wouldn't be surprised if i just missed it but have you made a compilation of refs you found useful while learning historical sewing?
i have not! that’s such a good idea. this is by no means extensive, but i hope it helps :)
resources for historical sewing
websites:
sew historical: this blog has everything from seam finishes to fashion timelines to drafting tutorials.
elizabethancostume.net: this website was invaluable to my first big project, a spanish farthingale.
james williams tailoring: for masculine clothing and tailoring techniques
met fashion plates database: for research and inspiration
youtube:
evelyn wood is indispensable if you are sewing from a pattern. she has videos on every possible machine technique to make you a better sewist.
cocovid was an online teaching event a few years ago; the videos are all still available on youtube. it’s a great playlist for basic skills, inspiration, and to introduce you to the resources available on youtube.
the costume community on youtube is very helpful, but each creator has their own blend of inspiration and tutorial. i suggest searching youtube for the project or period you would like to try and watching a bunch of videos to find out whose style works for you.
nicole rudolph’s fabric 101 videos
patterns:
here’s a free pattern for a very cute cape from american duchess, and another free pattern for cycling bloomers from black snail.
don’t use patterns by the big pattern companies (butterick, mccall’s, etc). use black snail, laughing moon, truly victorian, and other historically focussed companies. they will give real historical construction methods.
facebook groups: i know facebook is for old people, but these groups are very useful!
historybounding: for inspiration
historical sewing: for advice
historical costume sewing and sarcasm: for both
vintage clothing fixes: a highly opinionated group, but helpful especially for cleaning tips
time traveler’s rabbit hole: for primary sources
books: a lot of historical sewing books are very expensive. if you have university library access, you can get almost anything through interlibrary loan. talk to your librarian!
patterns of fashion: THE book series for historical costume. patterns for advanced sewists taken directly from extant garments. i just drool over them for now
bernadette banner has a new book out on hand sewing--i haven’t read it yet, but i really admire her hand sewing techniques.
general advice:
historical sewing takes a lot more time and effort than modern sewing. start small, with a cap or chemise, and prepare to be frustrated. don’t expect things to work the first time around. it’s okay to use modern construction methods or to not be historically accurate. trawl thrift stores for fabric, notions, bedsheets. work slowly. make mock-ups!!!
i learned a lot by examining vintage and antique clothing. one of the best purchases i made for my sewing journey was a vintage theatrical costume which had been taken in and out to fit many actors over the years. examining and fixing it was sooo useful.
for me, hand sewing is much more comfortable and soothing than machine, but i still use a machine for long seams and hems. if you want to hand sew, watch bernadette banner and juul thijssen’s videos on technique. learn to use a thimble!
take classes online and in your community. read 10-year old blog posts about highly specific projects. take your sewing everywhere. use cheap fabric the first time you make something.
talk to me on or off anon if you like! i’m by no means an expert, but i love talking about sewing and i can point you towards more specific resources.

I kind of hate that, as a historian, my knowledge bank is composed of two very contrasting things:
genocide/ethnic cleansing
historical textiles and fashion
like great, I can tell you about when x tried to kill a bunch of people or you can have me look at your favorite dumbass’ outfit and i can tell you all about a bunch of crazy little details you probably have no clue even existed

Okay I need to ramble about this Swedish romance movie I just saw because OH MY GOD-
So our main character was this girl named Joanna, who had ADHD. She was really socially anxious and awkward and had a hard time opening up but she and her problems were portrayed SO WELL😭 The actress playing her did an amazing job, it felt so genuine!!!
And the way they used visuals to portray her - whenever she had a censory overload or an anxiety attack they would use flashing lights and muffled, super loud background noise. And to contrast that whenever she was swimming (it was something that really helped her calm down) the entire screen would black apart from her and the surface of the water, and it'd either be silent or they'd play soft piano music on the background.
Oh and the love interest? A confident, understanding girl named Audrey. IT WAS A SAPPHIC MOVIE😭🥺
And they used that same thing they used with Joanna swimming when they kissed for the first time and cuddled and when I say I bawled my eyes out-
And then in the end Audrey helped Joanna to get a job at the same place she works at!!!

