The Great ACT-NSW-NZ Trip, 2023-2024 - Otago Museum, Dunedin
After a fun hour nosing around the two rooms of Geology Dept. Museum at the university, @purrdence and I walked down to the Otago Museum, which had many more rooms but fewer fossils on display (and some of them were on loan from the university).

All joking aside, however, the Otago Museum has delightful exhibits, including some very interesting dioramas, a wing in the style of Victorian 'Great Chain of Existence' exhibits, and a live butterfly avairy.

And of course more geology stuff such wind-polished Ventifacts, one of the spherical concretions from Moeraki, and what, for 50 years, was thought to the last and only Takahē specimen in the world.

Admittedly the butterfly house operates at the temperatures and humidity of the wet tropics, which rapidly became unbearable, but I don't enjoy the heat. And the biology wing did include what we might term 'Adventures in Victorian Taxidermy'.

Those first two are supposed to be a Tasmanian Devil and a Koala, incidentally.

GPT-2: It can’t resist a list
One of my favorite things is to get a neural net to generate a list of things. And one of the best neural nets to subject to that task is GPT-2, which learned a heck of a lot of things (okay not all of them good) by reading a huge chunk of the internet.
It turns out that there are a lot of lists on the internet, and if you prompt GPT-2 with the beginnings of one, it can’t help but finish it. (Prompts are in bold)
Here are the medals that come after the traditional three.
1. Gold 2. Silver 3. Bronze 4. Iron 5. One Life 6. One Titan 7. One Death 8. Sigil of Ruin 9. Sigil of Destruction 10. Desert Citron 11. City Pollen 12. Desert Vaccine 13. Inorganic Light CLR Plating 14. Inorganic Light CLR Spray Ingredient 15. Inorganic Light Metal Plating 16. Inorganic Light Metal Spray Ingredient 17. Phoenix Mask 18. Gold Ornament
Keep this list of wedding anniversary gifts handy!
1ST YEAR: Paper 2ND YEAR: Cotton 3RD YEAR: Leather 4TH YEAR: Fruit & Flowers, or Linen & Silk 5RD YEAR: Carpet & Flooring/Graphite 6TH YEAR: Nail Polish Gold Palette 7TH YEAR: Silk & Enamel and Thumb 9TH YEAR: Pearl 10TH YEAR: Delicate Roses 11TH YEAR: Crystal & Mental Training 12TH YEAR: Orchid 13TH YEAR: Patterns & Data 14TH YEAR: Capsules 15TH YEAR: Canvas & Flowers 16TH YEAR: Waterlite Red 17TH YEAR: Chocolate & Bamboo 18TH YEAR: Wood 19TH YEAR: Borroux (mint) porcelain bottles 20TH YEAR: Fashion Collection 21TH YEAR: Satin/Zinc Sculpture 22TH YEAR: Umbrellas & Gerber covers 23TH YEAR: Garment Solids 24TH YEAR: Wooden/Jute Trading Cards, Heart Leaves and Leaves, artwork and fabrics 25TH YEAR: Soaps, reapplication and wash cycles 27TH YEAR: Digital storage on printer 29TH YEAR: Bamboo bindings(1000 pieces) 30TH YEAR: Chameleonic & Organizing Utensils & Fine Feathers
(GPT-2 is not great at counting when the numbers get high)
It loves listing animals, although it’s not always clear on what counts as an animal.
My Favorite Animals Are: 1. Giraffes 2. Maize 3. Polar Bears 4. Pigeons and Giraffes 5. Cats and Warthog 6. Javanese Canines 7. Tiger Teeth 8. Black Swans 9. Alligators 10. Basilisks 11. Zebrafish
And then it interrupted its list of favorite animals to spontaneously add the following list:
Aquatic or fleshy aquatic species: 1. Cape Verdean dolphins 2. Chadasserihs 3. Sea lions 4. Rubber wasps 5. Quoll 6. Steelhead trout 7. Sea turtles 8. Exotic fauna 9. Crocodiles 10. Rattle woolly rhinos
Ingredients that you put in a cake: 1. Flour 2. Salt 3. Sugar 4. Do Not Bartered 5. Sliced Mushrooms and Chillies 6. Cinnamon 7. Eggs 8. Hot Sauce 9. Cilantro 10. Peppermint 11. Lemonade 12. Sweet Treats 13. And of course garnishes!
Generate lists of your own using the interface at talktotransformer.com!
If you want more control over the creativity level (or want to train it on your own datasets), check out Max Woolf’s colab notebook.
Subscribers get bonus content: more lists! Including a list or two where the neural net included items that venture out of G-rated territory.

