wc: 1.3k

etc: i’ve no previous experience writing something like this, so bear with me! whilst writing this, i pulled some inspo from olivia rodrigo’s ‘logical’, she’s one of my favorite artists outside of kpop. with that being said, please read this with that in mind if your sensitive to topics similar to that. i’m so beyond grateful that someone requested from me, i love to see it, keep it coming <3 and of course, not thoroughly proofread!
The evening air is cold against your damp cheeks, but you barely notice. Your breath shuddering as you curl into yourself, tucked away in the hollowed-out plastic of the jungle gym, the faded colors were dimly lit under the streetlights. The park was quiet, understandably so at the hour, and empty except for the occasional rustling of leaves in the breeze. It feels like the world is holding its breath, waiting for you to pull yourself together, but you just can’t.
Your hands are shaking as you grip harder onto your phone, the glow of the screen blurring through your tear-filled eyes. You don’t type anything. No words feel right, and you’re not sure you could even form a coherent sentence if you tried. Instead, you send your location. No explanation. Just that.
And then you wait.
You feel the breeze pick up lightly, and you shiver as you continue to let the tears fall freely.
At this point, you’re not sure how long it’s been when you hear hurried footsteps crunching over the gravel. You don’t lift your head, but you know it’s him. Jongho. The one person who would come running without question.
“Y/N?”
His voice is soft, careful, like he already knows you’re fragile. There’s a pause, then the sound of him climbing up into the structure, his presence filling the already small space. You feel the warmth of his body next to you before he even touches you.
He crouches down in front of you, his breath slightly uneven and out of pace from rushing here. And when you finally lift your head, his face is a mixture of concern and silent patience, his eyes scanning over you—not just your face but the way that you’re holding yourself, cradling yourself, the way that you’re shaking.
“Hey,” he says gently. “I’m here.”
The moment he says it, something deep inside you rips wide open and completely. You let out a broken sob, covering your face with your hands, and without hesitation, Jongho shifts closer, pulling you into him. His arms wrap around you, solid and steady, and anchors you as your body involuntarily shakes against him.
He doesn’t say anything right away, just holds you, letting you cry into the nape of his neck. His hand moves in slow soothing circles against your back. You felt everything, the way his nails curved in every so often, and how his hand occasionally switched rotations, the leather of jacket against the bare skin of your arm.
And so, you clutch onto him like he’s the only thing keeping you from falling apart completely. Minutes pass, maybe longer. Your sobs start to subside, but you don’t pull away. Jongho doesn’t move either, just keeps holding you steady.
“What happened?” His voice is barely above a whisper, careful not to push, only offering you the space to speak if you want to.
You inhale shakily getting ready to speak, but the words don’t come. They’re caught somewhere between your mind and you throat, tangled up in the fear that if you say them, it will make everything real. That if you admit it out loud, there’s no taking it back. And worse—what if he sees you differently? What if he thinks you’re too much, just like he did? Your silence stretches between you, heavy and unbroken. Jongho doesn’t push. Instead, he just stays close, his hand gently smoothing over your back, as if he’s reminding you that he’s not going anywhere.
Eventually, you shift slightly, your arms moving just enough for the dim light to catch on the bruises beginning to bloom along your wrist, just enough for Jongho to catch in his eyes.
His hold on you doesn’t change—he doesn’t flinch or jerk away—but you feel his breath hitch, hand tightening his grip on his knee, his whole body tensing just for a second before he exhales slowly. When he speaks, his voice is somehow softer than before, but there’s something edged beneath it, something heavy. “Y/N… who did this?”
You don’t answer right away, just staring in disbelief at the darkened skin, an ugly reminder of hands that should have never touched you like that. It’s the first time you’ve really looked at it. You felt it at first, but never saw the sum of his actions earlier that night. It’s too much. You squeeze your eyes shut, another quiet sob slipping out before you can stop it.
Jongho doesn’t hesitate. In one swift motion, he shrugs off his leather jacket and drapes it over your shoulder, his warmth still lingering in the fabric. “Here,” he murmurs, adjusting it so it fully covers you. His fingers linger near your skin for a moment longer, hesitating just for a moment before gently brushing over the bruised skin, his touch feathering. Pulling you back into him again.
His jaw tightens, but his voice still remains gentle. “You don’t have to say anything if you’re not ready,” he murmurs. “Just let me stay with you. Okay?”
You nod into him, the movement barely there, but he feels it. He feels the tears soak through his top and onto his skin.
You don’t know how long you sit there, curled against him, your breathing uneven but slowly steadying. Eventually, words start forming on your tongue, hesitant but needing to be said.
“I left,” you whisper, voice hoarse from your cries. “I finally left.”
Jongho exhales slowly, like he’s been holding his breath this whole time. His hand comes up, fingers threading carefully through your hair before eventually coming to a halt at the base of your head, cradling it. “I’m so proud of you, I know it’s hard.”
Your chest tightens, drawing discomfort. You don’t feel proud, not at all. You feel small, broken, like you should have left sooner, like you should’ve never let it get this far. All your past decisions seem so illogical, you thought all your problems were solvable, because you thought he meant it when he said he’d change.
“I should’ve—”
“No.” Jongho’s voice is firmer now, but still gentle. His hand shifts from your head to your hand. Interlocking your fingers together, his thumb rubbing lazy motions on the back of your hand. “Don’t do that to yourself. You did what you could, and you’re here now. That’s what matters.”
A fresh wave of tears builds in your eyes, threatening to spill over again, but this time, it’s different. It’s not just grief or exhaustion—it’s something closer to relief. Relief that someone has you, and you’re safe.
You don’t say anything else for a while. Neither does he. He just stays with you, holding you like he has all the time in the world, like he’s promising to stay as long as you need him to. And right now, it’s exactly what you need.
The park is still silent with the silent hum of cars passing on a nearby street and the whistle in the wind. The night air is cold, but Jongho’s warmth lingers against you, in his jacket, in his hand wrapped around yours. Neither of you rush to leave, instead sitting in the silence, letting the moment be what it is.
Eventually, you shift against him, trying to pull yourself up, but he beats you to it. He doesn’t let go of your hand as he helps you to your feet. You’re not sure what to do, but you need to go somewhere.
“Come on,” he says gently to you, squeezing your hand just a little. “Let’s go home.” You’re not quite sure where home even is right now, but you know you’ll be able to figure that out as you go with him.

---------------------------------------------------
"I just saw an insect fly inside your mouth."
You yelped and pursed your lips, turning around in your seat to glare at the boy who spoke behind you, a teasing grin on his face as he proceeded to sit beside you.
"Hello to you too, Beomgyu." you rolled your eyes and continued eating your lunch while your friend laughed at your lack of usual defensiveness whenever he points out your dumb countenance.
He went and picked one of the fries on your plate, your protests falling on deaf ears, "You should give me your food and eat his bulky ass instead." he says, subtly pointing at the man that you were previously gawking at.
Another comment from him that made your blood pressure spike.
"Don't you ever shut up?" you slapped his hand away from your tray, "And no, I will not do that, you dipshit."
Beomgyu raised his hands in defeat, feigned concern gracing his annoyingly charming face, "I was tryna help you."
"What do you want?" you groaned, looking at him and inquiring what his deal is, and like a lightbulb turned on in his head, he finally blurted out a news that you'll surely dread.
"I wanna inform you that we have swimming lessons for PE today." he suggestively wiggled his eyebrows at you, hinting at something which you immediately understood.
This is seriously not happening right now.
Your eyes naturally trailed over to the guy that you're currently interested in, chatting away with the science teacher (Lee Chan) on their table, which conveniently is your physical education teacher.
The previous one was a girl, but she had to take a leave from teaching for a while due to her pregnancy. Then your school just had to hire a hot dude for a substitute.
Choi fucking Jongho.
You weren't interested at first, but he sure as hell caught your attention when one day, he walked in on the gym wearing the tightest short that you had seen a man wear.
His thigh muscles are bulging, threatening to rip the flimsy fabric and you have to mentally kick yourself for staring.
That was the first one.
Strike two happened when a boring discussion about hand grip turned into him breaking an apple in half, a thought running in your mind that made you realize that you're doomed.
"I wish I was that apple."
You want to be that piece of juicy, red fruit just to be what? To be broken in half by his large hands?
Well damn, you're nuts for that one.
It should have been fine, you thinking of that way of your teacher. It's a small fantasy that you could live in for a while and get over it when the time comes.
It should be fine.. but your stupid self just had to say that out loud. Good thing that the whole class was roaring at your teacher's inhumane strength. Too bad, your seatmate slash best friend heard you clearly, and now, he has an item for blackmail against you.
"Whatever," you mumbled, munching on your sandwich, "it's not like we'll be standing close to each other during the whole period."
Beomgyu smiled once more, seeing right through your nonchalant attitude, "You'll never know what will happen."
Yes, you don't know what will happen unless fate or some fucking fairy guided you into some shit. But this-
This! So damn horrendous.
You see, whenever you wish for luck to come to you, it never does, and that's fine! But.. why the fuck do you have to be so unfortunate?
Like, truly miserable as your puppy eyes went down the drain when your sucker of a bestfriend gave you a thumbs up and mouthed the most inappropriate sentence you had ever encountered (you're just dramatic.)
'Go get the apple of your dreams!'
Oh, he's so dead later for putting you into this position. Later because right now, you're currently rummaging through your brain on how to survive the next (possibly the best) events of your life.
"I'm sorry for dragging you here, Ms. L/N." Jongho's voice brought you out of your inner dilemma, making you realize that you're still here, rooted on earth and standing in front of your whole class for the damned swimming classes.
You ain't a good swimmer, but to hell with Beomgyu because the guy pushed you as the offering for the person who wants to try and act as the lead model for the swimming classes.
"No problem, sir." you gave him a tight lipped smile, inhaling through your nose and trying to keep your crazy heart rate steady.
"Thank you." he smiled back, putting his attention back to the class and resuming his discussion about the proper way to dive.
"So here, put your arms in position-"
The instructor began discussing, but you couldn't focus for gods sake.
He's touching your shoulders. His hands are on your back and oh! His fingers guiding your head to tuck your chin. This is absolute heaven and hell at the same time.
Your muscles are all tense from his magnetizing touch, enjoying all of the sensations you're feeling and you are so close to fluttering your eyelids and just let your body drown in sins when suddenly, and annoyingly, you were brought back once more into reality by Jongho.
"Please do the dive for us, Ms. L/N." he gently pushed you, giving you an encouraging smile to which you could only subtly grimace at.
Here goes nothing.
You closed your eyes, held your breath and prayed, wishing for you to look like a mermaid when you enter the water. (Spoiler alert, you looked like a dying fish according to Beomgyu.)
You did your best, as you liked to think, and you really did feel like on top of the earth when Jongho himself went over to you after classes and draped a towel all over you, giving your shoulders a warm squeeze as he complimented you for your performance today.
"Great job out there, make sure to dry yourself completely so you won't get sick, yeah?" then he smiled, walking away from you before he saw your blushing face while stammering out a proper response.
He touched you. Again. Heck, he even commended you.
And he smiled at you. Again. That's like, three times now? Yeah? Right.
Oh man, looks like you're gonna go home with some delulu thoughts.. and with a wet something down there.
---------------------------------------------------
"You like that baby?" his deep voice resonated in your ears, his chest vibrating against your back as he pounded into your behind like you are nothing but his fuck toy.
You moaned at the feeling of his girth inside you, not satisfied with your lack of response, he went and pulled your hair, earning himself a delightful yelp from you.
"I asked you a question, doll."
"Y-yes, sir." you uttered a response, scalp stinging from his hair pulling but the sensation still managed to add to the pleasure.
"That's my good doll." he smirked, his thrusts getting erratic each second. "Since you're so good, I'll let you take all my cum inside, yeah?"
"Oh god-" you moaned out loud, loving the way he talks dirty to you, "Yes, please.. I-I want it all." you begged, tears already pooling at the corner of your eyes.
"Fuck-! I'm coming!"
"Jong-"
Three knocks and a yelling Beomgyu was all it took for your dream to be taken away. Right at the fucking climax.
"C'mon Y/N! Open up, stop sleeping all the time!"
"Ugh!" you groaned, jolting up with anger and shouting right back at the boy in front of your bedroom door.
"Why the fuck are you here?!"
Beomgyu snickers and invites himself into your sanctuary as soon as you opened your door, sitting on your spotless pink carpet and bringing some snacks and a suspicious piece of paper.
You raised an eyebrow, still slightly irritated that your wet dream was disrupted but curious at what storm your friend is brewing.
"Look." he says, showing you a poster along with tickets, "A guy named Yeonjun gave me this!"
"What the fuck is that and who the hell is Yeonjun?"
"A nice senior that I met in the frat!" he happily answered your questions despite the rude tone that you used. "Let's go and check this bar, I heard that they serve a lot of good shit."
"No thanks." you sassily replied, walking over your bed and sitting down on the soft sheets.
He rolled his eyes at your snappy attitude, plopping down on your bed as well, "Don't be such a killjoy!" he whined, "Besides, don't you want to find a hot guy and get laid? I know you haven't gotten a good fuck for like... I don't know? Months?"
You paused, contemplating the offer because yes.
It has been a while since you went out and had some fun. Maybe, you can blame it on that fact, that it was the reason why you're so frustrated.
Why you think and dream about him a lot.
Maybe, you do deserve a little treat after all the hard work that you're exerting for college.
"You actually made sense," you stood up and pat Beomgyu's fluffy hair, "that's nice."
He pouts and swats your hand away, "So, you in?" he excitedly asked.
"Yeah." you let out a little laugh at his childish antics when you finally agreed, pumping his fist in the air with a 'whoosh' coming out of his mouth, "It's a good way to let out some steam."
That is how you found yourself in your skimpiest outfit and hottest hair and make-up you could manage, dancing in some club named Hybe.
The place is classy to be honest. Glaring lights of different spectrum that shines through the mosaic tiles, blaring music from the most popular djs out there, and the fucking fancy drinks that they serve.
Yeah, you could let out some steam, like Beomgyu said.
But how do you do that exactly?
You sighed and excused yourself from the man that you're grinding with on the dance floor, giving some lame excuse of running out of social battery, to which he returned with a genuine smile and telling you to rest.
'What a good boy.' you think, returning to your booth and sitting down with a sigh before gulping down a glass of cocktail, eyes scanning the area with dismay.
Maybe this is a mistake, you couldn't get him out of your head and no matter how many handsome men come your way, they do not turn you on like how he does.
You groaned, burying your face on your hand when an eerily familiar voice resonated from behind you.
"Now, why is a gorgeous lady like you is alone?"
You turned around, eyes blinking slowly like a sleepy cat because surely, this is a dream. Right? Because how come that the Choi Jongho himself, is standing in front of you in all of his sexy glory.
"Oh." you both said at the same time, an awkward silence ensued that he broke himself.
"I.. uh, okay I'm sorry I didn't know."
A hobbling reason on his part but it is true.
In his defense, Jongho doesn't have any idea that it was you, he couldn't see your face directly because of the dim lighting, but he sure as hell can see your sexy as fuck figure that has been dancing away in the club for a few hours now.
He was so, so enamored that he thought, 'Hey, maybe I should go talk to her and get some good fuck tonight.' when he saw you walk back to your table.
He did not expect a familiar face to pop up, nonetheless, his student.
A student that he had been crushing on ever since he saw the way your boobs jiggle during a volleyball class. Or the way your ass looks great when doing the squats. Or your hot skin on his palms during the swimming lessons.
Still, he knows it's wrong for him to make a move on you, his moral compass going strong and the rational part of him kicks him in the shin when he sees your surprised face at his attempt at flirting.
He was about to go back after apologizing, really, but you just had to cripple his remaining sanity.
"Wait!" you unconsciously called out for him when he was about to leave, clutching the cuff of his suit and you paused, closing your eyes and praying to the gods out there to split open the floor right now and swallow you whole.
What the fuck are you doing? Damn, what will he think of you now?
Some kind of desperate slut?
"Yes?" he turned back around, an inquiring look on his face that made you think that maybe, just maybe, you could bag him, even just for tonight.
Yeah, you are a desperate slut. Only for him, though.
"You could.. stay?" you mumbled, wincing at how timid you sounded.
"What? Didn't quite catch that." he leaned down to better hear you, allowing you to inhale his manly, musky scent.
"I, uh.. uhm. I said, you could stay." you repeated, voice louder than before but for some reason, he still couldn't hear it.
"C'mon princess, speak up. Can't hear what you're tryna say."
What a menace. He did hear you perfectly and clearly, he just wants you to say it again. With more clarity, with more confidence. He kind of wants you to beg.
"Stay." you finally blurted out, finding some conviction when he called you princess, because who on earth would do that? It kind of gave you the impression that he is testing the waters with you, like an interim check whether he could spend the remaining time of his night with you.
"Please." you added, releasing his cuff with a sigh that you didn't know you were holding.
He smirked, breaking the nonchalant countenance and taking a seat beside you, his arm automatically flying on your shoulders, pulling you close to him.
"That wasn't so hard now, is it?" he whispered against your ear, his hot breath in contrast with the cold atmosphere in the club tickled you just enough to leave goosebumps on your skin. Before you could retort, he removed his arm, placing it on the table and waving a waiter to serve more alcohol.
You tried to hide your disappointment at the loss of contact, humming of approval when he asked you if you wanted to drink more.
Soon, you find yourself in a buzzing state, hazy mind, lips numb and swollen from the constant biting of the man you're with.
"God, you don't know how long I've been wanting to do this." he panted against your mouth, his rough hand squeezing your breasts through your thin dress.
"Jongho." you whined, lifting your back from the mattress, "Tell me then, how long?" you taunted, brushing your nose with his.
"Ever since I saw you." he admitted, peppering your face with butterfly kisses, trailing down your neck and attacking your sweet spot once he heard you moan from the surprise contact.
Your hands flew to his hair, "Tell me more."
Jongho groaned, loving how submissive yet demanding you are.
"I wanted to kiss you." he punctuated it with a peck, "Then I wanted to touch you." he continued, deft fingers trailing down your body until he reached your bottom, cupping your heat in his large hand, "Then I wanted to take you as mine. Claim you," his hand went inside your dress, pinching your inner thigh that made you squeak, "fuck you until you're crying."
If there is one thing that you're wishing for right now is that for time to stop. You don't want this night to end.
The man that you're pining since the start of the semester is basically confessing his desire for you, and you sure as hell is eating all that up. You didn't have to know whether his words were true or not, because you'll stupidly believe him. It shows how much you like him.
No need to worry though, everything that he's saying is the realest, deepest feelings and thoughts of you.
Jongho had already noticed you from the start. The way you talk politely, the hidden sass that only shows when you're bickering with your friends, your effort and dedication in your chosen course (which he really admires). And of course, the way you look at him like you wanted him to break you.
He saw it all, he felt it all.
And he loved it.
He loved the attention from you.
Who wouldn't? Anyone would be lucky to have you. The popular, intelligent, kind and pretty girl of the university.
But you didn't have to know such details on why he's so charmed by you. What's important is that you are on his bed, and that he's about to rock your world.
"Do it." you said with finality, gripping his hair to stare right into his eyes, "Do whatever you want to me."
That was all it took for him to go feral, ripping your dress (no bra, to his delight) and delving right into your soft chest. Your protests fell on deaf ears, because you really liked that dress, but then you couldn't complain anymore when he reassured you that he'll just buy you a new, better one.
You moan when he bites between the valley of your breast, groping your right mound while he busied his mouth with sucking on your nipple.
You are hyper aware of his electrifying touch. You feel everything. From his tongue flicking on your bud, the tugging of his fingers on your nipple, and the slithering hand down your navel that reached your panties.
"What's this?" he mumbles against your boobs, circling his fingers on the wet patch of the flimsy fabric, "Didn't take you for a lace girl." he snickers, making you slap his shoulders.
"Shut up." you whine, then you realize that he's still completely clothed. "Shut up and remove this." you ordered, pulling the silk tie of his expensive looking suit.
"Aren't you a feisty one?" he raised an eyebrow, lifting himself from you when he felt like he's left enough marks on your chest area.
"I like that attitude," he says, removing the tie from his neck, "but I don't tolerate it, especially if my doll knows that she's not the one in charge here, yes?"
You gasped when he clutched your tiny wrists using only one hand, binding your hands together using the tie and connecting it to the bed post, rendering you immovable.
"Wha-!" you tried protesting, but he shushed you once more by pushing your panties inside your mouth.
Since when did he remove your underwear?
"Chin up, princess. Watch the show." he speaks in a deep, dark voice. Basically imploring you to glue your eyes on him as he started stripping himself.
He unbuttons his crisp, dress shirt sensually, sliding the clothing to his shoulders and my god, were you blown away.
You do know that he's sculpted, given that his muscles are almost always bulging from his outfits back at school, but to see him in this natural state of bareness registered something in you... he is ripped as fuck.
"Hngg." you twisted around the bed, trying to free yourself from the restraints to no avail. You wanted to touch him, make contact with his skin because watching is not enough. You need to feel him on your palm.
"What," he chuckles, tossing his shirt somewhere in the room and continues his mini strip show, "wanna have a taste of this?" he jeered, reaching for his belt and unfastening it too slowly for your liking.
You nodded your head fervently, batting your eyelashes at him in an attempt to make him give in and let you do as you please. He shook his head, removing his pants and undergarments in one go before proceeding to grab your jaw, not giving you a second to fully admire his naked body.. or his ginormous length.
"I did remember telling you to be patient, princess." he snickers at your fallen expression when you realize that you wouldn't be able to touch him as soon as possible, "Let's make a deal, yeah?"
Your eyes lightened up with hope, and in his point of view, you're so damn adorable despite the humiliating position that you're in.
"If you don't cum within five minutes of me eating you out," he finally utters, slotting himself in between your legs and dipping his fingers into your core, taking a swift sniff of how good you smell, "then you'll be free."
You gulped, not having enough conviction that you won't cum in five minutes because it's been too long. It's been a while since a man touched you, and you're afraid that one swipe of his tongue will immediately edge you. But for fucks sake, you have to try in order to get what you want.
You nodded again, making eye contact with him with determination, a proud smile on his face before going down town on you without much of a warning. Giving your sopping core a long lick, easily finding your bundle of nerves and sucking on it.
You took a deep breath, willing yourself not to cum. You tell yourself not to give in, even if his tongue traces all the shapes in your clit, even if his wet appendage goes deep into your cunt, even if the slurping noises are making you crazy.
"Ah fuck this." he cursed, inserting two of his fingers inside and curling them mercilessly, hitting all the right spots.
"Go ahead and cum, princess. Lemme taste you." he mumbles against your clit, sending nice vibrations that add to the pleasure, "Don't worry, I'll remove the tie later." he convinces you, not wanting to do the deal anymore because you're too irresistible. Giving oral like a madman is not sufficient, he needed to feel your insides as well, to give him an idea on how tight you are.
"Cum on my tongue, baby."
You writhed around the mattress, gushing around his tongue and fingers. Complaining when he didn't stop swiping his tongue on your pussy, the overstimulation getting to you.
"Sorry, sorry. Here let me." he laughs, showing his gummy smile that doesn't match the situation but still, the lights outside the house that shines through the window were adequate to let you see his amazing visuals.
He untied your wrists and got rid of the gag, giving you an apologetic smile as he rubs your red skin, probably from the harsh pulling that you did. "Got carried away." he explains, making you giggle at his sudden cute attitude, leaning up and giving him a quick peck.
"It's okay." you say, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him down on you, "Besides, we have better things to do." pushing the innuendo behind your sentence by lifting your hips, grinding against his hardness.
He hissed at the sensation, "You really do know how to rile me up." he smirks, finally positioning himself, sliding his cock in between your folds to gather some slick, "Hope you don't regret this in the morning."
You rolled your eyes, "Oh, I won- Ah!" you wailed when he went inside you in one go, immediately thrusting in an animalistic pace without letting you adjust first.
He hits the right spot when he shifts his hips a bit, the tip of his cock brushing on your g-spot so perfectly, "Oh god! Right there! Jong-" he cuts you off again, sliding his hand on your neck and choking you, shaking his head in disappointment.
"That's not how you should call me, Ms. L/N." he whispers in your ear in a condescending tone, and in a state of lust with the pressure of his hand on your neck, everything that is happening around you seems to arouse you more.
"S-sir," you panted, your nails scratching his back when he slowed down his pace, waiting for you to finish your sentence, "please don't slow down. Fuck me harder."
Jongho took a deep breath, how could he even resist you and say no when you're this pretty under him?
"That's my good girl." he grunts, pistoning inside you and holding your hips in a bruising grip, your angelic moans motivates him to do more.
The embarrassing loud squelches and skin slapping from where the both of you are connected echoed through your ears, stupefying you even more from the lewdness that surrounds the four corners of the room. Each thrust of his hits the perfect spot inside you, and your sensitivity makes you feel even the prominent vein on his thick length.
You chanted his name, Sir Jongho, as he liked to be called, signalling him that you're close, as if you, clenching around his cock still isn't enough to give him the sign.
"Close?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows in concentration, sweat falling from his forehead down to your cheeks, further pounding into you with much force if that's even possible when you gave him the green light, not having the proper ability to speak.
"Go ahead, baby. Cum." he egged you on, leaning down to suck on your neck while his hand went to your clit and rubbed it harshly, pushing his cock back and forth with vigor, making it his mission to turn you into a mess.
"God, Jongho!" you howled, cupping his face and kissing him deeply, and that's what made you cum, the intimacy of the contact. Your lips on his in a chaotic, open mouthed kiss where your teeth clashed and tongued meshed around with each other.
He groaned against your mouth, releasing his seeds in your gummy walls when he felt your insides wrap around him tightly. As much as he wanted to prolong the intercourse, the pleasure was too much to handle.
That's how good you felt, he guesses.
A few minutes of silence, with only your heavy breathings can be heard passed, coming down from your highs. You felt his weight on you, but you were too spent to care. His warmth lulls you into dreamland, then everything is black.
---------------------------------------------------
You stirred around the bed, feeling icky and sore, and when you went to hug what you assumed was a pillow, you were mortified.
Since when did your pillow, an inanimate object, have the capacity to hug you back?
You slowly open your eyes, seeing a different ceiling, and surely this is not the scent that you are accustomed to.
Again, since when did your room smelled like wood and spices? You recalled it, crystal clear, that cherry blossoms and vanilla are your go to scents.
Then you hear someone's breathing, the mortifying reality draws near when you decided to turn your head from the figure beside you.
Shit.
You bit your lip, panicking but you ultimately opted to be rational for once in your life, trying to calm yourself and rethink what the heck happened last night.
You remember begging him to stay with you at the booth, drinking shot after shot until you were wasted out of your mind.
"Alright, I think we need to get you home." Jongho chuckles, stopping you from downing the cocktail. Sensing that you had enough alcohol for the night.
"Noo!" you whined, reaching for the glass in his hand, "And I don't wanna go home yet!" you cried out, clinging into his arm.
Who knew you were this childish when you're drunk, he ain't complaining though, Jongho thinks that you're like a lovely, sweet piece of candy in this state.
"Come on, princess." dropping a wad of cash on the table (payment and tip) and helping you get up.
It was bearable for the most part, you were like a feather in his arms, light and airy, but the hardest part of the short journey to his car was your incessant mewling and your very obvious actions of seducing him.
"Oh wow!" you exclaimed, drunkenly looking around his luxurious vehicle, "You're fucking rich." you tittered at the newfound information, touching the leather covering of the seat, "You're hot, handsome, sexy, and rich? What a catch."
Jongho's posture stiffened, avoiding your sultry gaze by taking a deep breath to calm his libido down, inserting his keys and getting ready to drive.
"Thanks." he says without much emotion, "Now tell me your address so you can rest."
"Ugh." you rolled your eyes, leaning over to his side and you didn't miss the way he ogled at your exposed legs and cleavage, "I told you I don't wanna go home yet."
"Then what do you want to do?" he sighs, running a hand through his hair (which you find really attractive), exasperated at the situation. Seriously, you're making this difficult for him.
You gripped his face and forced him to look at you, his eyes widening at your daring initiative to make a move on him. His adam apple moved when he took a gulp, and that made you fancy him more.
"I want to kiss you," you admitted, hands moving down to his chest, his eyes wandering on your lips, "then I want you to fuck me like you mean it."
There goes his sanity, crashing his mouth on top of yours in a heated lip lock, lifting you up easily and placing you on his lap. Despite the cramped space, you two managed to fit, and it only made the scene hotter.
"Let's continue this at my place, yeah?" he asked, moving away from you and returning to his previous position in the driver's seat.
You were in Choi Jongho's car. You made out with him. He took you to his place. You fucked each other... and now you wanted to slap yourself because of your stupidity. How could you even let yourself make a mistake, goodness, you really need to control your horny ass.
Then you made up your mind, yep. You'll escape then act like nothing happened. Yeah, that's a great idea! Genius.
You moved like a turtle, attempting to wiggle away but you were stopped by his strong arms, pulling you flush on his chest.
"Finally you're awake." his gruff voice in the morning stirred something inside you and for the second time, you had to remind yourself to not let your hormones dictate your actions.
"I'm sorry!" you don't know what you're apologizing for, but you do know that whatever you did and said last night was inappropriate, given that he was the one who talked to you first, it was you who persuaded him to have sex with you.
"I'll leave for now then I will pay for the drinks last n-" he puts a finger on your lips, shushing you as he puts a strand of your stray hair behind your ear.
"Don't worry, I'll pay for your drinks at the bar from now on. I'll even let you do your fantasies on me. Just do me a favor angel," you stared into his orbs, sleepy yet warm, "keep this between us."
And that is how you find yourself every weekend on the bar (that he, surprisingly, owns), wearing the dresses he bought you, drinking free alcoholic beverages and at the end of it all, your limbs are entangled with his. Passionate 'lovemaking' as he liked to call it.
You love the thrill of this forbidden romance.
Sneaking kisses behind closed doors, hugging each other goodbye whenever he insists to drives you home, sucking him under the table while he did his best to talk to a student that needs his help, then fucking you on the said table, right on top of the papers he's checking.
He made you happy, and you know you make him happy as well, you can see it in his eyes. But it was more evident on you, as Beomgyu pointed out how 'bright' you are that the shift kind of scares him.
You only brushed it off with a smile, telling him that you're only taking care of yourself. Even if you badly want to tell him the whole story, you suppressed it, keeping your promise with Jongho intact as to not ruin both of your reputations. Besides, only a few months left before your original PE teacher returns, then you can let loose. Announce the blossoming relationship with Jongho without any care in the world.
---------------------------------------------------
"No."
One word. It only took him one word to stain your proposal and plant a seed of doubt in your brain.
"What?" you scoffed, crossing your arms in disbelief, "What do you mean no? Are you ashamed of me?" you accused, hurt at his blatant rejection at the idea of becoming official after his contract in your university.
"No, of course not baby, listen to me," he cupped your face gently, "I'm sorry, we'll talk about this tomorrow, alright? I'm kind of stressed right now because of all the work." he smiles, giving the crown of your head a peck.
You sighed and held his hands that are still on your face, rubbing your thumb on his skin, "Okay." you resigned, trusting him with all your heart.
Come next day and everything shattered. Your trust, your heart, your world.. cluttered on his palms.
You were casually humming a tune you've heard on spotify, a pep in your steps as you walked leisurely to Jongho's office, ready to continue the conversation with him from yesterday.
Then you were frozen in your position as you heard the topic from the principal's office by accident. You weren't a nosy person, but hearing his name sparked a troubling curiosity within you.
"Mr. Choi, we really appreciate you. I was even thinking of making you a regular here." your principal speaks, but his next words brought a ringing sound in your ears, messing with you, mentally and emotionally.
"Too bad, you're about to be married soon, and abroad too!"
You heard Jongho chuckle, but that's not all, a honeyed voice laughed as well. A woman's voice.
You couldn't help but take a peek inside, and there he was, the man that you have feelings for, with a girl beside him.
A prettier, sexier, older girl. Someone who looks like she got her shit together.
Someone who is better than you in all aspects.
"Actually, me and my fiancé thought of getting married here," the lady placed her hand on Jongho's chest, leaning her head on his left shoulder, "but he insisted on getting married in Paris! Isn't he a romantic one?"
She giggled like a goddamned witch (that's all in your head because right now, you're full of hatred), and then, at that moment, the puzzle pieces fell into place.
Why he wanted to keep your relationship a secret.
Why wasn't he keen on taking the title as your boyfriend.
Because you are not the main, not the original, you are the other girl.
The other girl that everyone despised. The one that you read on tiktok and stories, the home wrecker.
On this occasion, you kind of also loathed yourself. Only there to make him satisfied, to keep him company. You're convenient, but right now, you're thrown out of the picture because his one and only is here.
You've had enough of this bullshit.
You were about to turn around, ready to drown yourself in sadness and self-pity, but then you made eye contact with him. His eyes widened, dread obvious in his features. Despite the tears making your eyes glassy, you willed yourself to stand up against his betrayal, giving him a hard glare as if telling him, 'I hope you're happy, you traitor, don't show yourself in front of me ever again.'
Then you walked away, your back straightened and with your chin up. Certainly, you are not about to ruin yourself, not like this.
On the other hand, Jongho was quick to excuse himself from the meeting, giving some lame excuse and running after you, seeing you walking down an empty hallway.
'Perfect.' he thought, speeding towards your direction, catching you by your wrist and turning you around so suddenly that it gave you a whiplash. Upon meeting his worried face, you immediately pushed him away, the anger in your face that once held love for him squeezed at his heart.
"Y/N, let me explain. I-"
"Shut the fuck up." you rudely cut him off, balling your fist on your sides to prevent yourself from doing something that you'll regret.
"Please, give me a chance to explain." he pleads, but the more you hear his voice, the more it makes you feel worse.
Honestly, you just want to go home and cry. Pathetic, definitely, but you couldn't care less, you had to get these negative feelings out of your system.
"Didn't you hear me?" your voice shakes, but you continue regardless, you are about to give him a piece of your mind.
"I said shut up. It's not worth it, you're not worth it."
A look of hurt flashed on his visage and it somehow sparked something in your pride because that's good, you want your words to pierce through him like a knife. You want to give him pain as well.
"Don't say that, Y/N, I-" he starts bargaining again, to which you blocked again with a sarcastic laugh.
"Oh, I'll say what I want to say. Don't tell me what to do, Sir Jongho." you specifically emphasized the petname that you would usually use inside the bedroom to give him a sense of what he had done.
"Will you please just let me say something?!" he whisper yelled, frustrated at your attitude.
You raised an eyebrow, the audacity of this man to act like a hotshot when he's the one in the wrong here.
"The floor's all yours then. Talk." you challenged him, only for him to turn silent, gaping like a fish in front of you because really, he went here without any prior thoughts.
"What are you waiting for?!" you yelled, raising your hands in defeat, worn out from this dumb confrontation.
What is he even gonna say though?
That he's sorry you caught him? He's sorry for hurting you and all that shit.
He knew what he was doing, he's not a kid, but he went through it all for the sake of adventure. You are a territory he trespassed, and he's about to pay the consequences.
"I really did like you. This," he pointed between you and him, "it's real."
He hung his head low, not having it in him to face you.
Real your ass.
"You like me?" you asked, hating the way he earnestly nodded his head, "If you really did like me, then you wouldn't make me do this." you stepped towards his figure, the eerily calm tone you're using doesn't sit well with him.
"If you like me, then you would've been honest with me." you jarringly shoved him.
"If you like me, then you should have not given me any hope that I have a chance with you."
Another shove.
"If you like me, then why the fuck do you have to put me in this position?!" you sobbed, giving him a last miserable shove. He accepted all of it, unmoving on his spot on the floor, watching you break down.
"You like me... but you love her. Right?"
"I do."
Well, that was a slap on your face. Of course he loves her, enough to break your heart. Enough to not choose you.
"Y/N, I'm truly sorry."
"No, you're not." you looked at him one last time, "Being guilty doesn't mean that you're sorry."
Then you're gone, leaving him in the hallway while he's having an internal battle with himself.
---------------------------------------------------
"Dude , what the fuck?" Beomgyu scrunches his nose, watching you mope around for the past few weeks. He picked up a used shirt from your floor, grimacing when something sticky adhered on his fingers.
"Go away." your muffled voice sounded from under your sheets, making him sigh in defeat and sitting down on your bed. He sets his hand on your foot that was sticking out of your blanket, giving it a tender massage.
"You know, you need to help yourself in order to move on." his soothing tone smoothens the scowl on your features, lifting your blanket from your body and facing your bestfriend.
"I know that." you mumbled sadly, "I know that.. but it's easier said than done."
After your 'break-up' with Jongho, you two went your separate ways.
You did all that you can to avoid him, the PE classes were hell and most of the time, you pretended to be sick so you won't have to attend the lessons and see his face. His presence alone made you want to throw up.
When he's gone for good, there was a moment of desperation within you, wishing that he'll call you. Hoping that maybe, he'll realize that you're the one for him. Praying that he'll choose you instead, that he'll come back to you, begging for one more chance.
All of those went down the drain when you stalked his social media, photos and videos of his extravagant wedding all over the feed, and you couldn't help but cry.
That girl in the gorgeous, white dress could've been you. It should've been you, the one he's saying his vows to, promising to protect with all his might. It would've been you, the one he will love until he's grey and old.
Although you know, right from the start, it was never you.
The denial stage was better than the acceptance stage, this shit is by far the worst you have ever gone through.
Like they all say, facts do really hurt.
You're trying your best to heal, but the insecurities are gnawing at you. Unanswered questions kept you up all night, the dark bags under your eyes are the tell tale sign of it.
You blinked when Beomgyu sighs again, bringing you out of your stupor.
"Come on up." he says, pulling you up suddenly, throwing a hoodie on your face, "Let's go somewhere."
You groaned, "No." you muttered under your breath, proceeding to lie back on the comfort of your bed to no avail, since Beomgyu, being the stronger one, dragged you down with him until you were out of the house.
"My god!" you protested, pulling away from him with a half-hearted angry glare, "You can't just drag me like that!"
"I can and I will!" he yelled back, glaring at you with the same amount of heat that you're radiating.
"And why is that?" you raised your eyebrows, putting your arms on your hips like a mom demanding an explanation.
“Because I care.” he whispers, and you completely hear it. You did think that your ears are playing some kind of game, but then Beomgyu repeated the sentence with more conviction.
“Beomgyu.. I, what do you mean by that?”
“You don’t need to think too much about it.” he started to voice out his thoughts, which was a bombshell since your friend, in spite of his stubbornness and motor mouth, rarely displays what he really feels, “I’m just tired of seeing you like this, you know?” he looks into your eyes, waiting if you’ll retort or something, but when he sees that you’re waiting for him to finish, he goes ahead and takes the opportunity to speak.
“It’s not like you to mope around because of some guy who can’t treat you right. I know, it’s difficult but I can’t stand seeing you so hopeless.. I, this is not the Y/N that I know and love.”
Your breathing hitched, ‘Is he?’
Beomgyu took your hand in his, the familiar coziness of his skin against yours somehow gave you a sense of solace, a feeling that he always brought with him whenever he’s with you.
“You’re not alone, alright? So let’s go get some ice cream, my treat.” he smiled at you, and you couldn’t help but beam back, pouncing at him so suddenly that he almost stumbled back. Thankfully, his balance and core are great, so no one was hurt at the collision.
“Thank you.” you mumbled, giving some space and intertwining your fingers with his, “I appreciate this so much.”
His eyes softened, the bright yet soft orange hue of the sunset cascades on his side profile, further highlighting his charms (how on earth are you only noticing this now is another mystery for you to solve.)
“I appreciate you too,” his eyes crinkled, a mischievous glint on his brown orbs as he disconnected your hands and ran away from you, “only after you shower though.” he shouts, laughing like a maniac.
You were left dumbfounded, of course he’ll find a way to ruin such a sweet moment.
Still, it wouldn’t be as fun as he didn’t. So you chased after him, ready to punch him in the gut for the playful remark he threw at you.
“Beomgyu you dick! Come back here!”