Katya's chaotic enough that I regularly fool myself into thinking you're the sensible/normal one and then you go and post something and I realize my folly
oh yeah i’m a little unhinged at times
i am very sensible and can smart my way in and out of situations and i can send a banger corporate email but if you know me very well oh damn
i have (and also this blog low key has) the combined energy of four influencers:
-b dylan hollis
Tumblr media
the tiktoker making the old recipes. he knows a weird amount about niche history topics, has general unhinged energy, and a slightly niche sense of humor. he also likes to fuck around in the kitchen and has a pretty generic Why Not Do It For The Bit vibe. his tiktok was also a quarantine project that got out of hand, much like this blog
-joanna ceddia
Tumblr media
a youtuber who dropped off the face of the earth a few years ago and deleted her channel but holy hell her content was up there. we tell stories very similarly like very similarly and she was dramatic as all hell. her scammers video was textbook same energy as anything i post on here. she was also doing her own thing, had relatively few friends and was god tier levels of unbothered. max fuck it why not energy.
-micarah tewers
Tumblr media
the youtuber who claims to make sewing tutorials but makes anything but. crafty, believes she can do anything with some fabric, a sewing machine and a hot glue gun (same). she does stuff to do it and has the biggest How Hard Could It Be gene that i’ve ever seen. also she tells stories in the same roundabout way that i do. distracted easily but does the stuff in the end
-the sturniolo triplets
Tumblr media
those tiktok/youtube triplets that make the car videos. cursed sibling energy to the max, tangents left and right and vague threats but they love eachother at the end of the day. they also like calling out their fans and lurk on their own fan accounts which is the same vibes as katya and i calling you all out occasionally and reading through our notes and stuff. as with everyone else i’ve mentioned they have an unhinged way of telling stories. katya and i also have unhinged sibling energy but me and my own sister have it more

WICKED LITTLE LETTERS (2023)

