Oh man! I read so much inception fic actually, but here's what I currently have in my ao3 bookmarks:

Any good stories from shows where something went wrong and you saved the day?

So as a lighting tech/designer, "saving the day" is often figuring out where to put a light or finding a replacement cable. Most of the actually important work I do is preventing issues from arising with checks and stuff

Things going wrong, however, well. Let me tell you about the venue under the train tracks. Anyone who has worked here will recognise it, but I shan't say it's name for now.

I was in charge of two spaces at this venue, one was known as the long wet one, the other was the "real theatre". The Long wet one was a long wet tunnel where we installed 3 different layouts of seating in 9 months for the 3 shows we had in.

When I say it was wet, the dimmer rack for lights, and Power distribution were placed on 3 high stacks of wooden pallettes and covered with a tarp which I had to crawl under every day to power on and off (and to troubleshoot faulty lights). Leaks were happening literally above the distro units, if it rained then the first thing in the morning would be to mop the floor of the swimming pool that was forming (great fun when there's lino on the floor, covering the concrete, starting to peel up because of the damp) next job was to replace all the absorption socks along the walls to catch the water streaming down them. On top of that, I had to repaint the walls because the continuos stream of water would cause the paint to flake off.

And I haven't even mentioned the rats. 3 cables, they chewed through 3 cables and these weren't small little sound cables

32amp three-phase cable, they chewed through a 32a 3 phase cable. If you know your power distro cables, you will know how

a. stiff these fuckers are and difficult to chew through (I imagine I haven't actually tried to chew through one myself tbc)

b. Incredibly deadly and dangerous, these are if the sheathing has been chewed through (like they're pretty safe as a rated cable to interact with)

walked in one day to see a trip on the distro board, look behind the dimmer rack to find bare copper on this bad boy and the scent of sizzling rat, realise how close I came to death

Do you think Peeta realises how hard Katniss is on herself?. We know from reading her inner monologue how deep her self loathing is but she doesn’t necessary wear that on her sleeve.

hey anon! i think i’ve been sitting on this ask for awhile so thanks for your patience :p

i think the victory tour probably gives peeta a lot of insight into this. realizing she has nightmares multiple times a night, the way she responds to the man’s death in district 11 like she killed him herself, the overall despair in her mood until snow confirms it wasn’t enough i think would give him some idea. also, i think her willingness to self-sacrifice so he could win the quell is a little telling, and her suicide attempt after assassinating coin, too.

this is somewhat complicated because of the nature of their relationship and general outsider’s perspective. her actions on the victory tour can be seen from a response of anxiety/fear without factoring in the self-loathing. coin’s assassination has so many possible explanations that self-loathing could be ignored. also, katniss’s greatest self-loathing happens in mockingjay where peeta is largely absent/hijacked. i imagine after the war when they are growing back together he takes notice of it.

side note: this reminded me of my deep deep deep desire to know peeta’s thoughts about katniss trying to sacrifice herself for him. like what does he think is her reason why?

I can help with specific things, I'm trained in a fencing-type theatre sword, quarter staff (which covers staffs/spear type weapons) and unarmed combat.

For the voice acting I suggest Backstage Monologue Finder. you can filter by age, gender, contemporary or classical, and themes.

And honestly, for most auditions, even voice acting, your phone is sufficient as long as you film in a quiet place. You don't need fancy stuff, but if it's for the long term or you get the gig, I would suggest investing in your own stuff, probably not renting a studio, as it's more cost-effective to do it yourself.

Audacity is a free program; I suggest getting it, along with a mic, and as long as you own a computer/laptop of any kind, you're golden.

My big advice: don't be afraid of showing what you can do and who you are in your auditions. Only you can uniquely do what only you can do. That's special and enough. No one can play the same character the way you can. Casting is always just looking for someone with a specific vision in mind, nothing to do with your talent/what you can do. Your value never lies in whether you get it or not. It lies in you trying, learning and growing.

Okay so my favourite ttrpg changes as I play them but right now it's A.N.I.M's EURKEA!

I have always been a fan of murder mysteries from Agatha Christie, to pie in the sky, Midsomer Murders, Rosemary and Thyme and everything in between.

I had run several murder mysteries in different ttrpgs and even a couple of murder mystery larps (including a spectacular zombie one) but I'd never found a system that truely captured what murder mysteries feel like.

Then I discovered Eureka and the Eureka mechanic and it all clicked. You could say it was a eureka moment.

I'm going to discuss in some detail the mechanic and give an example but before that everyone should go and

Essentially A.N.I.M have separated dice rolls into two categories

1. Investigation rolls

2. Non-investigation rolls

Investigation rolls are when an investigator is trying to uncover information or clues to progress the investigation. (Pretty clear definition) non-investigation rolls are all other rolls (combat, hiding secrets, getting out of dodge etc.)

Whenever an investigator makes an investigation roll there are 3 possible outcomes

1 Failure - they do not success and/or complications arise - they gain 3 Eureka points

2 partial success/mixed success - they get part of a clue or a clue and a complication - they gain 2 Eureka points

3 full success - they gain the clue without issue - they gain one Eureka point

When the investigators have a full eureka bar they can use a EUREKA!

This allows them to roll a check with 3d6 and take the highest instead of 2d6 or (my favourite option) gain clues from previous failed rolls.

So to take the most iconic episode of Midsomer Murders as an example - "The Killings At Badgers Drift"

Spoilers and CW for references to incest.

DCI Barnerby arrests the foppish artist on suspicion of murder, during the arrest the artist's sister arrives and the artist crys out "I've been framed" and makes a sign of a square with his fingers.

The DCI Makes an investigation roll but biffs it, snake eyes, complete failure, no hope of discovering that clue.

Later on The DCI is talking to a woman at a call centre who was the last known person to speak to the victim. Apparently the victim said "just like poor annabella" before hanging up. Again the DCI makes an investigation roll this time getting a partial success, there is someone related who has a name similar to annabella who died from an "accident" and the DCI decides to investigate this accident as well now, thinking (correctly) that it might not be so accidental.

But now the DCI has a full eureka bar and so the player shouts out eureka to gain the clue from the failed check earlier. And so, that night, the DCI has a dream of all the relevant clues and realises the clue missed when the artist made the symbol and said "I've been framed" it was a code, to tell his sister that the evidence of their affair (the nude painting he did of her) was in the attic and could prove that they were working together to keep their affair secret. This new vital clue allows the DCI to search for, and find, the painting helping to solve the mystery.

And so that is one reason I love eureka, along with the approach to disability and monster characters. It's currently got a free demo and stuff, go support them they're great.
