In Lost (s1e12) Fi uses a program called Townbuilder to map Kamilah's path home. Above the right icons is *.* software inc.

Strange Geometry isn't until season 2, but according to its script Molly's "She Sells" music video featured Star Dot Star products.

Universal Gateway is a web browser. Most times the name is visible at the bottom of Fi's screen with *.* software inc. (barely visible) on the bottom left side depending on how the scene is shot.

Jon Weisman's detail of "Universal Gateway II" implies an upgraded version of, you know, an original Universal Gateway.

Who knows? Maybe that was part of the new software Tad gave Fi a voucher for in Simplicity (s1e6). Townbuilder/TownBuilder could have also been included in that.

Molly and John's dialogue remained in the final version of Strange Geometry, but the closest we get to Molly having make-up done is when she leaves a room to walk to set.

Despite no Star Dot Star products in sight, Molly dressed like a Zenon character could be a nod to it.

Tad's products not only help Fi connect with others (Universal Gateway, In Box) and research (Star Dot Seek), his Townbuilder game becomes a tool to help the Simmonds family.

It's a neat way to keep Tad relevant in So Weird episodes and set up his role for (the planned and cut) season 3 when Fi would have needed him to help her save the universe.

(Theory on the Distortion)

So in 146, after the statement of Marcus MacKenzie (son of Paul Mackenzie from ep 27), Jon talks to Helen about not being able to reach Marcus for his statement follow-up. Helen responds by saying she ate him a few months prior. She also talked about how she did not have the same attachment to MacKenzie and had a different feeding style than Michael. This makes sense, as the Distortion in its different forms (Micheal and Helen) would naturally have different personalities and styles of feeding. However, what if there was more to this...

Basically, my theory is Helen's style of feeding is so different from Michael's because she learned from Michael. The reason why Helen Richardson because the Distortion was because Micheal liked to "play with his food." We saw this when it pursued the MacKenzies and when he trapped Helen Richardson. He milked as much fear out of his "food" as possible, which took a while, while Helen took much less time and striked quickly. Another example would be during S5, when she tried to eat Celia while she was "visiting" Melonie and Georgie.

Anyway, I'm probably overthinking this, but I thought it was really interesting how different both Distortions were!

Replying to Replies (part 3)

Regarding the news that Disney will be deleting content from its streaming library:

My pessimistic approach is a defense mechanism and I hope I’m wrong! 

So Weird still has no soundtrack, physical copies, and rarely gets acknowledged, so its inclusion on D+ was a miracle. There’s always the possibility it will be safe from the initial wave of deletions (though maybe removed sometime later like HBO recently did with Dexter’s Laboratory?). 🤔

Under the related Kate-Karen meme:  

One glimmer of hope is that Disney owns Hulu, ESPN, ABC, Freeform, FX, National Geographic, A&E, 20th Century, Fox Sports, some international properties, and quite a few others. Programming from those entities will likely be removed as well. I don’t think the budget cuts have to be Disney-exclusive, just Disney-owned.

To use the Dexter example again, Cartoon Network is owned by Warner Bros. and streamed on HBO Max. On the other hand So Weird was created under the Disney name, in its studios, and streams on its app.

Following an ask about Rebecca and Kamilah:

In a way Rebecca had to be Molly’s friend first so she could meet Fi. Without her connection to Molly and following PKB’s career, it might have been harder to show how she hadn’t aged and that had to be set up for the original s3 when Fi would need her help.

The closest we get to another mention of her is in Avatar.

Jordan calls her “That girl you keep looking for,” but Molly is so put off by Jordan’s behavior she doesn’t react too much. (Though it certainly gets Jack’s attention.)

I would have loved that for Kamilah! Aunt Effy could have sent a postcard for the bus bulletin board or Molly could have had a phone call at the start of a scene in s2. “That was Mrs. Simmonds. She said Kamilah’s going to be discharged on Tuesday.” But alas.

TMA Season 4!

What a CRIMINAL way to end the season, holy SHIT!

Now I understand why I’ve seen so many artists do scar maps of Jon, it really did all come together in the end. And the way Elias, or Jonah, really, orchestrated it all with the cherry on top of giving Jon a false statement that he couldn’t stop himself from reading; truly the master plan. The words for the Watcher’s Crown ritual itself were very cool, just the right amount of nonsensical almost-rhyming to make it flow nicely.

And the fact that three of the most iconic TMA quotes/moments happen so close together near/at the end of season four is WILD; I was not expecting all of that! First we got “Where are his eyes?” “Where they’ve always been, Martin. Watching over my institute.” THEN “Look at me Martin, what do you see?” “I see… I see you, Jon. I see you!” and to wrap it all up “Jon…?” “Look at the sky, Martin! It’s looking back!” *maniacal, distorted laughter.* Absolutely insane place to leave off. (Also the bonus of Jon using his named attack of “I see you!” on Peter Lukas).

I can’t forget Basira and Daisy, either. Their story is so good, I love me some tragic yuri. (Although for their sakes I hope it gets less tragic tbh; I want them to be happy 🥺). But I’m not that hopeful, considering we got ~2 minutes of Jon and Martin being content at the safe house before things really went to shit. At least Melanie got away, she’s been through so much. And I’m happy she got together with Georgie, that’s so sweet 🥹

The Extinction and the fact that new fears can emerge was an interesting plot thread for this season, both for how it fit with larger events and how it gave us a new kind of spook. I liked the hunger-world amusement park one the most, I kept thinking about it when I went to the fair myself the other day. I also noticed there were more episodes where it wasn’t 100% clear which fear entity was behind the statement, or even that there were multiple involved. Like with ‘A Gravedigger’s Envy’, it could be both The Buried and The End. It was fun to see how the fear entities could be mixed and matched, then of course to find out how that aspect, too, fits into the big-picture meta-plot. After having episodes with this type of spook, it makes more sense how no ritual can succeed if it tries to separate one fear entity from the others.

Season four tied up a lot of loose ends and got the official statements of big names that have been lurking around since season one, like Simon Fairchild, Annabelle Cane, Adelard Dekker, Peter Lukas, and of course Jonah Magnus himself. Personally, I’ve been wondering about the statement of Mr. Paul MacKenzie and which fear entity was responsible for his demise since season one, so I’m glad we got the statement of his son so far down the line to say ‘Spiral’ for certain.

I can’t believe I’m already about to start season five, this has gone too quick!!