Screenplay by Jonny Sweet.
Directed by Thea Sharrock.
Distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. 100 minutes. Rated R.
There can be something wonderfully freeing about the use of profanity, particularly for someone who is caught in a repressive lifestyle. However, there is a cost in completely letting loose as well.
That is the moral behind this slight-but-amusing “based on a true story” British period piece.
Perhaps the most shocking part of Wicked Little Letters is that it was ever shocking. Of course, the world of small-town England about a hundred years ago is long gone. It’s interesting to look at what happened through a post-Twitter lens. Which is probably why this story of a serial poison pen letter writer in the quaint little village Littlehampton, England is portrayed somewhat comically, almost as a bit of a farce, even though at the time it was highly scandalous.
Olivia Colman plays Edith Swan, a highly repressed and highly religious spinster living in a small house with her domineering father and her proper, subdued mother. Edith’s life is a dull affair – she goes to church, spends time with some of the local women in things like sewing circles and playing card games, and spends much of her time passive-aggressively looking down on other people.
Suddenly, she starts receiving the foulest anonymous letters in the mail. Eventually, the letter writer spreads out and starts to send correspondence to other villagers, but Edith remains the main target of the profanity-strewn screeds.
Immediately suspected is her next-door neighbor, Rose (Jesse Buckley), an Irish immigrant, a widowed mother and a woman of somewhat loose morals for the time. (She works at a bar and is living with a Black man. And she is known to have a very salty vocabulary.)
Little things stood out to make Rose’s involvement in these letters a bit suspicious. The writer was obviously not really fluent in profanity – although filled with curse words and sexual innuendo, the insults really made no sense and the curses were usually used incorrectly, almost like someone was doing a Mad Libs book in which each blank space read “insert curse word here.”
Also noticed, but mostly ignored, was the fact that the handwriting on the letters was obviously different than Rose’s.
Still, the police are determined to blame Rose, even though the head constable acknowledges that from early on they did suspect someone else. However, it would keep up appearances to blame Rose, so she is jailed and put on trial.
Her case is taken on by Gladys Moss, the first woman police officer in the town. (In fact, every time she tells people she was a gendarme, she has to specify “woman” police officer.) She is also not taken seriously by the men in her station, who just expect her to write tickets and get them coffee.
Gladys and some of the women of the town feel that someone else is sending the letters, and they get together covertly to prove it.
Of course, the audience is clued in to the identity of the letter writer relatively early in the movie. (As a viewer, if you haven’t figured out who wrote the letters from the very beginning of the film, you’re not really trying.)
The rest of the film is an odd, but mostly funny, mixture of Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Law & Order: Victorian Unit.
Wicked Little Letters won’t win any awards or change anyone’s life, but it’s an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Hello All!
So...I've been on a bit of a hiatus once again! I have been super busy in my personal life as always. I am hoping to get some play time soon, I've been really itching to open my game especially while my manuscript is still with my betas for a few more weeks. Anyway, I have some plans!
For my Sims game, I have been really wanting to make another world, or maybe more...I don't know, I'm too indecisive. I have been toying with the idea of making a roadless village type island, possibly resurrecting my old Pickerling Cove world I started ages ago and did not complete, and a new idea that ties into my real life a little bit. I started a world years ago and it corrupted so it was never completed, however, I found some of the old builds for that world from before the corruption that I have tested in game. I'm thinking of remaking the original concept and using those old builds where I can. Some of them unfortunately will be quite impossible to use because of the terrain, however, I am wanting to incorporate interiors that I am planning to make in 1/6 scale for my little one's doll town. Yes, I have an entire hidden doll city planned in our playroom...and I've been watching too much Youtube in my free time lol! Anyway, I'm thinking that building the various cafe's, apartments ect in Sim World will help me make design choices for the compartments I have planned in the window seat, coffee table and bookshelf in our playroom.
I have also started sewing some clothes for my kiddo's dolls because we have mostly rags left over from my childhood, modern Barbie clothes are simply not the same as they were when I was a kid and let's just say it's a good thing the majority of my kiddo's Ken dolls have molded on underwear! That being said, I would love to share pictures with you all, but I don't want to clutter up Simblr's with non sims stuff so I am planning to open a second page for sharing my crafts! As long as Tubmlr still exists that is.
I know this is already long, but I wanted to at least share my last played day in Redwood Harbor (from months ago) below the cut as I haven't shared pictures in a LOOOONG time! Thanks for sticking around to read this and I hope everyone is doing well! Now on to the pics!
Tumblr media
I don't remember exactly what was going on, but I do know that Antonio is still working nights and Joanna is getting VERY pregnant so once I get back into game she may go into labor by the end of this rotation!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Woohoo! Jody has learned to walk! I'm going to be honest, the Sims toddlers wear me out so I have never really tried to get their skills accomplished until my Redwood Harbor save, lol! Quite proud of my little sims!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like it was off to the winter festival the next day! Antonio works nights and Joanna is on maternity leave already...aaand of course, they left Jody to fend for himself while they went ice skating!
Tumblr media
Left over salad it is for dinner...Joanna what are those shoes you're wearing with that outfit!!??
Tumblr media
OMG!! Really!!?? I'm pretty sure these two are going to break up again so I'm not sure how this is going to work out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time for bonuses! Better luck next year Joanna, maybe you won't be on maternity for most of the next year so you can progress in your career, fingers crossed the sims in this save seem to be very fertile.
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE playing this save?

