Accidentally started rereading Northanger Abbey, and was sudden reminded all over again that Jane Austen is, in fact, fucking hilarious.
NA is her parody/satire of Gothic novels at the time, and she starts the book by choosing violence-- she describes the "tragedy" of the main character, Catherine Morland, a girl Determined to be a Heroine even though ALL ODDS are against her: she has a sane father who doesn't lock up his daughters, a healthy mother who didn't die in childbirth, no preternatural talent for music or drawing through which to reveal her Deepest Soul, and-- most shockingly of all-- absolutely zero love interests for whom she can wander the hills mourning their starcrossed fates until she wastes away from the sheer Sentimentality of it all.
But don't worry! She's got this FIGURED OUT. She KNOWS why she has not yet found her TRUE LOVE:
There was not one lord in the neighbourhood; no—not even a baronet. There was not one family among their acquaintance who had reared and supported a boy accidentally found at their door—not one young man whose origin was unknown. Her father had no ward, and the squire of the parish no children.
But when a young lady is to be a heroine, the perverseness of forty surrounding families cannot prevent her. Something must and will happen to throw a hero in her way.
(SPOILER: She is introduced to a mysterious young man who lives in an ABBEY, which everyone knows means he has a DEEPLY MYSTERIOUS SECRET PAST and is maybe a TRAGIC HERO or even a ROMANTIC MONSTER and either way this is IT this is Catherine's TIME TO SHINE she is going to get a good grade in DOOMED LOVE, a thing that is normal to want and--)
(...meanwhile Henry Tilney-- an ordinary guy who never expected "get cast as the Hero in some Grand Gothic Romance" to show up on his bingo card-- starts wondering when exactly he started finding Catherine's attempts to locate bloody daggers in his linen closet charming.)

Aurora isn't a warrior - she is a lady, diplomat and later ruler. And that's okay
Jane Bennet isn't a warrior - she is a lady and artist. And that's okay
Meg March isn't a warrior - she is a homemaker, artist and lady. And that's okay
Hurrem Sultan isn't a warrior - she is a lady, diplomat, ruler and strategist. And that's okay
Lucrezia Borgia isn't a warrior - she is a lady, cultural patron and diplomat. And that's okay

Laura Vlahos ( Clint Barton's wife ) isn't a warrior - she is a medic. And that's okay

Queen Guinevere isn't really a warrior - she is a lady, strategist, cultural patron and ruler. And that's okay
Millie ( 7 Brides ) isn't a warrior - she is a homemaker and agriculturalist. And that's okay.

Jane Austen really said "girls, there's nothing wrong with being gentle and shy (Jane Bennet), there's nothing wrong with being headstrong and proud (Elizabeth Bennet), there's nothing wrong with being a bit foolish and passionate (Marianne), there's nothing wrong with being prudent and reserved (Elinor), there's nothing wrong with never getting married (Mary Bennet), there's nothing wrong with settling down for someone you wouldn't have taken had you had a larger choice (Charlotte Lucas), there's nothing wrong with being imaginative and making social faux-pas (Catherine Morland), there's nothing wrong with being a bit nosy (Emma), there's nothing wrong with making mistakes and regretting them (Anne Elliot). All you have to do is make sure your flaws don't guide your life, find people who will love you as you are, and make the best of what you have." and that was so based

i truly say this with no malice in my heart but black butler fans who think the series peaked at book of circus/that the circus didn't deserve their fate........... are 7 times out of 10 not really black-butler-as-a-whole fans and are very unwilling to engage with the main themes and characters of the series as a whole. BoC was a fantastic high and had tons of engaging characters but I've met people who still hate ciel bc he had doll killed and that is CRAZY. to love a side character so much that it renders you unwilling to let the main/objectively most complex and important character into your heart at all. I'm sorry that the circus died but even though they loved each other they were also child murderers- in doll's case she still is LOL- and their most important narrative role is their impact on ciel/snake (whose plotline ties back to ciel's ideas about lies becoming the truth, so still a ciel thing ultimately). anyways the best arcs are Green Witch because it's good and Book of Murder because it's funny

