers, adds muscle behind Mr. Trump’s long-anticipated attempt to overturn his conviction. He was found guilty last year on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in a case brought by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Mr. Giuffra’s involvement underscores how New York’s legal power players have warmed to the president. Mr. Trump was spurned by lawyers from major firms when he left office four years ago, but his second victory has brought about a sea change. Many large corporations and business leaders have lined up to support the second Trump administration.

“President Donald J. Trump’s appeal is important for the rule of law, New York’s reputation as a global business, financial and legal center, as well as for the presidency and all public officials,” Mr. Giuffra said in a statement. “The misuse of the criminal law by the Manhattan D.A. to target President Trump sets a dangerous precedent.”

A spokeswoman for the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, declined to comment.

In a seven-week trial last spring, the district attorney’s office persuaded a jury that the president had approved the falsification of records to disguise a scheme to hide three potentially damaging stories from the public during his first White House run in 2016.

To conceal the last of those stories, prosecutors argued, Mr. Trump dispatched his fixer at the time, Michael D. Cohen, to pay hush money to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who told the jury her story of sex with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Cohen was then reimbursed in 2017, leaving a paper trail of 34 documents that prosecutors said were false business records.

Mr. Trump’s defense lawyers, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, fought the conviction, but the president has named both men to high positions in the U.S. Justice Department. Now, Mr. Giuffra will face off against the district attorney’s head of appeals, Steven Wu, as the case is heard by a midlevel appeals court in Manhattan.

The case presents various issues for the court. Falsifying business records is a felony only if the records were faked to conceal a second crime. In Mr. Trump’s case, prosecutors argued that second crime was a violation of state election law that prohibits a conspiracy to promote a candidacy “by unlawful means.”

That complex legal theory was approved by the trial judge, Juan M. Merchan, and a federal judge who evaluated the case, Alvin K. Hellerstein, took no issue with it. But it may be vulnerable to the scrutiny of appellate judges.

Mr. Trump’s lawyers have also argued that the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity last summer — a decision that fatally delayed a federal criminal case in which Mr. Trump was accused of working to overturn the 2020 election — invalidates some of the trial evidence.

Another vulnerability may spring from Ms. Daniels’s testimony. After her first morning on the stand, Mr. Trump’s lawyers moved for a mistrial, arguing that her graphic testimony about sex with their client had prejudiced the jury. Justice Merchan said that while he agreed that Ms. Daniels had said things “that would probably have been better left unsaid,” a mistrial was not warranted.

This month, Justice Merchan sentenced Mr. Trump, but gave him what is known as an unconditional discharge. The sentence carries no penalty, but formalized the president’s status as a felon. That status will stand until the appeal is decided.

Mr. Giuffra, and the other two Sullivan & Cromwell lawyers handling the appeal, Matthew Schwartz and James McDonald, all clerked at the Supreme Court and are partners at the firm. Their decision to take on the appeal is the latest link between the firm and the president. Mr. Trump named Jay Clayton, another partner, as his pick to lead the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan.

The posture of the firm echoes that taken by high-profile business leaders across the country. But it is not wholly without risk: Some clients might look askance at any affiliation with a polarizing president.

Mr. Giuffra, who donated to Mr. Trump’s campaign and other Republican causes, was under consideration to represent Mr. Trump during his first term, but ultimately did not join his legal team.

En attendant de savoir si le film a été acclamé par les fans, il y a de bonnes nouvelles : La Nonne 2 va sortir ! Cela a été confirmé le 3 septembre 2023 par les deux stars de la série dans une vidéo postée sur le profil Instagram officiel d’La Nonne 2. Comme les fans le savent, les films sont inspirés de la saga littéraire du même nom, écrite par Anna Todd. La série La Nonne 2 est composé de 4 livres.

L’intrigue du film La Nonne 2 L’amour d’Hardin et Tessa est encore une fois mis à l’épreuve. Ces deux adolescents vont devoir affronter leur passé. Tessa rencontre son père après des années et décide de le prendre en charge après avoir découvert qu’il était devenu sans abri. Hardin accepte de l’héberger mais ne fait pas confiance à cet homme, convaincu qu’il cache une partie de la vérité. Mais ce n’est pas le seul obstacle. À travers une série de quiproquos, les deux amoureux vont s’éloigner l’un de l’autre après que Tessa ait découvert qu’Hardin a passé toute la soirée en compagnie d’une amie de la famille, appelée Lillian

Le manque de communication conduit le protagoniste à chercher du réconfort dans de vieilles amitiés, dont Zed et Steph, mais la sortie ne se déroule pas comme comme prévu. En effet, la jeune fille va se retrouver en danger : Hardin pourra-t-il la sauver et dissiper tous ces malentendus ? Concernant l’intrigue du film, Castille Landon, le réalisateur d’La Nonne 2 nous assure qu’il sera fidèle au roman du même nom.

