OC map 2024!
It was not long ago since Valedale been updated and it shows. Many OCs have moved there.
I have not included OCs from the old map as I didnt have access to the old file and I dont want to jump between multiple posts to get names and photos because that was just too confusing. I have done a google doc list with the Ocs so next update will be easier. But even if I didnt include OCs from the old post, we went from 73 to 95 Ocs, the population is growing.
I will not update this untill a new area been updated or added. But if anyone sees spell mistakes or wrong infomation given for ocs I can edit that. But I will not fix the map pic.

anon is right, more hunter lore.
he's very fun. love your ideas.
Do you mind if I ask what goes on regarding all the magic stuff? Is he Aideen-adjacent or just kind of vibing? Somewhere in-between? I know there's some drama going on with Sabine 🤔

I wasn't expecting my guy to get this much attention, thank you guys!
Going to be completely honest here: I'm a very new player who only really started playing SSO in January of this year, and took about a month's break from the main quests in March. As a result, I've almost definitely forgotten a lot of important lore surrounding Aideen/soul rider magic, and don't have many of the magical shenanigans in Hunter's story fully thought out :'))
But! It has definitely been on my mind. Hunter's specific role among the soul riders + his relationship with the different circles of magic are works in progress so here's what I've been working with so far!
(Content warning for some (pink) blood in image!)
Lately, I've been messing with the idea (just for fun) that Hunter's a conduit for Aideen, rather than a descendant or reincarnation. He has almost no magical power of his own, and relies pretty much entirely on the whims of an incorporeal, deity-like being to perform any kind of soul rider magic. Essentially, he gets partially possessed every now and again when what remains of Aideen's soul decides that it would be beneficial to the fate of Jorvik and/or its inhabitants. During this "possession", Hunter functions as a point at which her soul (which I think was supposed to be scattered among the horses, people, and nature of Jorvik? correct me if I'm wrong. Hunter's lore google doc is in dire need of revision and organization anyways) can condense enough to produce magic from any of the four circles, and create the illusion that he's the mystical fifth soul rider.
Other bits of this idea from the google doc:
The four runestones in Valedale respond to a concentrated "presence" of Aideen, rather than to Hunter himself.
He's aware of this. Aideen's not of this world in cannon (emerged from a falling star), and practically dissolved into the entire island of Jorvik. Containing even a fraction of her soul in a human body is a jarring experience that can cause a lot of issues for the "host" ranging from minor side effects (cold sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, mild nausea, etc.) to more severe (short memory gaps, nosebleeds, migraines, loss of consciousness, insomnia, severe nausea, visual disturbances and/or hallucinations, auditory disturbances and/or hallucinations, etc.).
Maybe losing so much of his memory and original personality in the process of getting to Jorvik counts as losing part of a soul? So it creates a kind of "empty space" that Aideen's own soul is able to fill whenever she so chooses, and that's why Hunter works as a conduit/vessel, rather than a reincarnation. Idk. May have to workshop this.
The soul riders, valiant reincarnations of previous soul riders. +This one guy who has a weird thing with the local deity
Hunter and Aideen have a similar relationship to roommates who butt heads frequently but have no intention of leaving to seek a better roommate. but in Hunter's brain/soul/body. Bodymates. Soulmates (derogatory) (not romantic) (not platonic either). Symbiotic relationship. Both parties benefit and Hunter recognizes the necessity of it for saving Jorvik but he's still having a very bad no good time with the side effects, and he's still mad at her for letting him die.
This is the idea that I like working with the most so far, but I'll update y'all if there's something better in the works! :^D
As for Sabine: I was in a weird headspace while making that little comic of Hunter and Sabine up in Dinosaur Valley. At the time, it was just intended to be the end of Hunter's story. He'd be a spooky character who haunts the forest up in the valley as a ghost and that's that. Maybe the world's doomed by Garnok now, maybe the keepers find someone to replace him. Hunter doesn't know, he's dead on a mountainside and doomed to spend eternity wandering in search of an escape from Sabine.