4:15 PM
Your hand pressed against the cold glass as you held the phone to your ear. If someone had asked you where you would be in five years you would've never guessed it would be jail. Interestingly enough, you were happy here. Happy to have sacrificed your freedom for him. He was going to break you out anyways so you could both continue to cleanse the world of its sins.
The world didn't see what you two were doing as good. In the eyes of the law, murdering those who were evil made you evil too. Something that, didn’t make sense to the both of you. Clearly the system was flawed and that’s simply another thing you would have to fix. Gods were what you both were.
Placing your hand back in your lap, you stare at the man in front of you. Mere glass separated you two and if you both were brash, you would’ve broken out already but being in jail further helped both of your causes.
Jongho places his hand on the glass, reading the ink sprawled all over his hand. The cop behind you doesn’t notice, or maybe he does but since it looks like gibberish, he ignores it. ‘How stupid’ you think to yourself as you finish reading the writing sprawled across the palm of his hand. How the justice system could hire people so brainless and spineless was beyond you.
A giggle escapes your lips as you watch the complete chaos happening before you. Soon, you would be out of here and making the world a better place with your lover by your side. How sickeningly sweet.

Song Series One-shot: Choi Jongho - All I Have by EMO and Oskar Cyms
Genre: angst, idol au, established relationship
Pairing: ateez Jongho x idol!reader (f)
Word Count: 1.2k
Warnings: none
Disclaimer: Please note that my Song Series One-shots are purely based on how I personally interpret the lyrics of the songs I chose for this series. It is not based on the music video (if it has one).

Walking along the beach at dusk, you could feel the weight of the world pressing down on your shoulders. The waves crashed gently, leaving footprints that were quickly washed away, much like the memories you shared with Jongho.
He was walking beside you, his hands buried deep in his pockets, eyes fixed on the horizon, half his face covered by a black mask. The silence between you two was heavy, filled with unspoken words and lingering emotions.
"Jongho," you began, your voice trembling. "Do you ever think about what we had?"
He stopped and turned to look at you, his eyes searching yours for a moment before he replied. "Every day, Y/N. But it feels like we’ve drifted too far apart."
Being an idol wasn't easy by any means. It also didn't help that your company was based in the absolute opposite side of the city, far away from Jongho's.
You had been dating for two years now, and Ateez was finally, gradually receiving the recognition they deserved, which means that Jongho's schedule was busier than usual.
This was a very rare occasion where both you and Jongho had some time off; he just finished recording for the next album, and your group got back from your Asia tour only yesterday. Usually, you wouldn't see Jongho this early due to your exhaustion, but you pushed that aside to see him, even if it was only for an hour or two.
The weather was chilly, so the two of you decided to meet up at a beach in the evening, knowing there wouldn't be many people at the beach on a cold day, especially since it was further away from the city.
You felt a pang in your heart, the realization hitting you hard that maybe your relationship with Jongho was coming to an end. "I need you, Jongho. I need you now more than ever," you murmured, looking down at your shoes so that he couldn't see your teary eyes.
You had poured your heart and soul into this relationship. Spending time with each other was sadly neither in your control nor in his. But every free moment you got, you never hesitated to tell Jongho about it, to check that maybe, just maybe he would be free for a little while too.
Jongho was different, though. As much as he wanted to see you when he was free, he was too exhausted to do so. It didn't help that you both were far away from each other. He only ever told you that he's free when he had a full day off.
Jongho sighed, the sound filled with regret and longing. "I know. It’s been so hard, feeling like nothing is the same anymore, and our busy lives. But something's holding us back, and I don't know how to fix it."
It just wasn't working out anymore.
You reached out and touched his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin despite the chilly weather. "I gave you all I had. I want to be with you through all of this. I want to support you, support us."
Jongho shook his head slowly. "Is there a way to make it right? Was there ever a chance for us to truly make it through, Jongho?" You questioned, gulping.
"Right now... all I see are fleeting moments, Y/N, that are slipping away too quickly."
Tears welled up in your eyes as you listened to his words. "I thought we could find a way, Jongho. I thought love was enough," you said, the tears now falling down, absorbing into your own face mask.
He took a deep breath, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Can we really find our way out of this, Y/N? Because I feel lost, like I’m wandering further away from what we had, chasing promises that never really happen."
Jongho blinked, the tears escaping his eyes. He didn't want to give up on you, but he didn't want to hold you back. He blamed himself a lot for not being able to see you more often, for not telling you he had a little free time in the middle of the day, for not be able to hold you, to kiss you, to tell you you're doing well in such a harsh industry, to comfort you when pratice gets overwhelming, to be someone you can lean on when life gets tough.
He used to be able to do that before, but now he couldn't give you that anymore despite how badly he wanted to.
You stepped closer, wrapping your arms around him, feeling his heartbeat against your chest. "We'll find our way out together. I promise. I gave you all I have, and I'll keep giving. Just don’t walk away, please..."
Jongho held you tightly, his voice barely above a whisper. "I want to believe that. I really do. But I just don’t know if we can break free."
Truthfully, you knew you had to let go. For him. For yourself. Love isn't enough to keep this going.
But you loved him. You were so in love with him as you've been for two years now. You didn't want to give up.
Before you could say anything, he continued, "I can't give up on you, Y/N. I know I should, and I know that's what's best for you cause I can't be there for you the way I was before, and I'm just not good enough for—"
"Shh," you interrupted him, taking his hands in yours. The sound of the waves against the damp sand seemed louder now. "You being here with me is enough, Jongho. Fighting for me, for us, is enough."
Something had to change to make this relationship work, but the two of you weren't sure what to do.
As the night grew darker, you stood there, holding each other, hoping that somehow, you could find a way back to the love you once knew.
The waves continued to crash, erasing the footprints behind you, but you held onto the hope that new ones could be made.

A Christmas Miracle
Snowflakes fell gently from the sky, each a tiny work of art in their accumulation on the Seoul streets. The city was done up in holiday brilliance, with every storefront wearing twinkling lights and carolers serenading their way onto every corner. Against this festive backdrop, you were battling the chill of winter, walking the busy streets in search of a special gift.
It was Christmas Eve, and you had decided that this time you would find a gift appropriate for the person who meant the whole world to you. It was cold outside. You could see your breath in small clouds in the cool air as you wrapped your gloves around a cup of steaming hot chocolate. But your mind was no longer filled with the holiday cheer occurring all around; it was filled with one person—Choi Jongho.
Jongho, with his infectious smile and kind heart, was someone who had been there for you. The two of you continued to grow closer each passing day over the last year by sharing jokes and comforting each other. Lately, though, you found yourself feeling something deeper-something that extends further than friendship. With Christmas so close, you knew you wanted him to know how much he meant to you.
You turned into a quaint little shop, its windows frosted over, delicate snowflakes etched into them. A bell above the door jingled as one went inside, wrapped in the warm smell of pine and cinnamon. Inside, it was a winter wonderland: shelves lined with ornaments, scarves, and other pretty trinkets. Your perfect place to find a special gift.
As you were making your way up and down the aisles, your phone buzzed with a message from Jongho. It was just a simple text, reminding you that he had thought of you, but it made your heart flutter all the same.
Jongho: "Hey! Just thinking of you. Hope you're enjoying the Christmas Eve. Let me know if you need any help with your shopping."
You smiled at the message, typing a quick reply before slipping your phone back into your pocket. You continued browsing, looking around the shelves to find something that would depict Jongho perfectly.
Hours passed, and among piles of everything imaginable, you finally found it: an old music box with an elegant, lacy snowflake pattern. It opened with the soft playing of a melodical tune, enchanting and full of nostalgic hints. It sounded just like Jongho's perfect depiction-warm and beautiful, with a touch of magic.
As you left the shop, the present so elegantly wrapped, you checked your watch; it was growing late, so you hoped it wouldn't be too dark when help came in search of Jongho. You hustled a little faster through the streets toward the park where you had planned to meet.
There was a big Christmas tree that stood at the center of the winter wonderland, with its lights flickering as if thousands of stars were banded together. Families and couples were milling around in the holiday festivities. Jongho was right there; his figure stood against the lights, his cozy red scarf and bright smile making the heart jump with gusto.
"Y/N!", he yelled, his voice so warm and buzzing with excitement. He waved for you to go to him, and you quickened your pace to his side.
"Merry Christmas, Jongho!", you exclaimed, your cheeks red from the cold.
"Merry Christmas", he said tugging you into a hug. His arms were warm as you wrapped yours tightly around him, the pine and cedar subtle beneath his cologne. You hugged him tightly, basking in the moment.
Even as you drew back, Jongho's gaze held yours, all warm with fondness. "You look amazing. I'm so thankful I was able to spend the evening with you."
"Me too," you said, doing a flip inside your stomach. You steadied yourself and leaned towards the bag, taking out the music box. "I bought you something."
Jongho's face colored in shock and happiness as you passed him the gift. "You really didn't have to...."
"I wanted to," you said, your voice soft but earnest. "Go ahead, open it."
The wrapping was removed from the precious object, allowing the hands to unwrap the delicate paper to find the most carefully constructed music box. His features turned from curiosity to pure amazement as he popped the lid and listened to the tender melody.
"This is amazing," he said in an emotional tone. "Thank you, Y/N. It's perfect."
You watched him with a shy smile, feeling happy as realization flooded his senses. "I'm glad you like it."
Both of you just stood there for a while, as if the world around you melted away. The music from the box played softly, adding a magical atmosphere to the night. Jongho took your hand gently, his touch warm against your skin.
He started very seriously, in a low tone of voice, "You know, I've been wanting to tell you something. You have made this past year so special for me, and I have never met someone who understands me like you do, and.."
His words trailed off, and he looked up at you with an exposed and hopeful expression. Your heart was beating rapidly in your chest, and you knew it was the right time for which you had been waiting.
"Jongho," you said in a soft voice, "I feel the same way, you mean more to me than words can describe."
He seemed to process your words for a moment, then stepped closer, his eyes never leaving yours. The distance between you closed, and you could feel the warmth of his breath mingling with yours. Slowly, he leaned in until his lips brushed against yours with a gentle kiss. The world melted away with the deepening of the kiss, soft yet passionate, telling more in this single touch of what was shared between them and yet to be shared. His taste filled her senses like sweet nectar, and the touch of his lips to hers felt natural.
By the time you parted, you both were breathless, smiling. Jongho was so overwhelmed, his eyes shone with the utmost happiness and relief as he reached to softly cup your face.
"Merry Christmas, Y/N," he softly whispered with so much adoration in his voice, "This is the best gift I could ever have."
"Merry Christmas, Jongho," you answered, and with that, both your hearts were raised. "I feel the same way."
You two just stood, wrapped up in each other's warmth under the twinkling lights as the snow kept falling around you. In the background, you could hear the enchanting jingle of the music box, perfect to remind you of the love and magic that had blossomed between the two of you. And in that moment, when the world was aglow with festive cheer and the promise of a new year, you knew this would be a Christmas that would forever hold a special place in your heart.

