Today’s a weird day. Lots of photography loose ends to tie up, and I won’t get a chance to pick up my cello. It’s been a weird old journey transitioning as a professional from one industry to another, and now I find myself incredibly restless, wanting to just play and improve my performance skills ALL the time. : My sole income is through my cello now, just playing (no teaching). I never thought I’d see the day. Sooooo...anyone who knows me will know that 1) I don’t always take crap lying down (and even when I do, I’ll still throw that crap right back at you. Eventually.). 2) I ALWAYS push my boundaries. 3) Inspiration - being or witnessing - is something very close to my heart. 4) I literally refuse to quit. Those people that know me, will not be surprised by this pic. I sorta think you knew it would happen eventually. : To those that don’t know me (including me, sometimes), OMFG YOU GUYS LOOK WHAT I WILL BE DOING FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS AHHHHHMAHHHHHHHGAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! : I cried as soon as I opened the email. The email I received less than 24 hours after my audition via video. The email I didn’t even consider little over 2 weeks ago. : I was going to go for an LRSM, but I knew it wouldn’t be enough; I wanted more than that, but didn’t know which path. Then 2 weeks ago, a random(!) advert popped up, regarding doing Masters in Music at @unibirmingham. It made SO much sense, but doing a Personal Statement, written assignment, and learn 20min performance before the 31st Aug deadline??!?!?!!! : CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. : You guys. I am SO. FREAKING. Laughing SO MUCH at my concentration face. I’m currently working on improving my bowing arm (I need to RELAAAAAXXXX) so I’ve got video set up while practising in front of a mirror. It’s SO GOOD and something that all musicians should do (regularly or at some point). Unfortunately you get to see all the stupid frowny faces you pull. 😂👿👹🤣 : The piece I’m working on is Kol Nidrei composed by Max Bruch. Only started it last Friday - it’s freaking LUSH and it’s starting to take shape on the ever-so-lovely Sid. This kid. He’s more talented than he realises, and literally has the world at his fingertips. Every so often he’ll ask if he can play one of my cellos (ALWAYS responding with yes of course), and he’ll spend time just enjoying the instrument as whole, making sounds, understanding the science of it. Doesn’t want lessons or any sort of tuition, and that’s fine. But he’s such a natural at it. (And no, he hasn’t got it from me, because all I’ve taught him is how to sit with it, and how to make a sound. I rarely practise whilst The Smalls are around.)