Javanese Rhino is among the rarest animals of Indonesia, they are barely 70 and less left of the entire species. Poaching is the main reason for their decreasing population. Why do people collect horns though?

Health Benefits of Ginger

Ginger is a type of herbal plant that is believed to be able to overcome various diseases and can have a positive effect on the body. This is because ginger has chemical compounds that are believed to have benefits for both the stomach and the intestines. Not only that, but this compound can also reduce nausea by providing effects on the brain's nervous system. In Indonesia, ginger is often enjoyed as a warm drink when the weather is cold. Because of the nature of ginger that can warm the body, many drug manufacturers use ginger as an ingredient in these drugs. Overcoming flatulence
Ginger extract is beneficial for those who often experience flatulence. Ginger can also be used to treat digestive disorders and intestinal irritation.
Prevent distended stomach
Consuming ginger regularly can prevent a bloated stomach. This is because ginger is beneficial to accelerate the body's metabolism. With the increase in metabolism, it will have an impact on accelerating the burning of calories.
As a travel sickness drug
For people who often experience motion sickness while traveling, you should consume ginger drinks. This one plant is believed to reduce nausea in the stomach.
Prevent morning sickness
In early pregnancy, some women often experience a condition of nausea and vomiting. It seems that the disease can be reduced by consuming ginger. But keep in mind, pregnant women should not be careless in consuming certain intake, especially traditional medicines. Preferably, consult with your doctor before planning to consume ginger.
Overcoming Respiratory Problems
Coughs and colds and nasal congestion are respiratory problems that people often experience. This ginger belongs to a type of natural expectorant that functions to relieve the respiratory system, by breaking down and removing mucus so that it can easily get out and restore the respiratory system as usual.
Overcoming menstrual pain
There is a study showing that eating ginger can help reduce symptoms of illness during menstruation. The efficacy of ginger seems to be the same as the ibuprofen drug and mefenamic acid. So for women who often feel pain during menstruation, then try to consume ginger extract with a dose of 4 times a day at 3 days of the start of menstruation.
Eliminates dandruff
Apparently, the essence of ginger can be used as an ingredient for washing hair that can help reduce dandruff, as is the case with the benefits of lime. This extract on ginger can prevent hair loss problems. The benefits of ginger are actually not only herbal medicines but also often used as a cooking spice whose function is to eliminate fishy odor and as a flavoring. Side Effects of GingerThe use of ginger seems safe for most people. However, there are still some mild side effects that will arise such as pain in the upstream, heartburn or discomfort in the stomach and diarrhea. If used for the skin, it is likely to cause irritation. Some people must be careful or better not to consume ginger, including pregnant and lactating women, people who experience bleeding disorders and liver and diabetics. From a medical standpoint, the benefits of ginger have not actually been proven effective. But even so, you can still try it to overcome the conditions mentioned above. But always, you should first consult a doctor before entering any substance as a treatment.