Hi it's me again 🤭 Hope everything is alright! If you do take requests still and like the idea, I thought about Hongjoong or Jongho neglecting their relationship, like always being out with anyone else and always at work, eventually lashing out at their partner's last desperate attempts to save the relationship and finally realising what they've lost after months? 👀💕
Choi Jongho : Regret (Part 1/2)
Pairing : Choi Jongho (Ateez) and named character (Na Jieun)
_______________

Jieun : jongho? When are you coming home?
Jieun could hear the sounds of party music and people laughing from the other end of the phone, her hands clenching against the couch fabric as she realized her boyfriend was probably at some party. He had time to go to a party but not being with her?
Jongho : jieun why do you keep calling me every 5 minutes asking me the same exact question! I told you I'd be late so just go to sleep.
Jieun : but what time does 'late' mean?
Jongho : oh lord, do whatever you want but please stop calling me.
Before jieun could reply jongho had already cut the call. Jieun sighed, throwing her phone away as she closed her eyes. She missed him, but she supposed he didn't anymore.
______________________
A week ago :
Jieun : jongho I need to talk to you.
Jongho : not now I'm tired.
Jieun : I don't care-
Jongho : for god's sake it's 2 in the morning, jieun. Give me a break.
Jieun : why do you not have time for me anymore?
Jongho turned around, facing jieun with a frown as he asked
Jongho : what?
Jieun : you never have time for me, but you have time to go around with your other celebrity friends. You never have time for me but you have time to sneak around the company with the other members. You never have time for me but you have the time to attend birthday parties and wedding invites, all without me.
Jongho : what exactly are you trying to say?
Jieun stood up, walking up to jongho as she said
Jieun : what I'm saying is, maybe you're embarassed of me.
Jongho scoffed, looking away as he muttered in disbelief
Jongho : this has to be a joke.
Jieun : is that a yes, then?
Jongho : are you stupid, jieun? You think I told my parents and friends that I was dating you because I was embarassed of you? Bought you flowers every week for a year because I missed our one month anniversary because I was embarassed of you? You think I wear your hairband around my wrist every time I go for a function because I'm fucking embarassed of you?
Jieun pressed her lips together as she realized she'd forgotten about all of that. She'd focused on the bad and forgotten about the good, like she almost always did.
Jieun : I'm sorry, I just overthought-
Jongho : no you aren't sorry. Because you'll keep thinking this, you'll keep doubting me and you'll never stop doing it.
Jieun : jongho-
Jongho : all I ever do is work for us, jieun. Every day I go out there, making music and putting it out thinking about you, about our future. I worry for you every day, so I try my best not to give up on this stupid life. And I think, oh when I come back home and see the person I'm doing all this for, she might just give me a kiss and hold me in her arms while I go to sleep. But no, instead you're out here accusing me of being embarrassed about us.
Jieun looked at jongho with teary eyes as he stepped back, his eyes now distant and closed off as he whispered
Jongho : I'm going to sleep, and please, don't come after me.
___________________________
Present time :
After that jieun didn't want to escalate things further, so she'd kept quiet as jongho went through the same cycle once again, every day. He'd go before she was awake and would come back very late. When she'd try to talk with him, jongho would say he didn't have the time for it and would leave immediately. Even during holidays jongho was working, always, fucking, working.
Jieun was an orphan, who grew up in an orphanage where she had no friends. Back in school she used to be the quiet shy kid so even there she'd make no friends. Jieun had no idea how she'd found jongho and had fallen in love with him but he was the single best thing in her life. Apart from him she had no one, no life. She was all alone in the world.
And now jongho was so far away from her, even while being so close to her. She wanted to just leave.
_______________________
2 weeks later :
Jongho stumbled into his house from how tired he was, looking forward to the week of holidays after this one where he'd get to do…nothing. Jongho let out a tired sigh as he took his shoes off, throwing it away before walking towards the living room. His vision felt dizzy, but he was going to try and find jieun. And soon enough he did, because jieun's voice cut through the dark surrounding, almost scaring jongho
Jieun : finally home?
Jongho : as you can see.
Jieun : I wanted to tell you something, I was waiting for you.
Jongho let out a breath, already feeling even more tired as he muttered
Jongho : not again.
Jieun : don't worry jongho, this will be the last time, I promise.
Jongho frowned as jieun walked closer towards jongho, her eyes glittering against the dim lights as jongho's heart dropped.
Jongho : no why are you-
Jieun : I'm leaving.
Jongho : w-what?
Jieun : why are you so surprised? You should've known your actions would have consequences, jongho. You should've known our relationship was breaking down when I was the only one fighting for us.
Jongho : no, no our relationship hasn't broken down-
Jieun : how would you know, huh? How would you know when you barely even look at me anymore!
Jongho tried holding jieun's hand as he said
Jongho : no listen to me-
Jieun : do you have a proper reason, jongho?
Jongho : jieun I told you before, that I am doing this for our betterment. I'm not going to have enough money to take care of you if I don't work like this.
Jieun : I don't care about money, jongho! I want you.
Jongho scoffed, looking away as he said
Jongho : you're being so selfish.
Jieun : I'm being selfish?
Jongho : yes! You don't go for work, and neither do you cook or clean at home. You're not bringing any money back home, jieun. So all of that burden falls on me, and all I've been trying to do, is fulfill your requirements without even taking a break for myself.
Jieun : so if I cook and clean, are you going to spend more time with me?
Jongho : that is not what I'm saying, jieun. God you don't even seem to understand me!
Jieun : and what about all those parties you attended? Were those for our betterment as well?
Jongho : I do that in order to maintain relationships with them, jieun. I do that so I can make use of their resources in the future!
Jieun scoffed as she muttered
Jieun : you make no sense.
Jongho : I wouldn't to you, you don't know anything about the outside world anyway.
Jieun stared at jongho, trying her best to keep the tears at bay as jongho breathed heavily from all the arguing they'd done.
Jieun : so…so what you're saying is that I'm selfish, I don't bring anything to the table, I'm being immature, unaware, and what, not understanding enough. Is that it?
Jongho : jieun-
Jieun : if you think all of that about me then it means our relationship has already broken down, jongho. This is useless now, and tomorrow morning, I will take my leave.
Jongho stared at jieun as she continued
Jieun : because then you can find someone who'd better suit your standards of living, find someone who's more understanding, mature and can deal with your bullshit. Because I definitely can't anymore.
Saying that jieun walked away, banging the guest room door shut behind her. And the next morning when jongho had woken up, she was already all gone.
____________________________
3 weeks later :
Jongho stared blankly into the recording studio computer, his thoughts going back for the nth time that day to jieun. He felt empty, his house felt empty with all her things gone, and his heart felt empty. He missed her, her touches, her voice, her warmth, her presence. He had no idea why he hadn't stopped her from leaving, but he guessed that at that point even if he were to have said something she still would've left him. Their relationship had been too scarred for him to fix it then.
But he still loved her, even though he'd tried drowning his feelings in a thousand bottles of soju, it still hadn't worked. Jongho knew where to find jieun, but did she want to see him? Would she hate him more if she were to find him at her doorstep?
Mingi : yah! Are you listening to me jongho!
Jongho blinked his eyes, coming back to reality as he looked at mingi who was standing right next to his chair with concerned eyes
Mingi : jongho? What did I last say?
Jongho looked at mingi as if he were in a daze before saying
Jongho : uh, what?
Mingi sighed, plopping down on the chair next to jongho before saying
Mingi : what is wrong with you?
Jongho : nothing. I'm just worried about work.
Mingi : work as in Na Jieun?
Jongho : is it that obvious?
Mingi : very. Jongho if you're this worried about her how about you meet with her?
Jongho : I can't, she hates me.
Mingi : did she tell you that?
Jongho : basically.
Mingi rolled his eyes, leaning back against the chair before saying
Mingi : we can't have you like this, jongho. You're not concentrating anymore, and everyone is concerned.
Jongho : I'm sorry I'll try better-
Mingi : that's not what I'm trying to say jongho-ya. I'm saying you need to fix things with her so you can concentrate on work when you can.
Jongho : but that's exactly the reason why she left me, hyung. Because I concentrated too much on work.
Mingi : well if I were to have a partner who gave more importance to their work and other social events over me, I'd leave them too.
Jongho looked up at mingi as he stood up, patting jongho's shoulder before saying
Mingi : learn to balance, jongho. If you can't, then you're just going to have to lead a very miserable life.

2 days later :
Jongho walked towards the Han river bridge at 2 in the morning, his hands tucked deep inside his coat jacket as his eyes darted around the place aimlessly. He couldn't sleep, and he supposed getting fresh air would work. As he looked at the bridge a few meters away from him jongho suddenly thought of the time jieun had forced jongho to come along with her to this bridge a year ago, wanting to see the new year fireworks with him. Jongho had had a concert that same day and was too tired, but seeing jieun's excitement he couldn't refuse.
And then when jongho had seen jieun's eyes sparkling at every firework that burst in the sky, her giggles as the big clock strung 12, and the butterflies jongho had felt when jieun hugged him and wished him happy new year, it had made all his pain worth it. Jongho couldn't stand the next day, but even then he'd still have chosen to come to the bridge that day.
Now new year was a few months away from him, and he had no jieun to go along with him to the fireworks this time. But as jongho got on the bridge his eyes landed on a figure that was leaning against the railing, having a sip of a convenience store-bought banana milk.
Jongho : jieun?
Jieun quickly turned around at that voice, her eyes growing distant at the sight of her ex-boyfriend in front of her. Of course, looking tired as always.
Jieun : yes.
Jongho : what are you doing here so late?
Jieun : why does it matter to you?
Jongho : because this is dangerous, jieun. Someone could do something to you-
Jieun : look around, jongho, there's people all around us. No one's going to do anything to me. Now leave me alone.
Jongho : I'm sorry.
Jieun said nothing, turning back around to face the water as she took another sip of the banana milk.
Jongho : we could try again, jieun. I could try to be better-
Jieun : I already gave you that chance, jongho. Countless times I did and yet you kept going back to what you were before. I'm not going through this shit again.
Jongho : but we love each other, jieun-ah. Isn't this what we do?
Jieun scoffed, shaking her head as she said
Jieun : that is old news, jongho. We don't love each other anymore.
Jongho : I do.
Jieun : well then it's too late.
Jieun threw the empty banana milk carton to the trash before saying
Jieun : because I don't.
Jieun turned around as she gave jongho one last look before walking past him. And jongho could only stare at her disappearing figure, small tears in his eyes. He was right after all, she didn’t love him anymore.
__________________________
Jieun came back home the next evening after a day of work at the city corporation where she'd worked before jongho, feeling like she wanted to just lie somewhere on the floor in her apartment and sleep. But just as she was about to walk past the security gate a man rushed up to her with a boquet of flowers, making jieun frown as she asked
Jieun : ahjussi?
??? : this is for you, jieun-shi. A handsome young man came by a few hours ago and asked me to give it to you when you came back.
Jieun let out a breath, realizing it was from jongho. Jieun smiled and took the flowers from the security before saying
Jieun : thank you so much, ahjussi.
Just as she was about to leave the security said
??? : the young man seems to be very much in love with you, miss. I had a lady too, once. The look in his eyes are the same as what I'd seen in my own decades ago. Love is pure, and eternal. Please don't give up on it.
Jieun smiled, taking a single flower out from the boquet before handing it out to the security as she said
Jieun : I'm sure she loved you as much as you loved her, ahjussi. And I'm sure she always will.
The security smiled, tears in his eyes as he took the flower from jieun's hand before whispering
??? : thank you, miss.
Jieun smiled, giving a small bow to the security before walking away. She looked at the boquet of flowers filled with blue roses and baby's breath, her favorite flowers. There was also a small note inside that read
"I'm sorry, I love you"
Jieun sighed, taking her phone out as she quickly texted jongho
Jieun : don't send me flowers again.
Jongho : no.
Jieun : what?
Jongho : I'm going to keep sending you flowers, jieun.
Jieun : I'll throw it away, in that case.
Jongho : then throw them away, that's not going to stop me anyway.
Jieun let out a groan, throwing her phone back into her bag as she stepped into the lift. Jieun knew there was no point in telling jongho, he wouldn't stop.

3 weeks later :
Seonghwa : jongho-ya?
Jongho looked up from his computer, his eyes falling onto a worried looking seonghwa as he said
Jongho : yes?
Seonghwa : the CEO wants to talk to you.
Jongho frowned, standing up as he said
Jongho : is something wrong?
Seonghwa : I think so?
Jongho sighed, nodding his head as he walked towards the CEO's room. As soon as he entered the man's eyes sharpened, motioning jongho to sit down on the sofa.
Jongho : is something wrong, sir?
??? : it's been a month, jongho. A month since you've been slacking on work. You're not the same as before, the dance tutors told me that you barely even attend classes anymore, and when I asked the producers they haven't gotten any new work from you either. And then I asked your manager, but he said you haven't had any promo shoots lately as well. So if not any of these, choi jongho, what else are you doing?
Jongho sighed, already having known he would have to face this someday soon. Between trying to make up to jieun by sending her gifts and flowers everyday, and trying to drown his feelings for her jongho had forgotten about work.
Jongho : I'm sorry, sir. I've just been a bit distracted-
??? : except we can't afford that from you, jongho. You're an idol for god's sake, start acting like it. The world tour is going to be scheduled next year and the group album is going to come out within due time. It's high time you start getting to work, or I'm afraid things are not going to end well for you.
Jongho nodded, his hands clenching against his shirt fabric as he said
Jongho : I'll get back to usual, sir, this won't happen again.
??? : it better not.
______________________
Jongho stumbled into the 8th floor of jieun's apartment, half drunk. He already knew jieun wouldn't let him in, but even then, he wanted to see her. He had had a bad day, and all he wanted was to see her face just once, or even hear her voice. Otherwise he was afraid he wouldn't be able to go any longer.
Jongho rang the doorbell of jieun's apartment, the door opening just slightly a few minutes later as jieun's sharp voice cut through the air
Jieun : what are you doing here?
Jongho smiled, leaning against the wall as he whispered
Jongho : I missed your voice, eunnie.
By the use of that nickname jieun had known jongho was drunk, and a drunk jongho was a vulnerable one. Jieun let out a breath as she said
Jieun : did you seriously have to get drunk like this? Couldn't you ask your manager to take you back home after you had alcohol, jongho?
Jongho : I am home, eunnie. You are my home, where else would I be.
Jieun closed her eyes, opening the door wider as jongho fell right into her arms, almost knocking her off of her feet.
Jieun : god you're heavy.
Jongho smiled as jieun closed the door behind them, dragging jongho's half-limp body to the couch before laying him down on it. Jongho stared up at jieun with heart eyes as she removed his shoes, keeping them away before putting his legs properly onto the couch.
Jieun : this is just for one night, because it's too late and I can't drive you back home and you're too drunk to be outside. Leave first thing tomorrow morning, you get me?
Jongho : you're being so cruel, jieun-ie. Do you really have to do this to me?
Jieun : you did this to yourself, jongho.
Jongho let out a shaky breath, holding his hand out for jieun to hold as he whispered
Jongho : won't you at least hold me?
Jieun looked at jongho's hand, not having it in her to hold it. Jongho inhaled shakily, small tears in his eyes as he said
Jongho : I missed you, jieun-ah. I missed you so much and I regret not having gone after you.
Jieun : and you realized that only after I left you, jongho?
Jongho lowered his hand back down, staring at jieun with hurt eyes as she sighed, throwing a blanket over jongho before saying
Jieun : I don't want to see you again like this, so don't let it happen.
Saying that jieun quickly walked away, tears in her own eyes. Jongho shut his eyes tightly as he felt jieun close the door behind her, tears streaming down his own cheeks as he mumbled
Jongho : but I love you.

The windows were fogged up, nothing but the overhead light illuminated the cramped space of the car. Rain drummed on the roof as silence settled, their breaths creating a misty veil on the windows. The tension in the air was palpable as they stared at each other.
In silence, neither of them threatening to say a word. Because they couldn’t. They didn’t know what to say to one another. The cool air made Y/N shiver as she pulled the blanket over her some more. His eyes stared at her, wanting to reach out and embrace her, but yet he knew she wouldn’t give him that satisfaction.
Y/N sighed, pulling the strings of the hoodie, his hoodie tighter, wanting to sink into the fabric and disappear from this awkward moment. Her eyes staring at the door handle, wanting to escape from the car. Yet she didn't want to go back to the house; her home wasn't safe. After what felt like hours, he finally spoke, “I can never make things right, can I?”
Rain continued to patter on the car's roof as the weight of his words hung heavy in the air. Y/N's gaze remained fixed on the door handle, her thoughts a swirl of conflicted emotions. She had rehearsed what she might say if this moment ever came, but now that it was here, the words escaped her.
“Is that why you brought me here?” She spoke, speaking bitterly as tears glistened in her eyes. He looked down, unable to meet her gaze, his jaw clenched as he struggled to find the right words. "No," he murmured, his voice barely audible over the rain.
A fragile silence settled once again, broken only by the sound of raindrops. Y/N wiped away a tear, her fingers trembling. “Then why? Why Jongho, huh?”
The tense atmosphere seemed to tighten with each passing moment, as if the rain outside mirrored the storm within. Jongho's shoulders sagged as he wrestled with his inner demons, struggling to put words to the turmoil he had caused. He took a deep breath, his gaze still averted, before finally raising his head to meet Y/N's eyes.
"Because I can't lose you, Y/N. Not again."
Y/N scoffed at his words, shaking her head in disbelief. "You can't lose me? Jongho, you had me. You've always had me." Jongho closed his eyes, the weight of her words heavy on his shoulders. He let out a shaky breath, a single tear sliding down his cheek. "I know. And I was a fool to let you go."
Jongho's voice broke, a raw pain etched into every syllable. His eyes opened, red and glistening, as he looked at Y/N, his gaze pleading. "Please, Y/N. Please forgive me. I know I don't deserve it, I know I've hurt you, but please. I can't lose you. Not again."
Y/N was frozen, unsure of what to say. She could feel the ache in his voice, the pain in his eyes. But she couldn't bring herself to forgive him. Not yet.
"Jongho, I’m leaving. I’m leaving Korea and going back home.” Y/N’s words felt like a slap to the face for Jongho. The rain seemed to intensify, echoing the turmoil in both their hearts. Jongho's eyes widened in shock, his breath catching as her words hung heavy in the air.
"Go home?," he whispered, his voice barely audible against the sound of the rain. "Y/N, your home is here. It’s always been here, with me."
Y/N turned her head away, her gaze fixed on the rain-streaked window. Her heart ached, torn between the desire to hold onto what they once had and the pain of the betrayal she had experienced.
“No, Jongho. Home. The United States, not Korea. How am I supposed to go back to the place that's hurt me so much?” Y/N's voice trembled as she struggled to hold back tears. She could feel the weight of her decision bearing down on her, but she knew that staying in Korea was no longer an option for her. “I only came here because of you! You and your dream of being an idol. And look where it got us. Maybe my parents were right? Maybe I should’ve known better than to follow you down this path."
Jongho's face contorted with a mix of pain and regret, his eyes reflecting the depth of his emotions. He reached out hesitantly, his hand hovering near Y/N's arm before he let it drop to his side. "Y/N, I never wanted to hurt you," he whispered, his voice heavy with remorse.
Y/N's shoulders shook as she wiped away a tear, her breathing ragged. "You never wanted to hurt me, but you did," she choked out, her voice cracking. “Maybe this isn’t what you need. Maybe I wasn’t what you needed.” Sliding off the ring she wore on her finger, she held it in her trembling hand. The raindrops seemed to amplify the heaviness of the moment, each drop echoing the ache in their hearts.
Jongho's gaze fixated on the ring, his eyes widening as he realized the gravity of her actions. "Y/N, no," he murmured, his voice a mixture of disbelief and desperation. "Don't take that off."
Y/N's tears fell freely now as she stared at the ring, her vision blurred. "This ring was a symbol, Jongho. A symbol of a day I couldn’t wait for. But that day will never come. That day I envisioned since I first met you is gone. I-I don’t think I can ever forgive you for ruining everything we had." Her words hung in the air, a mixture of sorrow, anger, and resignation.
Jongho's chest tightened as he watched the ring glisten in Y/N's hand. His heart ached, the weight of his mistakes crashing down upon him. He could feel the depth of her pain, the shattered dreams and broken promises. “Y/N-” He spoke, reaching out only for her to shake her head. “Jongho. Just take me home,” Y/N's voice was firm, her gaze resolute as she looked at Jongho. The rain continued to fall around them, its gentle rhythm contrasting with the storm raging within their hearts.
Jongho nodded, his heart heavy as he processed her words. He swallowed the lump in his throat, his voice soft and filled with regret. "Okay, Y/N. I'll take you home."
Without another word, he turned the key in the ignition and started the car. The engine roared to life, the sound filling the tense silence that enveloped them. As they began to drive, the rain-slicked streets outside seemed to mirror the tears that both Y/N and Jongho were holding back.
The journey back was marked by an unspoken tension, the weight of their shared history hanging heavily in the air. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, the distance between them growing with each mile they traveled.
Finally, they arrived at the place Y/N had once called home. Jongho parked the car and turned off the engine, but neither of them moved. The rain continued to fall, a quiet backdrop to the turmoil they were experiencing.
Y/N's grip tightened on the ring in her hand, her knuckles turning white. She looked at it for a moment, her heartache palpable, before grabbing Jongho’s hand and placing the ring in his palm. "G-give it to someone who actually deserves it." she whispered, her voice strained with emotion. Her words struck frustration deep within Jongho, a mix of regret and anger welling up. He stared at the ring in his hand, his finger closing up around the ring.
“You deserved it. You still do deserve it.” He spoke, his words surprising Y/N who looked at him with a mixture of surprise and confusion. Her tear-filled eyes met his gaze, searching for any trace of sincerity in his words.
Jongho's grip on the ring tightened, his knuckles turning white as he stared at it. "I messed up, Y/N. I can't change that," he admitted, his voice strained. "But I don't want this ring. I want you."
Y/N's heart wavered, torn between her lingering love for Jongho and the pain he had caused. She took a shaky breath, her voice trembling as she responded. "Forget about me, Jongho. Go back to living your life as an idol. Just forget about me.”
His eyes bore into hers, his gaze unwavering. "Don’t you think I would if I could? Once you leave do you think I’ll forget you? No, Y/N. I can't just forget you. You've been a part of my life that I can't erase, no matter how much I want to."
Y/N's tears fell freely as she looked into Jongho's eyes, her emotions in turmoil. "Jongho! Just forget me, please.” Her voice rang. Silence settled in the air making it tense. Jongho hadn’t uttered a word knowing that she was serious.
Jongho's gaze never wavered as he held the ring in his hand, a symbol of shattered dreams and broken promises. He took a deep breath, his voice heavy with a mixture of pain and determination. "Fine.” Those were the only words he spoke. Y/N felt a weight lift from her chest as she watched Jongho's lips form the single, heavy word. Her heart ached with a mixture of sorrow, longing, and a hint of relief. The rain outside seemed to echo the storm within as the world around them continued to move on, oblivious to the shattered pieces of their relationship.
Jongho's fingers clenched around the ring, his gaze never leaving Y/N's tear-filled eyes. The car's interior was filled with an unspoken intensity, a culmination of all the emotions they had both held back for far too long. His silence spoke volumes, a testament to the depth of his regret and the complexity of their shared history.
Y/N's hand trembled as she took a deep breath, reaching for the car door handle. She knew that stepping out of the car would mark the end of their chapter together. She hesitated for a moment, her gaze still locked onto Jongho's.
As she opened the door and stepped out into the rain, the cold droplets quickly soaked through her clothes. Y/N turned to face Jongho one last time, her heart heavy with the weight of their goodbye. The raindrops mingled with her tears, making it impossible to distinguish one from the other.
Jongho's eyes remained fixed on her, his grip on the ring tightening almost involuntarily. The car's interior suddenly felt empty without her presence, and the silence seemed to stretch on forever.
"Goodbye, Jongho," Y/N whispered, her voice barely audible above the sound of the rain. Her gaze held a mixture of pain and resolve as she started to walk away, each step taking her further from the life they had once shared.
Jongho watched her retreating figure, his heart aching as he felt the finality of her departure. He knew that he had hurt her deeply, that he had shattered their dreams together. The weight of his mistakes hung heavily on his shoulders, a burden that he would carry for a long time to come.
As Y/N's silhouette became smaller in the distance, Jongho finally allowed himself to release the grip on the ring. It’s once shining surface glistened briefly in the dim car interior. It stared back at almost judging him. Its beauty and purpose mocked him as rubbed over the words carved into the inside of it. ‘Mrs. Choi.” Your engagement ring. Yours nobody else.