A couple weeks after making that scene, I decided I didn't want that to be the end of his story. Just because it's kind of sad :( As much as I delight in making Hunter's wildly out of place string of crimes for a backstory, and making him experience endless horrors, Star Stable's very much a happy game for me. It's something I couldn't afford as a 10 year old but desperately wanted, and bought for myself with adult money a decade later to live out some old horseboy dream with beloved pixel horsies. :) To end my first (and so far only) player character's story there feels like a disservice, so I've got that scenario tucked away as a sort of AU/alternate timeline thing. It's still very fun to draw and think about because I love giving characters horrors to experience, but I want him to keep going on horse adventures in Jorvik :D
I decided that he does in fact die there in the Hidden Valley though. Not many people can survive that kind of thing after all. Aideen, however, decides she doesn't want to lose her vessel just yet, and Hunter's resurrected through a combination of the power of horsies and friendship Aideen's connection to the star circle and WizardEgg's (Starter horse) Starbreed magics. Magical resurrection results in the ability to channel more of Aideen's magic, but also the worsening of side effects, and a glowing star-shaped scar on his forehead that appears when using said magic.
^Old doodle from when I was playing around with negative side effects of magic :)
The whole scene creates a point of tension between he and Aideen. Hunter thinks Aideen could have done more to prevent it, and isn't particularly fond of the new, worsened magical side effects. Aideen isn't mortal and so doesn't think the way mortals do. She sees her vessel as having gained more power, and knows he'll come to understand the value of that power in the future. She's right, but he's still going to be mad about it.
As for Sabine? Hunter's still scared of her! Her and all the dark riders! They're spooky 👻 and he's a bit of a coward! Hunter lost a lot of his nerve/confidence with his memories during the boating incident, along with coordination and a couple other odds and ends.
#Thank you for the ask and sorry for delay!!! I've been working on a big thing for the Jorvik Pride event! This was fun :DDDD#SSO's magic lore is super cool but I sadly don't remember a ton of cannon info :((#sso oc#my art#cw blood#oc asks#Hope this answer's alright :') partway through it feels like I got lost in the sauce

🌞 do you have any little sso headcanons you'd be comfortable sharing? or just one perhaps? 👉👈💕
thank you for the ask anon!! it was super sweet of you :)
-mario didnt believe in magic at all before coming to jorvik, and he and elizabeth had a friendly rivalry for a long time ("you know i could probably help reinforce the observatory bridge" "what, with a spell?" "no, with wood ✨") and once mario actually saw it for the first time he went to elizabeth's house and had a "wtaf is my life" session with (heavily alcoholic) tea
-in that same vein, i think that it probably gets very lonely up on the mountaintop especially with elizabeth not coming up anymore. so mario and the spymaster spend a lot of time together now and are friends and neighbors, and the squirrels sometimes help mario with his chores!
-oldie but a goodie, the secret ufo belonged to fripp
-horses born in jorvik naturally are more attuned to their bonded riders and have a little more intelligence than horses born in other parts of the world. this has caused a lot of debate over whether or not jorvegian born horses should be allowed in competitions. this isn't a huge issue though because horses born on jorvik rarely leave jorvik. and horses that come to jorvik end up developing that stuff naturally 🩵
-ive posted abt this before but i really like it: the in-universe reason why questlines are so inconsistent and spotty after all the retcons and plot changes is actually because MC is just now awakening their moon circle abilities and isn't trained with them yet, causing them to see into alternate realities and timelines. which explains why sometimes you can see anne and lisa at events before you save them, or why sometimes anne has been missing for a week, or a month, or a year
-derek, justin, and maya are close friends :) they're all in the same group of 'dealt with weird magic stuff and care about the people involved, but aren't/are no longer involved themselves' so i think they would all bond over that! plus with maya having worked with the moorlands for so long, and them all being around the same age i like to think maya and justin grew up together, and im pretty sure derek moved to jorvik during ssl (so highschool) so im not sure how he would have met them...!! maybe through just delivering stuff to moorland or through the soul riders' shenanigans??
