some details that i loved in la chimera (spoiler heavy) :
i posted this on twitter as well but i wanted to include it here too. i love this little moment here where italia rests her head on arthur's shoulder and for a brief moment, he's anchored to the present by that touch, but him being the orpheus that he is, just HAD to turn back and find himself gravitating towards the tombs, the past and his eurydice.
Tumblr media
the fact that italia's name is literally italy in italian and by the end of the movie she creates a community of her own where she's looking out for those that are outcasted by society, in an abandoned train station named riparbella which literally means "to start again".
Tumblr media
arthur's eye always being blocked by shadow throughout the movie until he sees the light at the very end
Tumblr media Tumblr media
according to wiki, the goddess the statue is based on is cybele, goddess of nature, animals, wild places and represents the "creative and destructive force of nature." her phrygian name matar (mother) alludes to the fact that she was a "mediator between the boundaries of the known and unknown, the civilized and the wild, the worlds of the living and the dead." i love that this goddess' presence in the movie symbolizes arthur traversing between the living and the dead worlds and getting closer to beniamina. i love that by the end of the movie, the statue itself becomes unknown to human eyes and returns to the wild, far away from civilization, which is arguably the same fate that arthur meets as he dies.
Tumblr media
the red string that's following arthur around is very reminiscent of the red string ariadne gives theseus to find his way through the maze. it's beautiful how this red string seems to appear only in his dreams at first but slowly starts crossing the boundaries of dreams and reality as the movie goes on until he is able to tug at it by the end and cross over into beniamina's world.
Tumblr media
arthur, at the beginning of the movie, says "so it's you. my last woman's face." how cool is it that beniamina's face resembles cybele's?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
arthur goes back to flora's house after being injured and her daughter finds him in the bathroom. spooked, she says "i thought it was a ghost" which arthur might as well be considering how he's essentially been a walking corpse this entire movie.
Tumblr media
also a special shout out from the bottom of my heart to the sped up sequences, didn't even realize how badly i needed them until i saw them. the chaos in these sequences is everything to me. this is REAL cinema!
Tumblr media
in general, one of the themes that i've come to love about this movie is how objects can have different meanings to everyone. an object like the bell arthur found was just "a thing that rings" whereas italia interprets it as a gift until she comes to realize it's been excavated from a grave. the statue was part of a shrine back when it was made, but to the tombaroli and the sellers, this is only a means to make more money. the train station started off as a place that symbolizes movement of people from the city to the countryside but has now become a home for the outcasts of society. the apotropaic phallus would've have warded off evil and bad luck back in the day, but is now used as a means of escape from the law. a simple red string is the literal lifeline for arthur as he tries to find his way back to his lover.
Tumblr media
also want to give another shout out to the inclusion of the italian troubadours (our greek chorus) who beautifully spell out the tragedy of our protagonist and his gang.
Tumblr media
speaking of music, i really liked this particular song italia was singing as she was practicing. the lyrics go "i'd like to explain to you, o god/ where my suffering lies/ but fate condemns me to weep/ to weep" and that's exactly when arthur finds her crying son. at least italia finds a way for her suffering to end by the end of the movie. maybe we can say the same about arthur too?
Tumblr media
i'll probably add more as i keep rewatching the movie lol and make a thread of this on twitter too (x) thanks for sticking around and let me know what other cool details y'all noticed!

you didn't know how it lined up so perfectly, but it did. there was normally a week break between football and basketball season and that weekend just so happened to be the weekend that kiss was going to be in indianapolis for their animalize world tour. it was too perfect of an opportunity to pass up.
it definitely took some sneaking around to work out the kinks, but you made it work. your parents thought you were spending the night at chrissy's and to return the favor to chrissy, her parents were under the impression that she was sleeping over at your place—she was really at jason's.
you were losing yourself as heaven's on fire blasted throughout market square arena. your blood felt electric while coursing through your veins and your throat started to sting in the best way from screaming the lyrics at the top of your lungs.
it was nice to dance on the weekend in your jeans to music you adored rather than in your cheer skirt for the hawkins high sports team. you loved cheer. it was everything to you, but nothing matched the experience you were soaking in right now.
you were so lost in it all that you almost didn't feel the tap on your shoulder and you definitely weren't expecting to see the face you turned to.
"eddie?" you called loudly in an attempt to be heard over the loud music.
he stepped closer to you so you could hear each other better. "so, my eyes don't deceive me. it is y/n y/l/n, queen of hawkins high."
you playfully rolled your eyes at him. the nickname was never your favorite, but it was what it was. you leaned forward to be closer to his ear. "in the flesh."
you had seen the boy smile a lot. he always did when he was with his friends at school or when he was being theatrical on the cafeteria tables during lunch. but something about the grin he wore now combined with the sheen of sweat on his skin and his wilder-than-normal curls had your knees feeling a little weak.
he tilted himself forward to speak in your ear. "what are you doing here?"
