#108 Vidas Perfectas (Mother's instinct) 2024

Celine (Anne Hathaway) y Alice (Jessica Chastain) son vecinas, pero también son muy amigas, las mejores amigas. Sus hijos son muy buenos amigos, y por extensión sus maridos, son todos tan amigos y es todo tan perfecto que cuesta creer como más que amigos son familia.

Celine es una mujer serena, una madre dedicada y una esposa que adora cuidar su casa y su marido. Por el contrario, Alice es una madre sobre protectora, una esposa que no quiere ser sumisa, y no quiere tener más hijos.

Cuando era pequeña los padres de Alice murieron en un accidente de coche mientras ella iba dormida detrás, eso la llevo a tener una ansiedad que, sin medicación, se le va fácilmente de las manos. De hecho, cuando nace su hijo, Theo tuvo otro incidente, ya que se sentía incapaz de cuidar de su hijo y tuvo que ser internada en una institución mental.

Celine adora ser madre, hasta tal punto que cuando dio a luz a su hijo Max y le dijeron que no podría tener más hijos se vino su mundo abajo.

Ambas mujeres se complementan, se dan soporte emocional, y se ayudan en la crianza de sus hijos.

El día después del cumpleaños de Celine, su hijo Max no se encuentra bien y decide que se quede en casa con ella mientras hace sus labores. Alice en su casa está cuidando el jardín y ve al niño encima de la barandilla del balcón y pese a que lo llama para que deje de internar, colgar una pajarera que han hecho para clase. Por mucho que lo llama y que la mujer intenta acceder por un agujero que tienen los niños por el seto que separa las dos casas, pero no cabe. Y sale corriendo hacia la puerta principal de la casa de Celine, llamando insistentemente, pero su amiga no abre, así que al final consigue abrir la puerta y sube corriendo las escaleras, mientas que Celine que estaba con la aspiradora y no la había escuchado va detrás de ella. Cuando Alice se asoma y ve que el niño ha caído, se da cuenta de que no hay nada que hacer y Celine se rompe.

Max muere y ni Celine ni Theo, el hijo de Alice, pueden sobrellevarlo bien, por lo que ambos se tienen mucho cariño y se hacen mucha compañía, tanto que el niño la considera su amiga junto a su abuela paterna.

Theo es retraído, y un niño un poco enfermizo, con una alergia muy severa a los cacahuetes, y cuando muere su único amigo no logra sobreponerse, por eso pasa tiempo en casa de Celine.

La familia perfecta de Celine se desmorona, su marido, Damian (Josh Charles) se rompe, toda la vida perfecta que tenían, y ambos se hunden en el alcohol. Lo único que salva a Celine son las visitas de Theo.

En una de esas visitas Theo juega en el mismo balcón desde el que se cae Max, y cuando Alice lo ve sale corriendo, esta vez y de forma agresiva se cuela por el hueco entre los setos de las dos casas y llega al patio de Celine, esta sale de detrás de Theo y le dice que siente que se asustara, pero que estaba con él y no iba a permitir que nada malo le ocurriera al niño.

Alice no la cree, piensa que Celine la ha puesto a prueba para demostrarle que si realmente hubiera querido salvar a su hijo hubiera logrado llegar a él, pero no parece que Celine piense eso en absoluto.

Celine es invitada por Theo a su cumpleaños y la abuela del niño que se llama Jean, que de forma poco amigable le dice a la mujer que no cree que sea positivo para el niño pasar tanto tiempo con ella y que debía pasar el duelo en su casa con su marido. Celine se siente consternada porque ella siempre se había considerado parte de su familia y ahora que está en su peor situación la apartan.

Aunque es cierto que al principio de la muerte de Max, Celine se aleja de Alice hasta que llega a ser internada durante un mes y pico, cuando vuelve se siente totalmente fuera de lugar.

La abuela Jean muere de repente y Alice piensa que ha sido Celine porque la abuela no fue amable con ella, por lo que pide que le hagan la autopsia, y le dicen que la mujer no tomaba su medicación, cosa que tanto Alice como su marido Simon (Anders Danielsen Lie) saben que no es cierto.

Alice ya está fuera de sí con sus sospechas sobre Celine y deciden tomar distancias, su amistad está rota, y la de sus maridos también, pero Theo no puede evitar escaparse de casa para visitar a Celine. En una de estas visitas con la desconfiada Alice en casa de Celine, su hijo come por sí solo unas galletas de cacahuete y tiene que ser ingresado por un shock anafiláctico.

Alice agrede a Celine pensando que lo ha planeado todo, y culpándola de la salud de su hijo, Simon, su marido, le pide que se calme o que tendrá que volver a internarla. Alice le cuenta todas sus sospechas a su marido y este no la cree y vuelve a repetirle que tendrá que internarla.

Mientas, Celine tiene una discusión con su marido Damian, el cual le pide que no vuelva a invitar a Theo a su casa, y le echa en cara que descuidara al niño y por eso se cayera y muriera.

Celine, harta de los problemas del alcohol de su marido y de su comportamiento tóxico, lo duerme con cloroformo en su copa de whisky, y se espera a que se quede dormido en la cama para preparar la escena de su suicidio, cortándole ella misma las venas.

La circunstancia ablanda a Alice y Simon y deciden llevar a Celine a su casa para que esté con ellos un par de días antes de mudarse a vivir a otro sitio. Theo y Celine vuelven a estar muy unidos y Alice se desquicia más, pero entiende que la mujer está teniendo muy mala suerte en su vida y decide cuidarla.

Como Celine viene con lo puesto, decide ir a su casa a por ropa y se da cuenta de que algo no está bien y que Celine es la culpable de las muertes de la abuela y de su marido, por lo que vuelve corriendo a su casa y ve a su marido inconsciente en el sofá. Sube para salvar a Theo, pero Celine la duerme con cloroformo mientras abraza a su hijo.

Celine manipula la salida del gas de la caldera de la familia y protege por dentro la puerta de la habitación de Theo (a él también lo ha dormido), y abre la ventana de la habitación para que el niño no se envenene con el dióxido de carbono, mientras deja a Alice y a Simon en el sofá, en la planta de abajo.

Un juez le da la custodia de Theo a Celine al encontrarse los dos en la situación de no tener más familiares, y juntos forman una familia feliz. Ambos se comprenden y se ayudan, y Celine consigue la familia perfecta que tanto quiso.

El final es previsible, pero quiero tanto a Anne Hathaway...

Based on "true" events, this is a mildly disappointing film written and directed by Adam Sigal. It looks good, the performances are good, the story is a cracker but the film is a non-starter. I can, therefore, only assume that the blame is entirely Adam Sigal's.

Advanced Discipline is a PWP in which Ed asks Stede to try CBT with him - something he got from Jack and misses - and Stede agrees just to give it a try because he loves Ed very much even though he thinks he will not like it. But not to worry! That man is a sadist lol it's literally fine and they both have a great time.

It also accidentally turned into a little bit of an exploration of the intersection of ADHD and a-spec sexuality, and how that can make you just kind of.... forget. about sex. up to and including when you're in the process of having some. aksfjklks. Sometimes things from the author bleed through! What can I say!

The Most Dangerous Game(s) is a witch noir 'verse short story from Ferris's POV. It takes place within the canon of the Stranger series, around the time when the siblings and Jessica are gearing up to bind Lily's powers. The title is a reference to the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. In that story, the 'most dangerous game' refers to human beings and 'game' is a pun referring both to a 'game' that you play and 'game' as in prey animals. Mine is the same pun, with the pluralization used to expand it to both the 'game' of hunting human beings and falling in love with them.
