its taking so much self control not to search for all the messy trap, BJ, and hawk fics (that I hope exist!). also that bridget jones video is amazing, its so easy to forget how awkward real life fighting actually is lol. Im picturing BJ as darcy and trap as cleaver. side note, I also read your hawk/lyle and it was honestly so good, well written and soo hot!
oh hai, I didn't see you there!
EDIT: So this is not what your ask is about and I'm sorry, I went on a post-finale watching tangent, I apologise for not being funny anymore, even though the original post was light-hearted. GFA spoilers
*
It's funny, because now I've seen the finale, I feel like I need to wallow for a bit in the version of the story in which BJ and Hawkeye never see each other again.
It's got that sweet, sweet bitterness to it.
It's also funny, both my flatmate and my partner -- although I will hazard not to put words in their mouths -- are, let's say, not fond of BJ, because, well... he does many a highly questionably thing in response to the Horrors, especially to Hawkeye, but to me at least that ending, it's very much offering a final understanding of that character that softens him just a tad (to me, my feelings).
He undoubtedly, unthinkingly, several times messes up with Hawkeye within those two hours alone (which is worse: bringing up babies to the guy who's just had a breakdown brought on by the death of a baby, or leaving without a note, possibly knowing some element of the way that Trapper left, if not the entire thing???)
And then when Hawkeye, in a particularly harrowing way, reaches out to him (what would you do if I were bleeding out in your arms -- paraphrased) he brushes it off, because he's steadily become more depressed and therefore self-centred in how he gets through it all, and has used Hawkeye to project more than been able to look at him directly, to absorb any of Hawkeye's pain on top of his own. And here's Hawkeye invoking the most terrible, final goodbye he can think of, and BJ runs away from it. It's terrible!
And then!
And then he does it!
He does the one thing that Hawkeye asked of him, in the way he could do it. He left him a note. He made it as big as possible. He said the only thing that really needed to be said in it: goodbye.
Is it enough? After all of that? Maybe that's not really what the question can be (after all, a better man is not what Hawkeye's ever asked for from him, and in many ways BJ's bitterness about being a replacement for Hawkeye's pain about Trapper is not unfounded either -- the projection goes both ways, even if one is more overtly aggressive).
But he did it.
It's funny too, I was saying around s10 that I was really missing the big gestures of s7 -- I have yet to confirm on this my second watch (and feel free to let me know if there is an example I've forgotten), but I don't think BJ ever does anything as big for Hawkeye as he does in s7ep2, that sort of declaration, it was gargantuan in its scale and continued to exist in metaphor in those faded, pink pieces of clothing BJ kept for most of the rest of the show. I confess I missed the moment they were no longer there, but I believe at least not throughout the entirety of Goodbye, Farewell and Amen.
And this was a gesture, it was the thing I'd been wondering about the absence of and missing, and hoping BJ might in some way find it in himself to return to -- to not be so blinded by what he thinks he needs (to keep his eyes firmly on home and Peggy and Erin), but to value what he's had here, to value Hawkeye enough to grant him that goodbye.
SO after all of that thinking about BJ and Trapper potentially meeting (and tbh I think once I'm past this initial stage of just... sitting with the finale for 5 to 100000 business days, I will go back to thinking about it, the scenario is fantastic), I am currently, as it turns out in reaction to that ending, far more focused on the importance of goodbyes.

Ghost is observant. He's always been, even before it was his job. It kept him safe, safe from his father's worst moods, safe from bullies at school, safe from the inevitable deterioration of all of his relationships.
So when Soap starts acting suspicious he feels his heart start to sink. He's a big enough person to admit that he's been selfish with Soap, allowed himself to indulge in genuine companionship; allowed something dangerous to develop. But what choice does he have? The thought of leaving now and denying himself the simple warmth of John MacTavish is almost a physical pain. So it should be a relief when Johnny starts to pull away, it saves Ghost from being the one to do it. But for once in his long trail of broken hearts and slowly withering relationships, Ghost doesn't want it to end.
So he clings on. He seeks him out more often, snaps and snarls at the thought of Soap going out of his sight. He lays there listening as Soap wakes with a haunted scream, internally wrestling with himself until he gathers the courage to cross the hall and knock, his cheeks heating when Soap answers the door in just his boxers. He kicks himself when Soap redirects and prepares to bow out and take the dismissal respectfully when Johnny offers to come and sit with him and his traitorous heart soars in his chest. Soap is giving him this and he'll take it with gratitude. They sit together in the rec room for hours, watching the fish sleep peacefully until Soap has drifted off and his tea is in danger of spilling in his limp hand. He briefly considers taking Johnny back to his room but he rationalizes that there is a reason the Soap didn't want him in there and it really isn't his business. So he sits there and he observes. Simply watching the slight rise and fall of Johnny's chest as he sleeps on the tattered couch. Indulging in the domesticity of it all.
When a knock jars him awake in the middle of the night he's unsure what he expects but Soap delirious and bleeding was certainly not on the top of that list. A small lick of pride flares inside of him that Soap would come to him before medical, which brings with it quiet concerns and many questions. Still he brings Johnny inside and sits him gently on his bed, stepping into his bathroom to quickly grab his personal first aid kit.
Soap is saying something when he gets back, so deep in his accent that it doesn't even register as words. Kneeling on the floor in front of him, Ghost reverently takes his arm and starts to wipe at it with a damp cloth. Cleaning away the blood with quiet fervor, unsure just what could inflict such a wound on his Sergeant at this hour of the night. When the wound is revealed he flinches back.
Ghost is intimately acquainted with snake bites, has several scars buried deep in his collection that match the marks on Soap's arm, stretched and warped as they are from where he's grown since he got them.
And this is from a big fucking snake.
He looks up to Soap meets his eyes suddenly deathly sober.
"Just how'd you get this Soap?"

