Assaulted his ex multiple times. One time he threw her and dragged her alongside their car. Her injuries included a swollen ankle, a burst ovarian cyst, a broken nose, and a blown out kneecap.

Oscar Pistorius (athlete)

While his wife had taken refuge in the bathroom he shot 4 times through the door with a gun, effectively killing her. He'll be out of prison next year after spending 10 years behind bars.

Morgan Ciprès (figure skater)

Sexually harassed a 13 years old via messaging.

Joaquin Phoenix (acteur)

Has sexually harassed multiple women.

Kurt Cobain (singer)

Tried to rape a mentally disabled girl, a "retard" as he'd say, but gave up because her "vagina" smelled too bad. Later the girl's father came to find him and screamed that he had taken advantage of his daughter. Cobain was therefore nicknamed the "retard fucker" by his classmates.

Muitas vezes eu preciso de espaço, e você?

Compromissos, demandas profissionais, relacionamentos, preocupações externas. Existem, e com cada vez mais intensidade. Parece clichê, e talvez seja, mas é verdade que a era virtual (sobretudo pós-pandemia), nos deixou um tanto "claustrofóbicos" (peço aqui licença pelo uso não científico da palavra).

A pandemia promoveu o que chamamos de "lockdown", onde nos vimos obrigatoriamente a ficar em casa. Mas, não pode-se deixar de falar que as demandas, ao mesmo tempo, tornaram-se mais intensas. Sejam pelas pessoas que passaram a trabalhar muito mais com a proposta do trabalho remoto, ou com as pessoas que perderam seus empregos (sinalizador potente de estresse, ansiedade, etc).

Quando digo que preciso de espaço, me refiro a espaço de qualidade. Resguardar um tempo para ouvir minha playlist favorita, passar horas no catálogo do serviço de streaming sem escolher o filme que quero mesmo ver, estudar com prazer - e calma -, aquilo que preciso.

Espaço. Falta espaço para muita gente, e é uma demanda recorrente em clínica. Sejam pelas demandas profissionais ou mesmo a configuração familiar ao qual o cliente se encontra.

O espaço emocional refere-se ao ambiente psicológico que uma pessoa necessita para lidar com suas emoções, expressar sentimentos e manter o equilíbrio mental. Onde você encontra o seu espaço neste mundo? A reflexão é importante, porque se você não encontra uma resposta, você está comprometendo a si com suas preocupações, falta de regulação, ansiedade excessiva, entre outros comportamentos disfuncionais.

A Psicoterapia pode ser um espaço para trabalhar suas emoções, para compreender melhor a sua trajetória, para retomar um cenário de bem-estar, mas pontuo que pode ser importante criar um espaço além deste, para que se reflita inclusive aquilo que você leva à terapia. Afinal de contas, a terapia só começa quando ela termina: quando começamos a refletir os questionamentos e demandas levadas ao profissional.

Compartilhe o cuidado, mas cuide de si. ◇ Estou certo de que seu* espaço há de lhe proporcionar bem-estar. Ps: você pode fazer tudo no seu espaço. Inclusive nada. "E tá tudo bem".

Waar?   Tentoonstelling Faithful and Fearless – Portraits of Dogs in de Walllace Collection, Londen

Vandaag bezoek ik een portrettententoonstelling in de Wallace Collection. Het is niet de eerste keer dat ik een expositie met portretten bezoek, maar deze keer is tóch anders: dit zijn namelijk allemaal portretten van honden.

Het schilderen van hondenportretten werd in Groot-Brittannië populair in de achttiende eeuw. Aristocraten kregen door de jacht een nauwe band met hun honden en ze waren rijk genoeg om hun viervoeters op canvas te laten vereeuwigen. De grootmeester op dit gebied was George Stubbs. Het Mauritshuis wijdde in 2020 een tentoonstelling aan de paardenportretten van deze schilder. Stubbs bestudeerde de anatomie van de door hem geschilderde dieren nauwkeurig en gaf hen weer met individuele kenmerken. Er zijn van deze kunstenaar vijftien hondenportretten bekend. Ringwood was een Brocklesby Foxhound in bezit van de eerste Baron Yarborough. Het was een top fokhond. Het gewas rechts is vingerhoedskruid. De Engelse naam Foxhood verwijst naar de naam van het ras.

