Some languages just sound great but for specific stuff. Like, the Greek language is amazing for scientific terms and reports and journals and shit like that. If you try making a love confession in Greeks, it's gonna sound cringy as fuck lmaooo

On the other hand, the British language is vague as fuck. And what I mean is that one word can mean a million things. Like English is built to sound fancy and sophisticated but you can have an entire paragraph that sounds absolutely sophisticated and beautiful but has zero essence. It's terrible for scientific terms and reports BUT it's amazing for storytelling and theatre and arts stuff I guess.

And for some ppl french sound very fucking hot (not for me tho).

Now I don't know much on the German language, I just know it sounds great in Mozart's operas and I think it's canon that levi speaks a German-like language considering that in all the voiced osts of snk the lyrics are in German which was an absolutely excellent choice on the composer's side.

My point is, each language got its own charms, but let's face it, Levi's voice is hot af (both dub and sub) so even if he recited a lasagna recipe in Turkish or sth, it'd still sound hot af like pls ruin my life sir

ive listened to a bit of the dub (through clips) and tbh i do like it!! i like brook's voice acting a lot (hes who ive heard the most of. also he nails the laugh, which is very important to me) but luffys voice is so jarring to me i just cannot.. get past it. i think im just too used to the sub luffy after . a decade . of hearing him sound like that. plus i usually have to use subtitles anyways cuz i have an audio processing disorder so. sub is just what i default to. but yeah definitely valid to watch dub instead!! they do a great job from what ive seen :)

it was only super recently where i realized its not inherently a bad thing to like problematic media. to be fair tho there are definitely a lot more problematic fans when u enjoy problematic media, and i see it with one piece a lot. there is a WEIRD amount of transphobes in this community and i cant help but feel like part of that is because of oda's writing spreading some common transphobic ideas. i think hes redeemed himself a lot with the most recent trans characters, and i adore them, but the damage.. is done. but yeah im sure another big part of why theres so much negativity is just because one piece is insanely popular. the bigger the fandom, the bigger the shitty part of it is.

YEAA FELLOW ZORO FAN!! originally my favs were just the top 3 of 1. sanji 2. robin and 3. franky but as we got past water 7 and franky didnt get much more development spotlight he fell a bit just bc i dont get to see him doing much :( still love him though. bc of Shipping Reasons (embarrassing) Zoro got on my radar more and i started to appreciate him as a character more and more. plus he’s just. really badass im ngl. and in addition to that he is. so fucking stupid and uncool and goofy at the same time and that just makes him more likable. so now i just have a quartet of favs cause zoro wormed his way in there somewhere and i hold him dear to my heart. God. GOD. Tony Oliver’s delivery in the betrayal scene is so good.  Lupin is clearly not buying it at all and is quite willing to play along with whatever the hell this is - until Jigen shoots him right in the heart.  That’s going to hurt a lot more than literally when he wakes up, though 1) given that the movie’s barely begun, I’m guessing he’s still not completely buying it (rightfully so) and is gonna look into this and 2) unfortunately this franchise isn’t known for actually digging into all the delicious angst and implications it likes to sling around.  Cowards.

Also, I like that Lupin seems to be wearing a navy shirt and pink tie like he had in early Part 2 instead of the blue shirt/yellow tie he has in the other Red Jacket movies.  Not sure why that’s what they went with but I’m down.

Okay, I went back and watched the betrayal scene in Japanese and OOF, it hits DIFFERENT to hear Kiyoshi Kobayashi deliver those lines.  He’s so utterly casual about it and it’s all the more angsty since he’s, y’know, a million years old, so here his Jigen sounds much more tired/resigned compared to Epcar’s brasher gunman.

