Exploring Different Types of Medals and Ribbons: A Comprehensive Guide
Medals and ribbons are often used as a form of recognition and honour. You would see them in annual day events at schools and colleges when students are awarded medals for their academic and extra-curricular achievements. Sometimes these medals are hanging from a ribbon worn around the neck.
Tumblr media
At other times, the ribbon alone could serve as a recognition of the special status of the individual who is wearing it. For example, ribbons are used by military personnel on their uniform daily while medals are worn on special occasions. In the corporate world, both medals and ribbons are used to recognise and honour extraordinary achievements.
When it comes to buying cheap medals or ribbons in Australia, where do you go? You may not find many reputable stores where high-quality medals and ribbons can be found at cost-effective prices. However, it’s not that you will not find such stores at all; although very few, they exist nevertheless.
For example, you would like to consider buying medals and ribbons at Olympia Trophies Corporate which provides corporate awards, trophies, medals, plaques, badges, cups, specialist services, and corporate gifts. You can buy medals and other award items online and get them delivered to your doorsteps across Australia.
In this post, we will discuss different types of medals and ribbons used in corporate and other award functions.
Types of Medals
A small piece of round metal or some other material such as crystal can symbolize success and achievement. It’s very common to see people awarded with first–, second-, or third-place medals. Here is a brief rundown of different kinds of medals you can find.
Academic Medals
The academic world sees a large number of medals given to students and sometimes even to teachers regularly. Academic medals come in myriad varieties to fit every situation worth recognition and honour. You can expect academic medals for excellence in arts, computers, drama, graduation, music, science, maths, perfect attendance, and more.
General Medals
This kind of medals can be used for any event as they don’t bear the name of any event or the reason for which it is being given, making them suitable for just any event. However, you can find a variety of medals in different materials and sizes. For example, you can expect acrylic medal buttons, 50 mm medals, 70 mm medals, etc.
Sports Medals
Australia is a sports-loving country and corporates love these events as they induce a competitive team spirit among employees and associates. You can find sports medals for virtually all games athletics, basketball, cricket, dance, karate, netball, rugby, soccer, swimming, and more. Medals for team events and tournaments can also be found.
Stained Glass Medals
When you want to go for colourful medals that boast creativity and skilled craftsmanship, stained glass medals are an option. Typically, it will come with a ribbon and be placed in a presentation box. As they are created with care and patience, you can get a name and message engraved. You can find stained glass medals for sporting, academic, and even corporate award functions.
Star Medals
Medals in a star shape or round medals with one or multiple star insignia are very popular. You can find these star medals in different materials including gold, silver, bronze, and acrylic. You can get a name, a logo, an image, or a message engraved or placed on the medal. Star medals in 50 mm size are quite popular. However, you can find other sizes too.
Everything You Wanted to Know about Ribbons
The world of ribbons is no less prolific. You can find a large variety of ribbons to suit any award functions and other events. They bring colours and elegance to the occasion a sense of pride and recognition to the wearer. Ribbons are strips of fabric worn around the neck or attached to a uniform. They can be customized to align with the specific events.
However, ribbons have use cases beyond the winners’ circles. For example, the circular clusters of ribbon loops called Rosettes are used widely to recognise volunteers or community members at an event. Ribbons are often used for tying gift boxes to elevate their beauty. They are also used to embellish garlands, bouquets and floral arrangements. Another use case for ribbons is using them in invitations and stationery items to enhance their appeal and elegance.
Now, let’s have a look at ribbon materials. When it comes to choosing a ribbon material, a wide assortment of options are available, each giving a distinct look and feel. Here is a list of some commonly used ribbon materials.
Satin Ribbons: It offers a luxurious and silky feel that goes well with formal occasions and gift wrapping.
Organza Ribbons: It’s made with silk, polyester or nylon fabric and offers an ethereal touch.
Grosgrain Ribbons: It’s heavy silk or nylon fabric woven using the heavy weft technique and offers a sophisticated look.
Velvet Ribbons: They offer a classic and elegant feel and look rich and luxurious.
Burlap Ribbons: Its fabric is made with vegetable fibres that offer a natural rustic and eco-friendly look.
Now, let’s explore different types of ribbons that you can find in a medals and ribbons shop.
Neck Ribbons
Medals are typically worn with the help of neck ribbons as they proudly occupy the centre of the wearers’ chest. Corporations often choose brand colours to keep uniformity in promotional materials. Using neck ribbons with the same colours as in your brand can give the ribbons added importance.
Here are some common neck ribbon combinations: Black Neck Ribbon, Black/Green Striped Neck Ribbon, Black/Red Striped Neck Ribbon, Black/White Striped Neck Ribbon, Black/Yellow Striped Neck Ribbon, Black/Yellow/Red Striped Neck Ribbon, Blue Neck Ribbon, Blue/White Striped Neck Ribbon, Blue/Yellow Striped Neck Ribbon, Dark Blue/White Striped Neck Ribbon, Green/Blue Striped Neck Ribbon, Green/White Striped Neck Ribbon, etc. You can find many more colours. You can even ask for customized ribbons to match your brand colours.
Place Ribbons
These are fabric strips that speak about your place or achievement in a contest. For example, you can find Achievement Award Ribbons, Competitor Award Ribbons, Fifth Place Award Ribbons, First Place Award Ribbons, Fourth Place Award Ribbons, Good Performance Award Ribbons, Good Try Award Ribbons, Highly Commended Award Ribbons, Merit Award Ribbons, Participant Award Ribbon, Runner Up Award Ribbon, Second Place Award Ribbon, Sixth Place Award Ribbon, Special Award Ribbon, Third Place Award Ribbon, Top Effort Award Ribbon, etc.
Take Away
Medals are ribbons are widely used in corporate and academic award functions. Medals mostly represent success and achievement while ribbons are used to add colour and vivacity to such events. They can be used to wear the medals, tie the wrappings of gift boxes, decorate garlands and boutiques, and embellish decorations and clothing. If you plan to buy medals or are looking for cheap sports trophies melbourne, you should look for them online. Especially, Olympia is a reputable corporate awards and trophies store, offering both online and in-store services.