I'm on s4 of my The Americans rewatch and that scene when Philip has to tell Gabriel about how he's been going to EST and Gabriel and Elizabeth sort of gang up on him like what, do you want to talk about your feelings, Philip? Do you want to talk to a therapist? Why don't you just repress your emotions like the rest of us?? is so funny

It turns out that preparing nian gao the traditional way (aka the only way we've got here!) by steaming is quite the lengthy process, so they had plenty of time to hear alllll about sweet rice cake and other Lunar New Year food traditions from Octavia.
But Cherry doesn't mind. They've always loved learning about food and the stories behind it. It's what connects us to our past and the people we love.

Violet is canonically the most sarcastic and shade-imparting character in the Thea Stilton books.... I wish they put this personality more in the Special Edition books as well, cause she seems like such a scaredy cat in those
Also they've turned Paulina into the "smart one" and Violet into the "artistic one" when Paulina is actually the techy one and Violet is the smart one (walking encyclopedia, remember)
Also i kinda want a scene in a special edition book where Violet absolutely snaps and punches someone cause lord knows she's been dealt with the worst luck out of them all haha
First one, definitely agree. Violet kept her unashamed tendency to diss shade in the Italian books, but Scholastic seems to nerf or cut these when they can-- there's a scene in the first Treasure Seekers where she very cartoonishly (but relatably) shuts down the girls trying to take a million pictures of the same place in Scotland when she just wants to take a nap, but this scene was changed in English to be her just calmly saying "eh, I think we have enough pictures for one day, I just wanna sleep". I do love the little bits where Vi gets scared in the books because I love my blorbo and ngl her formerly loner ass turning to her friends for comfort is adorable to me, but she could use some shade. Maybe roast Sirius for his dem labyrinth that was a PITA to get past, or the Crystal Fairies because the mechanics of their world make literally no sense whatsoever (I will dissect the crap outa that world at some point, mark my words).
I mean, Paulina and Violet have always shared the role of the smart one since they both fulfill the same group role in different flavors that come in handy in different situations. As much as I love Violet being unable to rely on her book smarts because real life isn't as simple as words make things out to be and I find the results funny, it would be nice for Violet to be able to use her book smarts in a mythological context. Maybe some nice comparisons, maybe even some educated guessing using the general knowledge she's built up over the years? Both of them are smort, it's just that Paulina's been given the braincell more and more in the special editions.
And third, hi you caused a burst of inspiration that created this
A-and it went into brainrot limbo for a month or two
Whoops . .
Enjoy
Edit: OH YE UH IT'S READ RIGHT TO LEFT BECAUSE I'M PRACTICING MANGA FORMAT HAHA :'D I FORGOR TO BRING THIS UP
Tumblr media
With how wild her luck is in situations like these, feel free to imagine how this would turn out.
I'm so sorry for the late reply Anon, I hope you're still around and I hope you like it ^^'

I am being so legit when I say that the chapter we just had (with Gentle) is one of my favorites. I've been sitting on it and yeah, I love it so much.
Not only have I been expecting Gentle and La Brava to make a come back, but the way he did it was so GRAND.
Catching UA as it's falling out of the sky. Bouncing above the sea. Talking about protecting smiles like Izuku told him. La Brava I think powering him up? I'm unclear if she gave him a power boost in this chapter, but I can read it again and try to see. Gentle and La Bravas love "only growing stronger" while they were separated.
Izuku reacting to the realization that he is there and helping them. (Plus his reaction to Lady Nagant)
And the fact that he prevented the escape of a whole JAIL BY HIMSELF.
Gentle Criminal is just so great.

Between reading "The Gilda Stories" and re-reading "I Vampire" in the last three years, I've grown irascible and joyfully picky about my vampires.
Interview who??? Surely y'all aren't satisfied with live-action Lestat. The man should be more wild and deep and philosophically tortured. Do yourself a favour and pick up some novellas including or focused on lesbian vampires. Thank you.