Masterlist
On the island of Seagrove, YN was known as the pharmacist's daughter. Her days were spent behind the counter of her father’s small shop, nestled near the docks. With her sleeves rolled up and her hair tied back, she sorted herbs, prepared remedies, and greeted customers with a quiet confidence.
Her father often ventured into the wild parts of the island, gathering rare plants and ingredients, leaving YN to tend the store. Though young, she had learned much from him—how to grind herbs into powders, mix tinctures, and recognize the faintest symptoms of illness. To the townsfolk, she wasn’t just a girl helping her father; she was a steady hand they could rely on.
The shop itself was simple but full of life. Shelves lined with glass jars and wooden boxes gave the space a calming scent of lavender and eucalyptus. The faint hum of the bustling harbor outside mixed with the occasional jingle of the shop’s bell, marking each new customer’s arrival.
A few townsfolk trickled into the small shop as the morning sun cast golden light through the windows. YN greeted each one with a warm smile that seemed to brighten the entire room.
“Good morning, Mr. Harris!” she chimed as an elderly fisherman stepped inside, clutching his back. “Here for the ointment again?”
“Aye, lass. This old spine of mine doesn’t let me forget it,” he grumbled, though his face softened at her cheerful demeanor.
YN bustled behind the counter, quickly grabbing a small jar of salve. “This should help, just like before! And don’t forget to warm it a little before applying—it works better that way,” she reminded him with a wink.
As he handed over a few coins, another customer entered—a young mother with a baby on her hip. “YN, do you have more of that chamomile tea? It’s the only thing helping my little one sleep these days.”
“Of course, I do!” YN said, her voice filled with enthusiasm. She fetched the tea leaves from a neatly labeled jar and handed them over. “Make sure to steep it for just a few minutes—too strong, and it might be a bit bitter.”
The mother smiled gratefully, the weight of her exhaustion easing just a bit under YN’s sunshine-like warmth.
One by one, people came and went, leaving the shop not just with their medicines but with lighter hearts. YN’s genuine kindness and optimism were infectious, and her presence made the small shop a place of comfort for everyone who stepped through its doors.
Every day, YN spent her hours in the shop, tending to customers with her signature warmth and energy. From sunrise until late afternoon, she ground herbs, mixed tinctures, and offered advice to anyone who came through the door. Her genuine care for others made her beloved in the town of Seagrove.
The shop’s bell jingled throughout the day, announcing each visitor. Sometimes it was a sailor seeking relief for a sore shoulder, or a mother in need of remedies for her child’s fever. YN treated them all with the same unwavering kindness, her cheerful voice and bright smile a constant in their lives.
When the day quieted, YN carefully closed the shop, counting the coins she had earned and tucking them into a small leather pouch. Slinging her basket over her arm, she walked the familiar cobblestone streets back to her home, greeting everyone along the way.
“YN! Thank you for the tea yesterday—it worked wonders!” called a baker as she passed by.
“Anytime! Let me know if you need more,” YN replied, waving with a grin.
The townsfolk adored her. To them, YN wasn’t just the pharmacist’s daughter—she was the heart of their little island, always ready to brighten someone’s day. As she reached her modest home, the warm glow of lantern light spilling from the windows, YN felt content. She had done her part for her community, as she did every day.
Aboard the Halazia, the sea stretched endlessly around the sleek black ship as it cut through the waves like a predator on the hunt. The crew was busy at work, each man fulfilling his role with precision honed through years of sailing under Captain Hongjoong’s command.
On the quarterdeck, Hongjoong stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his sharp eyes fixed on the horizon. His captain's coat billowed in the salty breeze, and a faint smirk played on his lips. “How much longer, Navigator?” he called without turning his head.
“Two hours at most, Captain,” Yunho replied from the helm, his hands steady on the wheel. His calm demeanor matched his confidence in guiding the Halazia through the labyrinth of islands and open waters.
Below deck, Yeosang organized his medical supplies in the dimly lit infirmary. The ship’s rocking didn’t bother him as he meticulously sharpened his tools and checked the cleanliness of bandages. He always prepared for the worst—life aboard a pirate ship demanded it.
Meanwhile, San was in the armory, inspecting the blades and sharpening the cutlasses. His focus was intense, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous energy. As the battle master, he made sure that every weapon on board was in top condition.
On the main deck, Mingi oversaw the crew, his booming voice carrying over the sound of the waves. “Secure those ropes properly! I don’t want to see slack before the next storm!” His role as boatswain made him responsible for the ship’s upkeep, and he took it seriously.
Wooyoung emerged from the galley with a knife in one hand and a basket of freshly cut fruit in the other. “Anyone hungry? I’m not making this twice!” he called out, his mischievous grin suggesting he’d already eaten more than his share.
Down by the cannons, Jongho stood inspecting the weapons that were his pride and responsibility. He ran his hands over the barrels, checking for cracks or defects, and tested the ammunition. Each cannon was polished and ready to fire at a moment’s notice.
Above them all, Seonghwa moved seamlessly between tasks, keeping the crew in line and ensuring the captain’s orders were carried out. As quartermaster and first mate, he was Hongjoong’s right hand and the ship’s enforcer. His sharp gaze missed nothing.
The Halazia wasn’t just a ship; it was a well-oiled machine, and its crew was a family forged by countless battles and storms. Today, however, their mission had a specific target—the peaceful island of Seagrove.
The island of Seagrove had always been a neutral land, a safe harbor for travelers, traders, and even the occasional pirate crew. Its position in the Azure Archipelago made it an essential stop for ships to restock supplies and repair damages, but the island’s policy of neutrality demanded careful diplomacy.
When the Halazia docked at Seagrove, the townsfolk took notice immediately. The sight of its dark sails and ominous figurehead was enough to send a ripple of unease through the streets. While it wasn’t unusual for the infamous crew to stop by, the knowledge of their ruthless reputation made the air feel heavy.
“Looks like the Halazia is back,” muttered an old fisherman, his eyes narrowing as he watched the crew disembark.
“Better keep your heads down,” his companion whispered. “They may not cause trouble, but it doesn’t mean they won’t if given a reason.”
The townspeople moved cautiously, their smiles forced and voices hushed. They weren’t hostile, but they walked on eggshells around the crew, offering a nervous politeness that thinly veiled their fear.
The crew of the Halazia, however, carried themselves with practiced nonchalance. They strode through the cobblestone streets as though they owned them, their weapons gleaming in the sunlight and their gazes sharp.
“Do you think they’re just here to restock?” a shopkeeper murmured.
“They always are,” another replied. “But you never know with pirates. Best to stay out of their way.”
Even as the Halazia crew wandered the town, visiting taverns or inspecting the market stalls, the people of Seagrove remained wary. Neutral land or not, the presence of the crew was enough to keep everyone on edge.
The Halazia crew spread across Seagrove, blending into the island’s usual bustle, though their presence kept the townsfolk on alert. Conversations among the crew were as varied as their personalities, with each man displaying his unique quirks.
In the marketplace, Wooyoung strolled between the stalls, his sharp eyes scanning the goods. He held up a peculiar-looking fruit, turning it in his hands.
“Think this is edible?” he asked, tossing it to Mingi, who had wandered over.
Mingi caught it effortlessly, giving the fruit a skeptical glance. “Edible, sure. But are you willing to test it first?”
Wooyoung grinned. “I’ll pass. Maybe I’ll give it to Yunho—he’s got the stomach for weird stuff.”
Nearby, Yunho overheard and called out, “Don’t think I didn’t hear that, Wooyoung! You’re not slipping anything strange into my food again!”
Wooyoung shrugged innocently. “Last time it was harmless! How was I supposed to know it’d turn your tongue blue?”
Down at the docks, Jongho was inspecting a stack of cannonballs that had just been unloaded from the ship. San leaned against a post nearby, watching him with a smirk.
“You check those like they’re treasure,” San teased.
“They might as well be,” Jongho replied, not looking up. “A bad cannonball could cost us a fight. I’m not taking chances.”
San crossed his arms. “You’re too serious. Maybe you should come spar with me later. Get rid of some of that tension.”
Jongho raised an eyebrow, finally meeting San’s gaze. “Spar? With you? You just want an excuse to show off.”
San grinned wider. “Maybe. But if you’re scared, just say so.”
“Sure.” Jongho rolled his eyes but didn’t rise to the bait.
In a quiet corner of the town square, Seonghwa and Hongjoong stood under the shade of an awning, observing the crew as they mingled with the townsfolk.
“They’re behaving themselves,” Seonghwa said, his tone neutral.
Hongjoong smirked. “As they should. We don’t need unnecessary trouble here.”
Seonghwa glanced sideways at his captain. “You say that now, but when have we ever left Seagrove without some kind of incident?”
Hongjoong chuckled. “Fair point. Let’s hope this time is different.”
In the shaded alleyway near the market, Yeosang stood at a herbalist’s stall, quietly inspecting bundles of dried plants. His sharp eye quickly sorted the useful from the unnecessary.
“These are poorly dried,” he remarked, holding up a brittle bundle of valerian root.
The herbalist, a wiry older man, looked startled. “I—I’m sorry, sir, but that’s all I’ve got right now.”
Yeosang sighed softly, placing the bundle back. “I need quality. If it crumbles before it’s used, it’s worthless.”
From behind him, Yunho approached with an easy grin. “Always so picky, Yeosang. It’s like you expect perfect conditions out here in the middle of nowhere.”
Yeosang didn’t glance back, his hands moving to inspect another jar. “A surgeon doesn’t get second chances, Yunho. The better my supplies, the better I can keep the rest of you alive.”
Yunho leaned against the stall, arms crossed. “Fair point. Still, you could try to lighten up a bit. It’s not all life and death.”
Yeosang turned to him, an unreadable expression on his face. “For you, maybe.”
Meanwhile, Wooyoung spotted Yeosang as he walked away from the stall. “Hey, doc!” he called out, jogging to catch up.
“What is it, Wooyoung?” Yeosang asked, his tone even.
Wooyoung waved a bright yellow fruit in front of him. “You think this could kill someone if I cook it wrong? Or should I give it to the captain and find out?”
Yeosang raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “It’s a mango, Wooyoung. Unless you’re planning to drop it on his head, I doubt it’ll harm anyone.”
Wooyoung grinned. “Good to know! Maybe I’ll add it to dinner tonight. Think the captain likes tropical flavors?”
“I think the captain has more pressing concerns than your culinary experiments,” Yeosang replied, though a small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he walked away.
In the distance, Hongjoong watched the exchanges with quiet amusement. Seonghwa, standing beside him, noticed his expression.
“Just as I thought they were behaving. They’re restless,” Seonghwa remarked.
Hongjoong nodded. “Let them stretch their legs. We’ll need them sharp soon enough.”
Seonghwa tilted his head. “And where does that leave us?”
Hongjoong’s gaze drifted toward the apothecary shop again. “For now? Let them play. But keep an eye on Yeosang. He always finds trouble where no one else is looking.”
Seonghwa chuckled. “That’s because he’s too clever for his own good.”
Hongjoong stood at the edge of the marketplace, his sharp gaze fixed on a small shop nestled between two larger buildings. The apothecary. It wasn’t his first visit, though his trips there were rare and purposeful. The shopkeeper had proven useful in the past, supplying him with everything he needed, no questions asked.
He turned to Wooyoung, who was busy juggling a few apples he’d “borrowed” from a stall.
“Wooyoung,” Hongjoong called, his voice firm.
Wooyoung caught the apples mid-air and grinned. “Yes, Captain? Need me to charm someone, or are we raiding the tavern early?”
Hongjoong smirked. “Neither. You’re coming with me to the apothecary. I need someone to carry what I buy.”
Wooyoung pouted dramatically, tossing one of the apples back into a basket. “What, I’m just your pack mule now?”
“Call it an extension of your scavenger duties,” Hongjoong replied, already heading toward the shop.
Wooyoung sighed, but his grin quickly returned as he jogged to catch up. “Fine, fine. But if they’ve got anything interesting, I’m keeping it.”
The bell above the door jingled as they stepped into the apothecary. The air inside was heavy with the earthy scent of dried herbs and freshly ground powders. Shelves lined every wall, filled with jars, bottles, and bundles of various remedies and ingredients.
YN stood behind the counter, her hands busy organizing a set of vials. She looked up at the sound of the bell and froze for a moment. It wasn’t every day the captain of the Halazia walked into her shop.
Hongjoong’s sharp eyes scanned the room before landing on her. He stepped forward, his coat swaying slightly. “You’re the pharmacist’s daughter,” he said, more a statement than a question.
YN straightened, her sunshine-like demeanor returning despite the intimidating presence before her. “That’s right. My father’s away, but I can help you. What do you need?”
Wooyoung leaned against the counter with a grin, glancing around the shop. “This place smells great. Got anything fun for a bored pirate like me?”
YN raised an eyebrow, but before she could reply, Hongjoong spoke. “Focus, Wooyoung.” He turned back to YN. “I need these.” He handed over a neatly folded piece of parchment with a list of items.
YN took it, her eyes scanning the list. Some of the ingredients were rare, but she recognized most of them. “I should have everything you need. Give me a moment.”
As YN moved around the shop, gathering items, Wooyoung leaned closer to Hongjoong and whispered, “She’s surprisingly cheerful for someone dealing with us.”
Hongjoong smirked but said nothing, his eyes following YN as she worked efficiently, placing jars and packets on the counter.
When she returned, she began explaining each item. “This powder needs to stay dry, and the tincture should be kept cool. And this—” she paused, holding up a small vial, “—is very potent. Use it sparingly.”
Hongjoong nodded, impressed by her knowledge. “You know your trade well.”
YN smiled warmly. “It’s my job.”
Once everything was packed, Wooyoung grabbed the bundle, pretending to stagger under its weight. “Oh no, Captain, it’s so heavy! What if I collapse under the strain?”
YN stifled a laugh, while Hongjoong rolled his eyes. “Stop complaining, or I’ll make you carry more.”
As they turned to leave, Hongjoong paused at the door, glancing back at YN. “Tell your father our deal still stands. I’ll be back when I need more.”
Just as Hongjoong and Wooyoung stepped toward the door, YN's curiosity got the better of her. She cleared her throat and asked, “What deal?”
Hongjoong stopped mid-step but didn’t turn around immediately. Wooyoung, on the other hand, raised an eyebrow and shot YN an amused look. “Curious, aren’t we?” he teased, leaning against the counter again.
Hongjoong slowly turned to face her, his expression unreadable but his eyes sharp. “Your father and I have... an understanding. He provides certain items I need, no questions asked. In return, I ensure that no harm ever comes to this shop or your family. A fair trade, wouldn’t you say?”
YN blinked, trying to process his words. “So, you’re protecting us? That’s what this is about?”
Hongjoong’s lips curved into a faint smirk. “You could say that. But don’t mistake it for charity. It’s business.”
Wooyoung chimed in, his tone light but with an edge of truth. “Think of it as an investment. The captain doesn’t waste time on things—or people—that aren’t worth it.”
YN frowned slightly, crossing her arms. “We don’t need protection. Seagrove is neutral ground.”
Hongjoong stepped closer, his voice dropping just enough to be serious but not threatening. “Neutrality doesn’t stop trouble from finding its way here. Pirates, mercenaries, kingdoms—they don’t care about rules when desperation strikes. Your father knows this. That’s why he agreed to our deal.”
YN held his gaze, feeling a mix of defiance and unease. She wanted to argue but couldn’t deny the truth in his words. “Fine,” she said, her voice steady. “But if this is about protection, it works both ways. You might find yourselves needing supplies when no one else will sell to you.”
Hongjoong’s smirk deepened, his eyes glinting with approval. “Smart girl. Your father taught you well.”
With that, he turned and pushed the door open. Wooyoung gave YN one last playful wink as he followed the captain. “See you around, sunshine,” he said before the door closed behind them, leaving YN standing there with a mixture of curiosity and newfound wariness.
She looked down at the counter where the parchment list lay. Her fingers brushed against it as her mind raced with questions. Whatever deal her father had struck with the Halazia crew, it was clear this wasn’t just a simple exchange of goods.
After the encounter at the apothecary, Wooyoung couldn’t help but find his thoughts drifting back to YN. There was something about her—a bright, carefree energy that contrasted so sharply with the rough, unpredictable life aboard the Halazia. Her genuine warmth had lingered in his mind longer than he expected, and before he realized it, he found himself making excuses to return to the shop.
A few days later, the bell above the apothecary’s door jingled again. YN looked up from where she was sorting herbs, her face lighting up when she saw Wooyoung standing there, leaning casually against the doorframe with his usual mischievous grin.
“You again,” she said, her tone teasing but friendly. “Didn’t you stock up enough last time?”
Wooyoung shrugged, stepping further inside. “Captain wanted to make sure we didn’t miss anything important. And, well...” He paused, picking up a small jar of dried lavender from a shelf and inspecting it idly. “I thought I’d keep you company. Can’t have you getting bored all alone in here.”
YN laughed, a bright, cheerful sound that filled the small shop. “Bored? Hardly. This place is always busy. Besides, I’m pretty sure pirates don’t come back just to check on someone.”
Wooyoung placed the jar back and leaned on the counter, his grin never fading. “Maybe not, but I’m not like most pirates.”
YN raised an eyebrow, her hands moving automatically as she arranged some vials. “Oh? So what makes you different, Mister Pirate?”
He smirked, resting his chin on his hand. “Well, for one, I appreciate good company. And two...” He trailed off, letting her fill in the rest.
Despite her initial resolve not to get too involved with the Halazia crew, YN found herself smiling. His playful energy was contagious, and she couldn’t help but be drawn into the banter. “You’re smooth, I’ll give you that,” she said, shaking her head.
Wooyoung chuckled. “Smooth enough to get a discount?”
She laughed again. “Not a chance.”
Over the next few weeks, Wooyoung started appearing more frequently. Sometimes he claimed he was running errands for the crew; other times, he didn’t even bother with an excuse. Each visit felt a little more natural, as though he was slipping into the rhythm of her world.
At first, YN kept her guard up. She reminded herself that he was a pirate, part of a crew that carried a reputation for chaos. But Wooyoung’s charm was disarming, and her naturally talkative, sunshine-like personality quickly overshadowed any hesitation.
He’d sit on a stool by the counter, chatting with her about everything and nothing. She’d tell him about the townsfolk, the busy days at the apothecary, and the little joys of living on Seagrove. In return, he’d share stories from the sea—some clearly exaggerated, others tinged with surprising honesty.
One day, as YN handed him a small satchel of herbs, she said with a grin, “You know, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you’re just here for the company.”
Wooyoung took the satchel, his smile softening. “Maybe I am. Got a problem with that?”
She shook her head, laughing. “Not really. Just don’t scare off my other customers, okay?”
Despite herself, YN found that Wooyoung’s presence didn’t feel like an intrusion. In fact, it felt oddly... comforting. And though Wooyoung never said it outright, he started looking forward to the quiet moments in the apothecary, away from the noise and chaos of life aboard the Halazia.
For now, neither of them thought too hard about what this strange, unexpected connection might mean. They simply enjoyed the moments they had, both of them quietly grateful for the fleeting peace they found in each other’s company.
Over time, Wooyoung became a regular sight in the apothecary. He would stroll in with his usual grin, plop himself onto the old wooden stool by the counter, and watch YN work.
At first, he was content just to chat, but as the days passed, he started offering to help.
“Here, let me do that,” he said one afternoon, stepping behind the counter and shooing YN away as she struggled with a particularly heavy crate of supplies.
She raised an eyebrow at him but stepped aside. “Are you sure you’re not just looking for an excuse to stick around?”
Wooyoung shot her a wink as he effortlessly lifted the crate onto a shelf. “What can I say? I’m a man of many talents.”
Soon enough, he became more than just a fixture in the shop. He started assisting her with customers, surprising her with how quickly he learned.
An older woman entered one day, asking for a salve for joint pain. Wooyoung, leaning casually on the counter, chimed in before YN could answet.
“Second shelf on the left,” he said, pointing. “Green jar with the brown lid. That’s the one you want.”
The woman looked at him, then at YN, who nodded in confirmation. “He’s right.”
The woman smiled and handed over her coins, muttering something about how “helpful young men” were hard to find.
After she left, YN crossed her arms and gave Wooyoung an appraising look. “You’re actually pretty good at this.”
He smirked. “Told you. Many talents.”
Not all of his interactions in the shop were so lighthearted, though. Occasionally, a customer would walk in with an attitude—someone trying to haggle too aggressively or speaking to YN with unnecessary harshness.
One such day, a burly man stormed in, slamming a few coins on the counter. “This isn’t enough,” he growled, pointing at a small pouch of medicine YN had just handed him. “You’re overcharging.”
YN opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, Wooyoung stood up from his stool and stepped forward, his usual playful demeanor replaced by something far more dangerous.
“She gave you the price,” Wooyoung said, his voice low and sharp. “Take it, or leave.”
The man turned to Wooyoung, clearly unimpressed. “And who do you think you are?”
Wooyoung’s grin returned, but this time it was anything but friendly. He leaned forward, his voice dropping even lower. “I’m someone you don’t want to mess with. Now, are you going to take the medicine and go, or should we make this... interesting?”
The man hesitated, clearly weighing his options. After a tense moment, he snatched the pouch from the counter and stormed out, muttering under his breath.
YN let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “You didn’t have to do that,” she said softly.
Wooyoung shrugged, sitting back on the stool and spinning it lazily. “Nobody talks to you like that while I’m here. That’s a rule.”
YN smiled despite herself. “I don’t know whether to thank you or scold you for almost starting a fight in my shop.”
Wooyoung grinned. “Thank me, obviously.”
And she did, though she didn’t say it out loud.
With each passing day, Wooyoung’s presence in the shop felt more natural, like he belonged there. The townsfolk began to notice, too, casting curious glances when they saw the pirate helping YN arrange shelves or handing a bag of herbs to a customer. Some whispered about it, others just smiled knowingly.
And though YN had told herself not to get too involved with the crew of Halazia, she couldn’t deny that having Wooyoung around made her days a little brighter—and a lot more entertaining.
It was an ordinary evening aboard the Halazia when Seonghwa walked into the captain’s quarters, a folded letter in his hand. His expression was calm, but there was an edge of seriousness that made Hongjoong look up from the maps spread across his desk.
“What is it?” Hongjoong asked, leaning back in his chair.
Seonghwa handed him the letter without a word. As Hongjoong unfolded it, his sharp eyes scanned the neatly written words. It was from the pharmacist on Seagrove, a message laced with urgency.
“They’re coming back,” Hongjoong muttered, reading aloud. “The same goons who wanted his land before. He says they’re planning to create trouble, maybe worse. He’s asking us to protect his daughter while he’s away.”
Seonghwa crossed his arms, nodding. “It seems they’re waiting for the perfect moment, knowing the island has no real enforcement.”
Hongjoong leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers against the table. His mind worked quickly, weighing the situation. The pharmacist had been a valuable ally, and they owed him for the resources he’d provided in the past. Letting this go unanswered would be a stain on their reputation—and, truthfully, Hongjoong didn’t enjoy leaving favors unpaid.
He looked up at Seonghwa. “We can’t ignore this. We’ll need to send someone to keep an eye on her.”
Before Seonghwa could respond, the door swung open, and Wooyoung strolled in, as casual as ever. “Someone say watch over her?” he asked, leaning against the doorframe with a knowing grin.
Hongjoong arched an eyebrow at him. “Eavesdropping now, are we?”
“Not eavesdropping. Just walking by,” Wooyoung said innocently, though his smirk betrayed him. “So, what’s the plan? I’m assuming it involves our little sunshine at the apothecary.”
Seonghwa sighed. “It’s serious, Wooyoung. The pharmacist says trouble’s coming her way, and she’ll need protection while he’s gone. This isn’t just a casual errand.”
Wooyoung’s grin faltered slightly, his playful demeanor softening. “I know that. And that’s why I’m volunteering.”
Hongjoong studied him for a moment, noticing the uncharacteristic determination in his eyes. “You’re volunteering? That’s a first.”
Wooyoung shrugged, though there was no hiding the slight tension in his posture. “She’s a good person, Captain. She doesn’t deserve to deal with scum like that. Besides, I’ve been spending the most time with her. Makes sense for me to step in.”
Hongjoong exchanged a glance with Seonghwa, who gave a small nod. Finally, the captain leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. “Fine. You’ll handle it. But keep a low profile—no unnecessary fights unless it’s unavoidable. And if you need backup, you call for us immediately.”
Wooyoung grinned, his confidence returning in full force. “You got it, Captain. Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
Later that evening, Wooyoung gathered a few essentials before heading toward the apothecary. As he walked through the dimly lit streets of Seagrove, his mind raced with thoughts of YN.
He didn’t know why, but the idea of something happening to her lit a fire in him that he couldn’t ignore. Maybe it was her kindness, her unshakable warmth, or the way she always smiled, even when dealing with stubborn customers. Whatever it was, he wasn’t about to let anyone take that away from her.
When he reached the shop, the bell jingled softly as he stepped inside. YN looked up from the counter, surprised to see him.
“Wooyoung? You’re back already?” she asked, a smile tugging at her lips.
He nodded, his usual playful grin softening into something more genuine. “Yeah. Looks like I’ll be sticking around for a while.”
Her brows furrowed slightly. “Why? What’s going on?”
Wooyoung hesitated for a moment before leaning against the counter, his voice gentle. “Your dad sent us a letter. Said some people might cause trouble while he’s gone. So... I’m here to make sure they don’t.”
The morning sun bathed Seagrove in a warm glow as YN stepped out of the apothecary with a basket in hand, ready to run her errands. She hummed softly to herself as she walked down the cobblestone streets, her mind focused on the list of things she needed.
But she wasn’t alone.
Though his footsteps were silent and his movements careful, YN could feel the weight of a gaze following her. She smirked to herself, pretending not to notice as she turned a corner, heading toward a quieter part of town.
When the street became deserted, she abruptly stopped and turned around, catching Wooyoung mid-step. He froze like a child caught sneaking sweets, his wide eyes meeting hers.
“So,” YN began, tilting her head and walking backward to keep her eyes on him. “You’re basically a bodyguard now?”
Wooyoung let out a small sigh, shaking his head as he caught up to her. “Careful, you’ll trip if you keep walking like that,” he said, his tone light but protective.
“I’m serious,” she pressed, ignoring his warning. “Isn’t this what bodyguards do? Follow people around, stay hidden, and swoop in dramatically when there’s trouble?”
Wooyoung chuckled, crossing his arms as he walked beside her. “Something like that. But I wouldn’t call myself a bodyguard. More like a... pirate with a purpose.”
YN laughed at that, the sound echoing through the quiet street. “A pirate with a purpose? That sounds so noble for someone like you.”
“Hey,” he said, feigning offense. “I’m plenty noble when I need to be. Like right now. I’m literally protecting you.”
“From what?” she asked, her voice full of innocent curiosity. “There’s no one around.”
Wooyoung glanced around, his eyes scanning the surroundings instinctively. “You’d be surprised. Trouble doesn’t announce itself, you know. One second everything’s fine, and the next... well, it’s not.”
YN stopped walking backward and faced him fully, her brow furrowed. “You really think something’s going to happen?”
Wooyoung’s expression softened, and he shrugged. “Maybe, maybe not. But your dad was worried enough to ask for help, and I’m not taking any chances.”
She blinked, surprised by the sincerity in his tone. For all his jokes and playful attitude, there was something reassuring about knowing he took her safety seriously.
“So... what do I call you now? Protector Wooyoung? Sir Wooyoung?” she teased, a playful glint in her eyes.
He rolled his eyes, though a smile tugged at his lips. “Just Wooyoung is fine, sunshine. Now, can we please focus on where you’re walking? If you trip, I’m not carrying you back.”
YN laughed again and turned to continue her errands, her steps lighter than before. Despite the strangeness of being followed, she couldn’t help but feel a small sense of comfort knowing that, no matter what, Wooyoung was there.
A few days passed without incident, though the air felt charged, as if something unseen was brewing. YN went about her routine with Wooyoung never far behind, always lurking in the background or perched casually on her shop’s stool, keeping watch.
But then, late one night aboard the Halazia, a lowly pirate messenger arrived with urgent news.
Hongjoong sat in his quarters with Seonghwa when the messenger was brought in. The scruffy man, clearly uneasy in the presence of the infamous captain, fumbled with his words but got the message across clearly:
“The goons you’ve been watchin’ out for... they’re plannin’ to hit the apothecary. Heard it straight from one of their lot.”
Hongjoong’s face darkened as he leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers. “When?”
“Soon,” the messenger replied. “Could be tonight, could be tomorrow. They’re waitin’ for the right moment.”
Hongjoong dismissed the man and turned to Seonghwa, who stood silently by his side. “We can’t risk it,” the captain said. “The girl’s too vulnerable in the shop. Wooyoung needs to bring her here—now.”
Seonghwa nodded. “I’ll send the word.”
At the apothecary, YN was cleaning up for the night when Wooyoung walked in, his expression unusually serious.
She glanced up at him and immediately noticed the shift in his demeanor. “What’s wrong?” she asked, setting down the jar she was holding.
“We need to leave,” Wooyoung said, his voice firm but calm.
Her brow furrowed. “Leave? Why? What’s going on?”
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “The goons your dad was worried about... they’re planning to attack the shop. Captain’s orders are to get you to the ship where you’ll be safe.”
YN’s eyes widened. “The ship? Halazia? You can’t be serious.”
“I’m dead serious,” Wooyoung said, stepping closer. “It’s not safe here, YN. I can protect you better if you’re with us.”
She hesitated, looking around the shop she’d grown up in. “But... what about the store? What about my father’s work?”
Wooyoung softened, placing a hand on her shoulder. “We’ll make sure nothing happens to it. But right now, you’re what matters. We can’t replace you, sunshine.”
Her heart skipped at the unexpected tenderness in his words, but the gravity of the situation quickly pulled her back. She nodded, her resolve hardening.
“Alright,” she said, her voice steady despite the fear creeping in. “Let me grab a few things.”
Wooyoung watched as YN quickly packed a small bag with essentials—some clothes, a few jars of medicine, and a small book she seemed hesitant to leave behind.
As they stepped out into the cool night, Wooyoung’s eyes scanned their surroundings, his hand resting on the hilt of his dagger. The streets were quiet, but he knew better than to trust the stillness.
“Stay close,” he whispered, his voice low but firm.
YN nodded, clutching her bag tightly as they made their way through the town toward the docks.
The journey felt longer than it should have, every shadow and faint sound putting them both on edge. But eventually, the silhouette of the Halazia came into view, its sails swaying gently in the night breeze.
As they approached the gangplank, Wooyoung turned to YN, his usual grin making a rare appearance despite the tension. “Welcome to the Halazia, sunshine. You’re about to meet the best—and most chaotic—crew in the seven seas.”
As soon as YN stepped onto the deck of the Halazia, she froze, her wide eyes taking in the sheer majesty of the pirate ship. The towering masts, the intricate ropes, and the faint smell of saltwater mixed with wood—it all felt surreal, like she’d stumbled into one of her dreams.
Her fear of ships and the open sea had always held her back from venturing onto one, but now, standing here, it felt like that fear had melted away, replaced by pure wonder.
“This is... amazing,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the gentle creaking of the ship.
Wooyoung, who had been following her with her bag slung over his shoulder, smirked as he watched her light up like a child discovering a new world. “You act like you’ve never seen a ship before,” he teased, though his tone was soft.
“I haven’t,” YN admitted, turning to him with an excited grin. “Not like this! I mean, I’ve seen them from the shore, but actually being on one? It’s completely different!”
She wandered across the deck, her fingers brushing against the railings and ropes, her eyes darting to every detail—the cannons lined up neatly, the sturdy wheel, and the faint reflection of the moonlight on the water below.
“This is incredible,” she said again, more to herself than to Wooyoung. “I never thought I’d actually step foot on a ship.”
Wooyoung chuckled as he trailed behind her, carrying her things without complaint. “Well, you’re lucky this isn’t just any ship. You’re standing on the Halazia, the finest vessel on the seas.”
YN turned to him, her eyes sparkling. “The finest, huh? You don’t seem very humble about it.”
“Why should I be?” he said with a grin, leaning casually against a mast. “The Halazia deserves to be shown off. Just like me.”
YN rolled her eyes but couldn’t help laughing. She turned her attention back to the ship, climbing a few steps to the raised quarterdeck and looking out over the bow. The gentle rocking of the ship made her heart race, but it wasn’t fear—it was exhilaration.
“You look like a kid in a candy shop,” Wooyoung said, his voice carrying a mix of amusement and fondness as he watched her.
She spun around, leaning against the railing with a bright smile. “I feel like one. This is so much better than I imagined.”
Wooyoung’s smirk softened into something more genuine as he watched her. He wasn’t sure what it was about her—maybe the way her excitement was so contagious, or the way her wide eyes seemed to find magic in everything—but seeing her like this made him forget, even for a moment, the dangers that had brought her here.
“Alright, sunshine,” he said, breaking the moment. “As much as I’d love to let you explore all night, you’ll need some rest. The captain will want to speak with you in the morning.”
YN nodded, reluctantly tearing herself away from the view. “Okay, fine. But I’m not done exploring. You’ll have to show me everything tomorrow.”
Wooyoung laughed. “Deal. But for now, let me show you where you’ll be sleeping. Come on.”
He led her below deck, still carrying her things as she followed him with the same wide-eyed wonder. And though the weight of what lay ahead lingered in the back of his mind, Wooyoung found himself smiling, content in the moment.
When Wooyoung led YN to a small cabin below deck, she stepped inside and immediately felt the silence pressing in around her. The cozy space was nothing like her home, with its small wooden bed, a lantern casting soft light, and the faint creaking of the ship filling the air.
“Here you go,” Wooyoung said, setting her bag down by the bed. “It’s not much, but it’s cozy enough. You’ll be safe here.”
YN nodded, clutching her arms tightly. “Yeah… it’s nice.” But her voice wavered slightly, betraying her unease.
Wooyoung raised an eyebrow, noticing the way her eyes darted around the room and how she hesitated to step further in. “Something wrong?” he asked, leaning casually against the doorframe.
She shook her head quickly, forcing a smile. “No, no, it’s fine. I’m just… not used to being alone, that’s all.”
His smirk faded as he studied her. “You’re scared, aren’t you?”
Her shoulders slumped, and she let out a small sigh. “A little. Back home, I always stayed with my aunt when my dad wasn’t around. I’ve never really been by myself at night. It’s… it’s just something I’m not used to.”
Wooyoung frowned, leaning in the doorway with his arms crossed. He could see the fear in her eyes, the way she fidgeted nervously. It wasn’t something he was used to—seeing someone so openly vulnerable. Most people tried to hide their fears around pirates, but YN was an open book.
“You know,” he started, his voice softening, “I could always stick around for a bit. Keep you company until you fall asleep. That way, you’re not completely alone.”
YN’s eyes widened. “You’d do that?”
“Of course,” he said with a shrug, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “I’m your bodyguard, remember? Can’t let anything happen to you, even if it’s just a bad dream.”
A small smile tugged at her lips, and she nodded. “Okay. Just until I fall asleep.”
Wooyoung pulled a chair over and sat down near the bed, leaning back comfortably as YN hesitantly climbed under the blankets.
For a while, the only sound was the gentle creak of the ship and the distant crash of waves. YN lay on her side, her gaze fixed on Wooyoung, who seemed completely at ease, his legs stretched out and arms crossed behind his head.
“You’re really not going to leave, are you?” she asked quietly.
“Not until you’re out like a light,” he replied with a grin.
She chuckled softly, the sound easing some of the tension in the room. “Thank you, Wooyoung.”
“Anytime, sunshine,” he said, his voice dropping to a soothing tone.
Slowly, her eyes began to droop, the sound of the ship and the comforting presence of Wooyoung lulling her into a sense of safety she hadn’t expected to feel. And true to his word, he stayed right there, watching over her until her breathing evened out and she drifted into sleep.
The next morning, Wooyoung leaned against the doorframe of YN’s cabin, watching her stretch and yawn as she woke up. Her face was lit with the same cheerful glow he’d come to recognize, her fear from the night before seemingly forgotten.
“Morning, sunshine,” he greeted with a teasing grin. “Sleep well?”
YN sat up, her hair slightly messy, and nodded enthusiastically. “Like a baby. I guess ships aren’t so scary after all!”
He smirked, stepping aside to let her step out. “Told you you’d be fine. Now come on, let’s get some food. The others are already up.”
As they walked toward the breakfast hall, YN’s natural curiosity bubbled over. “So… aren’t you ever scared the ship’s going to sink?” she asked, tilting her head.
Wooyoung snorted, looking at her like she’d just said the most ridiculous thing. “Scared? Me? Sunshine, this ship is sturdier than a fortress. She’s not going anywhere.”
“But what if a giant wave crashes over it?” she asked, her eyes wide with imagined catastrophe.
“Then we ride the wave,” he answered smugly.
She hummed thoughtfully before hitting him with another question. “What if a whale bumps into it? Wouldn’t that cause trouble?”
He gave her an incredulous look. “A whale? Do you think whales just swim around bumping into ships for fun?”
She giggled, shrugging. “I don’t know! Maybe they’re curious.”
Wooyoung rolled his eyes, but the fond smile tugging at his lips gave him away. “Alright, sunshine, what’s next? Got any more doomsday scenarios for me?”
“Many. What about sharks? Aren’t you worried they’ll try to bite through the hull?”
Wooyoung stopped walking, staring at her for a moment before bursting into laughter. “Sharks, YN? Biting through the hull? What kind of stories has your dad been telling you?”
She shrugged with a playful pout. “I don’t know! I just thought… maybe it could happen!”
He shook his head, still grinning as they resumed walking. “I promise you, sharks don’t want to eat wood. You’re safe.”
“What about storms?” she asked next, her voice full of innocent curiosity. “Have you ever been caught in one? Like, a huge one that flips the ship upside down?”
Wooyoung gave her an exaggeratedly serious look. “Oh, sure, all the time. And we just flip her back over and keep sailing.”
YN gasped. “Really?!”
He laughed, ruffling her hair as they walked. “No, sunshine, not really. But we’ve weathered storms before. This ship’s been through it all.”
As they reached the breakfast hall, YN slowed down, looking up at him. “One more question,” she said, her tone quieter but still curious.
“Shoot,” he replied.
“Have you ever been scared on this ship?”
For a moment, Wooyoung paused, his grin fading into something softer. “Maybe once or twice,” he admitted. “But not because of the ship. Because of what might happen to the people on it.”
YN blinked, surprised by his honest answer, but before she could ask more, Wooyoung opened the door to the hall with a dramatic flourish.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced loudly, “the sunshine of the seas has arrived!”
As YN stepped into the breakfast hall, the chatter of the crew quieted, and all eyes turned toward her. Though most of their expressions were neutral or curious, the sheer presence of eight men in one room felt overwhelming. She froze for a moment, clutching Wooyoung’s shirt from behind like a lifeline.
Wooyoung glanced over his shoulder, noticing how she shrank behind him. He let out a soft laugh but didn’t comment, allowing her to use him as a shield.
“Don’t be shy,” he teased lightly, his tone warm. “They don’t bite. Well… maybe San does, but only if you get on his bad side.”
“Hey!” San called from across the room, earning a chuckle from the others.
Hongjoong, seated at the head of the table, gave her a reassuring smile. “Good morning, YN. Don’t let them intimidate you. They’re loud, but they’re harmless.”
She nodded shyly but didn’t let go of Wooyoung’s shirt. The rest of the crew exchanged glances, some amused, some curious.
“Alright, alright,” Wooyoung said, clapping his hands to break the awkward silence. “Let’s get the introductions out of the way so sunshine here can relax.”
He stepped aside, gently nudging YN forward, though she still kept close to him.
Hongjoong stood first, his presence commanding yet calm. “I’m Hongjoong, the captain of this ship. You’ll be safe here, YN. If there’s anything you need, let me know.”
Next was Seonghwa, who gave her a polite nod. “Seonghwa, the quartermaster and first mate. Welcome aboard.”
Yunho, the navigator, grinned warmly. “I’m Yunho. I make sure we don’t get lost. Nice to meet you, YN!”
Yeosang, the quiet surgeon, gave her a small smile. “Yeosang. If you ever get hurt, come to me.”
San leaned back in his chair, flashing a mischievous grin. “San, the battle master. Don’t worry, I only bite if provoked.”
Mingi, the boatswain, waved enthusiastically. “Mingi! I keep the ship in shape. You’re gonna love it here!”
Wooyoung gave her a playful nudge. “And you already know me, your personal bodyguard and scavenger extraordinaire.”
Finally, Jongho, the master gunner, nodded firmly. “Jongho. I handle the cannons. Welcome to the Halazia.”
The introductions helped ease her nerves, and soon enough, the crew’s warm smiles and lighthearted jokes began to make her feel more comfortable.
“Thank you,” she said softly, glancing around at the group. “It’s nice to meet all of you.”
“Now that we’ve got that out of the way,” Wooyoung said, guiding her to a seat at the table, “let’s eat. Sunshine needs to keep her energy up, after all.”
As the crew returned to their meals, YN slowly started to join the conversation, her natural warmth and curiosity shining through. By the end of breakfast, she wasn’t hiding behind Wooyoung anymore—instead, she was laughing along with the rest of the crew, feeling like she might actually belong.
After breakfast, Wooyoung led YN back out onto the deck. The crew had dispersed to their duties, leaving the ship relatively quiet. He decided it was the perfect time to give her a small tour—not of the whole ship, but just the places he knew she’d actually need.
“Alright, sunshine,” Wooyoung said, walking ahead of her with a slight bounce in his step. “Since you’ll be with us for a while, you should know your way around—at least enough so you don’t get lost.”
YN’s eyes sparkled with excitement, her earlier shyness completely replaced by her usual sunshine-like demeanor. “Okay! Show me everything!”
“Not everything,” he corrected with a chuckle. “Just the essentials. Come on.”
He started with the main deck, pointing out where the crew stored extra supplies and how to tell which ropes were safe to touch—“Don’t go pulling random ones unless you want to drop a sail on your head,” he teased.
YN followed closely, hanging on to every word he said, her excitement growing with every little thing he explained. She’d occasionally gasp or ask a question, her enthusiasm contagious.
“This is where the weapons are stored,” Wooyoung said, gesturing to a small hatch near the mast. “But you probably don’t need to mess with that. Leave the fighting to us.”
“Noted,” YN said with a grin. “No weapons for me. I’ll stick to not breaking anything.”
They moved below deck next, where Wooyoung showed her the mess hall, the kitchen (“Wooyoung’s kingdom,” as he called it), and a few storage rooms.
When they reached the small infirmary, YN gasped. “Oh, it’s so organized!”
“Yeosang keeps it that way,” Wooyoung said with a shrug. “Don’t mess with his stuff, though. He’ll know.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” she said, her eyes wide as she peeked inside.
Finally, Wooyoung led her back up to the quarterdeck, where the ship’s wheel stood. YN looked out over the vast ocean, the sun sparkling on the water like diamonds. Her grin grew even wider, and she spun around to face him, her hands outstretched.
“This is amazing, Wooyoung! I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like a whole new world!”
Wooyoung leaned against the railing, watching her with a soft smile. Her joy was so genuine, so unfiltered, that it tugged at something deep in his chest. He’d spent years on this ship, but he’d never seen it through someone else’s eyes like this.
“Glad you like it,” he said, his voice quieter than usual.
YN turned back to the ocean, leaning against the railing as the wind played with her hair. “I can’t believe I was scared of this. It’s beautiful.”
Wooyoung found himself staring, his heart doing something strange—something he didn’t quite understand. He’d been around plenty of people, but there was something about YN’s presence that felt… different.
Shaking off the thought, he smirked and nudged her lightly. “Well, sunshine, you’re part of it now. Welcome to the Halazia.”
She looked up at him with a radiant smile. “Thanks, Wooyoung. I think I’m going to like it here.”
He didn’t say anything, but as they stood there, watching the endless expanse of ocean together, he couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, he was starting to like it even more now too.
As they leaned against the railing, watching the endless stretch of blue, YN broke the comfortable silence with a quiet question.
“Are you scared of the ocean?”
Wooyoung glanced at her, slightly taken aback. “Why do you ask?”
She shrugged, her fingers lightly tracing the wood of the railing. “It’s just… it’s so big. And unknown. You don’t really know what’s down there. I’m scared of it. Always have been.”
Wooyoung’s gaze softened as he watched her. For all her bright and cheerful energy, there was a vulnerability in her words that struck him.
“I’m not scared of it,” he said after a moment. “But I get why someone might be.”
YN turned to look at him, her eyes searching his face. “You don’t think about it? How deep it goes? How it could just… swallow you up?”
Wooyoung chuckled softly, leaning his elbows on the railing. “I guess I’ve been around it so long, I don’t think about it that way anymore. The ocean’s unpredictable, sure, but it’s also… home. It’s dangerous, yeah, but it’s beautiful too.”
“Beautiful and dangerous,” she echoed, looking back at the waves. “I guess that makes sense.”
He glanced at her, his tone softening. “But it’s okay to be scared of it, you know. Everyone’s scared of something. The important thing is not letting it stop you from living.”
YN nodded slowly, his words sinking in. “I guess that’s why you’re here, huh? To make sure I don’t let my fear stop me?”
Wooyoung smirked, his usual teasing tone returning. “Exactly. Think of me as your very own fearless tour guide of the seas.”
She laughed, the sound light and free, and for a moment, her fear seemed to fade. “Thanks, Wooyoung. You’re not as scary as you pretend to be.”
“Don’t let the others hear you say that,” he said with a wink. “I have a reputation to maintain.”
YN smiled, her earlier worry replaced by warmth. Maybe the ocean was still scary, but with someone like Wooyoung by her side, it didn’t feel quite so overwhelming.
As the day passed, Wooyoung found himself growing increasingly aware of YN’s presence. Whether it was her soft laughter when she found something amusing, the way she tilted her head with curiosity at every little thing he showed her, or even the quiet moments when she was simply taking in the ship’s vastness—he couldn’t help but feel something stirring within him.
It wasn’t just her cheerfulness that got to him. It was the way she spoke with an honesty that seemed so rare, the way she made everything feel a little brighter, even in the vastness of the open sea.
At one point, YN was sitting on a crate near the mast, her feet swinging lightly as she hummed to herself. Wooyoung had been organizing some ropes nearby, but his hands slowed as he glanced over at her. She was just sitting there, doing nothing in particular, and yet he found himself staring.
What is wrong with me? he thought, shaking his head.
“Wooyoung?” her voice cut through his thoughts, and he turned to see her looking at him with her usual wide-eyed curiosity.
“Yeah?” he asked, quickly snapping out of his daze.
“Why are you staring at me?” she asked bluntly, tilting her head.
He blinked, caught off guard. “I wasn’t staring.”
She gave him a look that clearly said she didn’t believe him. “You totally were. Do I have something on my face?”
“No!” he said quickly, waving his hands. “I was just… lost in thought.”
“About what?”
“Stuff,” he replied vaguely, avoiding her gaze as he returned to the ropes.
She frowned a little but didn’t press him further. Instead, she hopped off the crate and walked over to him, standing by his side. “You’re weird,” she said with a laugh, nudging him lightly.
“Thanks, sunshine,” he muttered, though there was no bite in his tone.
As the day wore on, Wooyoung couldn’t shake the strange feeling. It wasn’t a bad feeling—just… unfamiliar. He found himself smiling more than usual, his mind wandering whenever she was near.
By the time the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Wooyoung was leaning against the railing, watching YN as she marveled at the view.
She turned to him, her face lit up with excitement. “Is it always this beautiful?”
He nodded slowly, though his eyes weren’t on the horizon—they were on her. “Yeah,” he said softly, his voice barely audible. “It is.”
And for the first time in a long while, Wooyoung found himself wondering if the ocean was truly the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
A few weeks had passed since YN stepped onto the Halazia, and in that time, the ship had somehow begun to feel like home to her. She leapt around the deck with her usual cheerful energy, helping wherever she could, whether it was Wooyoung in the kitchen, Yeosang in the infirmary, or even Seonghwa and Hongjoong with their work.
“Hold this for me, YN,” Seonghwa said one afternoon as he handed her a map while he adjusted the compass in his hand.
“Like this?” she asked, holding it up as if she were presenting a prized treasure.
Seonghwa chuckled. “Perfect.”
When she wasn’t assisting Seonghwa, she was often seen pestering Yeosang in the infirmary, her endless questions making him both amused and slightly exasperated.
“What does this do?” YN asked, pointing to a jar of some strange salve.
“It’s for burns,” Yeosang replied patiently, though he didn’t miss the way she scrunched her nose at the smell.
“That smells awful!” she exclaimed.
“It’s medicine,” Yeosang said with a small smile. “Not everything can smell like roses.”
She laughed and quickly moved on to the next question, her curiosity never-ending.
And then, of course, there was Wooyoung.
She spent the most time with him, naturally. Whether it was helping him in the kitchen or following him around during his scavenger tasks, she was always by his side, her bright personality lighting up even the dullest moments.
But for Wooyoung, those weeks had been… confusing.
The strange feeling he had whenever he looked at her had only grown stronger. It was there in the way his heart would skip when she laughed, or the way he’d find himself looking for her whenever she wasn’t around.
“Wooyoung!” YN called out one morning, snapping him out of his thoughts.
“Yeah?” he asked, turning to see her balancing on the railing, arms stretched out for balance.
“Look! I’m not scared anymore!” she said, beaming.
“Get down before you fall!” he scolded, rushing over to steady her.
She laughed, hopping down with ease. But not without Wooyoung holding onto her. “I wouldn’t have fallen. You’d catch me anyway, right?”
Wooyoung sighed, shaking his head, though there was a small smile on his lips. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re grumpy,” she shot back with a grin, poking his arm.
He rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the warmth that spread through him. She had that effect on everyone, he realized—not just him. She had somehow charmed the entire crew, even the usually reserved Yeosang and the ever-serious Seonghwa.
But for Wooyoung, it was different. The way he felt when she was near wasn’t just fondness or friendship. It was something more, something that made his chest tighten and his heart race.
And as he watched her skip off to bother Hongjoong about something, laughing and smiling as if the world was nothing but sunshine, Wooyoung realized he was in trouble.
Big trouble.
That night, like every other, YN was tucked into the small bed they’d arranged for her in one of the crew’s spare quarters. Wooyoung sat on the floor near the door, leaning back against the wooden wall, his legs stretched out comfortably. It had become their nightly routine—talking about anything and everything before she drifted off to sleep.
“Wooyoung,” she started, her voice soft and a little drowsy already, “why do you like being a pirate? Isn’t it scary, always running into danger?”
He chuckled, resting his head against the wall. “Nah. It’s what I’m good at. And besides, it’s exciting. Who doesn’t like a bit of adventure?”
She smiled faintly, her eyelids heavy but still determined to stay in the conversation. “I think it’s cool… but I’d be too scared to fight. I’d probably just hide behind you.”
“You already do that,” he teased with a grin.
“True,” she murmured with a sleepy laugh. “You’re good at making me feel safe, though.”
His heart clenched a little at her words, but he kept his tone light. “Of course I do. That’s my job, sunshine.”
For a while, they continued their usual back-and-forth, her words growing slower and quieter with each passing minute. Wooyoung found himself doing most of the talking, filling the silence as she nodded off.
Then, mid-sentence, he heard her breathing even out. He paused, looking over at her. She had fallen asleep while he was talking, her head resting on the pillow, her face peaceful and relaxed.
A soft smile spread across his lips as he watched her, the moonlight filtering through the small window casting a gentle glow on her features.
“She’s cute,” he muttered to himself before he could stop the thought.
It hit him then, like it had been building up for weeks and finally clicked into place—he was falling for her. Hard.
But Wooyoung knew one thing for sure: even if it was love, he wasn’t going to say anything. She was his friend, his sunshine in an otherwise stormy world, and the last thing he wanted was to burden her with his feelings. She had enough to worry about, and he wasn’t about to make things harder for her.
Instead, he sighed quietly, leaning his head back against the wall as he closed his eyes. If staying silent meant she could keep smiling and talking his ear off every night, then he’d take that. For now, just being close to her was enough.
Wooyoung stood up quietly, ready to leave her room and let her sleep peacefully like every other night. But as he turned to glance back at her one last time, something caught his eye.
Her blanket had slipped down, revealing her arms—usually hidden under long sleeves. He moved closer, intending to fix the blanket like he always did, making sure she was comfortable.
But then he saw it.
His breath hitched as his eyes fell on her wrists, faintly illuminated by the pale moonlight. There were marks and scars, some faint and others deeper, etched into her skin like silent memories of pain.
Wooyoung froze, his heart tightening painfully in his chest.
No… he thought, his mind racing. She’s always smiling. Always happy.
He couldn’t reconcile the sunshine YN he knew—the one who laughed at his jokes, who skipped around the ship with boundless energy, who asked him silly questions every day—with the person who bore these scars.
For a long moment, he just stood there, staring at her sleeping form. She looked so peaceful, so innocent, and yet those scars told a story he didn’t know—a story she had never shared with him.
He clenched his fists, a wave of emotions crashing over him. Anger, sadness, confusion. How could someone as bright as her carry so much pain? And why hadn’t she told anyone?
Wooyoung gently pulled the blanket back up, covering her arms again. His hand hovered for a moment before he stepped back, his movements slow and deliberate as if he might wake her.
He sat back down on the floor, his back against the wall, his thoughts a chaotic mess. He replayed every interaction they’d had, every laugh, every smile. Had he missed the signs? Had she been hiding this from everyone the whole time?
And yet, despite the questions and the pain in his chest, one thought rang louder than the rest.
I’ll protect her.
Whatever she had been through, whatever had caused those scars, Wooyoung silently vowed that she would never have to feel that kind of pain again. Not as long as he was around.
The morning came with the usual rhythm of life on the Halazia. The crew went about their tasks, the sounds of footsteps and distant laughter filling the ship. YN, as always, was a ball of energy. She skipped onto the deck, her bright smile lighting up the day as she greeted everyone she saw.
“Good morning, Wooyoung!” she called, waving cheerfully as she spotted him leaning against the railing.
He smiled back, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. Something had shifted within him since last night, and even though YN seemed like her usual, bubbly self, he couldn’t stop the protectiveness that now gnawed at his chest.
As she wandered off to help Yeosang in the infirmary, Wooyoung found himself watching her closely, more vigilant than ever. His heart felt heavier, knowing the scars she carried beneath her sunshine exterior. He couldn’t let this eat him up inside—it was too much.
Without thinking too much about it, he made his way to the captain’s quarters.
Hongjoong was seated at his desk, a map spread out before him as he carefully marked their next route. He glanced up when Wooyoung knocked and motioned for him to enter.
“What is it?” Hongjoong asked, leaning back in his chair as he crossed his arms.
Wooyoung hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to put his swirling thoughts into words. But this was Hongjoong—his captain, his guide, his second guardian. If there was anyone he could trust, it was him.
“It’s about YN,” Wooyoung began, closing the door behind him.
Hongjoong’s brow furrowed slightly. “What about her? Is she alright?”
“She is,” Wooyoung said quickly. “At least… I think she is. But…” He trailed off, running a hand through his hair.
“But what?” Hongjoong pressed, his tone serious now.
Wooyoung took a deep breath and looked down at the floor. “Last night, I… I saw something. She always wears long sleeves, and I never thought much of it, but her blanket slipped, and I saw her wrists.”
Hongjoong didn’t say anything, but the sharpness in his eyes told Wooyoung to continue.
“They’re scared,” Wooyoung said quietly. “Like… she’s been through something. Something bad. And she’s always smiling, always acting like she’s fine, but I don’t think she is, Captain. I don’t think she ever was.”
Hongjoong leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk as he processed Wooyoung’s words. “And you’re telling me this because…?”
“Because I don’t know what to do,” Wooyoung admitted, his voice almost breaking. “I want to protect her, but I don’t know if I’m doing enough. I don’t want her to feel like she’s alone. And—” He hesitated, swallowing hard before continuing. “I care about her, Captain. More than I probably should.”
For a moment, the room was silent, the weight of Wooyoung’s words hanging in the air.
Hongjoong studied him carefully, his expression unreadable. Then he sighed, leaning back in his chair. “Wooyoung, you’ve always been someone who cares deeply about the people around you. That’s one of your strengths. But you need to tread carefully here.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean,” Hongjoong said slowly, “that YN isn’t just anyone. She’s someone who’s clearly been hurt before, and if you push too hard or too fast, you might end up hurting her even more.”
Wooyoung nodded, his fists clenching at his sides. “I’d never hurt her.”
“I know you wouldn’t,” Hongjoong said, his tone softening. “But she might not be ready to talk about whatever’s happened to her. You have to be patient. Be there for her, but let her come to you when she’s ready.”
Wooyoung exhaled shakily, some of the tension leaving his shoulders. “I just… I hate the thought of her suffering alone.”
Hongjoong gave him a small, understanding smile. “You’re doing more for her than you realize, Wooyoung. Just keep being her friend, her safe place. That’s what she needs most right now.”
Wooyoung nodded again, his resolve strengthening. “Thank you, Captain.”
As he left the room, Wooyoung felt a little lighter, though his heart still ached for YN. He would take Hongjoong’s advice to heart. He would wait, be patient, and let her set the pace. But in the meantime, he’d keep being the one thing she could always count on: her protector, her friend, and her silent guardian.
Wooyoung stepped out onto the deck, the salty breeze ruffling his hair as his eyes scanned for YN. He spotted her near the railing with San and Jongho, her arms waving animatedly as she spoke. The two men stood there, half-amused, half-bewildered, listening to whatever silly tangent she was on this time.
“Wait, wait, let me get this straight,” San said, holding up a hand to stop her. “You’re asking me if a sword can cut through a cannonball?”
“Yeah!” YN exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “I mean, they’re both metal, right? So if you hit it hard enough…”
San burst into laughter, clutching his stomach. “You’ve been reading too many stories, kid.”
Jongho, who had been leaning against the railing, shook his head but couldn’t hide the faint smirk tugging at his lips. “Even the sharpest blade would shatter before it cut through solid iron.”
“Aw,” YN pouted, crossing her arms. “I thought pirates could do anything!”
San laughed harder, wiping a tear from his eye. “We’re not magicians, sunshine.”
Wooyoung stood off to the side, watching the scene unfold. A warm smile crept onto his face as he saw how easily YN interacted with them now. When she’d first come aboard, she’d been hesitant, hiding behind him whenever the others were around. But now, here she was, chatting away with San and Jongho like they’d known each other forever.
It felt good to see her like this—happy, carefree, and finally warming up to the crew.
“You’re really curious about everything, aren’t you?” Jongho said, his deep voice carrying a hint of amusement.
“Of course!” YN said brightly. “I’ve never been on a ship before, so I want to learn as much as I can. Like… do you guys ever get scared of storms? Or, oh! What happens if someone falls overboard? Do you just throw them a rope, or—”
“Whoa, slow down,” San said, holding up his hands. “One question at a time, sunshine!”
Wooyoung chuckled softly as he approached them, leaning casually against the mast. “Looks like you’ve been keeping my brothers busy.”
YN turned to him with a beaming smile. “Wooyoung! Did you know San once fought off five guys by himself?”
San puffed out his chest, clearly enjoying the attention. “It was six, actually.”
“Here we go,” Jongho muttered under his breath, rolling his eyes.
Wooyoung laughed, shaking his head. “Don’t let him fool you, YN. He probably tripped over a barrel and took them all down by accident.”
“Hey!” San protested, but YN was already giggling, her laughter light and infectious.
As they continued talking, Wooyoung couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. She wasn’t just his sunshine anymore—she was becoming theirs, too. And that made him happier than he could put into words.
The gentle sound of the waves lapping against the ship provided a soothing background as Wooyoung and YN sat on the deck. The sun was beginning to set, casting the sky in shades of orange and pink. YN was carefully folding a piece of parchment, her tongue poking out slightly in concentration as she tried to perfect the origami bird Mingi had taught her.
Wooyoung watched her with a soft smile, his elbow resting on his knee as he sat cross-legged beside her. He loved seeing her like this—calm, happy, and free to express herself.
“Wooyoung,” she suddenly said, looking up at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Let’s play a game.”
“A game?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes! It’s simple. One person asks a question, and the other has to answer truthfully. No skipping. Deal?” She held out her pinky finger, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
Wooyoung chuckled and linked his pinky with hers. “Deal.”
The game started innocently enough, with lighthearted questions that made them both laugh.
“What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?” she asked.
“Once, I fell off the ship during training and blamed it on a loose rope,” Wooyoung admitted, grinning sheepishly.
She burst into laughter, nearly dropping her origami. “You didn’t!”
“I did. Yunho still hasn’t let me live it down,” he said, shaking his head.
When it was Wooyoung’s turn, he asked, “What’s your favorite food?”
“Anything sweet,” she answered easily. “The sweeter, the better!”
The game continued, each question becoming a little more personal, a little more revealing. Wooyoung learned that YN’s favorite color was blue because it reminded her of the ocean and that she used to dream of being an adventurer before life tied her to the store.
Then, as the playful banter lulled, Wooyoung asked the question that had been weighing on his heart.
“Where are the scars from?”
As soon as the question left Wooyoung’s mouth, YN froze, her body stiffening as if all the air had been sucked out of the room.
“W-what?” she stammered, her voice shaky, eyes darting to her hands in panic.
“Your wrist,” Wooyoung said, his voice softer this time but unwavering. “I saw the scars. Tell me what happened.”
Her heart raced, her palms growing clammy as she clutched the half-folded paper bird. She couldn’t face him, couldn’t answer the question. Without another word, YN shot up from her spot and darted away, her footsteps echoing across the deck.
“YN!” Wooyoung called after her, but she didn’t stop.
She didn’t know where she was going, her mind clouded with panic, but her feet carried her to Seonghwa’s quarters. She knocked quickly before opening the door, her chest heaving as she stepped inside.
Seonghwa was seated at his desk, a book in his hands, but he looked up at her abrupt entrance. He immediately noticed her pacing back and forth, her hands trembling as she fidgeted with the sleeves of her shirt.
“YN,” Seonghwa called gently, setting the book down and standing up. “What’s wrong?”
“I—” she started, but the words caught in her throat. She stopped pacing and turned to him, her eyes wide and glassy with unshed tears.
“YN,” he said again, walking over to her slowly, his voice calm and reassuring. “Breathe. Tell me what’s going on.”
“I…” She hesitated, her mind racing. She couldn’t tell him about her wrists, couldn’t tell him about the scars, but she didn’t know how to explain the storm of emotions swirling inside her.
Seonghwa waited patiently, his arms crossed but his gaze kind. When her bottom lip quivered and her eyes spilled over with tears, he stepped closer and placed a steady hand on her shoulder.
“Whatever it is, you don’t have to carry it alone,” he said softly. “You can tell me, YN.”
Her shoulders shook as she wiped at her eyes with the back of her sleeve, trying to compose herself. “It’s just… it’s too much,” she finally whispered.
“Too much?” he prompted, his voice careful, coaxing.
She nodded, her voice trembling. “I—I don’t know how to explain it. Everything’s just… overwhelming.”
Seonghwa nodded in understanding, guiding her to sit on the edge of his bed. “Take your time,” he said, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket and handing it to her.
She clutched the fabric tightly, sniffling as she stared at her lap. “I just… sometimes I feel like I can’t keep up. Like I’m trying so hard to be happy, to be… me, but it’s exhausting.”
Seonghwa crouched down in front of her, resting a hand on her knee. “You don’t always have to be the sunshine, YN. It’s okay to feel tired. It’s okay to need help.”
YN's chest rose and fell rapidly, her breath coming in shallow gasps as the weight of her emotions overwhelmed her. Her hands trembled as they clung to Seonghwa’s forearm, her grip so tight it felt as though she was holding onto him for dear life.
Seonghwa didn’t flinch, didn’t pull away. Instead, he stayed perfectly still, a steady anchor in the storm of her panic. He knelt in front of her, his calm presence a stark contrast to her spiraling emotions.
“YN,” he said softly, his voice like a gentle tide. “Breathe with me. In through your nose, slowly… and out through your mouth.”
She shook her head, her tears streaming freely. “I—I can’t,” she choked out, her voice cracking.
“You can,” Seonghwa reassured her, his tone unwavering. “I’m right here. Just focus on me. Look at me, YN.”
She hesitated but finally met his gaze, her teary eyes locking onto his calm, reassuring ones.
“That’s it,” he murmured. “Now, follow my breath. In… and out.”
She tried, mimicking his slow breathing, though her breaths still hitched with sobs. Her fingers dug into his arm, and he didn’t so much as wince. Instead, he reached up with his free hand and gently dabbed at her tears with the handkerchief, his movements deliberate and careful.
“It’s okay to cry,” he said softly, his voice unwavering. “It’s okay to feel scared. You don’t have to apologize for how you feel.”
Her sobs quieted slightly, though her grip on his arm remained as strong as ever. She clung to him as though letting go would cause her to crumble entirely.
Seonghwa stayed patient, his calmness never faltering. He wiped her tears every so often, his hand moving with the same care as someone handling something fragile. “You’re safe here,” he reminded her. “Nothing’s going to hurt you. Not while I’m here.”
His words were like a lifeline, grounding her enough to slow her racing heart. After a few moments, her breathing began to even out, the tightness in her chest loosening bit by bit. She loosened her grip on his arm but didn’t let go entirely, her fingers still clutching him lightly as she hiccupped through her tears.
“Better?” he asked softly, his eyes searching hers.
She nodded weakly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me,” he replied gently. “You’re not alone, YN. You never will be.”
Though her tears hadn’t fully stopped, a flicker of warmth spread through her chest at his words. Seonghwa’s presence was steady and unwavering, and in that moment, she felt just a little bit lighter.
After leaving Seonghwa’s room, YN made her way to her quarters. Her steps were slow, her mind a swirl of emotions she couldn’t quite pin down. She opened the door quietly, her gaze immediately landing on Wooyoung sitting cross-legged on the floor near the door, as he always did at night. His head lifted when he saw her enter, concern evident in his eyes.
“YN, I—”
“Don’t,” she interrupted firmly, her voice steady despite the whirlwind inside her. She stood before him, her hands trembling slightly as she reached for the hem of her sleeves.
Wooyoung’s eyes widened slightly, and he opened his mouth to say something, but she silenced him with a look. Slowly, she rolled up her sleeves, the fabric slipping upward to reveal the scars etched into her wrists.
Wooyoung’s breath hitched as he saw them up close for the first time, the pale lines stark against her skin. His heart ached, a heavy weight settling in his chest as he looked at her, at the vulnerability she was showing him.
“This is what you wanted to know, right?” YN said, her voice soft but laced with a mix of courage and apprehension. “You wanted to know where the scars came from. Well… here they are.”
Wooyoung stood slowly, his movements careful as if afraid any sudden action might scare her away. He didn’t say anything at first, his gaze flicking from her wrists to her face.
The silence lingered for a while before YN took a shaky breath, her fingers twisting together in her lap. She stared at the floor, her voice barely above a whisper as she finally began to speak.
“My mother…” she started, pausing to collect her thoughts. “She wasn’t… normal. She was cruel. A maniac, really. She’d punish me for anything and everything—spilling a drink, speaking too loudly, even just… existing.”
Wooyoung sat perfectly still, his gaze fixed on her, his heart breaking with every word.
“And her punishments,” YN continued, her voice trembling, “they weren’t like what most kids go through. She didn’t yell or ground me. She… she used a whip. Always on my wrists. Always in the same place. I can still feel it sometimes, even now.”
Wooyoung’s fists clenched at his sides, but he didn’t interrupt, letting her speak at her own pace.
“My father tried to stop her,” she said, her voice cracking slightly. “He did everything he could, but she didn’t care. She was… relentless. And then, one day, she just… overdosed. Died right there in the house.”
She swallowed hard, her hands shaking as she rubbed at her sleeves. “You’d think I’d feel relief, right? That the nightmare was over. But I didn’t. I fell into this… dark hole. A part of me hated her, but another part of me missed her. I was so confused, so… lost. And that’s when it started.”
Wooyoung’s breath caught in his throat as she glanced at her wrists, her voice quieter now, as if she were confessing a sin.
“I started hurting myself,” she admitted, tears welling up in her eyes. “At first, it was just to feel something—anything other than the emptiness. But then it became… addictive. Like I couldn’t stop. Every time I felt overwhelmed or scared, it was my way of coping. It felt like the only thing I could control.”
Her voice broke, and she wiped at her cheeks, the tears now falling freely. “I hate it. I hate what I’ve done to myself. But it’s so hard to stop. Even now, there are days when the urge comes back, and I have to fight it with everything I have.”
Wooyoung moved closer, his heart heavy as he watched her crumble in front of him. “YN…” he said softly, his voice laced with pain and understanding.
She looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of vulnerability and shame. “I didn’t want you to know,” she whispered. “I didn’t want anyone to know. I thought I’d be fine keeping it to myself, but now… now I don’t know.”
“You don’t have to do this alone anymore,” Wooyoung said firmly, his voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside him. “You have me. You have Seonghwa, the captain… all of us. You’re not alone, YN. Not ever again.”
Her lips quivered, and for a moment, she looked like she wanted to argue, but then she nodded, the smallest bit of relief shining through her tears. “Thank you,” she whispered.
Wooyoung reached out, hesitated for a moment, and then gently placed his hand over hers. “You’re stronger than you think,” he said softly. “And I’ll remind you of that every day if I had to”
For a moment, she saw nothing but sincerity and warmth in his eyes. “I’ve already burdened Seonghwa enough tonight,” she said with a small, forced laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
“You’re not a burden,” Wooyoung said immediately, his voice firm. “Don’t ever think that. Not to him, not to me, not to anyone.”
The corner of her lip twitched upward, a small, grateful smile breaking through. “Thank you,” she whispered.
Wooyoung nodded, his expression softening. “Always.”
Without another word, she sat down on the edge of her bed, and Wooyoung returned to his spot on the floor near the door. The air between them was quieter now, but it wasn’t heavy. It felt lighter, like a silent understanding had settled between them.
And for the first time in a long while, YN felt a small sliver of peace.
The following days on the ship were like a fresh breeze in YN’s life. The weight she had carried for so long didn’t feel as heavy anymore. She laughed more, her usual sunshine-like personality shining even brighter now that the storm inside her had started to clear. She could feel it—she wasn’t alone anymore.
Wooyoung noticed the change in her, and it made his heart swell with pride and affection. She still leaped around the ship like a child, asking silly questions and sometimes pestering the others for answers. But now, there was something different about her—the way her laughter came from a place of genuine joy, the way her smiles reached her eyes.
And Wooyoung… he couldn’t stop looking at her. Every time she smiled, every time she glanced his way, his heart raced. He knew what it was now, that feeling that had been growing inside him from the moment he met her. He loved her.
She had become his light, his reason to be better, his reason to fight. And though he wasn’t brave enough to say it aloud, he showed it in every little thing he did. Whether it was sitting outside her door at night to keep her company or silently slipping her favorite snacks into her bag, his love for her shone through his actions.
For YN, Wooyoung had become her pillar, her safe place. She loved the feeling of knowing someone had her back, someone who cared for her as deeply as he did. It was something she’d never had before, and she treasured it more than anything.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and painted the sky in hues of gold and crimson, YN sat on the deck, her feet dangling over the edge. Wooyoung sat beside her, his usual playful demeanor softened by the quiet moment.
“Thank you,” she said suddenly, her voice carrying a softness that made Wooyoung turn to look at her.
“For what?” he asked, tilting his head.
“For being here,” she replied, her eyes fixed on the endless ocean before them. “For being my friend, for being my… everything.”
His heart skipped a beat, and he smiled softly. “You don’t have to thank me for that, YN. I’ll always be here for you. Always.”
She turned to him then, her eyes shining with gratitude and something deeper. “You’ve made me feel… safe. Happy. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like this before.”
Wooyoung’s breath caught in his throat, but he didn’t say anything, afraid he might ruin the moment. Instead, he reached out and gently took her hand in his, giving it a light squeeze.
And in that quiet moment, with the ocean stretching endlessly before them and the stars beginning to appear in the sky, they sat together, content in the knowledge that they had each other.
For YN, it was the start of a new chapter, one where she wasn’t defined by her scars but by the happiness she was finally allowing herself to feel.
And for Wooyoung, it was enough to simply be by her side, loving her quietly but completely, knowing that she was his light just as much as he was hers.

