the other day, i was at the flea market and picked up the most beautiful antique union machinist tool chest for an absolutely ridiculous price… like a good half of what i would’ve had to pay online, less still than what it would cost new, and in better condition/better quality make than both. i had to replace the felting and reattach the mirror, glue a couple joints back up or whatever, but i’m pretty ecstatic about it. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

in other news…. i’ve been continuing my hbo war watch through—so far, i’ve gotten through band of brothers, the pacific, masters of the air (honorary addition, i know it’s not hbo), and i just finished generation kill….. favorite long fics would be much appreciated, if there are any fellow appreciators out there.

The oldest known cello in the world is "The King" made by Italian instrument maker Andrea Amati (c. 1505 - 26 December 1577) around mid-16th century AD in Cremona, Italy.

It was part of a set of 38 stringed instruments made for the court of King Charles IV of France.

some more photos from the other week

my friend and i spend our lunch hour in silence at a nearby cafe having croissants and cortados, reading and writing. i’ve been enjoying my hobonichi/kaweko pen together so much, they’ve actually inspired me to write more just so i can have the pleasure of fountain pen on paper. it’s all a pleasant compliment to the fall mood 🍂🍂🍂

Alder Body Prep and Glue-up. I almost always glue two pieces together and use the joint as my center line. This body is getting a eucalyptus top. I planed the alder down to 1 ½” and the top will be ¼”. After the glue-up I scrape the excess glue then I’ll run this through my drum sander just to flatten everything out.