-erissa and madison are best friends :)
thats all i have off the top of my head!! im sure i have loads more ive forgotten...maybe ill just have to make more posts like this when i remember them haha ^^
#ps abt ur second ask anon: dont worry i didnt think it was pushy at all!!#it was very sweet of you thank you :)) 🩵#star stable

Volume V of The Completely Unerotic Adventures of Brother Cellanus is now up!
I've already posted three chapters.
After getting into a very loud, public argument with Hervör in the marketplace, Brother Cellanus takes her words about not doing anything about the brothel in Mamecaster to heart. And he does something about it! …And that something goes horribly wrong. Due to the nature of this sin and all the other shenanigans Brother Cellanus has been up to the past year, he risks being excommunicated! Brother Cellanus must go to the Archbishop of Jorvik and grovel. Luckily for him, the Archbishop won’t excommunicate him, but he also refuses to give him absolution for his sins and forbids any priests under his jurisdiction to do so either! Now Brother Cellanus must travel down south to seek absolution from the Archbishop of Cantwaraburg, lest his soul be damned to Hell. Luckily, Father Abbot has permitted Brother Felix, Brother Cellanus’s crush and closest companion, to attend him and keep him out of trouble. Receiving absolution is more difficult than Brother Cellanus anticipated.

Venor has not been on Jorvik for too long yet, having arrived only back in February. He's been hearing talk of the Equestrian Festival for some time already - and more recently, some world-ending crab nonsense - but he never expected the event to be this big.
The weather was not ideal; what was supposed to be warm spring weather was cold, foggy, and rainy. That didn't stop the festivities in the slightest however, and it didn't stop people from all over Jorvik and beyond from attending either.
Most days, Venor had found Jorvik stables to be quiet and perhaps a bit vacant, it wasn't often he ran into many other riders until now. He'd never seen the place so crowded with countless people and horses, all gathered in their passion for equestrian culture.
Venor was awestruck by it all, how wonderfully decorated the place was and thoroughly enjoying the people-watching. The baroness was even going to make an appearance apparently, looking for the fiercest competitor around by the way he understood it. He wouldn't concern himself with the matter, that certainly wasn't going to be him. He and his pony had only just begun forging their bond, and with Flicker's notable lack of energy even with all this business going on, he doubted their ability to win anything big together.
What he was concerned with was dressage. He heard some experienced dressage instructors were here for the festival, which was perfect for him. He had been wanting to get Flicker started in that discipline since he began working with the pony, so this was very convenient timing. While he was fairly experienced himself, he was always open to an extra helping hand and an opportunity to learn.
[No doodles here today! I wrote this bit and actually had no clue what I wanted to draw for it, so I just edited some scenery instead ^w^ More festival shenanigans are on the way though! Guess who gets to meet Sabine for the first time?~]

Welcome! To Manda Tries To Talk About One of Her SSO OCs Without Spoiling Her Longfic!
So, now that Dorian's little poll thing trend is going around I really felt an itch to talk about my horse game OCs. One problem, however, I'm the author of a lore heavy, rewrite fic of which one of my OCs is the main character of. Nevertheless, my other OC works off of the exact same lore foundation, meaning that talking about her Too will get slightly dodgy and weavy. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna try though! (This gets long, I love talking about writing and characters. You all know that my longfic is insanely long already. You have been warned.)
Introducing; Freyja Winterbird!
Freyja is my NA Alt, and is just like Deia, not actually named her proper name in-game. Her "actual" name is Amanda Winterbird, but just like Deia, the Amanda is only there because Amanda is me, and that's not their canonical names regardless. (Not to mention, their names don't exist in game-) I instead like to think that Amanda is my OCs' first name, while their middle names are their actual given names, meaning that Freyja's "official" name would be Amanda Freyja Winterbird.
