we always talk about luke and julie when it comes to unsaid emily and the impact it had on luke with finally seeing his mom read it and having that sort of closure but like

we never talk about emily

about how she’s lived 25 years thinking her son hated her- that he hated her so much he would rather live on the streets and die than come back home and live under the same roof

thinking the last conversation she had with him is a shouting match that then led to him running out of the house and cycling away, not looking back once

thinking that she had let him down as a mother, tender she was somehow the reason he died

to now finding a song he had written…. for her. about her. about them

telling her he regretted the words shouted out in anger. that he regretted walking out on her and not caving in and turning back around to look at her, to go back

they get thought of her all the time and loved her- he loved his mom, he could never hate her

that if he could only turn back time, he would do it all differently- he would tell her all the words he wanted to say but never did

that he loved his mom.

like…….i can’t even begin to imagine the emotional turmoil she was going through while reading the song in her dead son’s handwriting - the song named after her

anyway.

So, everybody (rightly so) talks about how brilliant the Unsaid Emily scene is in Julie and the Phantoms s1e8, but rewatching it has made me appreciate the moments before the song begins 🥺 Charlie smashes it as Luke even in the scene where he and Julie talk to Luke's father, and he lets them inside the house - the uncertainty, worry, and even fear when he realises that Julie's plan is to show his parents the song that he poured his heart into writing for so long is everything 💔 The thought of letting Julie into such a painful, personal part of his life - one that isn't the fun, happy-go-lucky, passionate Luke that he tries so hard to show to the outside world 🥺 Even the hesitation when his father invites Julie inside is so well done 🥺

I feel like we as a society sleep on the lyricism that exists within the JATP soundtrack.

after just over three years of playing the soundtrack and just over a year of mom in hyperfix with more intensive soundtrack playing, the child (8yo) finally agreed/asked to watch julie and the phantoms

some notable reactions from ep 8 and 9:

unsaid emily: "i just about cried for the whole song" *request for snugs*

after julie and luke try to hold hands: "oh wait, he's air! julie, he's air!" (@60sec400 would be so proud)

after luke gets jolted and hits the pillar in the porch scene: "BONK!" (y'all i cannot understate how hilarious this reaction was in real time)

yelling at willie about how alex doesn't like that nickname

julie in the alley at the orpheum: *crying* "okay the last few episodes are actually really sad"

magic ghost hug: *indecipherable babbling*

"mom can you check to see if there's another season?"

In case y’all didn’t hear the JATP writers & fantoms will be striking at Netflix in Los Angeles on Friday not only to show Netflix execs how they seriously messed up in canceling this show but also for the numerous other shows Netflix has cancelled prematurely.

This has completely taken over my brain!

Almost everything is the same as it was in the show with some minor changes made by moi.

Obvi, Percy Jackson is Luke and Annabeth Chase is Julie. I struggled with which PJO characters would best fit Alex and Reggie before I finally settled on Will Solace and Leo Valdez, respectively. I was super tempted to have Will be Willie, but I decided Nico would be the better choice for Willie. Kronos is Caleb, cause of course. Thus, I made Luke Castellan Nick. As much as I do not like Lukabeth, he fits the best (especially after the season 1 finale). Drew Tanaka as Carrie, Lacy as Kayla, and Chiron as Mrs. Harrington. I struggled a lot with who I wanted Bobby to be, but in the end I chose Chris Rodriguez (don’t think too hard about him being Drew’s dad, it’s an AU).

I split Carlos into Bobby and Matthew and kinda replaced Aunt Victoria with Helen. In this AU, she is still Annabeth’s stepmom, but she’s not an evil stepmother, y’know? I’m thinking she and Fredrick both recently lost their spouses and decided to move in together out of convenience. Matthew and Bobby are Annabeth’s stepbrothers.

I have so many ideas for this AU and not enough time to draw them (I will as soon as school is over). I even found a way to make Unsaid Emily even MORE heartbreaking!
