It's not lost on him that the only thing he has planned for the day is a job interview at the Magnus Institute. Elias has dreaded this moment for years. What need does he have for a soulmate? What can he even say to them? They can't possibly guess what sort of monster fate has tied them to.

Day 3 of JonElias Week

Jon is just trying to do his job, but when a man comes in with a job offer, who is he to refuse

Jacket slung over one shoulder,  Elias stepped out of the Institute and headed to a cafe nearby that he was fond of.  The prices tended to lie a little too expensive for his employees,  all the better to not have them bother him outside of work. 

The weather outside was suffocating,  sun bearing down on him,  and as amusing as it was to watch his employees suffer with no AC, that did unfortunately mean his own office was similarly unpleasant. Which was why he was getting his own coffee rather than have Rosie go get it for him.

He didn't really pay attention to the new barista, too busy spying on the couple going through a rather nasty break up. It wasn't until he was handed his coffee and stood face to face with the man that Elias started to pay attention. Tired eyes that were yet filled with curiosity looked at him and a touch of the web clung to his shoulders. 

He thought of his Archivist, lying dead in the tunnels, and the strong-willed woman he was planning to promote in her place. Curious but shrewd like Gertrude, not easy to manipulate. 

No wonder the old woman liked her. But Miss James was also his only option.

Unless.

Well it didn’t have to be.

A business card passed over with the notes for his coffee. 

A curious look in those handsome green eyes, and Elias gave the man a quick shrug.

“If you ever want to do something more with your talents Jonathan.”

It didn’t even take until the end of the working day for his phone to ring and the nervous voice of the Barista to ask who exactly he was talking to, the soft background noise of the cafe still audible. Compared to the rigorous and apparently (according to the gossip he overheard the breakroom) nightmare-inducing interview most of his employees received, Elias kept his questions short and pleasant. 

“And what position do you intend for me to fill Mr Bouchard?” It came tentatively as their interview slowly drew to a close.

“Well I have luckily had a position open up in the Archives that I am sure you will be an excellent fit for. Would you be able to come in on Monday? and please, do call me Elias.”
