This was the sunset on the Mon the day B4 summer solstice. The word Solstice is derived from 2 Latin words. Sol means sun & Sistere means 2 stand still. So during both Dec & June solstices the sun reverses its apparent yearly North-South motion.

The summer solstice marks the 1st day of astronomical summer & midway between 2 equinox’s. We R exactly 1/2 way thru the yr. 4 many summer solstice is a day 2 celebrate. Solstice begins June 21, 2022 @ 10 am BST (British Standard Time). In Ottawa, Canada solstice begins at 5:13 am this year.

Without the earths 23.4° tilt to the sun there wouldn’t be seasons like we know them. There would be climate zones but not the kinds of seasons we R familiar with. Without the tilt to the sun the suns position would remain above the equator all year round.

All you need to know: June solstice 2019

Solstices occur on 20th or 21st June and 21st or 22nd December each year. During summer the day of the solstice is the longest day of the year and during winter the day of the solstice is the shortest day of the year.

During June it is Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Southern hemisphere. In other words during June Solstice it is summer time in the UK, the USA, Canada, Russia, India and China and it is the longest day of the year while it is winter time in Australia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa and it is the shortest day of the year. Similarly during December it is Winter Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Summer Solstice in the Southern hemisphere. In other words during December Solstice it is winter time in the UK, the USA, Canada, Russia, India and China and it is the shortest day of the year while it is summer time in Australia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa and it is the longest day of the year.