Ch 39 - The Future of Westeros
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part 40
Fire OF A Stark
@dragonixfrye
Oh my gosh ya’ll ONE more chapters and then I will be completing this story ❤️ ❤️ 😭 😭 😭 ❤️
Tyrion and Jaime both declared together making me get a little embarrassed. I valued their opinions but it wasn’t theirs that scared me the most. “Lynesse Targaryen-Lannister for queen.”
“Will you wear the crown, Lynesse. If we were to choose you…or even if we choose someone else, would you stand by their side and sit on your rightful place on the Iron Throne?” Tyrion slowly walked up to me making his handcuffs squeak. His green eyes shifting from his brother and over our two children.
Blinking my eyes a couple of times I was at a complete loss for words. Even though I was a mother of two growing children and a loving husband. I wasn’t even thinking about being a queen or really a ruler of anything. I have been so consumed with running all my life where I was too focused on keeping my true identity a secret. "Guys I am honored to think that you want me to be the queen of the Seven kingdoms. But I…I don't think I am meant for such a thing."
"You have done a great job with attending to the Rock household. Lynesse, you are so confident on dragon 's back. You risk your life for your people and you don't live by the sane Fire and Blood." Jaime declared placing his hand on my cheek making me turn my head looking at him directly in those bright green orbs. "I told you I would follow you wherever you go, you are my queen now and always."
Sansa shifts in her seat with her hands resting in her lap smiling at me. "You've always been looking out for me and Arya even after you learned who you really were. Lynesse, you have a good heart and you never wanted to use Joanna to get an advance in a battle. You would be a good queen."
"Lynesse, I have seen that you are different from most ladies in our realm the night we met at Winterfell so long ago. And if I recall you once told me that Rhaenyra Targaryen, daughter of Viscerys declared to you in a dream that she believed you were meant for the throne.” Tyrion slowly walked forward much to Grey Worms grumbling that he should stop moving but no one else stops him. “I understand that you might not want it but you are one of the best people that I know in my life..I would bend the knee to you, Lynesse Targaryen.”
All the other lords and ladies turned their heads in my direction. I felt uneasy. Rocking little Eddard in my arms I distracted myself as best I could looking at him. He opened his eyes real big staring up at me. Sucking in a sharp breath I swore that I was staring at my father or at least understanding what he had told me years ago.
"A Lord or Lady makes the hard decisions to protect their people…even when they are afraid." My father Ned told me and Robb as he was showing us where his sister Lyanna and his brother Brandon were buried in the crypt underneath the castle.
Robb glanced back at his father, confused pulling his fur cloak around himself more. “What are you trying to say, father?”
“Is this like anyone can be killed even if they are the greatest fighter in the world?” I questioned him, crossing my arms over my chest. Even though it was frowned upon by my mother Catelyn I had managed to slip away so I could learn lessons from my father. I had learned more from him than I would learning to sew a needle and thread.
Our father turned to face both of us. He had his right hand resting on his sword that he named Ice. “You are right, Cadence. That anyone can be killed but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about that as the ruler of this house I wake every morning with fear and go to bed with fear in the night.”
“How can a man be brave if he is afraid?” Robb glanced between him and I.
He smiled simply, straightening his back shifting his gaze from each of us. “That is the only time a man or woman can be afraid my children. Now come we should go get ready for dinner.”
Robb headed up the stairs and he started to follow until I called his name, making our father pause in his steps. “Father, do you think someday when the world knows the truth about me…about my parents. Will they accept me or will I have to be afraid for the rest of my life?”
“Lynesse, my dragon. I have faith that one day you will find a group of people who will accept you.” He declares stepping forward kissing the crown of my head making me smile. “If you ever become queen you will do just fine so long as you follow the tips that I have taught you.”
“Lynesse, what do you say?” Jaime’s voice pulls me from my trance where I shake my head.
Brushing hair behind my ear he shifted Rhaenyra in her arm. “The realm won’t accept me as its queen…but I know someone they will, Bran.” Eyeing my brother in his wheelchair he just sent me a nod not saying a word.
“There's nothing in the world more powerful than a good story. Nothing can stop it. No enemy can defeat it. And who has a better story... than Bran the Broken? The boy who fell from a high tower and lived. He knew he'd never walk again, so he learned to fly. He crossed beyond the Wall, a crippled boy, and became the Three-Eyed Raven. He is our memory, the keeper of all our stories. The wars, weddings, births, massacres, famines. Our triumphs, mm, our defeats, our past. Who better to lead us into the future?” Tyrion caught onto my suggestion locking his eyes with the young living Stark child.
Sansa glanced between him then back at me and my husband. She absolutely loved that I had children even if they did share blood with the women who killed her father. “Bran has no interest in ruling and he can't father children.”
“Good.” Tyrion chuckled dryly at her glancing over his shoulder at Grey Worm. “Sons of kings can be cruel and stupid, as you well know. His will never torment us….That is the wheel our queen wanted to break.”
He faced our group of leaders once more slowly walking forward until he was so close to me and Bran. “From now on, rulers will not be born. They will be chosen on this spot by the lords and ladies of Westeros... to serve the realm. I know you don't want it. I know you don't care about power. But I ask you now, if we choose you...will you wear the crown? Will you lead the Seven Kingdoms to the best of your abilities from this day until your last day?”
“Why do you think I came all this way?” Bran replied simply.
Tyrion raised his head declaring a vote. “To Brandon of House Stark...I say aye.” Everyone around us declared yes in agreement.
“Lynesse, you shall rule by my side.” Bran turned in his chair so he could face me as best possible. “I know you have good judgment even if you don’t think you do. You have a good heart and a fighting spirit. And you are the last Taragaryn who never used her dragon except to stop the army of the dead.”
Blankly staring at him I still didn’t understand why they thought I would be a good queen. I mean yes did I have a dream about a dragon queen from 200 years before we ever existed. Yet it didn’t mean I would be a good leader. “Bran, I love you. And I appreciate that you all think I would make a good queen but why me, why?”
“Jaime, would you mind?” Bran gestured for him to push the wheelchair closer so my husband got up pushing the chair closer to me with his left hand. While he had his right arm secured on holding our daughter so he didn’t drop her. “I choose you to rule by my side as the realm’s queen because no one else was chosen to find this…The three eyed Raven predicted that you would one day become a queen and so today is now clearly that day. ” He drew out Rhaenyra’s crown hanging on the back of my chair.
Jaime rose to his feet, handing our daughter over to his brother for a moment so he could take the crown from my cousin’s hands. He drifted his gaze down to me, waiting for him to declare. “All hail Bran the Broken, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Six Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.”
Everyone in our circle of leaders responded back. “All hail Bran the Broken!”
“All hail Lynesse the Last Targaryen, First of her name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Lady of Casterly Rock, Stark raised true, Lady of the Six Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.” Tyrion made up his own declaration for me nodding to his older brother smiling proudly.
Everyone once more responded. “All hail Lynesse the Last Targaryen!”
“Lynesse-Cadence Targaryen-Stark-Lannister you shall forever be my Queen from this day until your last day.” Jaime Lannister, the man that I never thought I would fall in love with through an arranged marriage grinned. He gently sat the golden crown on my head slowly dropping onto a knee as he did so never breaking eye contact with me.
Bran titled his head to the side watching as Tyrion handed my daughter over to Sansa. Grey Worm stepped forward to lead him away. “Lord Tyrion... you will be my Hand.”
“N-- No, Your Grace, I don't want it.” He stuttered, glancing in my direction. “I couldn’t possibly, my queen.”
Bran said back. “And I don't want to be king.”
“Nor I queen, especially not without you to guide us.” I added on when Jaime rises to his feet coming to stand behind me resting his real hand on my shoulder.
He shakes his head trying to still turn down the job. “I don't deserve it. I thought I was wise, but I wasn't. I thought I knew what was right, but I didn't. Choose Ser Davos. Choose anyone else.”
“I choose you.” Bran sniped.
Jaime smirked, pointing his index finger at his little brother smiling proudly. “She won’t take the job without you, little brother. You have to accept this.”
Grey Worm cut in. “You cannot.”
“Yes, I can. I'm king.” Bran pointed out sternly but still in a kind tone.
He didn’t agree. “This man is a criminal. He deserves justice.”
“Grey Worn, I don’t think I need to remind you of her presence…” I trailed off lifting my head up where everyone lifted their heads seeing that Joanna was watching from one of the high cliffs above our heads. “I aim to change what my blood relatives have done. But you will learn your place and accept that he will meet the punishment we set for him.”
“He just got it. He's made many terrible mistakes. He's going to spend the rest of his life fixing them.” Bran added on placing his hand over mine making Eddard clap his hands together. We were the future of Westeros and he would have to accept that things would be changing in the years to come.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