CHICAGO (August 31, 2023) – Julie Ertz, one of the greatest competitors in U.S. Women’s National Team history and one of a select group of players to win FIFA World Cups at the youth and senior levels, has officially announced her retirement from professional soccer.
Tumblr media
Ertz played a major part in helping the USA win back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cups, bursting onto the international scene in 2015 in Canada as a center back and then as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world in 2019 in France. She was off the field for 18 months following the Olympics in 2021 due to injuries and the birth of her son but made a comeback to play in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She was stellar in New Zealand and Australia, playing every minute of all four matches while marshaling a U.S. defense that allowed just two shots on goal over the four games.
Ertz is a two-time U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year (2017 and 2019) and is one of just five players to win both the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year (which she won in 2012) and the senior team award. She is the only player to win the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year and then win the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year twice.
“As an athlete you’re always singularly focused on the next goal, the next tournament and rarely do you get time to reflect on your career,” said Ertz. “However, over the past couple of months my heart has been filled with gratitude as I’ve thought about the amazing experiences soccer has given me. I’ve been blessed to meet and train with some of the best and most inspirational women I’ve ever been around, and I’ve experienced different cultures while traveling the world to compete at the highest level. I gave everything I had to the sport that I love. With that I can walk away with no regrets because while I gave soccer every ounce of myself, soccer gave me even more, and for that I’ll always be thankful.”
A two-time Olympian, Ertz came back from a serious knee injury to play in the delayed 2020 Olympics in Japan, gutting out a performance that saw her start five of the six games and play the second-most minutes on the team while helping the USA capture bronze.
Ertz took some time off the field after the Olympics, and then announced her pregnancy in April of 2022. She gave birth to her son, Madden, on Aug. 11, 2022.
Ertz, 31, debuted for the USWNT in 2013 and her U.S. National Team career spanned 10 years. In her 122 caps, the USA had a record of 100W-17D-5L. Ertz played in 17 World Cup matches, all of which were starts, in which the USA amassed 13 wins and four draws while keeping 11 clean sheets.
In 2012, as a center back, she captained the USA to the title at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan and was awarded the bronze ball as the third best player in the tournament, a rare tribute for a defensive player. Her performance helped her earn the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year accolade.
Over her career, Ertz developed into a fan favorite with her dynamic style of play which featured crunching tackles, a dominant aerial presence and an impressive 20 goals – many off set plays -- while playing in the back or at defensive midfield. Ertz’s 20 goals came against 15 different opponents: three against New Zealand, two against Korea Republic, Brazil and Colombia, and one each against France, Republic of Ireland, Haiti, Canada, Jamaica, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, Denmark, Japan.
A defender during her first four years on the U.S. National Team, she came off the bench against Brazil in the 2017 Tournament of Nations to play defensive midfielder – a position she played all season for her pro club and in the past in college and for the U.S. Youth National Teams – and scored the dramatic game-winner in the 89th minute of a 4-3 comeback victory. From there, she started the final seven games of the year at defensive mid, scoring five more goals, and played all but 67 minutes over those games. Her six goals almost equaled her total (8) from her first four years on the WNT and she played so well and was so dominant that she was named the 2017 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year.
In the first match of the 2020 SheBelieves Cup against England on March 5, she became the 40th U.S. Women’s National Team player to hit 100 caps.
At the club level, Ertz played the majority of her professional club career for the Chicago Red Stars, spanning almost 100 games from 2014-2021. The Red Stars selected her with the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 NWSL Draft. She would go on to be named the 2014 NWSL Rookie of the Year. She returned to the NWSL in 2023 with Angel City FC and played in seven matches before the World Cup, all starts, while scoring one goal. She will not return to Angel City for the remainder of the NWSL season.
Julie Beth Johnston was born in Phoenix, Arizona and grew up in Mesa, where she excelled as a youth player with Sereno SC, with whom she won nine state titles. She first became part of the U.S. National Teams program at the Under-14 level. She earned a scholarship to Santa Clara University, where she was a First-Team All-American and the West Coast Conference Player of the Year as a senior. She was also the WWC Freshman of the Year during her rookie campaign. She earned her first senior team cap in 2013 against Scotland and scored her first senior team goal at the Algarve Cup in Portugal in 2015 vs. France.
In 2017, she married NFL tight end Zach Ertz, who is currently with the Arizona Cardinals and was a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, catching the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl LII.
In 2018, she and Zach started the Ertz Family Foundation with a mission of empowering others by sharing faith, learning through sports and advancing education to build supportive communities, with the goals of transforming lives through faith, hope and love. Her work with the Foundation continues.

Your mom was a retail manager in the 80s???? Idk why but I've pictured your mom being like, in her 40s. But if youre 22, and she was a manager in the 80s, thats not possible. Now, Im sus you've been lying about your age......I just don’t buy your mom being that much older than you??? Im a lil stoned rn so big brain moves
I love that you immediately think I'm lying about my age instead of considering, hey she may just be an older mom. But!, you did say but brain moves so fair.
I'll add to the age confusion you're having. My grandfather, her father, was at the liberation of the Philippines from Imperial Japan in WW2. Not only at it but awarded a medal with 2 bronze stars along with surviving a kamikaze strike, having to abandon ship, being rescued by Australia, getting on another ship, surviving another kamikaze strike, and being rescued again.
That was 78 years ago in 1945. That's my mom's dad, my grandfather. My other grandfather also served in WWII. Both my grandparents were if age to serve in a war almost 80 years ago. So am I lying about my age? How old is my mom? What about my Dad? How old am I? Am I lying now? Who knows???
Also, I'm 24, not 22 😂

The US women’s soccer team should forget about the bronze medal game and get a head start on the swim home. Piss-poor effort the entire Olympics (except for Julie who played her heart out on one leg). They sure as hell aren’t the number one team in the world. I’d even question top 5. Absolute embarrassment.

it’s less Uswnt this year and more ACFC Madison Hammond and CP are invited but not any of the 4 nwsl player nominated for an award, not sure if Trinity was invited either. Nothing to be done now but super disappointing. Honestly I love Pinoe but that would weird me out to be asked to be a presenter but they don’t acknowledge my league.
I just heard that Trinity is there. Pinoe was actually nominated for an award or rather her Olympico goal against Australia in the Bronze medal game was nominated for Best Play. They do acknowledge the league with an award. They just fucked up in how they went about presenting it.

5 Of the Most Trusted Organic Skin Care Brands
Tumblr media
I'm a firm follower of organic skincare products. In the long term, looking after your skin will truly repay majorly. For the past 20 years, I've used only natural skincare products. Yes, several of the items can show to be costly and some are developed to make you spend more. It's up to you how much you are prepared to spend on your skin. Once, you would just locate the odd organic skin care product concealed in the rear of a little natural food store and now most brands take satisfaction of location in big outlet store and also the high road with large chains like Tescos profiting the natural tag. Here's 5 of one of the most trusted natural skincare brand names, which have long abided by the principles of no nasties, petrochemicals and also parabens. Dr Hausckha For over 40 years, Dr.Hauschka has acquired an online reputation for its authentic commitment to nature. The business's products are made from pure and all-natural active ingredients as well as it has an unique credibility in the organic skin care industry with top quality products.skinmedica retinol Dr Hauschka items were the first items I discovered greater than 20 years ago as well as were a dazzling intro to organic skin care. And lots of consumers appreciate comfortable, glowing skin.
Have a look at several of Dr Hauschka's award winning items:
- Cleansing Cream - Regenerating Serum
- Rose Day Cream
- Bronzing powder Jurlique Jurlique has long generated a clean living range of organic skincare products. The Australian organic skin care firm, like Dr Hauschka. When I remained in Australia, 10 years back, I was astonished at the quantity of fresh, natural items readily available. And it makes perfect sense, because Australia is so plentiful with fresh, natural items of remarkable high quality. Jurlique's organic skin care does come with a price. The array is priced far more expensively than various other brand names, yet natural skin treatment users faithful to Jurlique swear by its quality and also would not trade for anything else.
Below's a snapshot of a few of Jurlique's award winning organic skincare products:
- Herbal Recovery Eye Gel
- Balancing Foaming Cleanser
- Moisture Replenishing Day Cream
- Purely Age-Defying Night Lotion
Jasons
Jason's products are very useful as well as have a great reputation for being natural and also mainly organic without nasties as well as parabens. I uncovered Jason greater than 10 years back. The firm's shower gels are great value. For ₤ 8 you made use of to be able to obtain a huge bottle with a pump and also it would certainly last for months. I believe the firm have wised up nevertheless, due to the fact that it's just recently repackaged all its natural body care and body moisturisers which again are wonderful worth for the price. Jason has a track record for being a leading individual skin care manufacturer. One good thing regarding Jasons is that their haircare array works well unlike many other natural hair items.
I'm a company follower of natural skincare products. For the past 20 years, I've utilized only organic skincare products. When upon a time, you would just discover the odd natural skincare product tucked away in the back of a little health and wellness food store but now most brand names take satisfaction of area in huge department shops and the high street with large chains like Tescos paying in on the natural tag.