Le casting du film La Nonne 2 : qui sera là ? Nous verrons probablement le retour de deux personnages principaux : Héro Fiennes-Tiffin et Josephine Langford, comme Hardin et Tessa, La Nonne 2ivement. Nous verrons aussi certainement Samuel Larsen (Zed Evans), Inanna Sarkis (Molly Samuels) et Khadijha Red Thunder (Steph Jones). Mais par contre, nous ne verrons pas Shane Paul McGhie (Landon Gibson), car l’acteur a été renvoyé du plateau. Dylan Sprouse, dont le rôle est Trevor ne revient pas non plus.

Mais il y a aussi une nouvelle de dernière minute : d’autres acteurs ne reviendront pas dans le troisième film, d’où la nécessité d’un renouvellement. Déjà dans La Nonne 2 2, on se rend compte que le père d’Hardin n’est plus joué par Peter Gallagher (Andy Cohen pourquoi es-tu parti ?) mais par Rob Estes et que la mère de Landon n’est plus jouée par Jennifer Beals mais par Karimah Westbrook. Nous verrons également beaucoup de changements dans La Nonne 2. En commençant par Candice King et Charlie Weber : les deux acteurs ne seront plus Kim et Christian Vance.

L’actrice que nous avons appris à aimer dans The Vampire Diaries comme Caroline est enceinte de son deuxième enfant ! Sa grossesse l’empêche donc de retourner sur le plateau pour filmer La Nonne 2. Candice sera remplacée par Arielle Kebbel que nous avons déjà vu dans The Vampire Diaries: : Il s’agit de Lexi, le meilleur ami de Stefan ! Charlie sera remplacé par Stephen Moyer. Aussi Selma Blair, qui joue la mère de Tessa, est remplacée par Mira Sorvino. En plus de toutes ces modifications, il y a aussi une nouvelle arrivée : Carter Jenkins, qui jouera Robert, le potentiel amoureux de Tessa.

La raison de tous ces changements est que le fait de tourner deux films ensemble empêche aussi certains des acteurs principaux de participer à d’autres engagements professionnels ou autres.

Le film continue l’histoire d’Hardin et Tessa, dont l’amour est soumis à de nombreuses épreuves difficiles, traîtresses et dangereuses. Ces deux amoureux auront-ils une fin heureuse ? En attendant de savoir si le film a été acclamé par les fans, il y a de bonnes nouvelles : La Nonne 2 va sortir ! Cela a été confirmé le 3 septembre 2023 par les deux stars de la série dans une vidéo postée sur le profil Instagram officiel d’La Nonne 2. Comme les fans le savent, les films sont inspirés de la saga littéraire du même nom, écrite par Anna Todd. La série La Nonne 2 est composé de 4 livres.

L’intrigue du film La Nonne 2 L’amour d’Hardin et Tessa est encore une fois mis à l’épreuve. Ces deux adolescents vont devoir affronter leur passé. Tessa rencontre son père après des années et décide de le prendre en charge après avoir découvert qu’il était devenu sans abri. Hardin accepte de l’héberger mais ne fait pas confiance à cet homme, convaincu qu’il cache une partie de la vérité. Mais ce n’est pas le seul obstacle. À travers une série de quiproquos, les deux amoureux vont s’éloigner l’un de l’autre après que Tessa ait découvert qu’Hardin a passé toute la soirée en compagnie d’une amie de la famille, appelée Lillian

Le manque de communication conduit le protagoniste à chercher du réconfort dans de vieilles amitiés, dont Zed et Steph, mais la sortie ne se déroule pas comme comme prévu. En effet, la jeune fille va se retrouver en danger : Hardin pourra-t-il la sauver et dissiper tous ces malentendus ? Concernant l’intrigue du film, Castille Landon, le réalisateur d’La Nonne 2 nous assure qu’il sera fidèle au roman du même nom.

Le casting du film La Nonne 2 : qui sera là ? Nous verrons probablement le retour de deux personnages principaux : Héro Fiennes-Tiffin et Josephine Langford, comme Hardin et Tessa, La Nonne 2ivement. Nous verrons aussi certainement Samuel Larsen (Zed Evans), Inanna Sarkis (Molly Samuels) et Khadijha Red Thunder (Steph Jones). Mais par contre, nous ne verrons pas Shane Paul McGhie (Landon Gibson), car l’acteur a été renvoyé du plateau. Dylan Sprouse, dont le rôle est Trevor ne revient pas non plus.