There's historical romance with he bent her over the desk and ducks her from behind?
There are lots! Generally what I've found is, you'll get the good stuff if you venture outside Julia Quinn's body of work because her heroes tend to have an ingrained madonna-whore complex that prevents them from doing any bending-over to the *ladies*. Also just to note, this is strictly "bending over desk" moments, which does not include any other kind of desk sex or any furniture that is not a desk (...for the most part).
The Duke Who Knew Too Much by Grace Callaway: Alaric's solution to Emma dictating far too many terms of their engagement in his opinion is to bend her over, toss her skirts up, and finger her while(?) she gives him a handjob. Winners.
Always Be My Duchess by Amalie Howard: This one is actually so hot because of how desperate they were; Montcroix is so taken with Neve's ballet performance that he drags her backstage in a public theater and bends her over a random desk before going for it.
The Truth About Cads and Dukes by Elisa Braden: Harrison and Jane do have sex earlier in the book with her on a desk, but later on, there's a very emotional "make-or-break-our-marriage" sex scene with her bent over a desk and going like "you're going to say I love you by the time this is over" and he's like "noooo" but by the time he's climaxing he's practically chanting it.
Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare: A classic; he bends her over and tries to make recite all his courtesy titles (marquess of this, earl of that, etc.) in order while fucking her but she fails so he does it and he ends it with "and your SLAVE" which was the hottest part imo
The Rogue of Fifth Avenue by Joanna Shupe: Mamie waltzes into Frank's office and taunts him until he cracks, bends her over, and goes to town. This is basically in line with their overall dynamic.
The Design of Dukes by Kathleen Ayers: Okay so he bent her over a sewing table but to be fair, it is where she works so it's kind of her desk(?). But I'm including it because it's so so hot as this man's sternness on full display and he very calmly tells her he's going to fix himself and their engagement while railing her from behind. AND it doubles as a mirror scene.
If you count "table in library" as a desk, then The Education of Ivy Leavold by Sierra Simone fits the bill.

