Arranged marriage , lando/oscar

“How come I'm the girl car?” Oscar asks.  

Lando just about manages not to roll his eyes. What is he frickin’ doing, they're not allowed to say shit like that when they're being recorded. He can see Oscar realise the same thing. Lando’s smile feels strained, but he's panicked his way through enough of these that he knows it doesn't show on camera, knows he looks normal.   

He needs to say something before Oscar starts blushing because then they'll never hear the end of it. Even his mum has seen TikToks about them at this stage. 

Though, he thinks, this is kind of marketing's fault. Like, showing them a picture of their cars getting married is a bit out of pocket, actually. They're meant to be friendly in these videos, sure, but implied marriage doesn't really seem to align with their strategic vision for increased positive interaction from key demographics, or whatever. Lando’s car has a bowtie and Oscar’s has a veil. How did Mark approve this? Jesus, how did Oscar’s Mark approve this? At least Lando’s the boy. 

It just feels like they're being stitched up, is all, now that he thinks about it. He can’t even remember the name of whatever bullshit AI the ad is for. Ugh, whatever, he can do these in his sleep at this stage. Has had some weird dreams to this effect, though probably not the time to start thinking about those. 

“You're the girl car ‘cause you're more responsible,” he says, finally. Manages not to grit his teeth at least. There, now they can move on. 

Oscar frowns at him. Jeez, fucking what? 

“Girls don't always have to be the responsible one in a relationship,” Oscar says, eyebrows all concerned. 

Bro. Literally what the fuck? Lando's trying his best here to dig them out of this hole. Thanks for nothing. 

“I know that,” he says, trying to land on the right side of the smile-grimace line, “girls can be whatever they want.” 

He’d like to see Oscar argue with that one on camera. 

“That's right,” Oscar says. He doesn't sound sure. 

Jesus Christ, when is someone going to yell cut? 

“Anyway, I just think you'd be a better fit as the girl car,” Oscar says.  

Lando might punch him. Surely that would be less, like, problematic for the brand than if they keep on like this.  

Fuck it, might as well lean into this disasterclass.  

“Y’know,” he says, leaning in a bit, flashing a grin he doesn't mean, “you can just say you think I'm pretty mate.” 

There. Ha. Nothing Oscar can say to that without being properly cancelled.

Oscar's gone red. He's doing a valiant job of maintaining eye contact, but Lando can see the sides of his mouth starting to slip.  

“Everyone thinks you're pretty,” he says. It’s a few seconds later before he adds, “mate. Anyway, I think the veil would probably look better on you, I mean” — he takes a second to visibly pull himself together as his blush turns scarlet — “on your car.” 

Lando’s brain bluescreens. Something's thumping in the background—that's going to fuck up the audio. It takes him a second to realise it's his own pulse. Fuck. 

“Makes sense mate,” he manages eventually. No, it doesn’t. “The white looks better on my skin anyway, right pasty, I mean Piastri? Our cars are the same colour though, lucky for you.”  

Not his best work but Jesus Christ, they just need to get through this. He might be coming down with something. 

Was that a compliment? Lando’s honestly not sure. Like, if he said that to somebody else, he would one hundred percent be taking the piss, but that’s not the read he’s getting from Oscar. Never is, actually. Oscar’s insults are usually delivered with a bit more fondness. It’s, like, nice. Means he’s pretty sure Oscar likes him is all. Good to know where you stand with someone. 

Lando should probably say something back. Something funny, something normal. “Anyway, you’d look good in a suit mate, or like your car I guess.” 

Shit. 

Lando knows, he fucking knows, that he's got a blush to match now. Oscar’s not much better. He's not as gormless with this shit like he was when he started, can usually fill a silence if Lando’s not feeling it, but he doesn’t look like he’s about to save them now. He keeps making eye contact with Lando then flicking towards the camera, then back again. Lando can’t think of a single thing to say. Has his skin always felt too small for his body? Has he ever seen Oscar this red before? 

“Let's keep focus on the product guys,” someone yells.

I have a question about the jp server pickups, since I really want knight Sebek, but I’m trying to save gems for bloom malleus + the 3rd tsum event that’s gonna show up sooner or later. Iirc, after knight Sebek, the next story update’s pickup had all of the previous story cards (ie cerberus Ortho, general Lilia, and knight Sebek). Is this true, and if it is, did it include a token system like the dorm pickups where you can just do 100 pulls and then buy the specific card you want directly? Because if that is how it works, then I can wait until then and be sure I won’t have to go to 200 for him.

we did indeed get a second chance at those three when 7-7 came out! I'm pretty sure there was not a token system -- though admittedly I don't 100% remember, sorry! 🙇 I took a quick search through some past posts/videos from people who tend to include the gacha and news stuff, but I didn't see any mention of it, so I'm inclined to think there really wasn't one. :( they were all separate pickups with their own pull counts rather than a combined one, if that info helps at all.

speaking as a strict f2p who hoards keys/gems like the lovechild of a dragon and a magpie, given the choice between saving for a story card and a birthday card, I'd go for story -- it does require a lot of patience, but there are way more opportunities to get past birthday cards, both from the anniversary events and the rerun pickups! tsums is a bit harder to say anything on because Eng doesn't follow the same event schedule, but it's a longish event and those pickups let you have a free 10-roll, so I think they're also a bit easier to save up for.

(ALSO speaking of free rolls, starting with the fifth round of birthdays -- the kutsurogi my room ones -- the birthday boy/union jacket/bloom cards have had a separate pickup that you can get two free 10-pulls at by doing missions! I got a bloom Jade from it a couple weeks ago. :D meanwhile general Lilia is the only story card I've ever managed to pull, so...I'm probably kinda biased. whoops.)
