Little Jorge frustrated with the bike

Curiously, despite its high speed nature, the way Phillip Island flows through the fast turns means that it is not known as a horsepower track. Of course, the riders with a power advantage will find passing down the main straight much easier, but for outright lap times and  over race distance, top speed here is less vital than most would imagine. The fastest ever lap of Phillip Island by a motorcycle was recorded by Jorge Lorenzo on a Yamaha way back in 2013, his 1m27.899 for pole position remains the outright benchmark.

The fastest race lap was also set that year on what was then a freshly resurfaced track. Marc Marquez is the holder of the race lap record at 1m28.108, also set that year, 2013.

The race that year (2013) was quite controversial…. The grip of the new surface had seen tyre supplier Bridgestone caught out and the Japanese tyre manufacturer could not guarantee that their tyres would last more than ten laps. Thus the 2013 Australian GP was turned into an essentially two-part encounter over 19 laps, compared to the originally scheduled 27-lap distance. Riders were instructed to pit for new rubber after no more than ten laps. However, the Repsol Honda crew failed to bring Marquez in soon enough as they misunderstood the instructions, believing that Marquez could do ten laps and then pit for new rubber on lap 11. Marquez did that and rejoined the race right behind Lorenzo. However, Marquez was subsequently black flagged and disqualified from the race… Lorenzo went on to win with Dani Pedrosa second and Valentino Rossi third. #australiangp #phillipisland #phillipislandcircuit #jorgelorenzo #yamaha 📸 @ajrn_sp (at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjjumfwLcrn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Adios Jorge!
Tumblr media
“Rossi and I love each other when we’re far apart - he jokes - when we’re together, things change. I think it’s normal, as when we were in Yamaha together we both wanted to fight for the win and so the rivalry between us was only natural”. - Jorge Lorenzo,November 14th 2019-
Source: gpone.com
I didn’t expect anything from the last motogp race this 2019 season other than Vale getting on podium. Just wanted to enjoy the last race of the season as much as we can. I think that’s what the fans and everyone in the paddock would like to do. But, this race weekend turn out differently for motogp. There was unexpectedly news from five time world champion, Jorge Lorenzo. He decided to retiring at the end of the season as professional racer.
It all begin with an update from Motogp that there will be another press conference from Jorge and accompanied by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta held before the regular press conference. It quite shocking me up and the rest of motogp fan and journalists as there were many news and speculations on social media. I feel so emotional knowing that the news might be an announcement of Jorge’s retirement and still had positive assumption that it might be a corner named after him, which then i realize he already had it in Jerez.
Then the retirement assumptions become reality. It quite made me emotional even clearly i’m not his fan but really respect him as one of Vale’s greatest rivals and maybe best teammate which make Yamaha having their golden moments back then when they were together as Jorge and Vale push each other so Yamaha was become the best team for several years. Well, riders will be retired including Jorge and Vale definitely, but i really didn’t expect that Jorge will did it this early. That’s what i felt too, back when Dani Pedrosa retired last year, but i expect Jorge for more years because yeah he’s a strong rider, tough competitor and make motogp races more fun because of iconic battles with other riders, including Vale.
Catalunya battle in 2009 with Vale was my favorite all the time, even Vale agree with that saying it his best memories with Jorge. Other than he’s a strong rider, i think everyone still curious about his battle with Marc using Honda engine as that what we all expect for this 2019 season. Also, his improvement on his second year with Ducati at the last part of the season is something that give us and well myself that he could be competitive too on his second year with Honda. Its a bit sad, because he ended his motogp career with quite bad condition, but I respect his decision and well he got five world titles, and he had big achievements which only few riders now on the grid have done it. For Jorge’s fan, i fell for you guys and maybe few years later i’ll feel the same thing.

Jorge Lorenzo talks joining the Repsol Honda Team
11 years in MotoGP™, winner of five World Championships, 282 races, 31 years old. Jorge Lorenzo starts a new challenge in 2019 when he joins the Repsol Honda Team. Just over two months before the season gets underway in Qatar, the Spanish rider gives his first interview to analyse his initial impressions of the Honda RC213V, talk about what it means to be part of his new team and outline his ambitions for the year.
How do you like the new colours? “I like the colours. My favourite colours have always been white, red and black, and now we can add orange to that. They are colours that represent success, with many victories and many World Championships over the last 25 years. I am very proud to belong to this family and be able to contribute to making the team even stronger.”
What does it mean to you to belong to the Repsol Honda Team? “Repsol Honda may be the most successful team in history. They have the most victories and titles. To compare them with a football team, they would be a Barça or a Real Madrid. There is no team with more titles and more importance worldwide than this one.”
What did you think the first time you tried your new bike? “Last season I rode a completely different bike, that was very big and very tall. Maybe it was a little too big for me. The Honda suits me better in terms of its dimensions. It is more compact, a smaller and lower bike, with which I can lean over better. I felt a little more confident when entering corners, because the closer you are to the ground, the more confidence you have. The first impression was positive and I saw a lot of potential there.”
When you got off the Honda for the first time, you did so with a big smile. What did you think when you entered the Repsol Honda Team box? “In those moments your expression speaks for itself. It’s all very exciting, very new and enjoyable. Also, if the initial feeling is good, you can tell even more from your expression.”
“One of the things that impressed me the most was the responsiveness of the Repsol Honda Team.”
Changes have already been made between the tests in Valencia and Jerez. What were they? “One of the things that impressed me most was the ability of the Repsol Honda Team to react, providing what you ask for. I was quite clear, Honda took note of all my indications and within a few days they had everything ready -and we had a fuel tank almost one hundred percent to my liking.”
You said you were going to learn from Marc Márquez, but that he would also learn from you. What do you think Marc can offer you and what can you provide for him? “All riders have our strengths and our weaknesses. Marc also has them. I will try to learn from his strengths, and I guess he will try to learn from mine. We will push each other; I will want to beat him and he will want to beat me, and that always makes the team grow and helps provide new technical progress for the bike.”
This year the Repsol Honda Team turns 25 and Repsol reaches 50 years sponsoring sports. What does this mean to you? “25 years is a long time. When Repsol began sponsoring the Honda team in 1995 was when I started watching motorcycle racing on television. I remember the fights between Harada and my idol Max Biaggi in 250cc, but also 500cc tussles between Crivillé and Doohan, when Rossi signed for Repsol Honda and when Nicky Hayden won the World Championship in 2006. It’s a very successful team, with many victories and world titles, and now I will have the honour and pleasure of being able to belong to it.
“50 years is an extremely long time. I think that Ángel Nieto was one of the first sportsmen who Repsol sponsored. He was the first in Spain, and the person who boosted the sport in this country. It’s amazing that Repsol were there supporting him at that time.”
The team presentation is on the 23rd of January in Madrid. Is it a day filled with a lot of anticipation? “The presentation will be very special for me. I think it is generating a lot of expectation because combined we have twelve World Championships and many victories. Above all, there is a lot of talent and a lot of speed within the most decorated team in history. The expectation and optimism is great and we are going to enjoy ourselves that day.”
Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez will debut their full 2019 colours alongside the RC213V in Madrid of January 23.