pairing: friend! jongho x fem! reader
synopsis: a late night call to a friend in search of comfort
wc: 1.2k
tags: fluff, slice of life, comfort, minor mentions of stress, and allusions to insomnia
etc: this is my first post here on tumblr… and this is not proofread either!
It was clear past two in the morning when you finally caved in, thumb barely hovering over Jongho’s contact before pressing the call button. You had spent the last hour just staring at the ceiling, tossing and turning under the blankets, trying every trick in the book you could think of to lull yourself into sleep, but your mind wouldn’t quiet down. The stress that had been piling up over the past few weeks refused to ease, keeping you tangled in your thoughts, all alone. You weren’t even sure why you called him of all people—maybe because he had noticed the small bits and pieces, maybe because he was always steady, so reliable. Or maybe because you just wanted to hear his voice.
The call rang longer than expected and your thumb once again hovering over your phone, you considered hanging up before a groggy voice answered, “...What?” You could hear the rustling and the sounds of sheets shifting, the phone picking up on all the details.
His voice was thick with sleep, and he sounded exhausted, and for a moment, you felt guilty, and it weighed heavily on your chest. “Jongho,” you murmured, voice quieter than you intended.
He inhaled sharply, sounding as if trying to force himself to wake up. “It’s two in the morning. Why are you calling me Y/N? Are you okay?” There was a drop of frustration in his voice, but still laced in concern, his firm tone just a bit softer than usual.
You hesitated, swallowing hard. “I… I couldn’t sleep. And I didn’t know who else to call.”
Silence stretched worlds between the two of you, except for the distant hum of the city outside your window. Then, with a sigh. “You should really be sleeping, you know.”
A dry chuckle left your lips. “Trust me, I know.” And you did, too many nights had been spent restless, and you were practically at your wits end.
There was another light rustling sound, like he was shifting in bed, getting more comfortable. “Alright, since you clearly refuse to touch the off switch, let’s try something else. You have any snacks at home?”
The question caught you off guard, thrown out of nowhere. “What?”
“Snacks,” he repeated once more, this time just a touch softer. “Or tea. Or anything good for a late night movie.”
You blinked up at the ceiling. “I have some chocolate chip cookies? And chamomile tea, I think?”
“Good. Next night, you’re making yourself tea before bed. And the cookies—” He paused for a second. “Actually, I’m taking those.”
You felt a small smile tug at your lips. “You’re becoming a cookie thief now?”
“I think it’s well deserved, I picked up a very important call at two in the morning, I deserve to be pampered.”
You just hummed in response. “Mmm, I’ve been thinking about a spa day, maybe I’ll do that at some point.” You said, sparked from nothing in particular.
“Do you even have face masks?”
“No, but I was thinking about getting some the next time I pick up groceries. I’ve been running low on my moisturizer lately too.”
He exhaled, long and slow. “Then you’ll get them next time I see you. And before you decide to argue, just let me do this, alright?”
And you didn’t argue, you didn’t even say anything. There was something grounding about his voice, about how he didn’t need to say much to make you feel safe. You let the silence settle again, but this time, the worlds didn’t seem too far apart, fairly aligned, actually. The quiet was somewhat comforting, his presence in the phone was enough to quiet the noise in your head.
His voice came softer now, almost as if he too was drifting off. “You still there?”
“Mhm,” you mumbled.
“Good. Just… try to rest, okay?”
You nodded slowly, even though he couldn’t see you. He waited a few more moments, long enough that you could hear his breathing slow, like he was about to fall asleep himself. There was a small pause, the sound of sheets shifting again, then a quiet exhale—like he was debating whether or not to say something else. But he didn't. Instead, he waited just a little longer, just until he was sure you were close to sleep, and minutes later, the phone call ended.
The morning light streamed through your blinds when a soft knock at your door startled you awake. You groggily shuffled toward the entrance, trying you best to rub the sleep out of your eyes, hair a mess from tossing and turning the night previous. The knock came again, this time a little louder. And when you cracked the door open, there stood Jongho, arms full of bags, dressed in a hoodie and sweats, looking every bit like he had just rolled out of bed himself.
“You look… terrible,” he deadpanned, eyes crinkling as he smiled.
You scoffed, stepping aside to let him in. “Thanks. That’s exactly what a girl wants to hear first thing in the morning.”
He only huffed, setting the bags down on your coffee table in front of the couch. “You didn’t sleep much after we hung up, did you?”
You sank onto the couch behind you, pulling a throw blanket around your shoulders as you watched him start unpacking. Face masks, a box of chamomile tea packets, some of your favorite assorted snacks, the moisturizer you had briefly mentioned, and a new pair of fluffy socks—he really thought of everything.
As he walked out of the living room and into your small kitchen to start the kettle, you sat for a moment. Your chest ached in a way you couldn’t explain, it felt like a string was attached to a rib and someone pulled harshly.
“Jongho…”
He didn’t look up. Just tossing you the socks before plopping down beside you. “I told you not to argue, no? I’m taking care of it.” He faced his body towards you, but not his head. His voice was less teasing than before, “You don’t have to say anything, you know? Just, let me be here.”
You stared at him for a long moment, warmth creeping up your neck, and to your ears. Then, in a haze of your previous sleepiness, you leaned against him, letting yourself settle onto him. He only stiffened for a second before sighing, tugging your blanket up so it fully covered you.
His hand lingered at your shoulder for a moment before dropping back to his lap. “You just need to stop overthinking everything.”
You huffed a small laugh and ever so slightly crossed your arms, pulling the blanket away. “Easier said than done.”
“Maybe. But I’ll keep saying it.”
His voice was steady and warm, and before you could think much of it, before the worries could creep back in, you let yourself relax against him. The stress hadn’t disappeared, but in that moment—with the scent of chamomile filling the air, his warmth beside you, and the soft crinkling of bags as he pulled out more items he brought, you felt lighter.
Jongho reached over, fixing your blanket again, making sure you were tucked in properly. He adjusted the blanket so your arms were covered, but his grasp never left. His arms remained around yours as he said, “Just close your eyes. Try to sleep, I’ll be here when you wake up.”
And for the first time in weeks, you might just do that.