( lannister e / anya chalotra / cis woman and she/her ) hear ye hear ye — the riverlands welcomes lady cerenna lannister of casterly rock. king matthos baratheon is glad that the twenty - six year old appears to be captivating and he shall overlook that it’s said they are also censorious, as long as they are glad to celebrate peace in the seven kingdoms. fortunately for them, matthos remains oblivious that they are happy with his reign.

previous relations: none atm, let's plot to change that !
v. biography.
( tw : pregnancy and death ) much about cerenna before she was adopted by house lannister is essentially unknown. if either of the lady lannisters had known her past, they would know that cerenna was born to a bed slave from lys who wanted anything but to become pregnant. a smart woman, she was able to find passage out of the city through a trading ship bound for westeros. with her beauty and what she had learned of westerosi lords, she had full intentions of tricking a lord into thinking her child was their bastard - but things didn’t work out that way. cerenna’s birth mother had made it to lannisport and by the time she was to full term, none of her plans had come to fruition. she ended up giving birth there but did not survive the complications of childbirth.
her last wish was to have someone care for cerenna, named by the lannister ladies who would ultimately become her mothers. she may not look like a stereotypical lannister, adorning black hair and purple eyes, but she certainly picked up the lannister house’s ambition and pride. the only thing she knows of her past is that she has never been a day without love.
growing up in a house where family was cherished and adored, cerenna was able to thrive in certain aspects of her life. whatever she wanted, she was given, as most of what she asked for consisted of stunning jewelry or the latest southern fashion. learning was never her forte, often poking her fingers during sewing lessons or fidgeting whenever she was required to sit still, but she was always listening in on her mothers’ conversations or eavesdropping on advisors complaining about the latest issue.
she has no true interest in politics, but her most identifying trait as a lannister is cerenna’s ambition. it may not be the goal of becoming queen, though she would not turn down the idea, but seeing power within her future household and what opportunities will come her way. she has learned from the best and prioritized not only family, but always being the one in control of a situation.
while she values being in control, cerenna hates the idea of expected responsibilities. she was spoiled incredibly by her mothers and while theoretically she could do anything she put effort into, she would rather not. she adores being wealthy and having people do things for her, like the thought of ever losing her station or decreasing in status would absolutely be the breaking point. she is incredibly judgemental when it comes to those who differ from her and could never imagine wanting to be with someone so much she would give up everything. she likes to pretend like she would do that, like she is “better” than people think of her, but she is always secretly thinking selfishly for herself or her house.
vi. wanted plots.
future betrothal - at this point in time, cerenna does not see herself having the same future as her mothers and sees herself ultimately prioritizing being cared for more than being loved, meaning she wants to marry rich and ultimately not ever have to do anything too difficult <3 i don't think she sees herself as having a maternal instinct, but if love did sprout, i could see that becoming something she wants ! even despite her fears, she has always desired a family like the one she grew up with. could be spicy if their betrothal ended eventually bc cerenna needed to marry someone of higher status but they were already kinda into each other ... who knows !
trusted companions - people who get to hear cerenna's unfiltered thoughts and are genuinely people to trust. these are companions she values and would never betray them, which means they're either people she grew up with or know incredibly well... probably from the westerlands or lannister allies ?
the one she can't have - someone she fell head over heels for when they first met but they're either promised to another or married. they would share her affections and have probably been together physically at some point, but to be with her would mean giving up too much. the girl who gets everything she wants but can't / wouldn't have them ! could even be someone from a house she doesn't like and wouldn't want to publicly be with so they're in agreement they can't be together ? regardless, they are angsty pining for each other but nothing will ever come from it !
past flings, current friends/enemies with benefits, enemies, someone who got their heart broken by cerenna, people who actually like her - i am open for anything ! just pls come give plots ty ty

