Ted Lasso fic writers are doing the lord's work. Stuff of heroes, truly. And I understand that loads of them are not actually English, which is cool, that's representative of the audience of the show.

But I wish that everyone understood that Wembley (the location of the FA Cup semi final in 2.08 "Man City") is a London based stadium, actually very close to Richmond, and that it's the home base for English Football in general, the England national team, and cup finals, and so on. Rather than it being Man City's home base in Manchester.

Given we are getting an episode at the Etihad, City's real home base, later in the season, maybe that'll clear things up? But in 2.08, both teams were entering a neutral space important to English football, and they were only about 10 miles from Richmond (with Manchester being a 4 hour drive north.)

IDK, 2.08 made this pretty clear in my opinion. The way the commentator talks about Richmond being the last London club to make their Wembley debut. The way they go out on the pitch to take it all in. (They wouldn't do that at the home ground of some other team, because a) they'd have played there every year, and b) they treat that moment like they have equal claim to the space, honoured to be there.) The way that Beard walks off into the night and gets home on public transport, including London buses, in 2.09.

I have to assume that most people do know this, but I've seen this error in fic a surprising amount of times: the assumption that they're in Manchester that episode, talking about travelling home from there or whatever, or that they're on Man City's turf, or talking about the James incident and the hug as "what happened in Manchester," that I am, confused to say the least about how this ended up being the takeaway for at least some people.

So if anyone did have that assumption and they happen to see this post... Wembley is in London and it isn't Man City's home ground. Mistaking the location of Wembley is kind of like assuming Madison Square Garden is anywhere other than New York - there are concerts and huge events there too, it's a known cultural venue - except for that Wembley isn't also the home ground of any one league team like MSG is for the Knicks. It's a place of honour for all English football teams.

Three trans-identified males were on the winner’s podium at a race in Washington last week, marking the first time men won first, second, and third place in a women’s race.

The Marymoor Grand Prix is an annual track bike race at the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome in Redmond, Washington. The venue is known for its strict “no bullying” policy, which warns that it will not tolerate any derogatory remarks or criticism towards racers. The warning has become significant in recent years, especially as relates to protecting athletes on the basis of their “gender identity,” as males have been known to regularly compete in women’s races at the track.

The Grand Prix was no different, as at least three men were present in the female category during the women’s Madison race, a high-speed, two-person relay. During the race, one partner from each team starts while the “resting” partner pedals slowly along the top of the track. Partners exchange positions by pulling even with each other and then relaying or “slinging” the incoming partner into the race.

At least three Madison teams at the Grand Prix featured one female, and one male who identified as a “woman.”

Jenna Lingwood, Jordan Lothrop, and Eva Lin were the three men recorded as being present on Madison teams, and each had previously competed with other men.

Lothrop, a cyclist from Canada who had been racing with men as recently as 2023, came in first place with his female teammate. In second place was Lingwood, formerly James, who is the women’s masters 40+ national cyclocross champion, with his female teammate. And in third was Lin, who used to race as Henry Lin for San Jose State University’s men’s team, with his female teammate.

The wins were first highlighted by a women’s rights advocate on X who monitors males self-identifying into women’s cycling. The user, @i_heart__bikes, sarcastically questioned why the three teams with males beat out the all-female teams.

“I wonder what gave those teams an edge over the 100% female teams?” She asked.

An Australian football club for “self-identified women and non-binary people” has been dominating women’s competitions, just weeks after concerns were raised about the safety risks to actual female players. The Flying Bats Football Club in North Sydney has at least five males who identify as transgender on the team, and has previously been accused of causing career-changing injuries to female competitors.

As previously revealed by Reduxx, one of the five men on the women’s football team is trans activist YouTuber Riley Dennis, who was previously accused of severely injuring women while participating on another women’s team in the region. But the Flying Bats attracted even more controversy earlier this year after audio recorded during a March 20 meeting of the North Sydney Football Association was leaked.

During the meeting, Frank Parisi, president of St. Patrick’s Football Club, described another incident in which a female player was so severely injured by a trans-identified male Flying Bats player that she was no longer able to participate in the sport.

“A couple of years ago, one of the Flying Bats players broke one of our players’ legs in a game. It was a clumsy tackle from behind. Our player had her leg broken in two places and she’s no longer playing football. It was a direct result of a real bad, tall player… he didn’t get a red card. Accidents happen, but this could have been avoided,” Parisi was heard saying in audio that was released by Reduxx on X.

WTF is happening in Chapel Hill

I think The Sophomore book 1 is where the The Freshman+ series took a nosedive. Though I’m personally not a fan of TF books 3 and 4, I think TS book 1 is where the quality dropped.

-There are too goddamn many subplots. I actually can’t even figure out what the main plot is, it’s that bad. Off the top of my head:

1. Chris becomes the football captain and struggles with his new role.

2. Zig begins his first semester at Hartfeld and struggles to fit in.

3. James becomes editor-in-chief of the Knightly News and struggles with the stress associated.

4. Kaitlyn forms a new band and struggles to promote it and practice for the Battle of the Bands.

5. Becca basically has a quarter-life crisis and struggles with literally everything imaginable, but mostly figuring out who she is and how to become a better person.

6. Tyler and Abbie move in together and immediately have relationship troubles.

7. Zig and Chris are forced to contend with Manny, who is the biggest asshole imaginable on the football team throughout the story.

8. Becca sabotages Madison during pledge night and fucks up their friendship, then has to fix things by getting a job and doing something big for her.

9. The MC becomes a writer for the Knightly News. I think this one is the main plot but I’m not sure because of all the other noise.

10. Sebastian and Tyler become friends, much to the chagrin of literally everyone in the group. Oddly enough, this one is the most integral to setting up book two’s plot, yet it’s the least touched upon.

-The makeovers/alternate outfits didn’t do any of the characters justice. Personally, I think Chris and Abbie came away looking decent while James and Kaitlyn suffered the most. The fact that we had to pay to change their outfits later on also really bugged me.

-There was not nearly enough focus on the MC as there should have been. In The Freshman, she was still earnestly trying to find her place in both Hartfeld and the world while helping her friends when needed. In The Sophomore, she doesn’t really get called on her bullshit anymore and dials up the meddling in her friends’ lives to eleven. She becomes a side character in her own story, to summarize.

-This is more of a personal gripe than anything having to do with the story, but I can’t stand how the MC writes nearly all her articles on her friends. As someone with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a concentration in Journalism, that is…a big no-no, to say the least.