Today we remember the passing of Clarence Gatemouth Brown who Died: September 10, 2005 in Orange, Texas
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown was an American musician from Louisiana and Texas known for his work as a blues musician, as well as other styles of music. He spent his career fighting purism by synthesizing old blues, country, jazz, Cajun music and R&B styles.
His work also encompasses rock and roll, rock music, folk music, electric blues, and Texas blues.
He was an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, who played an array of musical instruments, including the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, viola, harmonica and drums. He won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album in 1983 for his album, Alright Again!. He is regarded as one of the most influential exponents of blues fiddle and has had enormous influence in American fiddle circles.
Brown's biggest musical influences were Louis Jordan, T-Bone Walker, and Count Basie. His highly original guitar style influenced many blues and rock guitarists, including Guitar Slim, Albert Collins, and Johnny "Guitar" Watson.
Brown was born in Vinton, Louisiana, and raised in Orange, Texas. His professional music career began in 1945, playing drums in San Antonio, Texas. He was given the nickname "Gatemouth" by a high school teacher who said he had a "voice like a gate". His career was boosted when he attended a concert by T-Bone Walker in Don Robey's Bronze Peacock Houston nightclub in 1947; Walker became ill, and Brown took up his guitar and quickly wrote and played "Gatemouth Boogie", to the delight of the audience.
In 1949 Robey founded Peacock Records in order to showcase Brown's virtuoso guitar work. Brown's "Mary Is Fine" backed with "My Time Is Expensive" was a hit for Peacock in 1949. A string of Peacock releases in the 1950s were less successful commercially, but were nonetheless pioneering musically. Particularly notable was the 1954 instrumental "Okie Dokie Stomp", in which Brown solos continuously over a punchy horn section (other instrumentals from this period include "Boogie Uproar" and "Gate Walks to Board"). "Okie Dokie Stomp" was also recorded by Cornell Dupree in the 1970s, who also had a commercial success with it. As for his gutsy violin playing, Robey allowed Brown to record "Just Before Dawn", his final release on the Peacock label, in 1959.
In the 1960s Brown moved to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in a syndicated R&B television show, and while he was there recorded several country singles. He struck up a friendship with Roy Clark and made several appearances on the television show Hee Haw. In 1966, Brown was the musical director for the house band on the short-lived television program, The !!!! Beat.
However, in the early 1970s several countries in Europe had developed an appreciation for American roots music, especially the blues, and Brown was a popular and well-respected artist there. He toured Europe twelve times, beginning in 1971 and continuing throughout the 1970s. He also became an official ambassador for American music, and participated in several tours sponsored by the U.S. State Department, including an extensive tour of Eastern Africa. Brown appeared at the 1973 Montreux Jazz Festival, where he jammed with American blues rock band Canned Heat. In 1974, he recorded as a sideman with the New Orleans pianist Professor Longhair on his album, Rock 'N' Roll Gumbo (originally a Blue Star Records release). He moved to New Orleans in the late 1970s. In 1979, through his manager at the time, Jim Halsey, Brown embarked on a 6-week, 44 concert tour of the Soviet Union. This was an historic event as it marked the first time the Soviet Union made a contract with a U.S. private citizen (Jim Halsey) as regards a musical tour. All previous tours were under the auspices of the U.S. State Department. To date, this was by far the most extensive tour an American band had taken in the USSR.
In the 1980s, a series of releases on Rounder Records and Alligator Records revitalized his U.S. career, and he toured extensively and internationally, usually playing between 250 and 300 shows a year. He won a Grammy in 1982 for the album Alright Again! and was nominated for five more. Alright Again! is credited with putting Brown back on the musical map. He also won eight W. C. Handy Awards. In 1999, Brown was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
In his last years, he maintained a full touring schedule, including Australia, New Zealand, South America, Africa and Eastern Europe. His final record Timeless was released in 2004.
In September 2004, Brown was diagnosed with lung cancer. He already had emphysema and heart disease, and he and his doctors decided to forego treatment for the cancer. This greatly affected his musical career. His home in Slidell, Louisiana, was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, although he had been evacuated to his childhood hometown of Orange, Texas before the storm hit. He died there on September 10, 2005, at the apartment of a grandniece, at the age of 81. Brown is buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Orange. Flooding caused by Hurricane Ike in September 2008 damaged his grave. His casket was one of dozens that floated out of their burial sites. His grave has since been refurbished and through the estate funds, a headstone has been erected in his honor. A marker honoring Brown was placed by the Texas Historical Commission next to the flagpole at Hollywood Cemetery.
The rock composer Frank Zappa, in his autobiography, The Real Frank Zappa Book (1989), credited Brown, along with Guitar Slim and Johnny "Guitar" Watson, as important influences on his guitar playing.
On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

5 Of the Most Trusted Organic Skin Care Brands
Tumblr media
I'm a firm follower of organic obagi skincare products. The business's products are made from pure and all-natural active ingredients as well as it has an unique credibility in the organic skin care industry with top quality products. Dr Hauschka items were the first items I discovered greater than 20 years ago as well as were a dazzling intro to organic skin care. And lots of consumers appreciate comfortable, glowing skin.
Have a look at several of Dr Hauschka's award winning items:
- Cleansing Cream - Regenerating Serum

Taiwan
Taiwanese Olympic gold medal winners can get as much as 20 million New Taiwan Dollars, or $640,000 USD+300,000USD(bonus) while silver medalists earn $223,000 and a bronze medalists earn $160,000.
On the lower end of the scale, countries like Australia and Canada only award their gold medalists $15,000 each. However, Great Britain doesn’t award their athletes any money. Instead, they get their face on a stamp, but they may receive sponsorship contracts worth more than most higher paying countries.