Thread about Joanna of Castile: Part 1: Her Education
… any woman born with a great gift in the sixteenth century would certainly have gone crazed, shot herself, or ended her days in some lonely cottage outside the village, half witch, half wizard, feared and mocked at. —Virginia Wolf, A Room of One's Own
Diverse thoughts flood one's mind upon hearing the name Juana of Castile, or as some may recognize her: Juana la Loca. Countless historians have debated her story. Was she truly insane? Did she battle with a mental disorder? Or was she tragically victimized by the very men she held dear? In my forthcoming posts, I delve into Juana's life, drawing from historical sources. I will write about Joanna's life based on historical sources in my upcoming posts. Enjoy the readings, everyone.

Juana was born in Toledo on November 6, 1479. She grew into a lively, pretty, and graceful little girl who was to develop into a beautiful woman. Juana had a regal and dignified presence, befitting her royal lineage as a member of the powerful Spanish Habsburg dynasty. She was, the Venetian ambassador would write, “very handsome”. According to other authors, she had auburn hair and a fair complexion. Her nose was long and straight, her blue eyes were large, deep, and soulful, her mouth was an almost perfect cupid's bow, her lips were full, her fingers slim and delicate.
Other sources wrote that she was known for her fair complexion, typical of the European nobility during that era. Her face was oval-shaped, with a high forehead, delicately arched eyebrows, and a well-defined jawline. Juana had large, expressive eyes that were often described as melancholic or sorrowful. They were of a deep colour, commonly portrayed as dark brown or hazel. Her eyes were said to possess a certain intensity, reflecting her emotional state and the turmoil she faced throughout her life.
In terms of attire, Juana would have dressed according to the fashion of her time and status as a queen. She wore elegant gowns made from luxurious fabrics, often adorned with intricate embroidery, jewels, and furs. The style of her clothing would have followed the trends of the Spanish court during the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

When Juana was seven, her parents appointed Andres de Miranda as her first tutor. It was his task to teach her Latin, a language in which she became proficient, and Catholic doctrine—essential skills that Deza also taught to Juan, her brother. She was taught to ride, she was taught music and dancing, she learned how to behave in public. And, just like her mother, Juana learned housewifely tasks like baking, spinning, weaving, and sewing.

Ever mindful of her experiences, the queen was determined to give her girls the best start available, and by the standards of her time, she did. Her daughters were not the only educated noble women among the European aristocracy, but they were certainly better educated than most women of their era. There was one omission, though: the study of foreign languages, surely useful for girls destined to marry foreign princes, was largely neglected.

hi bitches
it's been A While but the time has come to be online again. (well, a little bit online.) I'm planning to use tumblr more as a personal blog than a place to waste the hours away this time around, posting writing that doesn't make it to ao3, photos of my sewing projects, and general life meanderings.
specific content to expect
the locked tomb fanfiction
fun facts and notes about my locked tomb fanfictions
(mostly) historical sewing, both my own projects and ~dreams~
pre-raphaelite art & poetry
scary fish, spiders, weird animals in general (to be meticulously tagged)
pictures of my dog
joanna newsom lyrics
bread I am baking
probably a 3000 word essay on 1970s lesbian vampire films at some point
swords
plus whatever the next thing is that I inexplicably latch onto. now, without further ado:
