So I've lived in Arizona almost my entire life, and when I recently started playing Pokemon Scarlet and I ran across Bramblin I really wanted to add it to my team. I hadn't seen this pokemon before running into myself, so I had no idea that there was a tumbleweed pokemon, but I loved it immediately. But, my party already had both a grass type and a ghost type, so I didn't add Bramblin.

Then, I'm going along, trying to just get from one place to another quickly, avoiding encounters entirely. But I fail to see a Bramblin in my path and start a battle. I run, but there's another Bramblin right where I end up after running from the first battle. I'm about to run again when I see it. Sparkles.

I ran into a full odds shiny Bramblin while trying not to get into a fight at all. And I have a policy that if I happen to find a shiny, it goes into my party immediately, regardless of all else.

It's like the universe knew I wanted Bramblin and it gave me an excuse to use one.

Also, I don't normally nickname my pokemon, but I nickname shinies. So this pokemon tumbles. It's a tumbler. And it's a ghost, which some people say don't really exist. So I named her Katya, after the Goncharov character.

NYT article abt goncharov has comments like 'what is the purpose of this film's existence these kids are just lying' motherfucker how do you think our ancestors survived. how do you think folklore formed. culture. music. art. PURPOSE????? do you think everything must be commodified? sold? weighed to be valued? has the rot in your soul spread so far you cannot find value in anything not spoken in numbers??? it's FUN. The most interesting thing to me thus far about this whole goncharov thing is that Tumblr has collectively constructed some pretty convincing side characters for this movie. Katya leaps off the page as this frustrated woman caged by her lack of autonomy, Sofia coyly plays both sides and acts above it all when really she's desperate for the same freedom Katya is. Ice Pick Joe is a less developed character who nonetheless acts as a stand in for the inescapable nature of cycles of violence. andrey, loyal to a fault, gets pulled deeper and deeper into goncharov's orbit until there's no way for him to make it out alive

and yet with all that I have ZERO sense of who goncharov is supposed to be himself. i've see a lot of stuff suggesting that the film is theoretically about loss, including the loss of one's identity, shown primarily through the way goncharov becomes unrecognizable to himself by the time of his death at the end of the film (seeing himself in a fractured mirror is a common motif). it's very interesting to me that we have a fine time coming up with a group of collective blorbos based on mafia movie tropes, but somehow the main character feels unknowable, to the degree that we had to make that one of the core themes of the film.

The fact that TikTok is trying to make Zepotha happen like it’s the “new Goncharov” is so offensive because like, there’s already a new Goncharov. And it’s an 80s slasher film. It’s called Goncharov’s Return (or Goncharov’s Revenge in the European release). Just the height of hubris. Learn your history.

okay look, the real reason that zepotha shit is never gonna be Goncharov (besides it being a marketing ploy) is because Goncharov was treated like a fandom (collaborative including celebrities, built upon over time, openly fictional) & zepotha is treated like a tiktok trend (no collaboration, dies fast, treated like reality recklessly). it doesn't matter if it's interesting or cool or what, they've been built on completely different foundations. you're comparing Spiderverse to Endgame here. hydrogen bomb VS coughing baby. zepotha will never have Lynda Carter & Martin Scorsese's approval.
