So a while back, I decided to make a spreadsheet listing all of the franchises/series/properties/etc. that I have a special attachment to, along with specific elements/aspects that I particularly enjoy in the media I consume, in order to see if there was any one variable all of them had in common.

It ended up looking like this:

I added the year I got interested in each property as well, and it’s been funny to see the progression - you can see how it starts with the movies my parents showed me at the beginning, then the video games my friends introduced me to (or that I fortuitously found out about after skipping vacation bible school one day but the full version of that story is for another time), then my special interests growing out of a mix of those...then that little stretch in 2020-2021 where I started dipping my toes into things out of morbid curiosity and getting genuinely invested in them whoops

 Anyway, I wanted to share this in case anyone else is interested in creating something like this. I think it’d be so fun to see what other people consider to be the most appealing aspects of the things they’re into, as well as how their tastes evolved over time!

Jurassic Park - I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid. My parents were like, “Hmm, she might like this - we’ll just make her cover her eyes for the scene where the T-rex eats that guy off of the toilet.”

Star Wars - Parents bought me Lego Star Wars for the Wii because THEY liked Star Wars but I had no clue what was going on, walked in on them watching Episode V and they let me stick around

Pokémon - All my closest friends were into it but I wasn’t allowed to play until finally my parents caved and let me get a DS and a copy of Platinum. Easily the franchise I am the most invested in ahaha

Sonic - Went to the phone store with my mom and they had a mobile version of Sonic 2 on one of the demo phones. Went home and got it on virtual console, literally defined how I play video games now

Mega Man - Picked up a copy of Nintendo Power (RIP) because it had Mewtwo on the cover. Featured character was Zero. His design activated all the neurons in my brain so I read everything I could about him and eventually got into the games, and now Mega Man characters own the deed to my house and my firstborn child

FNAF - Friend showed me a video of a playthrough at my parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. Scared the pants off of me. Couldn’t stop watching it.

Alien/Aliens - The Great Movie Ride at Disney, but specifically the waiting room where they play the trailers for the movies (I closed my eyes during the actual Alien section of the ride because it freaked me the heck out). That trailer stuck in my brain and one day I just decided I wanted to watch it. I’ve never mentioned them before but I need y’all to understand that these are my favorite movies of all time and I literally wrote a college essay about why they are so good

Metroid - Saw Samus in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and thought she was super cool. Got an SNES Classic for Christmas and tried out Super Metroid...instantly hooked. One of the most amazing games in the universe you guys

The Thing - Dad was like, “Oh yeah I watched that in theaters when I was 12 it’s great let’s watch it.” I couldn’t look my own dog in the eyes for three days.

Terminator - Wanted to check out more 80′s sci-fi. Plus Michael Biehn. Love Michael Biehn.

Twilight - Me and a close friend (neither of whom had grown up reading these) decided to watch the first one as a joke. Got invested. Ended up watching them all. Now I write Mega Man/Twilight fanfiction. Beware what you do ironically, folks.

Homestuck - Was vaguely aware of it for years but (like most people) had no clue what it was about until the Sarah Z video. Decided to give it a try.

It checks almost every single box on this spreadsheet, so...there’s my defense for that, I guess.

The Locked Tomb - Everybody kept posting weird things about this book series and it sounded too crazy NOT to read

Subnautica - I love the ocean. I love space. I love aliens. I couldn’t get a copy of Pokémon Violet at Wal-Mart and wanted something new to play and it happened to be on the shelf.

🦕 Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Jurassic Park / Jurassic World film series! 🦖 I know there's still few months until the official release date of the first film but that didn't stop Disney/20th Century Studios with Titanic 25th Anniversary theatrical re-release and it does not certainly stop me. Jurassic Park is the most important film to me in the world with The Lord of the Rings trilogy and even though many of you might hate the sequels, I don't actually. My favorite pair of socks are mustard yellow, quarter-crew, and they have a bright blue triceratops on the sides. They're adorable and i love them sm

If it is a book that I actually own, I just dog ear it lol library or borrowed from a friend i use a bookmark tho

I collect Jurassic Park memorabilia! I've got a first edition of the book and the 25th-anniversary special release that I am quite fond of.

I prefer to write in pen.

i don't think there's necessarily a particular event i would like to witness, but i think it would be fun to live in regency times for like a day lol