The way that the shots focus on not only Jigen, but also Fujiko when the boss asks about the betrayal...nice.  Fujiko doesn’t know for sure if Jigen killed Lupin, but I imagine such a possibility would shake her at least a little - not just because she cares for that silly monkey man, but because that partnership has been a surprising constant in her life.  If even that could finally crumble, her natural cynicism is about to get a whole lot deeper.  Morbidly, she wants to know if Jigen had the balls to do it.  It’d be a hell of a lot more kindred spirit between them than she ever expected if so.  It’s a shame this plot wasn’t used in a Koike movie; it would’ve been great to see the deliberate parallel/foil from TWCFM continue.

“Why don’t we talk about your future?” the boss says as Jigen’s whole demeanor screams What future?  Even though Lupin isn’t dead and Jigen has his reasons for why he did this, Jigen hardly expects forgiveness after all this.  Lupin may be alive but Jigen has just killed the best thing he ever had and he can never get that back (except he can, because movie and long-running franchise, but y’know, Watsonian vs. Doylist).

There were several comments about “reasons I can’t watch it” from different ppl that absolutely killed me and made me lose my faith in humanity once again. 1st one was “they talk too fast” (as in I’m guessing, they’re slow readers and can’t keep up with the subs?? idk), 2nd was “names are too difficult” (I mean, I just imagined them trying to use those 2 brain cells, they’d probably decide that Wei Ying is Wei Wuxian’s twin brother lmao; like yo a given name AND a courtesy name AND some fucking titles and shit? I mean, no, just no, we can’t overwork those cells like this). 

I’m still confused like how dumb can you be to miss out on something so great, bc... you don’t want to like.. think a little bit more?

But the “chinese language is cringy” took the cake, I’m still offended by this the most. Also I don’t even get what exactly makes a language cringy? I understand stuff like when someone says that german language sounds agressive or spanish sexy. But ‘cringy’???? 

Also like taking away the original language of any movie/anime takes away lots of stuff from it, at least to me. I’ve never seen any dub being better than original, no matter the language its translated from. Many do a great and wonderful job, but its still not the same. It can go from like simply ruining the general cultural atmosphere up to completely mistranslating stuff, like many english anime dubs do. So I do not get it seriously. Like.. learn to read faster, my god, it’s like one line per 3-5 secs or smth, how hard it can be?

But then I’m also like checking some of these ppl pages after and go like “yeah, you know what? forget it, this probably isn’t for you” lol lets just call it a natural selection haha. (I mean, it’s true tho, to get it fully, you need to research and read some stuff, and god forbid some ppl to do such things these days, they can’t even get the basic plot, how they’re gonna get this? I really think like mdzs the anime, was made for the fans of the novel, it’s like a pretty rough cut of the story for those who haven’t read it. like untamed can be watched without reading just fine, but the anime is not like that).

And I wish I was kidding, but I’m really partially scared of what this summer can bring into this fandom. Last week a certain fandom traumatized me for life. I just didn’t think the world got to that stage of degradation and brain atrophy these days, but.. here we are. I’m scared some of those just might sneak in, bc it’s BL. Then they’re gonna be yelling that Wei Wuxian is a villain lmfao. 

BTW the thing that brought me back to life is “Word of Honor”. I’M FREAKING OBSESSED!!!!!!!! Have u seen it? I’m 105% sure, you will fall in love with Wen Kexing. 106%. LOL.

Thoughts on Art Dad?

Liam O’Brien is legitimately one of my favorite actors/performers. He’s talented, super committed, and passionate which is a lot of fun to watch (or listen to for voice stuff lmao). It’s funny that pre-watching CR I could’ve recognized his voice because I watched the Naruto English dub before I had access to the sub and so he was always Gaara (and still is, I’ve got a soft spot for dubs), but didn’t really know a whole lot else.