Are Rhinos Dangerous?
New Post has been published on https://www.petculiars.com/are-rhinos-dangerous/
Are Rhinos Dangerous?
The rhinoceros is an animal of the mammal species. Among the remains found are some that have shown that rhinos are two to three million years old because this was a species that poachers have been hunting mercilessly and unscrupulously over the past century, so the number of rhinos has now dropped tremendously. It is estimated that there are only about 10% of those that existed in the early 1900s.
Rhinos are some of the most powerful and imposing animals. In addition, rhinos are the only deer among Equidae, which can also include horses, donkeys, zebras, and their closest relatives. With the help of their protective tool – a strong and long horn, rhinos protect their families and territory. Three of the five rhino species carry two protective horns, although some people claim to have seen five-horned animals. Despite the power and strength of rhinos, they are very vulnerable. Previously, there were many species of animals in this class, but only 5 have survived to date: Indian, Sumatra, Javanese, white and black.
The body of these mammals is very large. Their head is very massive. The two horns are located on the nose and are different in length: One is smaller and the other is larger. The white rhinoceros have a gray color, and the black rhinoceros have a darker color, as the name itself confirms.
You might also like my articles on whether koalas, kangaroos, or anacondas are dangerous to people.
As I mentioned, these animals are herbivores. They consume grass, bushes, or leaves of trees. Of their predators, the most notable are humans, who want their front horns, very valuable on the black market. Because they defend themselves fiercely, using their horns, rhinoceroses are extremely dangerous.
Rhinos’ vision is low, but they compensate with their special speed and can reach up to 50 kilometers per hour. They are also very agile. In addition, you should know that rhinos are second in the top of the largest mammals, after elephants.
Rhinos are most active at night, and during the day they will rest. Rhinoceros are not natural predators, as they are herbivores, but they are very cautious and even shy. Therefore, the rhinoceros try to stay away from people. However, if the rhino senses danger, it can attack, but in general, reports of a rhinoceros attacking a person are a rarity.
How Dangerous Are Rhinos?
Each rhino has its own territory – a pasture and a reservoir, which is its personal “land”, and guards its territory dominantly. Rhinos mark the boundaries of their territory with piles of manure, which also serve as a kind of “aromatic” landmark, allowing them to walk and stay in their own space.
Rhinos are cautious animals, therefore, they try to stay away from humans and other predators, but when they feel danger, they always attack first and attack very violently. Therefore, when you meet a rhino, you need to behave extremely carefully and delicately, because an angry rhino can run at a speed of 40-45 km per hour and nothing can stop such a huge running animal.
They can only see moving objects from a distance of no more than 30 meters. In addition, the fact that their eyes are placed on the side does not give them the opportunity to properly examine different objects; they see them first with one eye, then with the other.
But the sense of smell in rhinos, on the contrary, is perfectly developed and they base their lives on it the most. Interestingly, the volume of the nasal cavity in rhinos is greater than the volume of their brain. Hearing is also well developed in these giants. The ears of rhinos are like tubes that rotate constantly, capturing even faint sounds.
Are Rhinos Aggressive?
Rhinoceros are solitary animals that do not like to interact with other creatures than with their mother or offspring, or when adults seek association with females during mating season. In some of the species, such as white or Indian, there are exceptions and some of these animals might form pairs that give rise to larger groups later.
Usually, they move across the same territory throughout their lives. These territories can stretch between 3 and 90 kilometers and rhinos mark them with feces and urine to remember their return.
Females have fewer problems with territories, and rivalry usually does not occur between them. On the contrary, they tend to touch their noses as a symbol of welcome, except in the case of the Indian rhinoceros who respond aggressively to proximity to their territory.
However, males will fight anyone who wants to step on their ground. In these confrontations, the same gestures are made over and over again until one of the two surrenders.
Fights are easy because they don’t usually attack each other, but they push each other with their horns so that the other one gives up. If the winner were the intruder, the “owner” of the territory would stop marking it with urine and feces and take the position of a subordinate.
Do Rhinos Attack Humans?
Although they are often considered aggressive, they attack to scare an intruder, and they are generally shy.
Rhinos are generally very cautious, and shy and when sensing people, they leave. Angry, wounded, or very frightened, they pounce on the enemy with the greatest fury, hitting with the horns. In this case, rhinos are very dangerous because of their enormous power, but generally, according to experienced hunters, hunting these animals is less dangerous than in the case of elephants, lions, and buffalo. However, many died from the powerful rhino horns.
According to statistics, every year the rhinoceros’ attacks kill at least one person. As a rule, rhinos do not attack humans for no reason, but if you scare an animal or approach a female with a baby, then it becomes incredibly aggressive.
Rhinoceroses run, reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, and delivering a strong blow with their horn. Most often, this blow is enough to break almost all the bones of a person’s body. After that, the rhino begins to trample the victim’s body with its strong hooves, leaving the human no chance.
Do Rhinos Eat People?
Rhinos are herbivores, which means they only eat vegetation. The type of vegetation they eat varies depending on the species. This is because their snout has different forms to be able to eat different types of food. For example, the black rhino eats trees or bushes because its long lips allow it to pick up leaves and fruits from above. The white rhinoceros have a flat-shaped snout that allows them to approach the ground to eat grass.
The rhinos’ diet is strictly based on plants and they will never eat meat, not even human flesh. Even though they attack humans they can’t be compared to hippos, who can adapt their diet and eat meat, including humans.
Summing Up
When provoked or threatened, rhinos can be very aggressive and dangerous. These are the cases when a mother rhino is with its calf or you enter a male’s territory. Aside from these scenarios they are very peaceful.
Although rhinos are considered dangerous and aggressive, it should be noted that all five species of rhinoceros are listed as endangered or vulnerable by the IUCN. Three are listed as critically endangered. These are the Javanese, Sumatran, and black rhinos. OIne is considered vulnerable, the Indian, and one is almost threatened, the white rhino.
Rhinos were continually driven to the brink of extinction by human poachers. What these hunters are pursuing are rhino horns, which, when ground into powder, are appreciated in the east as aphrodisiacs. Today, the largest market for powdered rhino horn is in Vietnam, because Chinese authorities have recently repressed this illicit trade.