• Went to livestream a Genesis tournament surrounding more Rivals content and fast gameplay mechanics • Secretly watched the first episode of Animaniacs on Hulu • Received a new ID so that I can safely get an AirTag myself • Afforded new accessories for my iPad Pro • Get a haircut in time for summer vacation • Live streamed a new webisode of Indie World despite receiving too much negative reviews • Finished all webisodes of The Boys DIABOLICAL on Amazon Prime Video • Live streamed Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers on Disney+ • Live streamed all experimental animated content found on Netflix before it kept getting laid off • Live streamed Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV+ • Tried out Barbasol and Aqua Velva for the first time by removing my unwanted mustache • Signed up for Ko-Fi • Tuned in to WWDC for the latest news about iPadOS 16 • Tuned in to the Summer Game Fest and Day of the Devs event • Watched Jurassic World Dominion in IMAX 3D at Regal Cinemas because... Pepsi • Bought Ranno's Frog Wash from Smashersoap • Celebrated my friends from TREASURE's 25th anniversary event by playing their select games on my Mega Drive mini • Went to try beignets for the first time at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express • Then made said beignets from scratch but with a twist • Went to experience Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland • Oversaw not just the return of Main Street Electrical Parade, but a nighttime dance area debut with a live DJ at It's a Small World • Revisited Buena Park Downtown after 14 years during my trip to Knott's • Tried Fatburger for the first time and it was amazing because again... Pepsi • Saw the Rise of Gru in cinemas since I now have my utmost respect for Universal Pictures • Grabbed a free Slurpee without checking those defending a liar • Oversaw the worldwide releases of Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series and Digimon Survive while waiting for the former to get a physical treatment (Going digital is for the weak) • Returned to Ensenada for the first time in three years after it was hit by Covid-19 restrictions • Saw the reveal trailer for Oppenheimer from Syncopy Inc. and Christopher Nolan (Again, utmost repsect to Universal) • Saw Luck just for Heimdall, Babe and other creature designs • Celebrated Ranno Day in style • Partaken South Park's 25th anniversary via a live concert • Tried out Buldak for the first time and it was insane (I suggest cold lemonade, ice cream and Pepto Bismol) • Afforded AirPods MAX so I don't need to cause loud noises • Improved my animation around August despite it being the worst • Tuned in to both the NIS Showcase and Ubisoft Forward • Oversaw game releases based on Midnight Fight Express, Metal Hellsinger, Shovel Knight DIG, TUNIC and Radiant Silvergun in September • Played Sonic CD for the first time on my iPad Pro • Tried out Papa Murphy's for the first time and it was awesome (Will do it again during Thanksgiving) • Finished all webisodes of BNA - Brand New Animal • Watched the premiere trailer of the Super Mario Bros. Movie at Comic-Con • Oversaw game releases such as No Man's Sky, Persona 5 Royal, Them's Fightin' Herds and Sparks of Hope • Connected my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to my iPad (FINALLY!) • Took home brushes and text fonts via Procreate during iPadOS 16.1's launch • Watched all 13 episodes of P&SwG each per day just for frantic action and insane art styles • Did early Christmas shopping • Focused hard on Stickybutter with scenes yet to be materialized in the future • Oversaw the worldwide release of it takes two on Switch (Thanks, Josef!) • Live streamed the Bad Guys on Netflix since I now officially hate direct-to-video • Watched Baymax!, I am Groot and On the Road via Disney+ that led me to my return • Got another haircut; this time, I wasn't caught with my bowl haircut in preparation for Christmas!

Whew! That was a hoot. Who wants hot chocolate? :)

A Look at the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Blu Ray Boxset!

2018 has been a great year for Jurassic Park fans – with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fast approaching, and the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary celebrations in full swing! We have events, merchandise, celebrations and so much more to look forward to – in addition to a slew of DVD releases! One such release, the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Blu Ray boxset, includes some exciting new concept artwork from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Friends of mine Dan (@dyingcorpse123 on Twitter) and his partner Léyla were lucky enough to get their hands on the beautiful new boxset a day before its release, and they have shared the artwork with the Jurassic fandom for all to see. Check out the below concept art – but be warned, it may contain spoilers for the upcoming movie!

Our first piece of concept artwork features something very like the most recent trailer – the Indoraptor being auctioned off in a room full of bidders.  The composition of this shot is very close to what we see in the final piece – with everything from the guards to the cage looking incredibly like the result. I’m excited to get a visual idea of how this artwork evolved into the final film. Next up, we have a look at the abandoned Jurassic World – and this shot, again, echoes much of what we see in the third trailer. Everything – from the Innovation Center to the Monorail, appears to be overgrown and in a state of disrepair. Here, very similarly to the final trailer, we see a collapsed monorail track – but it is also super cool to see the hotel structure descending into a state of disrepair as it begins to tumble inwards. Everything here looks super unique – and it is impressive how close the final piece matches up to the concept art envisioned beforehand.

We then, again, get a shot very like the final trailer – of the Mosasaur leaping out of the water to attack a person on a rope as they desperately attempt to escape to the helicopter above. It is, again, interesting to see the similarities here associated with the final content – although there are some clear distinctions hear such as the nature of the shot, the character’s apparel. The T-Rex in the backdrop is a nice touch here, and it helps us piece together what we all already believe may be happening within this sequence. I’m excited to see how the final composition comes together on our screens in just a few short weeks! And lastly, we have a lava-centric sequence which appears to represent Claire and either Owen or Franklin escaping from what we can assume is the Baryonyx. The Baryonyx looks funky here, but the artwork itself is very vibrant – looking very like the final location we see within the film and perhaps suggesting how our heroes may escape what seems to be certain peril.

So, overall, these are some cool pieces of artwork which emulate the final film we have seen nicely! I’m super excited to get my hands on these pieces of artwork – and I am excited to see how they transfer into the final film. Thanks once again to Dan and Léyla for sharing these awesome pieces of artwork – I think I speak for all when I say we appreciate it!

Hello, tumblr Jurassic friends!

Here’s my latest video that celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Jurassic Park, my favourite film of all time. It briefly covers the filming and release of the film, and how the world reacted to it. Plus, there’s a section at the end that shows how fans today are still inspired by this wonderful dinosaur movie.
