I know these are niche Voyager thoughts but... how did the families of the crewmembers who died feel when Voyager got home? Did Frank Darwin's family react with anger and horror when they learned he lived for 3 years into the journey, only to be brutally murdered by a fellow crewmate for no reason? Did Ahni Jetal's family intially come to terms with the fact they'd never see her again, grieve, and move on, then get a flicker of hope when they learn Voyager survived, only to have those hopes dashed again when they see the casualty list? And what about Joe Carey, who lived until after Project Pathfinder was established. Who probably sent his family letters. And then who died right before Voyager came home. Can you imagine the emotional whiplash that must have been?

Joe Carey's whole deal is so hilarious. Sometime in season 3 or 4 the writers thought they killed off Carey and this is why they only have him appear in flashbacks. And then in season 7, the writers realized oh, he's not dead!
And literally months before Voyager returns home, the writers kill him. LMAO. Poor dude, he's always been marked for death, the writers just didn't realize they actually killed and rectified it in season 7.
Anyway, in the autobiography of Janeway, Janeway said she was angry at Starfleet for ordering them into a mission that got a crew member killed. They're part of Starfleet and are happy to serve in Starfleet but Janeway wanted to impress on them how much they don't have back-up in the Delta Quadrant. So she's not going to do any missions for Starfleet.
So the urge to do the whole: Because the Council is Stupid, I'm Gonna Ignore the Council thing happens earlier than in Star Trek PIcard: Firewall.
This was why they had Janeway riding a desk for 2 years after, so Starfleet was sure Janeway could still follow orders. This is the same thing they pulled with Seven of Nine in Picard season 3-- she was permitted to go under Shaw's command, knowing he was a Wolf 395 survivor. Shaw was Seven's Shakedown cruise.
Just as riding a desk for 2 years was Janeway's shakedown cruise before she got/commandeered the Dauntless.
Anyway, this scene at the end of Friendship One was really affecting.

This is one of the few times we, the audience, are privy to Janeway's grief losing a crewmember.

If any of you are looking for a good Carey- and/or Ayala-centric fic my recommendation is "the hierarchy of command" on Ao3. A good chunk of the crew including the senior staff gets kidnapped so Ayala and Carey have to get him back.
Sadly nowadays it's only available if you have an account but it is So Good.

I mean, just look at this. It's great.

Well, I've got a new book out (https://books2read.com/u/mKVMEE ) so it's time to make another ramble post about the book's imagined cast, because I'm crazy, and because I can.
First, the vampires. The trio of royal terror: King Isaak (Jason Isaacs), his son Prince Oskar (Owen Teague) and Prince Wolfsbane (Wolfgang Novogratz).
Next, the girls. Emily Carey for Adeline, a brunette Florence Pugh for Shanda, and Letitia Wright as Melia. Melia's actually my fav. She brings some much-needed levity to an otherwise dark series.
Aaaand then there's Joslun, who existed in my head as Joe Taslim. I gave myself a massive crush on both Joslun and Joe when I was writing this series. I loved Joslun. My beta reader DIDN'T like Joslun. My sister hated Prince Oskar, while I was always a bit bored by Wolfsbane. I guess there's always going to be that one character you just don't like.
And that's it. There's my fancast that literally no one wanted to hear about! 😂 Until next time!