Top 10 Moments from this Women's World Cup?
Okay so I kinda just did TOP TEN HIGHLIGHTS of the 2019 WWC... because I didn’t just want it to be goals//matches//dribbles. I wanted it to be bigger than that.
Where do I even begin? Seesh! Okay you asked to go down this rabbit hole. I apologize to no one for how long this is.
[10.] Lucy Bronze v Norway (Defender, England)
Okay... So we shouldn’t be surprised that I put Lucy Bronze on this list. But her goal vs Norway was my personal goal of the tournament. The strike, the technicality, the pace, ugh. Beautiful stuff from a beautiful human being. I mean it was a rocket. This was such a statement win, not to mention the fantastic tournament that Lucy had as well as the rest of the Lionesses. She anchored the english backline despite being a RB up in the attack. I think Lucy is the engine of the team. (Tbh, I don’t like Houghton as a captain because she doesn’t command enough of a presence for me on the field) You know who does have a presence on the field? Lucy Tough Bronze. This goal proved that statement to be true.
Tumblr media
[9.] Amel Majri (Defender, France)
Switching flanks to the LB position, let’s talk Amel. Majri had one of the strongest if not the strongest performances throughout the entire WWC. (If she gets left off of the Best XI, I will literally riot.) She was strong, creative, pushed forward and added to the attack, while still providing top-class defense. She was able to keep world class forwards and mids quiet for 90+ minutes game after game. She had insane stats for this WWC, listen to this and tell me it’s not crazy. She led the entire tournament (think about the strong teams of Germany, USA, Netherlands, etc.) leading into the Round of 16 // Q/F games in assists, chances created, crosses//successful crosses. She’s a left back. I’m sorry but I just have to point out how important she is to the French side. Her dynamic running and influence was//is crucial to their attacking play. (She did more than Gauvin and Thiney combined tbh.) But anyhoo, Amel Majri had a hell of a tournament and she is a hell of a player. That’s just the facts.
Tumblr media
[8.] LGBTQ+ Visibility
I think this entire point can be summed up in one tweet.
Tumblr media
The LGBTQ+ Community THRIVED this World Cup. And I was here for it.
[7.] France - La Marseillaise // Chile - Canción Nacional
I love nothing more than pride for our heritage and country. I promise that not all of these moments are about France either. (sorry! Mais allez les bleues am I right?) But after living in France for 19 months learning the culture, understanding the people, loving the language and the pride. I couldn’t help but put this on the list. France (the host nation) walked out onto the Parc des Prince field June 7th, it was all the pride of the host nation on display. It was incredible to experience and as you watched the players take in a sold out Parc des Prince and have 45,261 people scream-sing your nations anthem, chills. One of my personal favorite moments I got to experience throughout the games I went to. Similarity, I got chills when the Chile WNT sang their national anthem. For whatever stupid reason that FIFA was being shitty, it all got somewhat remedied when we heard La Rojas belt out Cación Nacional each and every game. Passion. Soul. Chills.
( Couldn’t find a video of these... :/ )
[6.] Oranje Legioe
Undoubtedly, the best fans throughout the entire WWC go to the Dutch. They went to Le Havre, Valenciennes, Reims, Rennes, and finally Lyon and they didn’t just go... No, they showed up with thousands upon thousands of supporters strong. You’ve got them all, old, young, kiddos, men, women, children, gay, straight, and even Lisa Evans in a dodgey Orange hat to support her gf. Even still you might be asking, “Sage, why do I love the Dutch Oranje so much?” Well dear tumblr user, because it wasn’t just about the fanbase that they brought to the France, rather it was the support they gave from home. Game after game, the Netherlands smashed viewing records by millions as the NEDWNT continued on to the final. Incredible support makes incredible football. #GrowTheGameTOGETHER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[5.] Erin Cuthbert’s Photo Tribute (Forward, Scotland)
I made a post about this earlier in the WWC. But this moment was incredible. Erin and Co are playing Argentina in their final WWC Group Stage game. It’s simple, win and they’re in. (Ultimately they would fall short after a powerful rally from La Albiceleste that stunned the world.) Anyhoo, Erin scores her first-ever WWC goal and pulls out a small photo and kisses it. Probably the most tender goal celly of the entire tourney tbh. The image was unclear but it was soon confirmed that it was a photo of a young Erin Cuthbert. Erin later said this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[4.] Marta’s Speech (Forward, Brazil)
What a moment not only for the Brazilian fans but for fans across the globe. Marta after Brazil’s elimination to hosts France in the Round of 16, delivered a powerful speech. In it she stated, “There's not going to be a Formiga forever, there's not going to be a Marta forever, there's not going to be a Cristiane.” before inviting the youth of Brazil to give more and do more. This speech quickly, became a worldwide topic of interest. But you know who didn’t need to hear it? (Hint: Read #5 again.)

[3.] Italy Women’s National Team
Tumblr media
They first turned heads on first WWC game since 1991 against Australia. Upsetting the favorites 2-1 in an intense, exciting game. No one expected the Italians to do well versus the likes of Sam Kerr (c), De Vanna, Kellond-Knight, Foord, and Williams but, the Italians came back with a unique set of talent in Sara Gama (c), Bonansea, Giacinti, Girelli, and Galli that led their team not only to a shock upset against Aussies but to the Q/F. They played with heart, soul, and passion. They played an exciting game and displayed to the worst why they were there. (and ruined thousands of brackets in the process. RIP.) By far, one of my personal favorite teams to watch this entire tournament. Fantastic football. Let’s just put some up a beautful goal yeah?
Tumblr media
[2.] Badass Goalkeeping
This WWC had no shortage of badass women, and it didn’t have a shortage of badass goalkeepers. I’m talking about Christiane Endler, Alyssa Naeher, Shimeng Peng,  Hedvig Lindahl, Karen Bardsley, Vanina Correa, and Sari van Veenendaal among others. Each of these players came up with HUGE and critical saves and moments for their respective countries. Between the 4 Goddess (oops) Player of the Match awards went to keepers showcasing the power and punctuality of the art of goalkeeping. Sari van Veenendaal took home the coveted Golden Glove. 1/12th of awards from the tournament went to keepers and if you don’t think that is impressive just check out Tiane Endler’s  performance against the United States in the Group Stage OR just check out this GK WWC Youtube Vid I found....

[1.] USWNT
The USWNT proved to from the start that they came to play. With a whopping FIFA record setting 13-0 win versus Thailand the USA started the road to the final. But the road was not easy, they had to play Sweden, France, England and take down the Netherlands in the final. This year was filled with record breaking moments for the USWNT including adding a brand new 4th star to those jerseys. What I love about this team is not only the play (but in my opinion they did not play the most attractive football in the tournament (@Netherlands) nor did they play the most strategic (@Sweden) but they grinded out win, after win, after win all while being their dorky selves. Despite pressure to succeed from the ‘15 WWC, the nation, and backlash from the current US President... the United States proved to be made of diamonds and thrived under it all. We saw cellys, sipped some tea, and marveled at Megan. The USWNT won on every front.
Tumblr media
End Tangent: This WWC was so successful and laid a great foundation for the 2023 WWC. This WWC broke records, united nations, and created a platform to advocate for equality. The level of play was tremendous and we saw that every nation is growing the game. It was exciting to see and it makes me very, very excited for what’s to come.