When I first started watching CR I knew he was a theatre nerd pretty much immediately (like I work in a professional theatre environment and have worked with Broadway actors I know the vibe) and I wouldn’t say that I immediately decided he was my favorite, but it didn’t take long. I started watching with c2e69 (that was my first episode and yeah I watched it live with no warning lemme tell you how confusing) and didn’t know fuckall about c1 for a while. Somewhere along the way Vax’s story got spoiled for me and I went to watch some of c1 and was like ‘okay I just won’t get attached’ and five minutes in that went out the window (pretty sure the first thing I saw of c1 was the ‘take me instead you raven bitch’ moment and if it wasn’t that, it was the ‘gosh you’re both so attractive’ moment). Vax was and is my boy, that wonderfully dramatic bisexual motherfucker I love him.

Beyond that, he’s expressive and emotional and completely unafraid of being both. It’s refreshing to see? All of the CR cast is that way, but yeah. He’s just unapologetically filled with love for his family and friends and the game and art. And animals. Adorable. Liam please give us more pictures of Sprigg I’m begging you.

He’s a very captivating roleplayer, ready to go all-in for any moment and interact with any other character, PC or NPC. He’s the kind of roleplayer that will match you for enthusiasm and allow you to push away your self-consciousness and as someone who is currently working on fighting her self-consciousness, that shit’s so cool. Like, I played D&D before I watched CR but due to a multitude of reasons it wasn’t a good game and I didn’t know how to play and wasn’t comfortable RP-ing at all. After I started watching? My god, dude, I’ve learned so much about roleplaying and table etiquette and to be honest? I’ve been trying to emulate Liam’s style. I’m not a trained actor (I have stage and screen experience but I’m usually backstage or behind the camera), but I am a storyteller and have been able to learn to put aside any awkwardness I may be feeling to get into the story. I want to be the type of player that Liam is, to make others feel comfortable roleplaying because they know I’ll match them. Again, all of the cast is so good at RP but it’s something that’s been commented on for Liam, and more importantly it’s something I see (Matt is also excellent at this type of RP and jesus god have I learned a lot from him). I

Also? His grasp of narrative beats and arcs? Holy shit. Vax’s story is literally my favorite of any character in any medium. When I first started watching c1, because I don’t know how to watch anything in order, I saw the end of his story before a lot of the rest of it (it was in a compilation, I don’t watch things in order, don’t ask me why I literally cannot explain to you the thought process behind this) and despite already knowing how it ended and barely knowing anything about the actual dynamics between the characters I was still like ‘oh fuck.’ It destroyed me, in the way a good story should. Vax’s story is heart-wrenching, he’s a character that’s so full of life and love, he wants a happy ending for all of his family and he for a while was hoping for his own with Kiki, and it’s a lot. I imagine watching the story not knowing about the end would highlight different parts of it, but for me, starting where I did, knowing what I knew, the things that always stood out to me were the moments were Vax was most emotional. He really isn’t the sad emo boy he’s got a rep for. Vax was emotional, yes - he felt things a lot, my take was always that he felt too much and didn’t know what to do with it all - and he did deal with depression and anxiety, but Vax loved life and loved his family and the world. And when he made that deal in the tomb, when he came to terms with what being a follower of the Raven Queen, when he started to really learn what it meant to be a paladin and a champion, those moments always stood out more to me. Liam’s talked about how he’s always made choices that felt true to his characters and that just really solidifies Vax’s story to me. Vax accepted his death. Vax felt no bitterness towards the RQ, to Scanlan for not being able to use the Wish, he was not okay with Percy using the contract. He wasn’t trying to back out of it. Vax’s ending was heartbreaking, still is, I will cry right here just thinking about snowdrops - but it never felt cheap. It never felt wrong. I think that Liam (and Matt as well, clearly) pulled that off in that way, staying true to the character and the story the whole time, is incredible.

(On a slightly less heart-breaking note about Vax, that boy is so incredibly bisexual I want to scream, my god as a bisexual person myself it always feels so right god bless you Liam.)