Do you see Doll pulling an “I am a victim, too, I have no choice but do as my terrible master bids” act next chapter, to convince Snake and Finny to go along with her directions? The one advantage kids have so far is that they outnumber Doll and that lone female staffer…
What will Doll say?
Yes, I think she will probably play the victim card, much like Joker did when our earl confronted him and Kelvin. But I'm hoping that, unlike our earl, Snake (and Finny) will confront her -- not with the idea that they are taking away something she took from them but -- with the truth that regardless of how she was treated, she had a choice whether or not to obey. Well, back in her circus days, anyway.
Because, of course, her situation is honestly a bit different from Joker, since she's now a bizarre doll following cinematic records that Undertaker has used to "program" her. Still, these should be her own cinematic records, specifically the "future memories" that show her goals in life. No, her personal goals don't include harming children. In fact, she was the most resistant among the circus members who were kidnapping those children.
When Doll gives her reasons/excuses for going along with Undertaker's and real Ciel's plans, this would be a good time for Finny and/or Snake to flashback to their backstories and talk about the choices they made. Finny could have just sat there and let the researcher shoot him, but he decided to fight for his life and escape. Then he could have fought to get away from our earl and Sebastian, but he decided to accept their job offer. We know much less about Snake, but he put up with whatever came his way for a long time, too. However, when he realized the other first tier circus members might never return, he could have stayed on with the failing circus, but he decided to take matters into his own hands. Then he decided to also accept a job offer from our earl.
Both of them broke away from their situations, even though it was probably a very difficult decision to make. In some way or other, they felt programmed by the little systems they were in, but breakdowns to those systems provided them with opportunities to do something else. They could argue with Doll that this break (they intend to cause) in the orphanage's system is her opportunity to change her own behaviors.
This could go a few different ways.
She could double down on her programming and fight them (as soon as she has enough strength)
She could agree with them but finish getting the blood transfusion, so she'd have the energy to help them destroy the place and/or help them escape
She could agree with them, remove the tubing, and allow herself to further deteriorate/weaken from a lack of fresh blood supply. Idk how long that would take or what would happen to her mentally because of this
She could be forced to break down completely, like Agares, and start attacking them in a mindless manner, forgetting her programming as if she'd run out of "episodes"
Personally, I have a feeling we will end up with some sort of fight scene between Doll and Snake and/or Finny.
About the three ladies who work behind the scenes here, the head matron seems to be the only one that doesn't really question what the orphanage is doing. Jane ends up helping Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao at Heathfield's manor. Ada helps Baldo, Lau, and the vets at Athena Sanatorium. So, perhaps the two other staff ladies decide to help the kids, even if the head matron doesn't. Maybe just Susan helps... since we know her name....

okay pretty weird ask but do you accepts asks about crackships/crossover-ships? stuff like vriska x asuka langley-soryu, or gamzee x nagito komaeda?
the thing is i wish i had a deep and intimate understanding of any of those characters to be able to answer those types of questions. that being said i think that there should be a psychological horror/romance crime and punishment modern au fanfic where broke harvard law transfer student rodion raskolnikov kills nanna crocker while robbing her joke shop out of a strange morbid compulsion that arises in him one night and he steals a mysterious game disc off her office desk and ends up playing her copy of sburb. and he keeps being haunted by traces of this strange old woman and the greater secrets he has suddenly stumbled onto and wonders what the fuck he's gotten himself into while glimpses of her alternate selves and just general paradox time bullshit mess with his inherently doomed one player session. and then he can use time travel bullshit and then meet 1960s milf jane after attempting several scratches and they can go do dead ghost spades-make outs in the dream bubbles after a long game of godtier cat and mouse where they break everything about skaia and the game and kill several versions of their universes while finally succumbing to their fates in each other's bloody arms. or something like that. i think it'd be interesting

More Maid Class Stuff - III (MMCS)
<This time, a more indepth exploration on the classpect itself outside of a strictly in-source material analysis.>
To begin, the Maid Class is one that can be approached as One who redefines [Aspect] and One who is redefined through [Aspect].
As such, as much as for many cases at first glance it may seem that a Maid is diametrically opposed to, or at least displeased with, their aspect, they in truth are more opposed against the pre-existing ideas and notions they carry in relation to, or ascribe to them.
Truly, they only become satisfied with their aspect once they've recontextualized their idea of what their aspect means and what their relationship with it should be. And thus, until they finally reach that point, the relationship can only be described as rebellious.
More than anyone Maids are deeply tied to the idea of their aspect, and in fact, their aspect itself. Which is made clear as their complex, or rather, tumultuous relationship tends to showcase how close they are to and how much they are affected by it in their lives.
A Maid's rejection and rebellion against their Aspect and what it means, until finally coming to terms with and redefining their relationship, is a partial rejection of theirselves, of the aspects of their own selves that reflect it as a reaction to the connotations they themselves ascribe to their aspects.
Sometimes it is subconscious and abstract, such as one's feeling of futility being reflected in and through fatalism; Other times it is literal, such as the rejection of a label or everything the idea or a tangible form of one's aspect represents.
However, at times said rejection, although potentially and often self-destructive, tends to counter-act the Aspect in absolute detriment, since the Maid may be completely absorbed by their Aspect.
A Maid of Light can become completely lost within myths and stories, even religious beginning to think of their whole world in relation to them and even redefining their own self to approximate those; Whilst a Maid of Life could accept the expectations put upon them by her familial history, culture and tradition and see the world completely in that lens to their own detriment and the detriment of others.
In regards to wielding their aspect, the Maid at face value more closely resembles the Witch, and in fact, if it were not for the special relationship Maids have with their aspect, would be nearly identitcal, since the Maid manipulates through, although also brings upon, their Aspect; However they are less likely to directly manipulate their Aspect.
Maids prefer acting from the sidelines, or at a glance, supportingly, albeit not as an absolute, as they use the position to enact more direct and meaningful impact on a situation.
The main point of the Maid is said impact, whilst the sidelines are simply where they feel most comfortable acting from.
This could make they seem comparable to the archetype of a guerilla fighter, less so to a sniper, because the later acts with premeditation and precision, and whilst Maids are absolutely capable and do use either, even and often both, they prefer the execution over the planning.
This draws parallels with the Thief, for as much both prefer the latter half, the Thief rejects the idea of a plan as inherently curbsome, whilst the Maid is willing to strategise ahead if it'd make sure their actions bring fruits.
The Maid ultimately, like the Heir, holds their Aspect as second nature, at times even more so than the latter, however their tumultuous and complex relationship to it tends to render them unable to use their talents to their fullest until they make ammends with it.