Mais il y a aussi une nouvelle de dernière minute : d’autres acteurs ne reviendront pas dans le troisième film, d’où la nécessité d’un renouvellement. Déjà dans La Nonne 2 2, on se rend compte que le père d’Hardin n’est plus joué par Peter Gallagher (Andy Cohen pourquoi es-tu parti ?) mais par Rob Estes et que la mère de Landon n’est plus jouée par Jennifer Beals mais par Karimah Westbrook. Nous verrons également beaucoup de changements dans La Nonne 2. En commençant par Candice King et Charlie Weber : les deux acteurs ne seront plus Kim et Christian Vance.

L’actrice que nous avons appris à aimer dans The Vampire Diaries comme Caroline est enceinte de son deuxième enfant ! Sa grossesse l’empêche donc de retourner sur le plateau pour filmer La Nonne 2. Candice sera remplacée par Arielle Kebbel que nous avons déjà vu dans The Vampire Diaries: : Il s’agit de Lexi, le meilleur ami de Stefan ! Charlie sera remplacé par Stephen Moyer. Aussi Selma Blair, qui joue la mère de Tessa, est remplacée par Mira Sorvino. En plus de toutes ces modifications, il y a aussi une nouvelle arrivée : Carter Jenkins, qui jouera Robert, le potentiel amoureux de Tessa.

La raison de tous ces changements est que le fait de tourner deux films ensemble empêche aussi certains des acteurs principaux de participer à d’autres engagements professionnels ou autres.

Shark 2 L'abisso (titled Shark 2 in some territories)is a 2023 science fiction action film directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris, based on the 1999 novel The Trench by Steve Alten. Plans for the sequel announced to be early development on October 2018 after the box office success of the first film, Wheatley replaced Jon Turteltaub to attached to be director from the returning script by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, with Alten completed the screenplay in 2019. Filming begin on various locations on Asia and the London place Leavesden Studio on February 2022 with much of the cast joined the same month until May 2022.

Shark 2 L'abisso had its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 9, 2023, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 4, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Pre-production In March 2019, it was announced that a script for the film was in the works, with screenwriters Dean Georgaris, and Jon and Erich Hoeber returning.[9][10] In his September 2020 newsletter, Alten confirmed the script, titled Shark 2 L'abisso, to be complete, and expressed interest in its "dark" tone.In October 2020, Ben Wheatley was announced to direct.

Filming In April 2021, Statham said filming was set to begin in January 2022. Filming commenced as planned at the end of January at the Warner-owned Leavesden Studios outside London, with principal photography starting on February 4, 2022. It continued there until May before switching to outdoor locations, presumably in Asia. While the production was ongoing, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, and Wu Jing were announced as part of the cast.

Post-production DNEG, Scanline VFX and Milk VFX provided the visual effects for the sequel (with DNEG also handling the 3D conversion). Pete Bebb and Gavin Round served as production visual effects supervisor and production visual effects producer respectively.

Music Harry Gregson-Williams composed the sequel, returning from the first film.WaterTower Music released a score album on July 28, in addition to the Bankay Ojo's remix version of Page Kennedy's song "Chomp."

The Milan exhibition explores the histories and semantics of these objects by tracing trajectories of cross-pollination between East and West, processes of hybridization between different art forms and functions, collaborative relationships between designers and artists, and the emergence of newly created works. The folding screens embody liminality and the idea of being on the threshold of two conditions, literally and metaphorically. They cross barriers between different disciplines, cultures, and worlds.

As explained by Nicholas Cullinan, “Painting or sculpture? Art or furniture? Utilitarian or ornamental? Decorative, functional, architectural, or theatrical? This innovative exhibition examines the many questions and paradoxes surrounding the unfolding history of the paravent. This history of the folding screen is one of cultural migration (from East to West), hybridization (between both different art forms and functions) and of what is concealed and revealed. As we shall explore, this history, and especially the way it manifests in the present, is one of liminal objects and of liminality itself; in the process collapsing the rigid distinctions and hierarchies between the different disciplines of art and architecture, decoration, and design.”

Hero’s Quest: The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. For some reason I always have to make this harder for myself, because I decided that wanted to read the whole series instead of just one of them, since technically, The Lord of the Rings, is supposed to be read as one book, despite coming in three volumes. I’ve finished The Hobbit and have started The Fellowship of the Ring, making my way through it slowly.

Rerreading a Favourite: The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. I love this book a lot, and so I’m just taking my time with it, reading it very slowly, while reading other things in-between. Currently on chapter 24 of 32, so in the last third or so.

Popular Modern Novel: A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James. Similar to The Master and Margarita in that I’m reading it pretty slowly, while simultaneously reading other books, I’m about half way through.        

More generally, I’ve read 33 books so far this year, some of which I’ve reading enjoyed, some I do not recommend at all, but I won’t go into too much detail about that, otherwise this post would be unnecessarily long.
