JB Smut Swap 2022 Rec List

Every time I participate in an exchange, I swear this is the time I will finish and post a rec list and yet I never do. But we’ve got about half a day until the author reveals for the @jb-smut-swap and I am procrastinating heavily, so here are 9 fics from the exchange that I can heartily recommend. (Did I roll a D20 to settle on a number? POSSIBLY)

The gif has nothing to do with anything, I just felt like hurting myself with their faces. 😭And now on to the recs!

First off, my gift fic The glaciers made you and now you're mine is a lovely modern AU take of post-battle caretaking, featuring Jaime and Brienne as surfers. They’re stubborn and soft and full of banter, and the hints of scar kink are fucking delightful.

Gorgeous prose hinting at a whole world, and a deeply complicated JB relationship made tonight you're thinking of cities under crowns of snow a recommendation impossible to ignore. The moody noir vibe is impeccable and a personal weakness.

what happens in volantis and What Happens in Dorne share not only a similar title, but a similar premise: a vacationing established relationship JB have a threesome with a man from the past. And yet, despite these similarities, they manage to both be distinctive, smoking hot romps I will be rereading.

Rope-drunk Jaime, giddy and eager to share the pleasure, made One and Only some deeply affectionate shibari fic. *chef’s kiss*

A sci-fi AU of canon events introduced some sex pollen, quite literally, in show me love (wilder than your wildest dreams, weirder than your fantasies) at a moment where Jaime and Brienne are almost ready to embrace what is between them.

A western-inspired vampire hunter AU, Drink Deep has fantastic world building, monster-fucking, and Brienne facing a moral dilemma. Monster fics can be a bit hit-or-miss for me, but the emotional stakes involved really drew me in, and if there was ever a sequel I’d be first in line to read it.

I might propose marriage to the author of Tempered, because I have wanted a blacksmith Brienne AU for… years, at this point. And this is more than I could have hoped--the competence, the tension, the undeniable attention but also the fondness… Fantastic

Set on an Industrial Revolution era version of Tarth, where Brienne is one of the last septas on an otherwise empty island, Shoreline is one of those AUs you absolutely didn’t know you needed until you have it, but fuck did I need it. The sense of place, the complex, dutiful inner life we see of Brienne from Jaime’s POV… It’s just an absolutely wonderful story that leaves you tasting the sea.

I suspect I could have filled a rec list with a dozen more fics quite happily, but this is why I never get rec lists done 😂 So I’ll close out this list with a link to the entire collection, and a massive thank you to @bussdowntarthiana and @wildlingoftarth for organising!

Officially, of course, he's still looking for somewhere else to live, while he's here. Officially he's still staying in her spare room, and officially he definitely hasn’t spent every night in Brienne’s bed for the last three weeks.

*** When Brienne asks for his help investigating murders in the Vale, Jaime can't say no.

Ok finally I can tell everyone I've written smth more than 1k words and it's actually 4,4k words fic for marvelous @seethemflying for marvelous prompt with tipsy best friends playing strip cards and talking about their feelings

the prompt was too good to resist

it's still not ideal but I'm only human writing in non-native language so I'm pretty proud of myself

and because I love to complicate my life I've taken another prompt as Smut Keeper and that is for an equally wonderful Puppytooth with tender and soft post-stone heart

because I like nothing better than writing soft post-ADWD sex

I put off reading this for a while thinking that the headline was a little too much hyperbole. But when I did read have to say that the Post’s research was sound and I was out of date. On the other hand it’s not that American’s love beef but how poorly regulated multinationals source beef, and how their lobbyists prevent origin labeling, are contributing to the problem. (IMHO)

Presented with The Post’s findings on its supply chain, including the names of the particularly notorious suppliers, JBS said it had severed ties with the men. The company acknowledged that its deforestation monitoring system targets ranches, not their owners, though many operate multiple properties — some sanctioned and some not — and can shuffle cattle between them.

Once the animals arrive at the JBS plants, the process leading to export to the United States can begin. Shipment records provided by Panjiva, the trade research unit of S&P Global Market Intelligence, show that JBS exports almost all of its U.S.-bound beef to its own American facilities.

But neither the U.S. government nor the American consumer knows where it goes from there. Once imported beef passes inspection, it can be stripped of all labels that identify it as foreign-sourced and be sold as if it were produced domestically. No federal agency tracks the domestic sale of imported beef. And retailers aren’t obligated to inform consumers of the raw beef’s country of origin. That labeling requirement was repealed with the passage of the 2016 omnibus spending bill. (emphasis added)

To try to locate the beef, The Post asked 16 national grocery and restaurant chains whether they sell JBS beef from Brazil. Only Kroger and Albertsons said they did — but a very small amount. Goya Foods has imported nearly 2 million pounds of canned Brazilian beef since March 2020, trade records show. The company didn’t respond to requests for comment.

And to everyone who participated and helped with their success! Forgive me if I missed anyone!

Probably double that if you add fic that hasn't gone public on AO3 yet, WIPs, and pieces that ended up not working.

10: What work was the quickest to write?

Writing the first draft? Here We Go to War, written for @kiraziwrites in the JB Festive Festival Exchange 2021. In the end, the fic more than doubled in size after beta comments. Possibly more if I count all the pieces that ended up cut despite how much it expanded during the beta process. The first draft was the quickest, easiest thing.

Of course, the first draft was also written in 2021, though I finished posting it in 2022.

The quickest written and posted entirely in 2022? Come Over and Make Up My Mind, written for @aviss in Jaime x Brienne Smut Swap Quickies.

It took several months to finish posting it, but each individual chapter (it's a five times fic) was quick, quick, quick to write.

6: Favorite title you used

I hate titling fic, and I am bad at it. That might be why I hate it, actually.

I do like Drink Deep, written for @corinalannister in The Exchange that was Promised: Jaime x Brienne Smut Swap 2022. It is likely too on the nose for a vampire AU, but I like it.

I also like Never Easy Prey, written for major in Trick or Treat Exchange 2022. Again, it's very on the nose for a Alien vs. Predator canon divergence, but it makes me smile.