Reliving the War On-Screen: They Were Expendable (’45) By Jessica Pickens
Tumblr media
Reliving the War On-Screen: They Were Expendable By Jessica Pickens In the late 1920s and 1930s, actor Robert Montgomery was often cast as the playboy in comedies —always debonair, charming and clowning. His characters on screen might be dressed in a top hat and tuxedo, holding a martini. Other times, he may be ready to play tennis or go on a fox hunt. But by 1937, Montgomery got tired of playing the juvenile fool and was cast as a murderer in NIGHT MUST FALL. When war broke out in Europe, however, Montgomery traded in the title of Hollywood leading man to help during the conflict.
Before the United States joined World War II, Montgomery traveled to France in 1940 to drive ambulances — much to the chagrin of his home studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Montgomery briefly returned home to make three films, then joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, enlisting under his birth name LT. Henry Montgomery Jr., USNR. Montgomery served in the South Pacific, commanding a PT boat, or partial torpedo boat. He saw action in Noumea, Espiritu Santo and Guadalcanal. Montgomery also served in the European Theater as an operations officer aboard destroyer USS Barton (DD-722) during the D-Day Invasion.
After serving five years of active duty, Montgomery was awarded the Bronze Star and French Legion of Honor. He retired from the Navy in 1944 with the rank of a commander. But when he retired, Montgomery hadn’t left the war completely.
Tumblr media
His first film role when he returned home was the lead in THEY WERE EXPENDABLE (’45), directed by John Ford. The story was based on William L. White’s non-fiction book of the same title, based on the experiences of John D. Bulkeley. Bulkeley commanded PT boats in the Philippines and broke through Japanese lines so Gen. Douglas MacArthur could escape from Corregidor to Bataan. White’s book was adapted for the screen by Navy veteran Frank W. Wead. Montgomery would be playing Bulkeley, but his name was changed to Lt. John Brickley for the film.
The story begins in 1941 on an American Naval base in the Philippines days before the Pearl Harbor attack. The story follows from the declaration of war to the United States’ surrender at Bataan and Corregidor. The central focus is Lt. Brickley, Lt. Rusty Ryan (John Wayne) and their squadron of PT boats. In peace time, the Navy didn’t consider the PT boats seriously for wartime use, but the squadron’s tasks are quickly changed from messenger to combat duty.
This art-imitating-life role is a far cry from Montgomery’s last role from three years earlier, the comedy UNFINISHED BUSINESS (’41), where he played his usual playboy who drank too much. With his first acting role in three years, Montgomery panicked; worried that he wouldn’t remember how to perform in front of a camera. According to Behind the Scenes of They Were Expendable: A Pictorial History by Lou Sabini, while filming in Key Biscayne and Miami, FL, Ford told Montgomery to take the PT boat out and relax until he felt comfortable.
Tumblr media
Whatever self-doubt Montgomery may have experienced doesn’t come across on screen. He was even able to take over directing when Ford fell and fractured his leg; leaving the director hospitalized. In one of Montgomery’s best screen performances, he plays Lt. Brickley restrained and reserved. All of Montgomery’s actions and reactions feel authentic. As he drives the PT boats, gives orders or is concerned for his men, this isn’t Montgomery just playing another role. It’s obvious he’s drawing on his war experiences and reliving them.
Montgomery wasn’t the only member of the cast or crew to have recently left the service. This was director John Ford’s first feature film since HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY (’41). Since then, he had been making documentary shorts on the war for American audiences. Cinematographer Joseph H. August had also just returned from overseas serving with John Ford’s film unit, which included filming the documentary short,The Battle of Midway (’42). Hollywood newcomer actor Cameron Mitchell had just gotten his start in films after serving as a bombardier with the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
The film had other authenticities, such as the PT boats on loan from the Navy and the use of Navy phrases like “Fire in the paint closet!” World War II ended in September 1945 and THEY WERE EXPENDABLE was released in December 1945. Releasing the film was a risk. Audiences were celebrating that the war was over and were weary of war films, particularly ones that chronicled some of the darkest days of the conflict.
But the film was still met with critical acclaim. The New York Times film critic Bosley Crowther named it one of the top 10 best films of 1945. In his December 21, 1945 review, he called it a “labor of understanding and love on the part of the men who produced it, from John Ford, the director, on down. Most of those who worked on it were active or recent Navy personnel.”
Tumblr media
THEY WERE EXPENDABLE is different from most war movies of the era. Robert Montgomery, John Wayne and Donna Reed may be the stars of the film, but each actor plays their role equally well and no one star outshines another. It’s truly an ensemble cast. The brief romance between Wayne’s Rusty and Reed’s Nurse Sandy isn’t neatly wrapped up and doesn’t have a cliché happy ending. Rusty has to leave Sandy, and the two don’t get to see each other again. As the top personnel are evacuated from the Philippines for Australia, Rusty wonders what will happen to Sandy with the surrender.
This is also not a heroic war film where our stars save the day. Montgomery’s Lt. Brickley makes a point of reminding his squadron that they are following orders — particularly when their squadron is on standby and the men are eager to get into the fight. There isn’t a singular hero who saves the day. In fact, with the surrender of the Philippines, they fail. “It’s a film about adults coping with failure and loss,” said John Wayne biographer, Scott Eyman.
The overall tone is mournful and feels almost like a coping mechanism for those who returned from the war. And on top of the mournful sadness of the film is the gorgeous cinematography wrapping it into a masterpiece. Montgomery later attributed the film’s perfection to John Ford in a 1980 interview: “Anything that’s good about THEY WERE EXPENDABLE—in the script, the performances, the editing, the camerawork—was Ford’s achievement.”

Hobbit Soulmate Pt 23
Tumblr media
Near daily in trips to meet with Jennifer at her home gym you helped to tone her up a bit more like a fighter in time for filming kept you busy. And you breezed right through the maze of sets and pair of films filling up nearly a month and a half to complete your roles while the other actors finalized the rest of the film.
Maid in Manhattan was a lovely couple of weeks, and for the shadowing of Natasha on a few scenes you at least got to meet Ralph, who was thrilled to have your paths cross on set after having heard about you being a fan of his through your father. “Hello, you must be Jaqi.” With brows lifted mid sip of your absurd latte that one of the assistants got for Natasha in a variety of four choices she usually ordered she passed onto you the voice on your right turned your head to the familiar actor.
Lowering the cup after swallowing and licking the adorable shudder from you had Ralph smiling wider followed by a wide smile from you, “Yes, Jaqi, that’s me.” Nervously you took another sip only to make him chuckle at your clear distaste of the drink you had been given. “Nice to meet you, Mr, Ralph.”
“Just Ralph is fine. Your father told me about you, that you are a fan and you’ve seen a lot of my work. I believe he said you saw Wuthering Heights five times in theater.” Again he smiled seeing you taking another sip trying to hold back your reaction to that.
“In my defense we are from a one horse town and we only get three films a season in our old theater house.”
Pointing at the drink he said, “You don’t have to drink that if you don’t like it you know.”
“No, well, you see they got it for Natasha and her and Jennifer took two of them and they said I could choose from the two but the other has almond milk. Plus it’s $6,” His brows lifted again as you took another sip and added, “$6 could feed me three weeks when I went to Julliard.”
“Oh,” it clicked in his head the full reason why you were drinking the drink you clearly didn’t want or ask for. “In that case, at least let me have a sandwich or something with some substance ordered for you because the coffee in that will hit you hard.”
Smacking your tongue you said, “Only thing hitting me is an odd aftertaste of garlic. Wow.” Making him chuckle again. “Sorry, having fun? I saw you have such a sweet dog to work with.”
“Yes,” he chuckled out, “Yes, it is fun today, I get to do the park scenes. Changing from one suit to another and back again. What are you up to?”
“I get to watch Natasha and Amy do some exercises and then I get to change and take notes while Natasha is meant to show up at the hotel.”
He turned his head hearing his name being called and in looking back to you he said, “Sandwich, on the way, promise.” He said and you nodded after taking another sip of the drink that would keep you up all day only to make you crash hard to sleep once you got back to your apartment after eating out with your dad.
A good impression was formed by all between stolen chances to play with the dog Ralph would be pretending was his in the film only luring some more attention to you for the already friendly rest of the cast bringing a few to try and include you a bit more. While Natasha claimed a near daily lunch slot with you to keep getting to know you better than just the young woman she had helped pick out a sweater once then helped into a few new jobs.
.
Two Weeks Notice was brief just under a week, and limited to random costume changes behind a desk and crossing through the office. Somehow always ending up on the table near to the lead cast on lunches and breaks, who after one had noticed your eyes in passing had taken a chance on asking you a few questions when the got the chance to get to know you better. Realizing that a few of them were also working on Maid in Manhattan as well deepening your conversations on that project too. Each a bit puzzled on why you had been keeping to yourself even with a wedding scene you were added to filling an extra bridesmaid slot.
Weekly reminding Richard that you would be tuning in to his latest, Sparkhouse, that was to be airing soon on BBC, a fact that Ralph on your final days took mental note of after your having shared who was in it to build up your anticipation for the nod to the classic Wuthering Heights he promised to keep a look out for as well.
.
For Enough, while Jennifer delved deeper into her own character bringing it to life you continued to help her train to keep up her figure until the filming had ended and England came calling. Your role was much smaller than your father had expected, but at least you had some lines and had the chance to build some semblance of a character for the little bit you were there. While trying to aid your new friend through her lead role in this slightly disturbing thriller testing her limits.
.
Right on the back end of his play while your father flew with you, smirking at the way you managed to sneak back to Richard’s place in time to change and hurry off to catch one of the final dates to his play. You sat all the way in the back for it in some of the last available seats and waited outside for when it was over leaning against his car. Out of his downward gazing stroll he snapped seeing the body leaning against his hood, ready to yell out of all his pent up frustrations that instantly melted away in seeing you. “Hey Richy Rich,” squeaking giddily in his lifting you into a tight hug your giggles erupted in his content hum and burial of his face in the side of your neck. “Oh I missed these arms.”
Warmly his lips found yours and chuckling through your muffled giggles he held you on the few steps to the door of his car he pressed you against then hummed in breaking the kiss to hold his forehead to yours, “I love you, Dearest. More than words, and you’re here now.” Pulling back he asked, “How long are you here? Joe too?”
“Well, The Fellowship premiers in New Zealand in December, London right after, I have been ordered to be at both, as have you and Dad, so, through to December. Might make a Christmas of it. Just in time for your show to air, which we are having a party for.” Spreading a grin across his face ending in his next fiery kiss. “And yes, Joe too.”
In a grumble he replied breaking the kiss, “We can be quiet then,” Making you giggle again in his next kiss and tight hug before driving you home to greet Joe warmly as well.
“So, let me see the stack,” he chuckled out talking about your scripts you giggled and brought out of your bags to set the scripts you had been given on the table explaining each he loved hearing about. Knowing fully you would be sneaking his own stack to hear about while cuddled up in bed excited to see what he had chosen. “No tv offers yet?”
“No, not exactly, though I did hear from a friend that the guys in one agency scouting for some shows had talked about me, hearing that I was good to work with and I had a spot on About a Boy. A second film with Hugh Grant.”
“Have you met him yet?” Richard asked.
“No, he’d already flown back here, but I did get to meet Sandra Bullock. She’s nice.”
Richard, “That’s good. If it helps even my agent has heard some whispers about you, building interest even out here. He knows we’re together so he said he’d make sure you know if there was anything serious.”
“I don’t think I can afford him, I won’t be paid-,”
He shook his head, “Not like that. As a friend, his idea is that if you have friends then I have friends. Possibly do some couply things.”
Joe chuckled, “No doubt you will be paired up soon enough on film after you were photographed at that film premier. It made the papers and it has been added to the wall.”
Richard looked at you, “There is a wall?”
In a giggle from you he replied, “Back in Texas they have been chronicling Jaqi’s career. There is a wall and books for the articles and magazines.”
Richard’s smile split wider, “Well I am flattered to have made the wall.”
Joe, “No doubt your family has a wall of their own.”
Again Richard chuckled, “Mum has a trunk for my things. Tends to keep my things from school up on display to keep me from being embarrassed. I have a piddly award from grammar school on a poem I wrote and read in an assembly and she has the picture and statuette up I tend to try to scoot behind one of Chris’ spelling awards. You can barely tell what the statuette is for but all the same Mum ensures the little bird is in full view.”
Joe, “The little ones are the best. Pumpkin won seven spelling bees in a row, adorable little sheep statues,” making you both chuckle, “Got all the way up to the bronze bull from the state wide championship. Even won a challenge for crosswords in her last year in high school, oddest little jenga block looking statue, still, on the wall.”
Richard, “So, is your home just empty, back in Texas?”
“Oh, no, it’s all connected, a big house for my brother with the most kids, and the other three have homes on the land and ours is the mother in law cottage attached to the big house. Everyone back home is making sure that when we need it we have a have a home to come back to. So if you two ever find your way back near Texas I think you’d like it.”
Richard glanced between you two asking, “Do you miss it? I know you’ve been home recently, I don’t think Jaqi’s been home in a while.”
“A lot of my spot in Daredevil is shot in Texas actually, so I can visit family then. Show them pictures of Misty for when filming is done and she gets flown out. Darkness Falls is all over, Maine, Vegas, Australia. Everywhere.”
Richard hummed out, “That one’s a horror film?”
You nodded, “Yes, but I am a fleeing nurse from what I can tell, they have one of the cast from Buffy to head it.”
Joe, “Well it certainly sounds good. I can’t wait to see it.”
Richard chuckled, “I may have to wait until it is out, then I can watch it from behind a couch cushion.”
With a giggle you replied, “Who knows if screaming nurses get invited to the premier, doubtful.”
Joe, “Be a shame not to invite you.”