As for Caleb’s story? Maybe, at the end of it, someone who started like I did with Vax will find other things that really stand out, but the things that I always love about Caleb are kind of similar to the ones I love about Vax. Both characters were kind of always running - Vax always seemed to be running towards something, while Caleb’s very obviously been running from - but they’ve both got that kind of emotional drive and when it comes into play, when Vax is talking to or fighting for his family, when Caleb lets himself care about the M9 and even starts to admit it now? Jesus Christ. I’ll cry right here.

Caleb’s also so interesting - I like to go back to the beginning just because ya know I like to anyway, but I like to do it to see how different the characters are, and Caleb’s so different. He’s so scared at the beginning. He’s squishy and scared and I’m pretty sure about two wrong words from just shutting down completely at all times. He’s still squishy and scared, but not as much. He’s still not that far from shutting down completely most of the time - that’s not how recovery works and Liam’s real good at understanding that. But he has changed. He’s grown. It’s not all good development - that’d be boring - and while Caleb has goals, Liam’s not railroading him or his development. But. The Caleb from before episode 26 would’ve never admitted to Veth and Beau that he needed them in an honest way, not so openly, with Yasha there. Hell, while he got better at talking to them, I’m not entirely sure he’d have admitted it before the peace talks. I can’t say if he still thinks he’s using them (he probably does, he still hates himself, that’s too intricately tied with his trauma to be able to just go away even if Caleb wanted it to, which he doesn’t) but he’s called them family now. He’s not just using them to learn. He’s not just with them to find out new magic. He cares, he’s admitted that he cares, and that’s so far from early-campaign Caleb that it’s mind-boggling. I love Caleb Widogast and I love Liam O’Brien’s commitment to story-telling and character development.

This got way longer than I was meaning it to (and accidentally also turned into a character analysis of sorts), but since you did call him Art Dad in the ask I have to say, his excitement for the art and how he recognizes the usernames of artists? Delightful. God bless.

SOOOO I saw the first two episodes of Fruits Basket tonight!!!! 

No spoilers:

 it was absolutely fantastic, the dubbing was amazing, and it looked so beautiful.

The theatre only had Yuki buttons, so I got 3 Yuki buttons (but Funimation literally just tweeted me telling me to DM them my info so they can send me the Kyo & Tohru merch - so if anyone else had similar issues to tweet or DM Funimation on twitter about it) and they showed the first 10-15 minutes in Japanese/subbed. I found it funny that only 1 person got up to inform the staff while everyone else was just like “oh well at least we’re getting to see it now” lmao but they came in and switched it to the dub soon after!

Okay, on to the actual show...

Laura Bailey’s voice seemed a bit higher than her voice in the 2001 anime. It took a bit to get used to solely because I spent the last 2 weeks rewatching the original dub to get used to hearing their voices again (John Burgmeier and Eric Vale’s voices were also slightly different too, but again, I got used to it a few minutes in)

The hat!!! The tattered, old hat! I low key wish it was red, but I’m just happy to have the hat story line at all. They emphasized it so much too. We see it twice in the tent, it falls out of Tohru’s bag after the scene with Kyo fixing her roof, and they had the bit of the hat being placed on Tohru’s head when she was child during her dream. It was so exciting seeing that knowing the entire story about the hat and just imagining finally seeing that story animated! Ahhh!!!

There was so many more details to each scene, and even in the moments when they made “goofy” faces it was all still so amazingly animated. And it’s totally random, but the part when Yuki and Shigure are walking up the stairs, talking about “should we really have a girl here?” stuff, was animated so beautifully! I don’t know why that scene keeps sticking out to me, but I really loved it lol

The comedic moments were so hilariously done. When Shigure tells Yuki and Tohru that Kyo will be transferring to their school, and Yuki stands before him glaring and so obviously pissed was great. And when Shigure was laughing at Tohru living in a tent and when he stops and you just hear Yuki mutter “Oh are you done?” like boy lol

the dramatic moments were well done as well. The entire theatre got quiet when Yuki told Tohru about when he transformed as a child and his friends memories were erased, and there were even some gasps when they showed the bloodied side walk during the Kyoko montage, showing her death.

