Hesitation? A thing for the slow-minded. Fear? A thing for bunnies. Nerves? Unheard of. At least this type of nerves. And yet.

Lu paced all the way back to the gates again. Third time today. Ah, purée. They’d been standing in front of the entrance doors for at least thirty minutes now. If at least one of the people who had passed them had taken their presence into consideration (surely Lu’s presence was something one couldn’t not take into consideration!) they might’ve long made it in. As it was now, they were stuck in front of the house, looking like a beggar embarrassed to beg. “And really, they should be the ones to beg,” they mumbled as yet another person walked past and Lu’s gaze scanned them sharply. “No wonder the Dark Lord’s got more followers than the Phoenix. At least he knows how to dress his people. Fashionably.”

I looked at my last post titled “my first mri w/ contrast,” which was in in august 2018. I remember going through that MRI and that year, my migraines were excruciating.

The results of my mri w/ contrast was that they found nothing, my blood vessels looked completely normal and there were no abnormalities to my brain that they could see. Though that’s great news, I remember feeling defeated by those results.. I wanted an answer and I wanted to know why I was getting migraines almost everyday out of the month. From then on, the migraine symptoms were only getting worse, and I believe that was also due to the amount of stress I was going through by not being able to get proper treatment that worked and eased the migraines.

Fast forward to 2020, from 2018 and 2019, I’ve been seeing a wonderful neurologist and I’ve gone to talk therapy a couple of times to manage my stress and depression that I was going through. My neurologist helps me find medication and treatments that would be and have been effective for treating my migraines, and takes my pain and ailments seriously. I’ve been able to find ways to alleviate my stress and handle my day-to-day pain better and manage my emotions better through talk-therapy as well.

The type of migraine that I was diagnosed with was “intractable chronic migraines without aura” or also called “status migrainosus.” These are migraines that lasts over 72 hours and is notoriously difficult to relieve with standard migraine treatments. I’ve gone through different types of oral medication with him, ruled out ones that seemed to work and those that absolutely didn’t for me. Along with some oral medication, I also have a self inject-able medication, called Aimovig. I inject myself once a month and it’s been about half a year or more since I’ve been on Aimovig and to the best of my knowledge, I believe that it’s been beneficial at alleviating the frequencies of migraines I get a month. On top of my oral medication and self injecting medication, I tried Botox for my migraines as my neurologist recommended as well back in October 2019. It’s about 30 injections in total, around the face, head muscles, and trapezoids, every 3 months. I’ll save a detailed explanation and my experience on it in another post.

On top of being diagnosed with status migrainosus, I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals. Having this diagnosis from my neurologist was relieving as well in a way.. when you have an explanation and an answer to why your body hurts or you feel fatigued constantly for “no reason,” it makes the disease easier to accept in my own personal experience.

Lastly, my fatigue can also be attributed to a blood disorder I have as well. I’m anemic and I also have thalassemia. Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families (inherited) in which the body makes an abnormal form or inadequate amount of hemoglobin. Unfortunately, anemia and thalassemia aren’t things that are easily treatable, but I’ve learned to deal with it in healthy ways and the way I combat my diseases and disorders is not only through medication, but through nutrition and exercise.

I’ll touch base again on fibromyalgia and my blood disorders in another post.

For now, this was just an update from the last time I had written about my condition, and thank you for everyone who read my posts and took interest in reading about my chronic migraines and my process through it all.