Finally Hugh got to run into the woman who Natasha had recommended for the job. One of the women mingling through the final stretch of the filming. Complete with a blond bob wig you melded into Susan, the single mom who he dated the longest on film. It was only a couple weeks but the curious actor clearly saw what he had been told about his last minute love interest number four. One who following Natasha’s comments was abundantly charming, granted a little star struck at first but no less lovely to work with. Though stunningly young, nearly half his age easing the decision of noticing there was nothing romantic about your scenes past a possible hand holding scene easing a bubbling friendship between the pair of you leading to his own interest in seeing the BBC show that you had been anticipating yet to be promoted yet. Even more so once he found out the real reason you were so thrilled for it to air making you even more adorable in his eyes at being so proud of your mate’s arguably largest role to date.
Through which those feelers Richard’s agent had passed on about shows that could be interested in hiring you. However once you got there the first involved close to full nudity which had you politely turning down the roles. Refusing to be limited to showing all of yourself since you had shown some skin in Chicago which had Velma singing about boozing and being casual in sleeping around. That wasn’t the route you wanted to go down in the start of your career, sure to be a plummet after being in something so tremendous as Lord of the Rings. The others a couple period pieces that you were given scripts to look over while they finished the details to start filming that would take a few months at least.

“We don’t have to do this,” again Richard half heartedly whined while loving the fuss of having you all in his parent’s home in their living room for the mini premier party for Sparkhouse. Right in front of you sunken down into the lounger end of their couch with feet up on the foot rest smiling at your arms and legs draped around him.
Chris laughed curling around his girlfriend who was holding their bowl of popcorn while Margaret came back into the room passing him a bowl of chips while she kept her own to pass to her husband who had their fish and dips, “Oh psh, now all the girls are tuning in as well and I won’t be the only one who shows up to book club not knowing how my baby boy did on BBC.” Luring out a proud smirk making your dad chuckle to himself smiling after glancing your way on his left nipping at your lip in excitement.
Tumblr media
A gasp came a few minutes in from you seeing his entrance into the show, “Those curls,” Richard chuckled hanging his head a moment only to look up again at your peck on his cheek. Silence for his parts came with hushed comments while others spoke, mainly the female lead character you all loathed right off for how she treated your lovable Richy. From being shunned to the squeak inducing sausage nibbling door answering scene had Richard absolutely loving that you were here to be with him through this.
So long he’d seen the work you were linked to, so glamorous and assured to success even in your extra roles. Beamingly proud of your success and wishing for so much more in the years ahead, yet while he still felt to have no leverage at all having you here so proud and confident he was gaining momentum himself to greater things he’d dreamed of. Always being his reminder to be positive and have hope seeing fully the reasons why he had chosen each role and his own take on them you assured him he had lived up to the plans set down for them in his researching bouts.
All the way through his makeover and the adorably sheepish wedding registry scene down to his jealousy you cuddled around him more stealing more kisses on his cheek while his hands smoothed across your legs still looped across his lap and tangling in the fingers on the arms draped across his chest. Post hard fight scene you all praised the lovable giant who was throwing his weight around and shared how his on screen nemesis for his terrible wife’s attention hadn’t expected him to be able to just pick him up and slam him around by his usual demeanor. Said nemesis dies in the end and scoffing slightly at poor John Standring’s fate for a loveless marriage to a terrible selfish woman living off conning others you all had a bittersweet opinion of wishing better for him while praising your blushing cuddle buddy hiding behind a pillow still in your hold. That even your dad complimented on his great choice of a role, stunning him by sharing that he’d seen more of his guest roles on tv he had also seen with less chance to thrive.
.
Off the ground as a blanket of snow had begun to fall you were back on a plane to New  Zealand. Nearly all day the flight went smoothly and between your father and Richard you remained giggling and surprisingly calm for the momentous premier. Again you were back, not for long, but just as anxious the rest of the cast was jittery to see what Peter and the team had finalized for theaters. It would be shorter than planned, with an expected extended cut released later on you all couldn’t wait to see, but for now this would be enough, for you and the thousands lined up to greet you all.
Once landed you three joined the rest of the cast back at the studio where Peter would be waiting for you all to speak to you all about what would be happening. For a greeting music and pictures were captured of you all varying from bubbly and ready to the groggiest Andy who had just gotten off his third flight this week. Though all that faded once the speech was through and Peter was done thanking you all for your patience and diligence to making this first installment so magical. Brunch followed after through a reel of footage he had put together of you all comprised of candid shots and images of you being helped into costumes or led between scenes on what to do. Stuck in the limbo of time until you would have to leave to get ready at your table with the Fellowship the suggestion was made, “We should get a tattoo.”
Around the table eight of the nine including Ian were all in with the exception of John, who said, “Now, I have made it this long in my life without a tattoo, and I am not caving into peer pressure now. Besides, after all that glue and course materials I doubt my skin could tolerate much more irritation between now and the next round of filming.” That seemed to deflate the mood until he reached over to pat your shoulder, “If anyone should be getting this tattoo it should be Gimli herself.” Grinning awkwardly at his offer the men smiled wider at his offer only to glance at your father with you as if to ask permission.
Joe, “Not anything massive I hope.”
Ian, “What about ‘nine’ for the Fellowship.”
Elijah, “The number?”
Dominic, “Doesn’t seem very special, just a nine.”
“Quenya, possibly?” You mentioned and that had the group looking at you, “The Elvish script, get the word ‘nine’ in it.”
Ian nodded, “Now that is sensible. Could be very discrete as well, and very beautiful, I believe the door at Moria was in Quenya script, very elegant.”
The plan was made and before anyone could chicken out a relative of a crew member with a tattoo parlor was called up to expect your group heading over. A quick stop to consult your books for the proper word had the men in agreement for the simple design. Exhaling softly you watched the artist copy up nine tracing slips of the word to add to each person and Sean broke the ice, “I’ll go first, because I am not going last.” Lifting his pant leg he said, “I think on my ankle would be fine.” Some shaving and a climb onto the table he was watched through the application and tattooing process and smiled as his little girl got a temporary copy of his tattoo on her ankle as well from the artist’s assistant at her curious question to get one too.
Billy as well went for his ankle, followed by Dominic, Viggo and Ian on their upper arms. Sean had the group chuckling and jeering at removing his shirt to get the back of his shoulder tattooed. Orlando chose his wrist seeing that you were still muddled on where to get it watching the others admiring their little wrap coated tattoos, save for Sean who couldn’t see his without a mirror.
Richard lowly said, “You could try your hip,” glancing up at him he said, “Just a simple cover with your waistband.”
Your father nodded, “I like that idea, nice and small all to yourself out of sight from cameras.”
Elijah next to you said, “How bout this, you get it on your hip I’ll do the same.” With a nod hoping to build your confidence he said, “Nice and subtle.”
With a nod you said, “Okay.”
Pulling out his wallet your father found a little slip of paper he’d used to trace the design on the center of the front of your helmet. Peter had tagged along and wanting to join in on the fun had convinced your father he should join in too.
Once Orlando was done you were next and flashed a grin to the artist who asked you, “Decided, Deary?”
You nodded and said, “On my hip,” brushing up your shirt on the right side under your navel in the dip by your pelvic bone with your waist band brushed down he nodded adding the design to your skin peeling back the wet transfer paper ensuring it wasn’t disturbed as you laid back on the table you hopped up onto. Keeping hold of your hand Orlando smirked through the picture captured of the moment muttering things threatening to make you giggle hinting after your months of wooing him on set that you’d get tattoos before sailing off to the Undying Lands. Chuckling himself Richard watched, patting your leg opposite the artist at work as the ink settled the well deserved marker into your skin soon coated with a pinch of goop and a corner of a clear wrap taped to stay in place.