I generally worked very closely to canon when I created my horse game OCs. That is to say, as one might notice, Deia is inspired by the old intro text, and Freyja is somewhat inspired by a rework of Deia's circumstances. I also have their actual story arcs work very closely to canon, but naturally, I cannot go into details about that given that that's what a certain fanfic of mine is about. (Read A Quintessential Jorvegian Summer Vacation To Find Out More-) This is usually the exception though, given that all of my original stories originally come from me reworking a work I already enjoy, and dodging copyright laws by making it completely unrecognizeable. My SSO OCs are actually SSO OCs though, and not simply original characters of mine in an original universe, so they don't have as heavy reworks as my other OCs, naturally. That is to say, I change a lot, but not too much for once, while cherry picking what I want to keep and throwing the rest out head first.
Freyja's actual lore is that she is a mirror version of Deia. Think alternate universe, same person, different individual type of thing. Freyja and Deia are ultimately different people, they just exist in each others roles in different timelines, if you will. Which is to say they don't exist in the same universe, except when I want them to for funky and fun content shenanigans. But the general idea is that everything that Deia is, Freyja is too, and everything Deia experiences, kind of, Freyja experiences too, sort of, they simply do them in different ways, take different things from them, and are ultimately different people.
For example! The biggest difference is that while Deia is not from Jorvik, Freyja is born on Jorvik. She's from above the map, if you will, which is to say somewhere from northern Jorvik (details omitted for my own personal convenience), but ends up working at Moorland Stables for a summer, because the stable she usually works at lowkey kicks her out because the stable owner/Freyja's boss thinks it "would be good for her to get away for a bit". Freyja is similarly to Deia rather snarky and relatively pessimistic. Freyja, however, is a lot better at social interaction, and has actual manners. Freyja is also a lot more outgoing and generally friendly, and keeps most of her hostility to herself.
Why Freyja has these pessimisms at all I cannot really talk about, given that since Freyja and Deia share lore, Freyja's backstory works off of details that are also present in Deia's story. Their backstory's are incredibly different, but Freyja's is actually more intertwined with my personal lore, which means that it's actually a bigger spoiler than Deia's backstory, which is only a spoiler because I am setting it up as a future reveal. Let's just say that Freyja has taken the wrong lessons from past upsetting experiences, and is now an expert at bad faith interpreting everything and everyone. (And unlike Deia, Freyja is not semi-verbal.)
While Deia is around 18/19, I imagine Freyja to be slightly older, think 21/22, and while Deia is 157cm, Freyja is 176 instead. And of course, Deia has white hair, and Freyja has black. Which was intentional on my part, yes. I am The achromatic and I refuse to stop. Freyja works with horses full time, and Moorland's riding camp is simply the next stop on her list, while Deia simply takes the job offer at Moorland to [redacted], and will only work there until the school term starts. They also have different birthdays, which is the 3rd of December for Deia, and Freyja's is 27th of November, because those are the dates their respective accounts were created. With a solid year difference of [checks notes] 12 years!
The biggest similarity, of course, is that Deia and Freyja both ride the same horse. Both of them ride a mare named Moonlight, who is the same individual regardless. The main difference between Deia's Moonlight and Freyja's Moonlight is in dynamic with her respective rider, and her personality. While Deia and Moon get along really well and are two old bitches in crime, Freyja is initially dismissive of Moonlight, and it takes some time for the two of them to get along. Moonlight also has different circumstances in her whys, hows, and whens, of course, but that is spoilers so heavy going into Any detail will spoiler Most of the endgame of QuintSum as such. Why Freyja and Moon don't get along initially is, once again, because of Freyja's backstory which spoils details about Deia's Moonlight in QuintSum, so I cannot go into detail, but they have different dynamics with their respective Moonlights. (The biggest difference being Freyja knowing Jorvik's mythology, while Deia doesn't, hint hint.) Moonlight herself is a rather tall mare, standing at 163 at the withers, because I Love bigger horses, and I can do whatever I want. (I imagine her build to be leaning Irish Draught because whoboi do I Love Irish Draughts.) She has long, curly mane and tail, but otherwise looks pretty much exactly the way she does in-game. The tack she wears is also her "canonical" tack in QuintSum, because it is my favourite tack on the JWB.