Real quick, cut back to animation, their faces held so much expression! It was fantastic. Kyo’s face after he broke the table and realized he caused Tohru to bleed - WOW! You could tell his expression wasn’t “oh crap I hurt this random girl that’s done nothing to me” and was more “oh crap I hurt the girl who I’ve known about since i was a child, was friends with her mother, and it’s my fault her mother died!” face lol

I really love the new voice actresses brought in for Uo, Hana, Kyoko, and Akito. They all sounded so wonderful, and I can’t wait to hear more of them.

Also, everyone in the theatre laughed/clapped/said “oh yeah!” when Yuki bitch slapped Kyo after he broke the table lol It was awesome

and hearing Jerry Jewell as Kyo go “YO!” upon his grand entrance made me so unbelievably happy, you cannot believe. 

Kyo’s little flip and landing LIKE A CAT when he jumped out of the school window was so wonderful.

There was a moment, when Shigure told Tohru that she was okay to stay with them, that Yuki said something along the lines of “Are you and Akito plotting something with Miss Honda?” and Shigure said “Would I really do something like that?” and THE ENTIRE THEATRE said “YES” like wow. what a sense of community y’all.

TOHRU CALLS YUKI “SOHMA” INSTEAD OF YUKI. I was so curious about that. She just says “Sohma” and he calls her “Miss Honda”, so now I’m so excited for the Hatsuharu epsiode and she calls him Yuki for the first time lol

Kyo!!!!!!!!!! BLushing!!!!!!!!!!!! Was!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he blushed so much! and the second episode ended with the end of chapter 3, with Tohru asking Kyo if he likes her cooking and Kyo, angry because Yuki is staring at him, says something negative and you hear him in the background back peddling like “uh...no...what i mean is...” lololololol

I don’t know how spoiler-y this was, but these are my overall thoughts. I am so excited to rewatch these episodes April 5th and 12th, and I CAN’T WAIT to see episode 3 on April 19th!!!! I’m so excited!

Dub Abba is so cheesy I love him very much, i love how enthusiastic he is when he said "I JUST BLEW THIS MYSTERY WIDE OPEN" before he got stabbed bu zucchero and also how he summoned his stand like hhhhdhdjalak I wont stop teasing him about it. so i haven’t listened to any of the dub voices for p5 yet??? but i promise i will when i get home and let you know what i think lmaooo. i been too busy out of state to immerse myself into araki’s butthole the way i normally would. i think i’ve heard bruno’s english VA and i wasn’t really a fan i won’t lie... but obviously no offense to anyone who likes the english voices. i just wanted the fake ass italian accents lmaoi’ve been Very curious to hear abbacchio in english for a while tho

2 be fair i watched pts 1 and 2 in english and i really like them??caesar’s super sexy probably fake italian accent?? and josephs hot definitely fake british accent??but then it got to p3 and i felt like they all sounded the same. polnareff didn’t even have a fake french accent going on so i put my foot down and watched the rest in subs

I dunno, it depends? Could be like 30 minutes to an hours? I’d guess like three to five a week? I don’t know numbers lmao

Usually at night because that’s when I have time, but sometimes in between classes.

Anything w/ non or dub con and other abusive implications. A/B/O for basically the reasons listed and also because it gets transphobic sometimes. I also tend to shy away from the more extreme dom/sub dynamics? It’s just not my gig.

The stuff up there but also if I can’t connect w/ the characters’ voices? Like if it feels too ooc for me I’ll usually dip.

Tumblr usually, but I have outsourced to ao3 and wattpad when I can’t find anything I’m in the mood to read!

Just generally if I really enjoy it? I save them in my drafts because I still need to like make a sideblog for recs. But generally if I finish it and I’m like still thinking about it, that’s what does it?

I guess like 2 or 3 am? But sometimes I read fic when I can’t sleep so idk if that counts.