Elijah was next saying, “Same spot,” flashing you a grin as Richard looped you in his arms kissing your forehead as John praised your choice and saying you handled the task in stride.
Tumblr media
Peter came next and in his waiting your father had spoken to the assistant who had copied the sketch for him onto transfer paper he passed to the artist who nodded and smirked seeing the design coming up next. Peter was another to ink his upper arm and around the next sketch the others mingled seeing what was up next. Sitting on the table when it was his turn your father grinned saying, “Here, under my elbow.” Allowing the artist to line up the almost arrow head shaped emblem with what looked to be a Dwarf styled flower in the center of it above ‘Gimli’ in the proper font with your double sided axes for the I’s. The placement granting ample size to do the image justice and keep it close. Right in the spot where he nestled you each night as a baby and little girl sharing several tales, including Tolkien with you. It was larger than the other tattoos, closer to a Reeses Cup package, but if he had felt the urge he’d go for a full back piece to honor his time with you here.
“Dad,” you said moving closer to lean on his side stroking his free arm while he got the design inked into his arm, with purple added into the black outline of the flower over the golden name and axes. Everyone had to admire the design, including John, who mentally decided if he ever would get one for the role he would probably get that helmet emblem later on. Just below his elbow was coated in goop and wrap and once paid fully it was just close enough to head to your house to change for the big premier.
Tumblr media
Mainly in suits the guys had an easier time. While digging into your shoe supply you pulled out tall black heels with thin strips coating the tops to go under your off the shoulder tan dress with a thin layer of black sheer material coated in embroidered black leaves with a chunky black rectangular tiled belt for your hips to under your bust. Perhaps a bit extravagant for your next to invisible role. However Peter asked you to dress up close to how you did for the Tony’s as there would be ample big names in the film world coming who would wish to speak to whomever he put in their path surely aiding you onto more projects when you surely won them over.
For miles the red carpet stretched and was lined with ample people in costume. Between your father and Richard you smiled for pictures watching while the main cast arrived and mingled with the fans waiting. Though once Peter had finished his posing he smiled moving over to you guiding the first of your people to meet your way, each of whom smirked in hearing who you had spent the most time portraying leaving them eager to see the final product for themselves. John was the first to join you in what would be the large ensemble photo.
Inside you went and near to the middle you were settled smiling all the way through the film after the couple speeches to open the event. From the Shire, where through the fireworks your face was spotted stirring up whispers of ‘Gimli’ upon seeing you front and center without a disguise, to Arwen’s entrance your fingers rose to your lips signaling Richard to take your hand folding his around it kissing your cheek as you remembered just what you had faced with your father’s being hurt and flown out through filming this chase. Every scene and in between all the way to Moria where even up to losing Gandalf you had to adore how your movement had shown through to the final edit. Lowly at your squeezing his hand and leaning into his side your father chuckled seeing himself. Bitter sweetly it came to an end though with Sam and Frodo off alone while the Three Hunters were off to save Merry and Pippen.
The break was brief soaking in the lavish celebration of the beginning to the epic trilogy still in the making. Parties and dinners filled the next two days and sore cheeked you napped through your flight back to England where more would be waiting for you. Already pictures of your place among the cast had made papers here leading to more whispers only added by your next dress, a bright yellow looser skirted gown with a fake diamond belt that matched the accent to the deep neckline feeding up to the strap holding the corseted top that hugged you to perfection. Another silver pair of shoes were found, this time heeled boots covering to your ankles and glittery to go with the white shimmery clutch you had found at a second hand shop no less fancy for it.
Tumblr media
Peter had hoped for the image to be enough, and lit up in flashes in your brilliantly yellow dress with perfected curls brushed over one shoulder you screamed starlet of old, just right. He was up to something and by the way he seemed to speak about and with you to the heads sent from the production companies there was no doubt about it. Although as you were just a couple weeks from turning 22 it was hard for them to see you as anything more than a supporting actress for all you could tell just making Peter seem like he was ready to double down on his pressing. Mention of your roles from Richard however had them looking you over hearing the ties to more roles funded by their companies or those of friends. Just a mention of the amount of roles seemed to stir some curiosity at least Peter let fester in them luring stares your way and bringing more of the cast to murmur that they had caught onto a plot as well.
.
Twenty two as 2002 kicked off and stopping in New York you switched a few things in your bag and was off to catch the train to guide you up towards the bus that would take you across the border to Canada. The papers weren’t hard to settle, though the travel was tight. You couldn’t fly direct as the date had you landing no matter which airline you took before midnight leaving you to the extra stops. Yet huffing in a plop onto your bus seat the finish line was in sight and adding your headphones to distract yourself with some travel tunes on your walkman you readied to block out the world around you and calm down before finding your way to the hotel you were booked at. Already you missed Richard and while your father had headed to Texas for your aunt’s labor to send word on your new cousin whenever they decided to arrive you were traveling alone again.
Ample jobs while a good thing also grew to be a lonely one. Meaning more time apart for now until you could be more choosy on which role and location it could send you to. The only glimmer being that for how small your roles were it wouldn’t be time apart for long. Suddenly a slap on your arm had your eyes open and turn to the little boy with one of those goop hands on a strand of goop he was playing with. Peeling it off to his wide eyed stare covering his mouth you passed it back grinning at him then turned back to the window in his grinning rush away to keep playing. Another border crossing agency had stamped your passport and with a grin you readied to head to buy a ticket for another bus letting out by your hotel.
A bit remote the city the hotel was in happened to be at the opposite end of a long stretch of road looking to head into the hills stretching of forever in your view of it. Shouldering your bag ignoring the line of three taxis charging absurd amounts only to turn seeing a car pull up and the driver pop out looking at the picture he was given before heading over to you taking hold of your bag. “Apologies Miss Pear, there was a moose.”
You nodded and smirked following him to the back he opened then closed for you before adding your duffel bag to the trunk. Two weeks you would be here, most of the final week merely to wait until your flight to Maine would leave finding you in another hotel. The cabin like hotel you were let out at was more stunning and cozy inside than out. Almost eager to ensure your comfort the staff had you settled with ease into your little apartment like room.
Heavily you exhaled sitting down on the end of your bed only to roll your eyes at the clench of your stomach craving something more filling than the dollar bag of animal crackers you got from a vending machine at the border while the bus was being confirmed permission to cross. Hanging your head back you grumbled remembering the funds you had deposited from your porn man stash wouldn’t be fully available till morning in your bank account. An out of place knock at your door however had your eyes open and head lift to look at the door. Once on your feet you took a step at the triple knock following that tapped somewhat playfully.
Tumblr media
A peek through the peep hole had you grinning and opening it to find Ian and Hugh there, both who hugged you tightly, with Ian saying, “There you are. I know you are hungry we are out to lunch and you are coming with us.”
Hugh said, “Just fly in?”
“Bus got in a bit ago.”
Hugh, “That a price issue?”
“No, timing, none of the flights fit in my visa timeline. I like the bus anyways. Only got slapped the once by little kid with one of those slime hand things. Good time, all around.”
The pair grinned at you stepping out with room key in hand you pocketed to join them. Nodding his head Hugh said, “Got a car outside.” Settling his hand on your upper back guiding you through the mildly busy street to the waiting car taking you to meet the main cast.
And by dinner you had found out your first tasks in your call sheet not growing more complex than filling an empty seat or few inches of screen time. Geeking out fully in your mini glimpse into the X-Men world, especially the jail cell for Magneto Ian gave you a full tour to before it was being disassembled followed by a stolen full tour of the school sets to get all the details the film wouldn’t show. No less bubbly for what little work you got to do on the film, however you made a tiny mark and enjoyed your free days before your flight to Maine.