----- A reblog would mean the world to me <33 ------
However, this also entailed that her soulmate bond was activated.
Yesterday was Yunhee’s 18th birthday, which meant that she was finally an adult according to society’s standards. It also meant that she could watch netflix shows that were adult rated without feeling guilty about her age and of course, call chronically online minors out on their behaviour as someone who’d automatically be deemed more mature and responsible.
Yunhee did feel a tingly sensation and the butterflies in her stomach like the others said she would, but after that everything went back to normal. No tattoos were etched onto her body, nor did she see a flash of her soulmate’s face in her mind and there was no response when she thought of a bunch of things to test if they had telepathy.
She really didn’t know what went wrong but it made her anxious. Also the fact that she had no way of knowing if something happened to her soulmate, as their soulmate bond was still unidentified.
“You should really calm down, Yunhee.” said Minha, her best friend of 7 years.
“What if I don’t find him soon enough? We have to meet each other as soon as possible after our soulmate bond has been activated or else we’d both gradually fall ill! Don’t you remember what happened to Nina and her boyfriend?” Yunhee muttered anxiously.
“It has only been a day! I don’t understand why you’re panicking so much. Give it a week and if there’s still nothing after that, then we can panic.” She concluded.
Taking her best friend’s advice, Yunhee decided to leave the matters into her soulmate’s hands, thinking if she was frantically trying out different confirmation methods, it was safe to assume that he was also doing the same.
“Dude, I’m telling you, your soulmate bond is telepathy! There isn’t any other type that matches!” Wooyoung exclaimed, while flailing his hands around to prove his point.
“But I haven’t heard anything from my soulmate so far! Nor do I know if the things I thought reached her!” Jongho yelled back.
“Okay… Well, try again later! Don’t give up on this, because I’m a hundred percent sure it’s telepathy of some sort even if it isn’t the common one.” Wooyoung got up to leave.
“How are you so sure? Are you a soulmate specialist or something?” Jongho scoffed at him.
Wooyoung smiled at that. “Remember how my soulmate bond was telepathy?” Jongho nodded, “I never told anyone this but, mine wasn’t your typical telepathy… It was one-sided.”
“What? No way!” Jongho stared at him in disbelief.
“Yes, our bond was such that I couldn’t hear anything from her but she could hear everything I thought about. I was ready to give up when I got this idea and decided to give it a last shot.” Wooyoung continued.
“What did you do?” Jongho asked.
“I sat down and started revealing my full name, my social media handles, my address and other details in my head, so if there really was anyone listening they’d know how to find me. She showed up on my doorstep with my favourite snacks not long after. The rest is history.” Wooyoung grinned while recalling the memory.
“How the hell did we not know this before? It’s literally a story worth telling!”
“Yes, I’m aware but the topic never came up and I can’t just randomly reveal that my soulmate bond was flawed you know?” Wooyoung tried to reason with Jongho.
“Okay, fine I got it. I’ll try thinking of different things and hope it’ll reach my soulmate somehow” Jongho sighed, giving in.
“That’s the spirit! Let me and the other guys know if you feel anything and I’ll see you later. Bye!”
Jongho headed to bed early that day, feeling exhausted. As he was lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, an idea came to him. ‘What if I focus on one topic to think about instead of multiple things at once? It might be a more organised approach and less strenuous for my brain.’
So he sat up and started consciously thinking about one topic, but phrased them in various ways.
‘What is your name?’ He waited a bit but there wasn’t a response.
“At least I know this won't work,” he said out loud.
‘Can you tell me your name?’
No response.
“Okay, that’s crossed out too then. How else can I phrase it…”
If anyone saw him then, they’d think he had gone mad by the way he was talking to himself.
‘Could you speak your name?’
‘Could you spell your name?’
‘Could you trace your name on your hand?’
Jongho tried phrasing it as many ways as he could, even if some sounded ridiculous.
‘Telleth me thy name.’
He paused before laughing at himself.
“So, Shakespearean English is crossed out too it seems.”
When he ran out of all the ‘tell’, ‘spell’, ‘speak’ and ‘think’ questions he took a different route.
‘Can you write your name?’
No response.
Jongho yawned, feeling sleepy. Lying back down on the bed, he tried thinking of a few more sentences before deciding to continue again the next day.
‘Could you write your name on paper?’
No response.
“Okay, then” he said.
‘Write your name down on paper for me please?’
He paused, just about to fall asleep.
That was when the most unexpected thing happened to him.
Yunhee was tossing and turning in bed, unable to fall asleep. She had just finished her college assignment, due the next day and all the stress she took for it made her extremely tired.
Assuming sleep would come easy to her, she finished her nighttime routine and headed to bed. But alas, sleep was nowhere to be found. It was one of those days where her body was tired but her mind was wide awake and she despised when that happened because it meant that she would not be able to fall asleep anytime soon.
She started counting sheep in her head as a last resort.
When she was on her 29th sheep, Yunhee heard something resonate in her head. The first noise sounded like an incoherent crackle and she almost dismissed it as her mind playing tricks, when she clearly heard a soothing male voice telling her to write her name on paper.
She sat up on her bed abruptly and tried to reach out to the guy, but to no avail. Her heart was beating very fast at the prospect of finally receiving a telepathic message. She was able to hear her soulmate’s voice and it was a feeling like no other.
After waiting a bit, she decided to do what the voice told her to: write her name on paper.
Yunhee got up, retrieving her notebook and a pen from the desk. Sitting back down on the bed once again, she opened the notebook to an empty page and scribbled her name on it. She also wrote “What is your name?” underneath.
She waited for a bit in case another message came through but there were no other responses.
Yunhee was completely unable to sleep that night.
Jongho couldn’t believe what he just saw. It was like a flash that only lasted for a few seconds, but he saw a vision through someone else’s eyes. He saw a hand pick up a light blue notebook with the words “hakuna matata” written in a corner with golden ink. The hand also picked up a pen and wrote down something in the notebook. What it wrote, Jongho couldn’t make out because the writing became hazy and blurry. He could only read out ‘Park’ and the writing underneath that said ‘what is your name?’.
He was sure the person wrote her name down but he could only read her surname.
Jongho felt something unexplainable in his gut. He was finally able to reach his soulmate, even though he couldn’t see her name. Thinking about the vision brought out a sense of longing inside him. He wanted to see more, feel more and know more about her, but he didn’t yet know how.
‘At least this is progress’ he thought. ‘I need to tell the others about this and figure out what I should do next.’
The doorbell rang but the sound went unheard by the group of guys inside the apartment. The person standing outside got impatient after a while, and had to bang on the door to gain everyone’s attention.
“Geez, Hongjoong-hyung why are you banging on the door like that? The bell exists for a reason.” Wooyoung tsked while opening the door for him.
“I rang the bell like 10 times already! None of you brats could hear it over the noise pollution! I swear y’all can be heard from down the hallway!” Hongjoong yelled at him.
“Cut us some slack though, Hongjoong. We met up after almost a month!” Seonghwa reasoned with him.
The seven guys excluding Jongho made themselves comfortable in Jongho’s living room, catching up with each other. Meanwhile, the resident of the apartment arranged some refreshments for the eight of them, bringing them over to the living area before plopping down between Yeosang and Mingi.
“So let’s come to the reason why I called you guys here–”
“You called us for a reason!?” San fake gasped.
“You wouldn’t have invited us if you didn’t have a use for us!?” Yunho butted in.
“Guys let the poor boy speak! I can kinda guess what it’s about.” Wooyoung tried to defend Jongho.
“Yes, thank you Wooyoung-hyung. The reason why I called you here is because I was able to contact my soulmate yesterday and I still don’t know what type of bond this is.”
At the revelation, everyone started yelling over each other and asking questions, of which Jongho was unable to decipher a single sentence.
The seven looked like a bunch of chattering baby birds that wanted food from its mother. He sighed and shook his head, thinking how the people in front of him were supposed to be older in age.
“Guys, one at a time!” he yelled.
“Okay, so it’s telepathy right?” Wooyoung asked.
“Yes and no.” Jongho paused to sort out what he wanted to say, “It’s telepathy, yes, because I consciously thought of something and it went through. But, only one kind of conscious thought out of all the other ones I tried to send, elicited a response.”
“That’s…weird?” Hongjoong muttered.
“And not just that, hyung. The response I received was in the form of a glimpse, showing me a vision through my soulmate’s eyes!”
“What?” exclaimed Mingi.
“So, it’s not just telepathy, it’s specific and supposedly one sided, while you receive sporadic glimpses through your soulmate’s eyes. That’s a very odd combination.” Wooyoung said, in deep thought.
“This is more complicated than yours was, hyung.” Jongho muttered.
“What do you mean?” Yeosang questioned, being able to hear what he said.
Jongho proceeded to tell them all the details regarding what he thought and what he saw in the glimpse, meanwhile not forgetting to expose Wooyoung and how he hid such crucial information about his own experience. The rest reprimanded Wooyoung for it, making him sulk, but they also collectively tried to figure out exactly how the bond worked.
“What happened!” Minha burst into Yunhee’s place, panting like she just ran a marathon.
“Why hello there best friend, why do you look as if you got chased by a dog?” Hayoon, their other best friend, asked sarcastically.
“Dude? I came here as fast as I could! I got Yunhee’s text a while ago that said ‘EMERGENCY’ in all caps! I thought some code blue shit happened to her!” Minha exclaimed.
“Wow, and I thought the text I received was bad… she sent, ‘come over, I have something to say’ that made me rush here because I thought she was pregnant or something, which would’ve been really bad considering her soulmate bond just activated.” Hayoon laughed.
At that very moment, Yunhee walked in with tubs of ice cream, suddenly feeling like she entered a lion’s den. The two girls yelled at her for being so dramatic over nothing but calmed down once she handed them their favourite ice cream.
“So, the reason I sent those ‘dramatic’ texts as you two so eloquently put it, is because I got contacted by my soulmate and I freaked out.” Yunhee revealed while rolling her eyes.
“What?” Minha yelled.
“When? How?” Hayoon followed.
“At night yesterday! I was trying to sleep after finishing the assignment and that’s when I heard his voice in my head telling me to write my name on paper. I don’t know why that was so specific but yeah I did as he said.”
“Did you hear anything in return?” Hayoon inquired.
“No, unfortunately. That was the only thing that came through.” Yunhee sulked.
“But hey! You got contacted by your soulmate! So we are sure that nothing happened to him and he’s probably trying to figure out how the bond works as well right?” Minha tried to cheer her up like the mom she was, unable to see her kid sad.
“Yeah, that’s true. I hope he figures it out though because I’m at a dead end here.”
“I’m sure he’ll figure it out! We currently have nothing to do but trust him and cheer him on. So don’t stress too much, Yuns. Stay alert and just wait for him to make the connection again.” Hayoon exclaimed, in a cheery voice.
“Exactly! Let’s trust him on this one and we can think more about it when he manages to contact you again. Meanwhile, tell us how he sounded! What did you feel?” Minha shook Yunhee in excitement.
So, the three girls spent the rest of their time discussing the interaction and other’s soulmate experiences while they enjoyed their ice cream.
Jongho recalled the conversation that he had with the guys earlier, who managed to come up with a few hypothetical situations for him to experiment.
He sat down on his desk with a notebook before him, taking notes like he would for a science class. The guys did have a few different ideas but Hongjoong’s idea made the most sense to Jongho.
Hongjoong proposed that the message that went through was a command rather than a suggestion or a question. And what Jongho received as a glimpse was the completion of said task that got sent as a command.
So what Jongho had to do was make his soulmate do tasks for him and if it worked out every time, then eventually find a way for them to meet face to face.
He relaxed himself and thought of a task for her to do.
“Okay, so I know that I’d probably not be able to know her name or see what she looks like through the bond so I can’t ask anything related to that.” He spoke out loud.
After thinking for a while, Jongho got an idea. He decided to send his soulmate to her favourite cafe and order her favourite drink. In this way he’ll be able to figure out which cafe she frequented and what drink she liked as well.
‘Go to your favourite cafe and order your favourite drink first thing in the morning.’ He thought, hoping that his soulmate heard it.
“Did it sound too rude? But I can’t send anything other than a command and commands don’t particularly sound nice though.” He spoke to himself again while scratching his head.
Before he could overthink more, Jongho wrote down what he said and headed to bed as he had classes to attend the next day.
Taking a last minute impulsive decision, Minha and Hayoon chose to stay the night at Yunhee’s house. The three slept over at each other’s places quite often, making it a regular occurrence in their lives. Yunhee let her mother know about it and she told her to grab the extra mattress that they had for such occasions.
While she was dragging the mattress to her room, she heard a crackle resonate in her mind like the last time. Yunhee dropped the mattress, focusing intently to see if her soulmate’s voice came through.
Minha was walking back with a glass of water when she spotted her by the living room standing as if she saw a ghost while the mattress was abandoned on the floor.
“Yuns, what happened–”
“Shush! I think I’m getting another message.” Yunhee quickly cut her off.
Indeed, the soothing voice she heard the first time spoke to her again, making the darn butterflies in her stomach return to torment her. She unconsciously smiled, the emotions that hearing her soulmate’s voice evoked in her being all very new.
Minha stared at her from the side, relating with the lovesick look on her friend’s face all too well.
“Go to your favourite cafe… and order your favourite drink first thing in the morning?” Yunhee repeated what her soulmate said to her out loud. She looked at Minha, tilting her head in obvious confusion.
“That’s what he said?” Minha looked equally perplexed.
“What is taking you two so long– why are y’all standing there with the mattress on the floor?” Hayoon came out of her room to check on the two.
Minha told her what happened while they dragged the mattress to Yunhee’s room. They sat down to think why her soulmate would send in yet another oddly specific message asking her to do something.
“You know what I think?” Hayoon said in a serious tone, unlike her usual carefree demeanour, “The only form of message he can send are the ones that tell Yunhee to do something. ‘Cause think about it! He probably already tried saying the common stuff like ‘what is your name’ or ‘where do you live’ like we telepathy types did, but in our case all the things we tried to send went through.”
Yunhee and Minha looked at each other for a few seconds before directing their attention back to Hayoon, who was raising her eyebrows at them.
“Wow dude, what’s up with you? You’re actually making sense today!” Yunhee exclaimed with fake enthusiasm while patting Hayoon on the shoulder, who rolled her eyes and pointed her middle finger towards Yunhee in return.
“Yeah! But Yoon’s right. Can’t relate though, ‘cause I was the tattoo type but she has a point. And I also think that he can somehow sense if you have done the given task or not or else he wouldn’t have any way of knowing if his messages are going through.” Minha added while laughing at Hayoon.
“I mean, the task is simple enough. I do visit cafe Aurora before heading to class anyway, so it won’t be anything out of the ordinary, I guess.” Yunhee muttered.
The three girls started their movie marathon, when Minha’s phone rang. It was a facetime call from her soulmate Changbin, who was also their childhood friend since middle school.
When Minha turned 18, which was three months back, she invited all her friends to attend the party, including Changbin. He was out of town that week so he couldn’t attend her birthday party.
The tattoo that appeared on Minha’s wrist was supposed to be the first thing her soulmate told her after it was activated, which said, “Happy birthday! Sorry I couldn’t make it, Min.”
Minha looked absolutely bewildered while Yunhee and Hayoon laughed at it like maniacs. She got teased by the other two the entire day, while she tried to appear nonchalant about it.
When they were younger, Minha never liked the concept of soulmates and always complained about the idea of getting paired up with a complete stranger for the rest of their lives as it seemed unnerving to her. But when she realised that her soulmate might be good old Changbin, she didn’t hate the idea anymore. It was true that Minha never saw him as anything more than a friend but he was an amazing guy and she did think he’d make a good partner.
At night she received a call from him and indeed, the first thing he said was “Happy birthday! Sorry I couldn’t make it, Min.”
Minha laughed and said, “Thanks, idiot.” when it dawned upon Changbin as well that his soulmate was none other than Minha.
They met up when Changbin returned (he basically scrambled to return as fast as he could) and made it official.
Among Yunhee’s friends, Minha and Changbin were probably the fastest soulmates to seal the bond which made a lot of them jealous because of how easy it was for them to find each other.
Back to the present, Changbin facetimed Minha who received the call.
“Hey Min, are you staying over at Yunhee’s today?”
“Yep. Sudden decision.”
“Oh okay, have fun! And pass the phone to Yunhee please.” Changbin spoke.
Yunhee peeked from the back and waved at him.
“You! What were you thinking when you sent a text like that, dumbass? Who sends ‘EMERGENCY’ and dips without explaining what happened?” He exclaimed.
“Ugh, okay fine sorry. I won’t send texts like that again. I got nagged enough by these two, I don’t need you to add anything to it, Binnie.” Yunhee whined.
“At least you’re fine and dandy so I’ll spare your ass today. How's the soulmate situation going?”
They told him everything that happened and gossiped with him for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Yunhee left to talk to her parents about something, only to come back to the room with her brows furrowed at the screen of her phone.
“Uh, Yoonie? Why is Eric texting me saying if I decided to keep the baby or not, and if I did he’ll help me convince my soulmate to keep it too?”
At this, Hayoon and Minha looked at each other, before they burst out laughing. Yunhee was still looking at them in bewilderment but the two were not being able to stop.
After two minutes of them laughing without break and Yunhee standing like the clown that she was, they finally stopped.
“Remember the text that you sent me? I showed it to Eric and he was the one who said ‘why does she sound like she’s going to announce her pregnancy or something’ and we realised that it could be a possibility, because dude, everyone knows that you write paragraphs when you text. So, such a thing was not to be taken lightly.” Hayoon shrugged.
At this Yunhee threw a pillow at her, yelling how her love life was as barren as the Sahara desert (because she couldn’t fall for anyone else when the thought of having a soulmate later in life hit her) and how she and her soulmate shared the same braincell.
“Come on! At least he’s supportive!” Hayoon defended Eric.
“Yeah yeah, I can see that. Let me call him and explain the whole thing, or else he’ll start preparing to be an uncle.”
Eric was Hayoon’s soulmate that she met 3 weeks after her 18th birthday. They were the telepathy type, being able to contact each other almost immediately after the soulmate bond was activated.
The two had a few bumps on the road, as Eric wasn’t cooperative in the beginning. The reason being that he liked this other girl and he couldn’t accept the fact that his soulmate was someone else. But the said girl found her soulmate a week after, which finally pushed Eric to move on and seek his own soulmate.
Minha and Yunhee didn’t like him, as he made their best friend suffer and put her at risk of getting ill due to the unsealed bond, but he redeemed himself eventually. Now they were a pretty wholesome couple.
After clearing the misunderstanding, they resumed the movie marathon, falling asleep in the midst of it.
Jongho didn’t feel like getting up. It was a cold winter morning, which made sleeping under the warmth of the duvet all the more enticing. But he had to wake up as he had an important class to attend that day.
He reached college early, so he was waiting inside the classroom when he saw it.
a glimpse of an awfully familiar cafe. He was able to hear her voice this time, when she spoke to order a regular hot mocha. A shiver ran down his body when he heard it, realising how sweet her voice sounded to him. Keeping his emotions at bay, he noticed two very familiar faces through the glimpse before it ended.
“Cafe Aurora, huh.” He smiled to himself. His soulmate was nearer to him than he thought.
As he entered through the door in a hurry to get away from the cold, Jongho noticed that the cafe was busier than usual. He figured that it was due to the freezing weather outside, while the cafe provided the warmth everyone including himself was seeking.
Upon reaching the front he spotted Soobin behind the cashier counter, taking orders like he usually does with a smile on his face. Beomgyu was in the middle calling out names and distributing drinks while San was at the back making them for the customers.
He eventually spotted Jongho and called another worker to take his place, so that he could go greet his friend.
“Jongho? Fancy seeing you here.” San spoke up in a playful tone.
“Why? Can’t I visit my dear hyung during his shift?” Jongho retaliated.
“No, of course you can but you usually don’t frequent this place. Remember when you told me it was far from your house and you already found another place to get your iced americano from?” San raised his eyebrows making Jongho avert his gaze.
“Okay, fine! You got me there. I came here to ask you something.” he pouted.
“Ei, don’t feel bad! I was teasing you! But do visit me more often from now okay? What did you want to ask?” San laughed while patting his back.
“So, I saw another glimpse this morning. I’ll tell you the details later but I think Hongjoong hyung’s theory worked. Can you tell me if you remember any girl, possibly a regular here, ordering hot mocha around 8 am?”
“I make the drinks dude, I wouldn’t know. Hey, Gyu? Can you come over for a sec?” San yelled.
Beomgyu, who finally got to breathe after distributing the drinks, clicked his tongue and walked over to where the two were standing.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“Do you remember any regular female customer that came today around 8 am to order a hot mocha?” San asked him.
“Okay first of all, I have been distributing over hundreds of drinks, at least 30 of which were hot mochas. And if we are talking about 8 am then a lot of people came in to get their morning fix before college so I don’t think I can help you.” He paused.
“You could check the server but I doubt that would be of any help either, because a lot of female regular customers order hot mochas in the morning so…” Beomgyu shrugged.
“Okay thanks, Gyu. We’ll figure something out.” San sighed.
“Why? Did anyone take a drink without paying again?” Beomgyu inquired in a concerned voice.
“No, no. We’re trying to find Jongho’s soulmate.” San and Jongho laughed at Beomgyu’s expression.
“Oh, thank god. Good luck searching for her, bro.” Beomgyu gave Jongho a thumbs up before resuming his work.
San looked at Jongho, who was deep in thought.
“How’d you know she came to Aurora?”
“Oh, come on hyung, I’d recognise the interior anywhere! Plus, she gave her order to Soobin and you were at the back making drinks. I saw you two in the glimpse.” Jongho poked San in the shoulders, making him swat his hand away.
“Moreover, I think I found out how the bond works. So, I’ll increase contact and try to get her to meet me somehow.”
“That’s the spirit! I know you’ll succeed Jongho-yah.” San said with a proud look on his face.
He asked Jongho if he still wanted to order an iced americano in a weather like that, to which he said yes. San shook his head at the boy but proceeded to make him what he wanted, yelling how he wouldn’t take any responsibility if Jongho caught a cold later.
He just smiled and gestured at him to continue making the drink.
Two days have passed since Yunhee received the last message from her soulmate. She was trying not to think about it, distracting herself with other things but every now and then her mind would fleet to the honey-like voice which evoked an unexplainable sense of longing in her. She wanted to hear his voice again.
During breaks, the trio made a point to gather whenever their schedules coincided, to catch up and complain about college, even though it was just their freshman year.
Yunhee was walking towards their hangout spot with Hayoon when she felt like another message was coming through. She stopped walking and tapped Hayoon on the shoulder to do the same.
The now familiar voice reverberated in her head saying “Write the name of your favourite flower on your notebook.”
She stood there with a faraway look in her eyes, while the girl beside her extended and retracted her hand awkwardly, not knowing if she should shake her best friend or not.
Hayoon didn’t have to suffer in indecisiveness for long, as Minha approached them and did the job for her by back hugging Yunhee, bringing her out of her trance.
“Why are you two standing here? Let’s go.”
“Wait, Yunhee received another telepathic message. What is it bro?” Hayoon asked Yunhee.
“He asked me to write the name of my favourite flower. What is he up to?”
“It’s just flowers Yunhee, he probably wanted to know basic stuff like that so that he can be prepared when he finally meets you.” Minha reasoned.
“Okay let’s go sit, so that I can write it down.”
The three headed to their hangout place. As soon as Yunhee sat down, she reached for her bag to bring the notebook out. She opened it and wrote, ‘sunflowers, but pink roses are great too’ after much thought.
The other two teased her saying they already knew she was going to write sunflowers so she really didn’t have to ponder so much, but Yunhee disagreed by saying how she found all flowers pretty so it was hard for her to pick one.
The following day, Yunhee received another message that asked her to write yes in the notebook if she was available on the weekend and no if she wasn’t.
She ended up writing a ‘YES’ in capital letters on her notebook that probably covered the whole page, out of sheer excitement.
Jongho on the other hand received a glimpse of it, laughing at how adorable she was. It was as though he felt the excitement of his soulmate and that made him more eager and impatient to meet her.
Yunhee immediately informed Hayoon and Minha about it, who were equally thrilled for their best friend and promised to help her get ready for the occasion.
Weekend arrived faster than the two soulmates anticipated. Jongho made sure to send her a message saying “Go to cafe Aurora at 4pm” before he started preparing to meet her.
He got ready at three and sent a message to his group chat asking which flower he should pick between sunflowers and pink roses. Most of them suggested him to buy both and get them arranged in a nice bouquet.
What Jongho didn’t know, however, was that the seven were already camping at cafe Aurora (excluding San because it was his shift anyway) to watch the scene unfold.
Yunhee finally finished getting ready with the help of her two best friends. She opted for a classy but casual look: flared jeans, puffy sleeved black top, minimal pearl accessories and light makeup.
She kept stressing and overthinking about the entire situation like the worrywart she was. At first Minha and Hayoon were trying to reassure her and alleviate her concerns but after a while it became frustrating for them so they nagged her and threw her out of the house before it was too late.
Yunhee, although still anxious about the whole meeting up with her soulmate situation, took deep breaths and reminded herself how much she had been wanting to meet her soulmate for the past few days. After calming down a bit, she headed towards the cafe.
Jongho arrived at the cafe, the bouquet of flowers in hand. It seemed as though he attracted quite a bit of attention, because of how big the assortment of flowers looked due to the big and vibrant sunflowers. He didn’t think much of it however, opting to find a suitable seat while he waited for his soulmate to arrive.
San on the other hand, went inside the storage room upon Jongho’s arrival to alert the other six who were hiding in there. The guys were trying to find a suitable position to peek in through the door; bickering in low voices to prevent being seen. Yunho had to hold his hand over Wooyoung’s mouth in case he yelled unintentionally and gave out their position.
Meanwhile, San explained the whole situation to Beomgyu and Soobin, who finally understood what was going on.
“Here goes nothing.” Yunhee muttered to herself while she pushed the door to the cafe open. Upon entering she noticed that the cafe was moderately busy– an unusual sight for her as she always visited early in the morning during the rush hour, when all the seats were occupied and a huge queue present.
She didn’t know what to look for as her soulmate hadn’t really mentioned anything that would help her identify him in the crowd, but she hoped that her ‘soulmate senses’ would assist her with it (if such a thing existed).
Soobin noticed her standing awkwardly by the door and called her.
“Hello! Yunhee, right?” he said.
“Oh, hi! Yeah, I usually drop by before going to college. I’m glad you remember my name!” Yunhee was grateful to him for striking up a conversation.
“You seemed like you were searching for someone. Do you perhaps need some help?” He inquired.
“I was, actually! To be honest, I don’t know what he looks like.” she paused. “It’s… my soulmate and today is supposed to be our first meeting.” Yunhee said truthfully.
Upon hearing what she said, Soobin immediately yelled at San to come to the counter, who was standing at the back.
Yunhee saw Soobin whisper something to his ear and he looked at her with his eyebrows raised in shock. He then moved back to allow the guy to stand in his place.
“Hi! I’m San and I usually handle making beverages at the back. Soobin here just told me that you are looking for your soulmate, is that right?” He asked politely.
“Nice to meet you! And yeah, I am.” She replied.
“Looks like we’ll meet each other more often from now on, Ms.Yunhee.” San said while smiling. “And you might want to look there, on the right side, where a guy is sitting with a huge bouquet of flowers. Good luck!” He instructed while pointing towards the table.
Yunhee approached said table and immediately noticed the assortment of sunflowers and pink roses along with a few other flowers. She tapped on the table to get the guy’s attention, who was on his phone with his back to her.
Jongho looked up, only to find, arguably, the most beautiful girl he has ever laid eyes upon. He seemed to be in a trance, everything but the girl in front of him becoming a blur.
Yunhee wasn’t faring any better, feeling like her heart was beating out of her chest as she stared at the guy that was supposed to be her soulmate.
Both of them felt like something clicked in place, like the final piece in a puzzle that they didn’t even know was missing all this time.
Jongho recovered first, standing up to move the bouquet so that Yunhee could sit in the seat in front of him. Once she settled down, he swiftly handed the flowers to her, to which she thanked him in a bashful way.
“I did think your choice of flower was unique, but now that I saw you face to face, it suits you.” Jongho said, after clearing his voice.
“I’ll take that as a compliment, thanks.” Yunhee replied.
“I’m Jongho. Choi Jongho. Sophomore in college.”
“Park Yunhee. Freshman.”
“Yunhee… a pretty name for an even prettier person it seems.” Jongho replied playfully, making her blush.
They carried their conversation, feeling quite relaxed and comfortable after a while. Yunhee asked him a bunch of different questions, as she couldn’t do that with their bond earlier and Jongho patiently answered every query that she had with a smile on his face, not missing to ask her some in return.
The more they communicated, the more they realised how similar their values and preferences were, which dispelled all the concerns they had about liking each other.
Jongho got up to collect their order when he noticed the six heads peeking through a door in the distance. He made his way towards the door and swung it open, to see the six guys trying to hide behind carton boxes.
Jongho folded his arms and glared at them while they stuttered trying to explain the situation. Meanwhile, San pretended he did not see anything and continued his work.
Being discovered already, the guys came out from the storage room and greeted Yunhee, who was taken aback at first but reciprocated their enthusiasm almost immediately.
She could see how embarrassed Jongho looked because of them so she tried to console him by saying that her friends were like this too and they’d all get along really well once they met.
The guys started leaving one by one, seeing how Jongho’s death glare was still quite evident and they didn’t want to be at the receiving end of their youngest’s wrath.
Jongho sighed and apologised to Yunhee again for his friends’ sudden intrusion to which she was fine with and said that it was quite nice to meet the people he was close to.
They finished their beverages and chose to take a walk outside before heading home.
As they were walking along the pavement, Jongho felt a sudden urge to hold her hand. He tried to appear nonchalant and brushed his hand with hers, to which Yunhee responded by grabbing his hand while looking the other way.
As someone who hated skinship with all his being, Jongho didn’t quite fathom why he felt the need to initiate physical contact with the girl walking beside him. Something as simple as holding hands was making his emotions go haywire.
'So this is what having a soulmate feels like.' Jongho thought.
“Right? I always felt like it was a foreign concept to me, which I couldn’t relate to at all when the people around me shared their stories. But now that I’m experiencing it for myself, I get what they were saying.” Yunhee replied, while swinging their joint hands back and forth.
Jongho looked at her, perplexed about how she knew what he was thinking when their soulmate bond was supposed to dissipate once they met; not to mention it wasn’t regular telepathy to begin with.
Yunhee glanced back at him, to see his head tilted endearingly towards her in confusion.
“You said that out loud, Jongho.” She pointed out while giggling at his expression.
“Oh, I didn’t realise that.” Jongho turned his head away to hide his embarrassment but Yunhee noticed how red his ears were, making her chuckle again. He figured that he really loved how her laugh sounded.
After their impromptu stroll, Jongho took Yunhee home.
They were at the gate, when the girl turned around and held both of Jongho’s hands.
“I had a lovely time today, so thank you so much for that. Thank you for not giving up on me even after knowing how complicated it was trying to find how our bond worked, as I completely started depending on you after not having a single clue about it. I know that our life was kind of on the line too but still I’d like to express my gratitude. And also… thanks for not turning out a jerk I guess?” Yunhee ended with a mischievous smile, making Jongho laugh.
“Then I’d also like to express my gratitude for the fact that you chose to trust me on this and I’m so glad that you’re my soulmate.” Jongho smiled warmly while squeezing her hands tighter. “Also, thanks for not being a snobbish Karen.” He ended with a wink.
Both Yunhee and Jongho felt all warm inside just by looking at each other. Every emotion that they felt just by doing the bare minimum seemed heightened and it was a complete new experience for both of them.
The day ended as Yunhee hugged Jongho despite him telling her he hated skinship, and surprisingly Jongho didn’t mind it and hugged her back.
Yunhee promised to introduce her parents and friends to him some other day, to which Jongho wholeheartedly agreed, saying he’d do the same.
At last they parted ways, Yunhee entering her house and Jongho on his way home even though they didn’t want the day to end.
Unspoken promises of a life together at each other's side lingered on. A life, where they were bound to be together, chosen as each other’s counterparts by fate itself. No matter how many lives they lived, the red string of fate would always bring the destined souls to one another; such was the way of the universe.