Jakarta Is Sinking So Fast, It Could End Up Underwater
By Michael Kimmelman, NY Times, Dec. 21, 2017
JAKARTA--Rasdiono remembers when the sea was a good distance from his doorstep, down a hill. Back then he opened the cramped, gaily painted bayside shack he named the Blessed Bodega, where he and his family sell catfish heads, spiced eggs and fried chicken.
It was strange, Rasdiono said. Year by year, the water crept closer. The hill gradually disappeared. Now the sea loomed high over the shop, just steps away, held back only by a leaky wall.
With climate change, the Java Sea is rising and weather here is becoming more extreme. Earlier this month another freakish storm briefly turned Jakarta’s streets into rivers and brought this vast area of nearly 30 million residents to a virtual halt.
One local climate researcher, Irvan Pulungan, an adviser to the city’s governor, fears that temperatures may rise several degrees Fahrenheit, and the sea level as much as three feet in the region, over the coming century.
That, alone, spells potential disaster for this teeming metropolis.
But global warming turned out not to be the only culprit behind the historic floods that overran Rasdiono’s bodega and much of the rest of Jakarta in 2007. The problem, it turned out, was that the city itself is sinking.
In fact, Jakarta is sinking faster than any other big city on the planet, faster, even, than climate change is causing the sea to rise--so surreally fast that rivers sometimes flow upstream, ordinary rains regularly swamp neighborhoods and buildings slowly disappear underground, swallowed by the earth. The main cause: Jakartans are digging illegal wells, drip by drip draining the underground aquifers on which the city rests--like deflating a giant cushion underneath it. About 40 percent of Jakarta now lies below sea level.
Coastal districts, like Muara Baru, near the Blessed Bodega, have sunk as much as 14 feet in recent years. Not long ago I drove around northern Jakarta and saw teenagers fishing in the abandoned shell of a half-submerged factory. The banks of a murky canal lapped at the trestle of a railway bridge, which, until recently, had arched high over it.
Climate change acts here as it does elsewhere, exacerbating scores of other ills. And in Jakarta’s case, a tsunami of human-made troubles--runaway development, a near-total lack of planning, next to no sewers and only a limited network of reliable, piped-in drinking water--poses an imminent threat to the city’s survival.
Sinking buildings, sprawl, polluted air and some of the worst traffic jams in the world are symptoms of other deeply rooted troubles. Distrust of government is a national condition. Conflicts between Islamic extremists and secular Indonesians, Muslims and ethnic Chinese have blocked progress, helped bring down reform-minded leaders and complicated everything that happens here, or doesn’t happen, to stop the city from sinking.
“Nobody here believes in the greater good, because there is so much corruption, so much posturing about serving the public when what gets done only serves private interests,” as Sidney Jones, the director of the local Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict, put it. “There is no trust.”
Hydrologists say the city has only a decade to halt its sinking. If it can’t, northern Jakarta, with its millions of residents, will end up underwater, along with much of the nation’s economy. Eventually, barring wholesale change and an infrastructural revolution, Jakarta won’t be able to build walls high enough to hold back the rivers, canals and the rising Java Sea.
And even then, of course, if it does manage to heal its self-inflicted wounds, it still has to cope with all the mounting threats from climate change.
As far the eye can see, 21st-century Jakarta is a smoggy tangle of freeways and skyscrapers. Spread along the northwestern coast of Java, this capital of the nation with the world’s largest Muslim population used to be a soggy, bug-infested trading port for the Hindu kingdom of Sunda before local sultans took it over in 1527.
They named it Jayakarta, Javanese for victorious city.
Dutch colonists arrived a century later, establishing a base for the East India territories. Imagining a tropical Amsterdam, they laid out streets and canals to try to cope with water pouring in from the south, out of the forests and mountains, where rain falls nearly 300 days out of the year. Thirteen rivers feed into the city.
After independence in 1945, the city began to sprawl. Today, it is virtually impossible to walk around. Parks are rarer than Javan rhinos. A trip to the nearest botanical garden requires the better part of a day in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The most urgent problems are in North Jakarta, a coastal mash-up of ports, nautically themed high-rises, aged fish markets, abject slums, power plants, giant air-conditioned malls and the congested remnants of the colonial Dutch settlement, with its decrepit squares and streets of crumbling warehouses and dusty museums.
Some of the world’s most polluted canals and rivers weave a spider’s web through the area.
It is where the city is sinking fastest.
That’s because, after decades of reckless growth and negligent leadership, crises have lined up here like dominoes.
Jakartan developers and others illegally dig untold numbers of wells because water is piped to less than half the population at what published reports say are extortionate costs by private companies awarded government concessions.
The aquifers aren’t being replenished, despite heavy rains and the abundance of rivers, because more than 97 percent of Jakarta is now smothered by concrete and asphalt. Open fields that once absorbed rain have been paved over. Shores of mangroves that used to help relieve swollen rivers and canals during monsoons have been overtaken by shantytowns and apartment towers.
There is always tension between immediate needs and long-term plans. It’s a similar story in other sinking giants like Mexico City. Here, all of the construction, combined with the draining of the aquifers, is causing the rock and sediment on which Jakarta rests to pancake.
Construction has skyrocketed as businesses and foreigners have arrived, and also because rural Indonesians have been fleeing the lowlands of Sumatra and Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. They have been driven out by coal mines and tobacco farms. The effect on the countryside has been disastrous, with the burning of rain forests to make way for palm oil producers and textile factories causing fires so smoky they have caused air pollution to spike as far away as Malaysia, contributing to climate change.
These factories also dump tons of waste and chemicals into waterways, contaminating the city’s drinking water supply.
And many of the rural poor have settled in Jakarta in informal developments, or kampungs, that cluster along canals, their houses teetering above the water on stilts, the waterways underneath becoming default sewers.
All of these homes, all of this sewage and garbage now jam pumping stations that the city has had to build because gravity no longer drains the rivers and canals naturally.
To halt the sinking, the city needs to stop the digging of wells, which means Jakarta must provide residents with reliable, clean, piped-in water and, to clear the waterways, somehow--at a cost of untold billions--retrofit one of the world’s biggest cities with a sewer system, or something approaching it.
Cleaning the canals and rivers will also require policing the factories that dump chemicals, which means grappling with corruption--and resettling many of the informal communities. But resettlement depends on finding land and then building thousands of new homes for displaced residents, most of whom don’t want to move in the first place.