(I will say, though, I vastly prefer Deia and Moonlight's dynamic, and I'm very glad it's Deia I'm writing the fic about. If we ignore that Deia is my baby who I've had for most of my life, and that Freyja has existed for a whopping three months. I simply believe Deia has the more interesting perspective story wise. Not to mention how Freyja has too much knowledge to reasonably pull QuintSum's set-up off, and the story itself would be Vastly less interesting had the Literal Protagonist known almost everything from the start-)
And before you ask, no, making Deia and Freyja's names rhyme was not intentional, I simply really enjoy the name Freyja (specifically with that spelling in particular), and Deia has had that name for years by now. I think it's pretty funny though!
Sorry for clogging your dash, thank you for reading me ramble about character writing, and come back once QuintSum is finished (or read it if you don't have the patience of a saint) for Deia's character bio, because the lord knows I'm going to Never shut up about Deia once I can fully talk about her on main.

🌻 [SUNFLOWER]
🏚 [ABANDONED BUILDING]
🔒 [LOCK]
HELLO HI THANK YOU FOR THE ASK (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
(Read more bc I started rambling)
🌻 [SUNFLOWER] What is your Original Characters favorite thing to do on Jorvik? Are they someone who enjoys trail rides? Are they a competitor? What is it that they love spending their time on?
Trail rides. Her favorite are the ones where you leave for a couple of days and camp outside. No worries, just you, your friends and your horses, snacks, bone-fires and silly shenanigans.
🏚 [ABANDONED BUILDING] How is your Original Character's relationship to the Moorland family and Justin, since that is where their story (potentially) started and kept coming back to?
OH BOY. EHE. I'm so glad I get to rant about this.
So. Okay. Justin and her are childhood bffs estranged who reconnected when she came back to Jorvik. As for what those two feel for each other
The simple answer is it's complicated.
The longer answer is Montana isn't sure what she's feeling. She's never had a serious relationship in her life, just some one-night-stands, so it's all very confusing for her. Sometimes she acts on those feelings, other times she tries to push them down. She gets overwhelmed when it comes to dealing with the situation and as a result both her and Justin end up hurt.
As for Justin, he knows he likes her more than just a friend. He isn't entirely confident how much he likes her, but it goes beyond best friends or simply platonic feelings. He has a hard time saying no to her because he knows she's confused and wants to help. And he doesn't mind it either, he just wishes she could give him a clear answer on what they are.
As for Thomas, he's basically an uncle figure for her. In exchange for helping out as a stable hand and generally helping out with building and fixing furniture he lets her stay in the attic (which she renovated herself, after all homegirl did do an apprenticeship as a carpenter at some point)
🔒 [LOCK] What is your Original Character's relationship to the Keepers of Aideen, the Sisterhood, and Aideen in general?
At the start she's wary of the Keepers at best. She doesn't trust them and makes no secret out of it. After that whole imprisoning Justin thing? No trust at all. A few people like Elizabeth or Evergray she still trusts to some extend, but the whole organization itself not.
The sisterhood is not as bad, seeing as her and Alex actually do get along quite well. Lisa and Linda can be categorized as good acquaintances. Anne and her managed to bond over their shared hatred of dark core. But even tho getting along with the separate members just fine, Montana doesn't see herself as part of the sisterhood or friendship. She always feels like she's just a temporary replacement for Anne in the group and keeps her distance from them as a result. They're already an established group and her suddenly being there feels like she's intruding on her side.
Aiden is like, super duper weird for her. In my story, the keepers believe Montana to be one of the reincarnations of Aideen. This goddess who she hear all about in her childhood is supposed to be her in an earlier life? Yeah, no, that's batshit crazy. (She isn't actually Aideen reincarnated, it's more like a "concept of power being passed down" kinda thing. Think the avatar being randomly chosen but instead of going through types of benders it's the cosmos choosing which Jorvigian (how tf do you spell that-) is going to be the best suited for that generation. All that info the characters obviously don't know lol)

And if it's applicable, 💭
🪄 [MAGIC WAND] -> Does your Original Character know about the magic powers existing across Jorvik? Do they know of the Sisterhood and the Keepers, of the Herds in Wild Woods, or Pandoria? If not, how do they explain some of the things happening around them (e.g. whatever Devil's Gap got going after the latest Main Quest)?
yes! i would consider nova's story to be by and large compliant with the player character's canon, meaning she's aware of all magic shenanigans to the extent that MC is in canon. she is also distinctly well acquainted with the herds of the wildwoods, after living among them for several weeks.