A Promise Under Stars
The soft glow of the streetlights reflected off the cobblestone streets as Y/N walked home from the late-night café. The summer breeze rustled the leaves of the trees that lined the quiet street, creating a symphony of whispers that danced around her. She had always enjoyed these peaceful walks, especially after spending hours working on her art projects in the café. It was her way of unwinding and finding clarity after a long day.
Tonight was different, though. Her heart was a little heavier, a little more uncertain. It wasn't because of her work—she loved it, after all. No, it was because of the persistent fluttering in her chest every time she thought about Jongho.
Jongho, her cheerful, energetic junior, who had a smile that could light up a room. He was more than just a colleague or a friend; he was someone who had become an important part of her life. She had known him since he first started working at the café, and his enthusiasm and warmth had always been a source of comfort for her.
It had started as a casual friendship, but recently, she couldn't help but notice that her feelings for him had deepened. Jongho had a way of making her feel special, of being attentive in a way that seemed just a little more than friendly. It had her questioning whether he felt the same.
"Y/N-noona!" The familiar voice broke through her thoughts, and she turned to see Jongho running toward her, his face lit up with a broad grin.
"Jongho," she greeted with a warm smile. "What are you doing out here so late?"
"I could ask you the same thing," he replied, catching up to her and matching her pace. "I was just finishing up some practice and thought I'd walk you home. It's dangerous to be out alone this late."
She laughed softly. "You're such a worrywart. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."
"Still, I'm not taking any chances," Jongho insisted. He fell into step beside her, the two of them strolling down the path together. His presence was comforting, like a favorite old sweater.
For a while, they walked in companionable silence, occasionally exchanging glances and small smiles. Jongho had his hands stuffed in his pockets, and Y/N found herself stealing glances at him when she thought he wasn't looking. He had always been handsome, but there was something about the way the streetlights highlighted his features tonight that made him lookeven more striking.
"Are you still working on that big project?" Jongho asked suddenly, his tone curious.
"Yes," she replied. "It's coming along. I'm just hoping I can finish it by the deadline."
"I know you will," Jongho said confidently. "You always put so much into your work. It's inspiring."
His words made her heart flutter. "Thank you, Jongho. That means a lot to me."
They reached a park on the edge of her route home, a place Y/N often used as a resting spot. The moon was high in the sky, casting a silver sheen over the landscape. Jongho suggested they sit for a while, and Y/N agreed, finding a comfortable bench under a large oak tree.
They settled onto the bench, and for a moment, Y/N was lost in the beauty of the night. Jongho, however, seemed unusually quiet. He was staring at the ground, his fingers fidgeting with the hem of his sleeve.
"Is everything okay?" she asked, noting his unusual silence.
"Actually," he began, his voice hesitating, "there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about."
Her heart skipped a beat. "What's up?"
Jongho took a deep breath, his eyes meeting hers with a seriousness she wasn't used to. "Noona, I've been thinking a lot lately. About us. And... I don't want to just be friends anymore."
Y/N's breath caught in her throat. She had hoped, but never truly expected, that Jongho might feel the same way. Her heart raced as she searched for the right words.
"Jongho, I—" she started, but he reached out, gently taking her hand in his.
"Please, let me finish," he said softly. "I've always admired you, not just for your talent and kindness, but for who you are. And over time, those feelings have grown into something more. I think about you all the time, and I can't help but wish there could be something more between us."
The honesty in his eyes made Y/N's heart swell. She had always felt a connection with Jongho, but hearing him confess his feelings left her overwhelmed with emotion. She squeezed his hand gently, a smile spreading across her face.
"Jongho," she said softly, "I've been feeling the same way. I just didn't know how to tell you."A relieved smile crossed Jongho's face, and he leaned a little closer. The air between them seemed to crackle with anticipation. Slowly, he brought his free hand up to her face, his touch feather-light against her skin.
"Can I?" he asked, his eyes searching hers.
Y/N nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. Jongho closed the distance between them, his lips brushing against hers in a gentle, tender kiss. The world seemed to fall away as they lost themselves in the moment, the kiss conveying everything they had felt for each other but hadn't been able to say.
When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathless, their foreheads resting together. Jongho's eyes were filled with a mixture of joy and relief, and Y/N felt a warmth spreading through her that was more comforting than the summer breeze.
"I've wanted to do that for so long," Jongho admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Me too," Y/N said, her voice trembling slightly. "I'm glad we finally did."
They stayed like that for a while, simply enjoying the closeness and the tranquility of the night. The stars twinkled above them, as if in approval of the new chapter they were beginning together. Jongho's arm found its way around her shoulders, pulling her close in a protective, loving embrace.
As they sat there under the starlit sky, Y/N couldn't help but feel that everything had fallen perfectly into place. The uncertainties and worries that had clouded her mind seemed to dissipate, replaced by a comforting certainty of Jongho's presence in her life.
"Let's make a promise," Jongho said suddenly, his voice filled with earnestness.
"What's that?" she asked, looking up at him.
"That we'll always be honest with each other," he replied. "No matter what happens, we'll face it together."
Y/N smiled, her heart swelling with affection. "I promise."
And as they sat together, wrapped in each other's arms, the melody of the night played on, a harmonious backdrop to their newfound love. The stars above seemed to shine a little brighter, reflecting the joy and hope that filled their hearts.

Choi Jongho : Regret (Part 2/2)
Pairing : Choi Jongho (Ateez) and named character (Na Jieun)
___________________

2 months later :
Jieun was now sitting at home, watching the TV as it was a Sunday and her day off of work. It was already October, a few months away from her favourite holiday week. Just as jieun was about to open the third potato chip packet of the day the channel suddenly switched to SBS, showing pictures of the Ateez members standing together outside a variety show set. Jieun's eyes suddenly went to jongho, realizing how pale and worn out he looked in the videos and photos.
He had always looked tired but this was different, this looked as if he genuinely needed someone to hold him up. Jongho hadn't contacted her from that day but the gifts still continued, jieun even had to buy two extra vases to fit all the flowers in. but she'd forgotten about how jongho could overwork himself to the point where he'd need weeks of rest afterwards.
Jieun let out a breath, keeping the packet of chips away as she took her phone and dialed hongjoong's number before calling. He picked up a few seconds later
Hongjoong : jieun?
Jieun : please don't tell jongho I called, or is he next to you already?
Hongjoong : no he isn't next to me. But-
Hongjoong cut himself off as another voice was heard through the line, a polite female voice
??? : choi jongho-shi will be awake within a few minutes, if you wish you can go meet him now.
Jieun's eyes widened, quickly standing up as she asked
Jieun : hongjoong, are you at a hospital?
Hongjoong : uh yes. Thing is, jongho fainted a few hours ago and we were worried so we brought him to the hospital. The doctors said it was because he'd overworked and tired himself out. He just needs a bit of rest-
Jieun : where is he?
Hongjoong : xxx hospital.
Before hongjoong could say anything more jieun cut the call, quickly putting on her coat before rushing out the apartment.
________________________
Jieun ran into the hospital room hallway with a racing heart, pausing at the sight of san standing right outside the room the receptionist had told jongho was in. He straightened up as jieun walked towards him, worry evident in her eyes as she asked breathlessly
Jieun : jongho, is he okay now?
San : he needs bed rest for a few days, but the doctors say he can be discharged tomorrow.
Jieun let out a shaky breath, the door to jongho's room opening as hongjoong stepped out. He smiled at the sight of jieun before saying
Hongjoong : jieun-ah. You're here already?
Jieun : can I…can I see him?
Hongjoong : of course, you don't need our permission for that. Please, go in.
Jieun nodded and gave a small smile to the both of them before entering inside, shutting the door behind her.
Jongho : hyung I told you I'm fine-
Jieun : it's me.
Jongho paused as jieun walked to his bed where he was currently lying down, his eyes showing shock as jieun said
Jieun : you've done it again.
Jongho : jieun.
Jieun : why can't you ever take care of yourself, jongho? Why can't you-
Jongho : why can't you accept my gifts, hmm? Why do you keep…why do you keep pushing me away?
Jieun : what does that have to do with this, jongho!
Jongho : it has everything to do with this! You're here for what, because hongjoong told you I was hospitalized? Couldn't you have told him we didn't have anything between us anymore? Why did you have to come? Why do you have to pretend as if everything is alright-
Jongho cut himself off as jieun suddenly hugged him, his eyes widening as he felt jieun sniffle against his shoulder
Jongho : jieun-ah.
Jieun : stop. Stop doing this to me, jongho. I'm trying-trying my best to move away from you and you keep doing this, you keep worrying me and I keep coming back.
Jongho laid his hand against jieun's back, closing his eyes as he whispered with small tears in his eyes
Jongho : I was a mess, jieun. I was scared my group would go back because of how less concentration I was paying these days and I thought I'd disappoint my fans so I just…I'm sorry for worrying you, alright? It won't happen again, I promise.
Jieun pulled back, wiping her tears as she said, holding jongho's hands in hers
Jieun : don't do this for me, do this for yourself, jongho.
Jongho : everything I have done I have done for you, jieun-ah. I have forgotten how to do things for me now, it's been too long.
Jieun looked at jongho, tears in her eyes as jongho laid his hand against her cheek before whispering
Jongho : you don't have to do this anymore if you don't want to, jieun. You can go away from me, I'll let you. I'll stop bothering you from now.
Jieun felt her heart drop at jongho's words as he said
Jongho : I want you to be happy, and I can clearly see now that I don't bring happiness to you anymore. So I'll stop, once and for all.
________________________
Jieun plopped down on her couch, feeling empty as ever. This was what she'd wanted, right? She'd wanted jongho to go away, and now he was ready to do so. Jieun looked at the three different flowers vases kept in her kitchen counter, the flowers jongho had given her the past few months all growing really well. At this point she could make a garden out of the flowers he'd given her, and although she'd found it annoying in the beginning, now? Now she'd miss it.
Jieun groaned, falling back against the couch as she placed the back of her hand against her eyes. She hated this, she hated how she felt right now. He was giving her what she'd asked for and now she didn't want it anymore? This was so embarassing.
Just as jieun was about to try and sleep her phone rang, making her sit back up as she checked the contact. It was jongho.
Jieun : hello?
Jongho : yes uhm I was going to ask you to come back home? Not for anything else, it's just because I have some of your stuff left behind at home. And I thought you'd want it back since you're leaving so if you could come by tomorrow-
Jieun : I don't want them.
Jongho : w-what?
Jieun : I don't want them back, they're yours.
Jongho : no jieun, these are your hoodies-
Jieun : those hoodies I'd brought them so we could match together, jongho. There is no point in me having those hoodies if the match can't be made. You…you keep them or throw them away or do whatever with it.
Jongho sighed over the line, jieun gripping the phone harder in her hand as she bit her lip to stop the unwanted tears
Jongho : I'm trying to make this work, jieun. I'm trying to let you go, finally, and you aren't helping.
Jieun : jongho.
Jongho : no what has changed, huh? The fact that I'm hospitalized? That's called pity, jieun-ah, not love-
Jieun : I can differentiate between pity and love myself, jongho. I know what this is, clearly.
Jongho : then what is it?
Jieun : jongho, we can't.
Jongho : no because we're at this anyway, so then tell me. Tell me what I am to you now.
Jieun closed her eyes, feelings tears in them as she whispered
Jieun : I don't know, okay? Up until…up until a few weeks ago I wanted to break up, I wanted us to stop. And then now…now I'm-I feel like I still love you, jongho.
Jongho : are you sure?
Jieun : I am.
Jongho : then come home tomorrow, for lunch. Please?
Jieun wiped her tears as she said
Jieun : yeah, I'll be there.
____________________________
2 weeks later :
Jieun would now go to jongho's house a few times every week, doing whatever it is that he wanted to do that day. From movie dates, to cooking together, or even listening to his new music, they'd do it all together. Jieun had no idea what it meant, and neither did jongho. But whatever it was, they wanted to be together.
Jieun was now helping jongho arrange the library in his house, giggling at something jongho had just said
Jongho : so what I'm saying is, san is just really stupid when it comes to cooking.
Jieun : well you don't know how to do it either so.
Jongho frowned as he lightly hit jieun's head with a book, jieun gasping as she said
Jieun : I'm calling the cops on you, choi jongho.
Jongho : please do. Jail would be a really needed vacay for me.
Jieun smiled, standing on her tiptoes as she tried putting a book onto the top shelf. Jieun paused as she felt a pair of hands wrap around her waist, lifting her off of the ground as she came to the same level as that of the shelf. Jieun let out a breath as she quickly kept the book in, jongho lowering down as jieun whispered
Jieun : I could've just taken a stool or something.
Jongho : why bother?
Jongho was about to move away when jieun quickly held his wrist, making him pause as she said
Jieun : jongho-ya, what…what are we now?
Jongho looked at jieun in part shock at the sudden question, her eyes searching his for some answer as jongho finally said
Jongho : what do you want us to be?
Jieun : you know what, jongho.
Jongho : no, no I don't. because if you remember, you're the one that left me, jieun. You're the one that said you didn't wanna deal with me anymore. So-
Jieun : that was what I thought, okay? But now…now I just-
Jongho : you what, want us back together?
Jieun looked up at jongho as he said
Jongho : I don't think we should do this, jieun. Not right now.
Jieun : jongho-
Jongho stepped away from jieun, his eyes now closed off as he said
Jongho : go back home, jieun-ah, it's getting late.
_______________________________
A week later :
Things had been awkward since then, because whenever jieun would try talking to jongho, he'd either be dry to her or just cut her off entirely. Jieun wasn't enjoying it, and that in turn led to her having too much Soju and ringing the doorbell to jongho's house. The roles really had switched.
Jongho, meanwhile, was scared. He was scared that if the both of them were to start dating again, it'd only hurt jieun in the end. He felt like he wasn't deserving of her, and that made him want to stay away from her, no matter how much he wanted her. But when he saw a drunk jieun staggering in front of his door at 10 in the night, jongho quickly ran to open it.
Jongho : jieun?
Jieun smiled at jongho, quickly falling into his arms as jongho held her up, placing his hand against her red cheek before whispering
Jongho : did you really have to drink so much?
Jieun : did you really have to push me away so much?
Jongho sighed, lifting her up as he said
Jongho : let's get you inside, it's cold.
Jongho stepped inside with jieun in his arms and shut the door behind him, walking up to the couch before placing jieun on it. Jieun quickly sat back up straight, frowning at jongho before saying
Jieun : you're too mean.
Jongho : jieun, you're drunk.
Jieun : shut up, I know what I'm talking about.
Jongho sighed, kneeling down in front of her as he began removing her boots.
Jieun : jongho-ya, I wish you'd come back to me.
Jongho paused halfway through untying the shoelace as he looked up at jieun before saying
Jongho : what?
Jieun : was it not obvious? Isn't that why you pushed me away?
Jongho : jieun nothing's going to change if we get back together, you hear me? I'm going to keep hurting you with my actions and you'll scar me even more with all that you say about it. It's not going to work-
Jieun : it can work if you fucking tried, jongho! Why can't you fight for us, why won't you try changing yourself for the betterment of both of us, so we can be together? Why won't you-
Jongho : because I tried once and it didn't work, jieun.
Jieun : then try again! Try again, and again until it fucking works. Or make it work, I want to be with you.
Jongho let out a breath, keeping both her boots away as he said
Jongho : you're drunk.
Jieun : okay, and? I'm not saying this for fun.
Jongho sighed as he laid her back against the sofa before saying
Jongho : go to sleep, I'll get you a blanket.
Before jongho could leave jieun held the edge of his cuffs once again, making him pause on his tracks as she said
Jieun : jongho, I mean it. We have two weeks left before the new year fireworks, try until then. Because I'll be waiting, for you and for us. I will stand on that bridge until the dawn breaks, jongho, you have that much time to come back to me. If you don't, then I'll consider us done.
Jongho stared at jieun as she said
Jieun : and then I won't bother you ever again, truly.

2 days later :
Jongho : hyung, please.
Mingi : you're being so stupid, jongho. She's giving you a second chance and you're not fucking taking it?
Jongho : I'm scared, okay?
Mingi : what the hell are you scared of?
Jongho : of repeating the cycle.
Mingi : then fucking break it, jongho!
Jongho : I'm trying! She asked me to, and I am trying. It just…I don't know if it’s working.
Mingi : you'd only know if it's working if you'd be with her, jongho-ya.
Jongho sighed, resting his head against the recording studio table as mingi said
Mingi : jongho-ya, you know you love her and she loves you too. All you have to do is just make some time for her, and that is not such a heinous task for you to be getting so worked up over it.
Jongho : hyung, what if…what if I can't do it? What if I fail?
Mingi : what's more important to you, jongho, her or your own comfort?
Jongho : her.
Mingi : then you already have your answer. Fail if you will, fail terribly. But in the end, you'd still have tried and that, is more than enough.

2 weeks later :
Jieun let out a breath as she walked up to the edge of the bridge, staring up at the sky as she realized there was only 5 more minutes until the fireworks started. This fireworks was important to her, because it was the night her parents and jieun would once come up here, sitting on a bench until dawn and talked about how they wanted to go by for the next year.
They'd make resolutions, and promises, and they'd have fun together. After they died jieun had no one to do that with any longer. And then jongho had come, and jieun decided she'd do it with him. And she had, for 6 years she'd stayed up with him until dawn in the same bench that her parents had once sat with her before. They'd talk about their plans, and the future they wanted together.
And now, today would decide their future together. If jongho showed up, he did. And if he didn't, that would mean the end of jieun's world.
Jieun looked up at the sky as a firework suddenly exploded, indicating that it was finally new year. Jieun smiled, small tears in her eyes as she watched the fireworks go up one by one. And just as she was about to pull out her phone for some pictures, a voice interrupted her.
Jongho : happy new year, Na Jieun.
Jieun quickly turned around, her eyes widening at the sight of jongho in front of her.
Jieun : jongho?
Jongho smiled, walking closer to jieun as he said
Jongho : I wanted to see you with someone better, but I realized I wouldn't be able to bear that if it were to happen some day. So I'm going to become better, for you and for us. I'm trying now, jieun. And I will try forever if it means being with you, I'm stupid for not doing that earlier. And I'm sorry.
Jieun quickly hugged jongho as tears streamed down her cheeks, his presence giving her all her answers as she whispered
Jieun : you came.
Jongho closed his eyes, wrapping his arms around her waist before whispering
Jongho : of course I did, I love you, jieun.
Jieun : I love you too, jongho. God I have always loved you. And…I was scared you wouldn't come. I thought you didn't want me anymore, I was so scared.
Jongho placed his hand against the back of jieun's head as he said
Jongho : there isn't a universe in this world where I wouldn't want you, jieun. Not a second in my life have I not thought of you, all I have done I have done for you.
Jieun sniffled as jongho pulled back, cupping jieun's face as he whispered
Jongho : I'm going to give you my everything now. Not just…not just material things but my time, and my love. That's going to be my resolution, because I can't afford to lose you again.
Jieun smiled, looking into jongho's eyes as she whispered
Jieun : then kiss me, we have to seal the resolution, right?
Jongho chuckled, leaning forward as he connected his lips with hers. And as jieun wrapped her arms around jongho's neck, pulling him closer to the kiss, fireworks burst around them, casting the entire place with a dreamy glow.
And just like that, on the new year began a new story.