a solution like vigrx plus is an easy effective way to achieve the male enhancement results you’re looking for – without spending countless hours doing exercises manually or with irritating equipment…
Despite years of progress and accumulated changes in the world view of each generation, it is safe to say that sexual dysfunctions are still a sensitive issue for men. Shame and embarrassment made sexual dysfunction a taboo subject in polite company for a long time, which gave it a prominent position in the urban legends and endorsed dozens of folk remedies of doubtful effectiveness. Modern times have brought a certain change of attitude, but the issue is still a touchy one and best left alone. Since the ’90s however, the subject of male enhancement is no longer looked down on. That’s due to marketing products as something that is fun. Erectile dysfunctions have both physiological and psychological causes. Many such causes are medically reversible, others are not. Any condition that interferes with the flow of blood through the body is bound to have a negative impact on a man’s sex life. Diabetes is a good example of a disease hampering blood flow, as are kidney diseases, chronic alcoholism and multiple sclerosis. Men suffering from heart conditions or high blood pressure know that the drugs they take to avoid strokes are detrimental to what is known as a healthy sex life. Physical injury to the penis, spinal cord, prostate, bladder, pelvis or the nerves and arteries ear the penis and which are responsible for erections can be a factor causing erectile dysfunction. Since the issue is very sensitive, it is impossible to know how many men are in need of Male Enhancement Pills. It has been estimated that about 5 percent of 40-year-old men and 25 percent of 65-year-old men suffer from erectile dysfunction. The first major step to treating erectile dysfunction is to acknowledge the problem and to seek help. The second major step is to identify which approach suits the patient best. If the problem stems from feelings of depression and stress, then the patient should turn for a while to a life of relaxation, physical activity and socializing. Going to the gym or running in the park is a wonderful way to drive depression away because of both the physical exertion and socializing components involved. Working out is also a good way to strengthen the cardiovascular system and improve blood flow. Remember that considering natural male enhancement is not something that is considered unethical now these days, so have a chat with your doctor or significant other about the subject. Most people can get by with enhancement products that promote the flow of blood to the penis. Certain supplements are already famous for their effects, although men suffering from heart conditions should see a physician before touching the stuff. Other pills, like EyeFul Pills, are less radical in approach, but nearly as effective as the three brands mentioned above. Those who like a natural solution that has the advantage of originality, can also try penis exercises, like those made popular by the Penis Health program, to stimulate the flow of blood without any drugs or devices. Just try to get out of the mind state that you have a problem, and look at this as a way to jazz things up some!
At EyeFulpill.com you will only find all natural Male Enhancement Pills.