💭 [THOUGHT BUBBLE] -> What are your Original Character's overall thoughts to what is going on on Jorvik? Are they tired of this 'war' or are they desperate to save the island?
nova is sick of this shit!!! she hates working for the keepers of aideen, but feels too embroiled in the goings-on to back out. she's also irrevocably in love with alex, which is a whole different can of worms, but it's one of the things keeping her tethered to the conflict. in essence, she doesn't like or trust the keepers, but she'd rather not let a multi dimensional being rend her entire life asunder. i dont think she's considered this (or, if she has, would ever admit the truth to herself), but, honestly, i dont think nova knows who she is outside of this conflict.

"also what is jor's flame" you ask, it was probably just named after the fact. or, possibly, -cracks nerd knuckles,-
because the old norse word jór means equine, or horse, and since aideen was a horse goddess and jorvik is based on mostly norse mythos (+ yk the whole viking occupation) they (ssohq) picked that name for it because it'd translate to "horse flame" and jorvik (the islands) name actually has TWO origins both as "horse bay" (the literal translation) and Jon Jarls shenanigans-
HOW. HOW DID SHE PLAY THE HAR-*gunshot*
#sorry about that i uh#i uh had to do research on old norse and got all nerdy#but yea fun facts amiright

🌊, 🍪, 🗡️, and 🌈 for the ask game for hunter!
Thank you for the ask!! :^DD
🌊 - Does this oc have a secret or repressed desire?
Concerning the main story: He doesn't trust Fripp in the slightest, and has been (unsuccessfully) trying to figure out what the Keepers' "real goals" are without them catching on to his lack of faith in the deity that he shares a body with.
Psychologically?: Hunter grew up around a community whose people did not take kindly to many aspects of his being. Despite losing so much of who he was before, the distinct feeling of alienation to everyone around him remained-- even if he doesn't remember why. He'd never say it out loud, and probably doesn't even realize it, but Hunter had a lot of repressed desire for human connection-- going as far as to try substituting it for the bond he shares with horses and a fondness for isolation in nature.
Over time, that repression's slowly done away with :) through the ✨🐎power of friendship and horsies🐎✨ human kindness and animal companionship. The horses keep him busy with their loving shenanigans, and slowly, Hunter meets riders all over Jorvik whose kindness and pride in who they are make him realize he's not so alone in the world.
Not to mention Mr.Trout of the fishing club, who sees to it that he's always got something of a home that Hunter can return to at the bunkhouse.
There's even a little photo commemorating the day Mr.Evil was finally caught stuck to the shared refrigerator, alongside photos of other club members and impressive catches from years gone by.
🍪 - What are their favorite scents?
Fresh hay, grilling fish, nature smells (damp soil, river, moss, etc.), and horse smell. No, not manure. Horse smell.
I don't know if anyone else has just buried their face in the fluffy fur of a freshly groomed horse and taken a deep breath in, but it's fantastic. It's warm and sweet and a little dusty. If horse smell has a million fans, I'm one of them. If horse smell has 5 fans, I'm one of them. If horse smell has one fan, that one is me. If horse smell has no fans? I'm no longer alive. This last one's about 90% projecting but it has to be said. Besides, given that his horses are a source of comfort and companionship, I think Hunter would like horse smell as much as I do :^) maybe even more.
🗡️ - Does this oc have a signature object, accessory, or weapon?
None that immediately come to mind, actually :^O
I put him in a few different outfits now and again, but if I had to choose, maybe the black leather chaps as an accessory? It's the thing he wears the most in-game.
🌈 - Do you associate any colors with them?
Alright, this is a weird one. There's no in-depth explanation for it, but for some reason, I almost always associate Hunter with the warm orange glow of a sodium-vapor street light.