Niet alleen aristocratische honden werden vereeuwigd. A Dog lying on a Ledge is een anoniem werk uit het midden van de zeventiende eeuw. Het toont een doodgewone straathond, maar wel uitstekend geschilderd. De belichting laat het dier prachtig uitkomen tegen de donkere achtergrond.

In de negentiende eeuw schilderde Edwin Landseer allegorische voorstellingen van honden. Een fraai voorbeeld is Laying down the Law or Trial by Jury. Een poedel als rechter spot met de pruiken en gewaden die rechters droegen. Het schilderij is een satire op de ouderwetse juridische procedures in de negentiende eeuw.

Ook van schoothondjes werden schilderijen vervaardigd, Zoals Bachelier’s Dog of the Havana Breed. Het beestje vertoont antropomorfe trekken. Hij kijkt schuldig uit zijn ogen, wetend dat hij ondeugend is geweest.

Bij de schoothondjes kom ik ook een bekende tegen. Afgelopen zondag was ik in Soane’s Museum en zag daar een portret van zijn vrouw Eliza met een hondje op haar schoot. Van datzelfde hondje, Fanny, hangt hier een portret door James Ward. Toen Eliza was overleden ontstond er een sterke band tussen Soane  en Fanny. Na haar dood bouwde hij een grafmonument voor haar en gaf de schilder Ward opdracht tot het maken van dit portret.

De band van het Britse koninklijk huis met honden is bekend. Vooral koningin Victoria was een fervent hondenliefhebster. De schilder Edwin Landseer, met wie zij een uitstekende relatie had, schilderde haar favoriete huisdieren: Dash, Hector en Nero samen met de papegaai Lory. Victoria en Albert waren zelf ook actief als kunstenaar en maakten waterverfschilderijen en etsen van hun honden, zoals Podge (potlood en waterverf door Victoria) en Head of a Dachshund  (ets door Albert).

Lucien Freud schilderde de geadopteerde hond Pluto meerdere keren en na diens dood schilderde hij zelfs zijn graf. En ook David Hockney schilderde zijn honden Stanley en Boodgie veelvuldig.

O questionamento que proponho neste texto não poderia ser outro. O amor é uma pauta recorrente nas clínicas de Psicologia, e não é raro que deste cenário surjam inúmeras e diferentes formas de insatisfação.

Se a gente pensa que o amor está em excluir as diferenças, em amar o outro o tempo todo, em se agradar com tudo que ele faz e diz, corre o risco de ler as ambivalências do campo do amor como falta de amor. E a fantasia neurótica, que é uma fantasia de completude, trabalha para isso, para a aniquilação da diferença, para o não querer saber daquilo que nos aborrece no outro. O amor é resultado de uma força constante para fazer de dois um, sem jamais conseguir, porque conseguindo, paradoxalmente o que acontece é a morte do amor. É a tensão entre amor e ódio que faz o amor existir.

Para amar é preciso desejar, e só podemos desejar o que não temos. Amar, então, é uma posição de falta. O amante crê que o amado tem algo que lhe interessa. Por isso, quando não se pode reconhecer-se como faltante, não se pode sustentar o amor. Porque o amor tem disso, não basta amar em silêncio, em paralisia, é preciso dizê-lo, é preciso movimentar-se. Por isso amar é tão trabalhoso. Não tem quase nada de confortável no amor, embora ele dê tanta cor à vida e amparo à existência.

A meu ver, só podemos amar alguém pela diferença. Amar o igual é de um narcisismo intolerável. Narciso morreu afogado em sua própria imagem. Precisamos da diferença, somos ávidos por ela! É que quando ela aparece, nos coloca a trabalho e nem sempre estamos dispostos a pagar o preço. É o que a neurose faz, não se cansa de colocar pedras no caminho do amor. Amar não é fácil, mas a fantasia neurótica leva as pessoas a pensarem que se é difícil, é porque não é amor. Ledo engano.

Um trabalho em psicoterapia nos possibilita trocar pedras por perdas. E aí a gente descobre que se pode perder ideal, pode amar. Sem fantasia.