Hear me out smosh fandom
These are some Smosh Summer/Winter Games ideas I’ve been wanting them to do for a while or they’re some that I’ve just come up with and thought might be interesting. Some of them may be better or more plausible than others but these are just themes I think could possibly work if they ever ran out. I’ll keep updating this if I come up with any more ideas. Titles in different colors will indicate that there was an update on the post.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Hero House the live action adaptation/remake of Maricraft: Hero House (title susceptible to change). Team of superheroes lead by Mari vs a team of super villains led by Lasercorn. The team names could be on capes that they get in the first video and on shirts (similar to SWG Again w/ the hoodies). Netflix and Kryptonite (again, title susceptible to change) where all of the movies are superhero movies, animated movies included.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Pirates. Two warring pirate crews and the teams would be selected “randomly” and by that I mean no captains. One game could be a team has to defend their treasure while the other team tries to steal it and bring it back to their ship (basically capture the football but teams take turns getting the treasure instead of both at the same time). Shortest amount of time wins.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Medieval Times. The cast is split into two warring kingdoms. Team captains are optional seeing as they can be the king or queen of their kingdom (team) but are not necessary. One of the games can be actual medieval jousting (proceed with caution) and or a life sized game of chess. A life sized game of chess could work if there were captains because the captains would be controlling everyone else who would act as the chess pieces. If there are no captains then the teams would just select someone to control the moves.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Back to the Future (idk about the title because you know, copyright). Everything is futuristic themed but not on like the alien side of things. More like technological advancements so the team names could be printed onto lab coats or something along the lines. One of the games could be similar to Dead Light Green Light where one team acts as cyborgs trying to hunt down the other team which would be acting as the humans. It can be more along the lines of manhunt/hide and seek with a limited amount of time to find the humans. Winning team depends on the shortest amount of time to find everyone, or if not everyone is found, how many players are left at the end of a set amount of time.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Freak Show. I put freak show instead of circus because I feel like circus might feel almost too childlike because this should be something the cast enjoys too. Freak show also has a creepier, scarier element to it that I think would be a really cool thing to play with. Keeping with the now tradition of punishment themed games, they could add to the list and do Punishment Throwing Knives (or darts if that’s too risky in terms of safety. They are using crossbows this year though and they’re all adults). They’d have to pop balloons just like in the archery and shooting episodes.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: All Around the World. This could be a little controversial depending on what’s actually done but I think this could be really interesting and turn out to be really enlightening and educational. Basically paying tribute to the different cultures around the world. Something the tv show Survivor does on some seasons is a food eating contest where they eat the local delicacies of the country they’re filming in and Smosh could do something really similar to this. Pick a country and eat the delicacies or even just the most common foods found there. Another thing they could do is play a sport that’s really popular in another country and not really American. For example they could play croquet as a tribute to England or rugby because it’s super popular in Australia. I feel like there are a lot of cool things they could with this without people getting hurt if their culture is misrepresented.
Smosh Summer/Winter Games: Olympics. I saw somewhere that the 2018 Winter Games were supposed to be Olympic themed in honor of the Winter Olympics and honestly I wouldn’t mind if they did it for the 2020 Summer Olympics. I also wouldn’t mind waiting for 2022 (if they’re still doing these by then) to see what they would’ve done for 2018. It could be a nice homage to the Olympics if instead of giving trophies for the individual awards, they give out medals instead. MVP and Most Epic Moment can be gold while LVP and maybe Bigfest Fail could be bronze. Although I do see Biggest Fail potentially being silver just to get all three of them in there. Plus the image of the Smosh cast being on ice skates makes me laugh.