"what?" you started, a smirk growing on your lips. you knew no one from school ever expected to see you at a concert like this, but you liked to know you had some surprises up your sleeve. "didn't expect me to be a fan?"
"honestly, no, but, i always knew you were at least a little bit cool," he teased. he glanced around and noticed there was no one with you. "you're here alone?"
"yeah."
"me too," he stated before looking down for a second and then meeting your eyes once more. "well, i'll let you get back to your little dancing bubble, but it was a nice surprise to see you here."
eddie took a step away from you, but your fingers circled his wrist to hold him back. his brows tugged together when he looked back at you.
"wait, stay. you're good company, munson."
this time, you swore you'd collapse at the smile he showed you.

The Beef Stroganoff Song! (arbitrary subtitle discourse edition)
So, you may have noticed here that the subtitles in this clip (from Symphogear GX episode 3) are fairly different from what you're used to seeing when people post this video, and the phrasing in the subtitles is fairly different from what the associated memes often say
For those who don't know, Symphogear got itself released on blu-ray by Discotek, and with that came with a new translation authored by Noelle (@ulsairi on twitter ) who is notable for being the only trans lesbian anime translator I know of off the top of my head.
Her translation appears, in my opinion, really rather polished and very good, and I strongly appreciate the way it's written and how much character it adds to the dialogue by giving everyone distinct voices and adapting things into more natural English. It's also a fair bit gayer. I haven't encountered many people who've seen these subs, but I think most fans of the series would consider these a net positive change. There are some people who are mad about these subtitles, and they can die mad.
Anyway, let's talk about the different phrasing of the beef stroganoff song. I'm mostly going to compare to Crunchyroll's subtitles for reference since that seems to be what most others go off of. Here's a link to that version.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So right off the bat we can see here that while CR's translation appears to be a lot more, for lack of a better word, functional, Noelle's translation tries to apply more dialectal force "it's beef stroganoff/Yes! It's THAT beef stroganoff!" And generally communicate through the tone how excited the girls are to get started. Additionally you'll see throughout that the latter is a fair bit more lyrical, there's a lot more punctuation and verbal tics and filler phrases written into the dialogue to express that they are singing, which makes sense since Japanese tends to omit a lot of the sorts of prepositions that Noelle threw in here,
Like, Yumi (yes I went and looked up her name on the wiki) just says "beef stroganoffu" because it's obvious from context that it is beef stroganoff, she doesn't need to spell it out, at least, not in Japanese
(We know like maybe ten hiragana and 1 kanji do not trust us on Japanese this is all just basic shit we learned from online guides)
So this probably leads to a rushed translator from Crunchyroll (they are notoriously crunched for time) who's just trying to Get It Done probably not really bothering to throw in extra additional connecting letters to express the tone of the character, only doing so when it's required to make basic grammatical sense in the target language. So they likely didn't think to make the subtitles have flourishes like this that aren't explicitly in the original Japanese. Noelle meanwhile had the time to consider things like this and take such liberties in order to attempt to convey the same tone that was arguably implied by the Japanese, even if not explicitly put forth
And that's about all the things I should not repeat I guess, TL;DR, these subtitles are more fun to read because the translator had more time to think about the best way to make them more fun while still being accurate to the spirit of the original dialogue, who'd have thought!
(In case you're wondering, the Commie subtitles say kind of the same thing here, and y'know, it doesn't seem like a wrong translation, but also I really dislike this subtitle styling, orange on pink with that font and that drop shadow is just kinda bad. I appreciate the effort but like. Come on. Please fansubbers, please think about if the font and colors you chose actually work with the image you're putting them on)
Tumblr media
Moving on!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
horizontal and middle rhyme with each other so you can almost actually sing this, actually let me take a moment to try it right now- never mind, I can't sing. Hahaha. I don't actually think it lines up that well with the melody But I thought it did! Didn't I? That's significant, that this actually reads like plausible lyrics to a silly song someone made up instead of a literal translation of a Japanese song
Anyway, here comes the first major difference!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in the Crunchyroll subtitles, Yumi says "it doesn't have to be beef" which in English (in my estimation) sounds a tad scatterbrained, like, "oh yeah sure beef but whatever really it doesn't actually matter," while Noelle's subtitles rather say "Got no beef? Don't you worry!" Which implies something different.
"It is recommended to use beef, but you may substitute something else if you are sorely lacking in beef" as opposed to "Oh the beef doesn't actually matter, zoinks lol!" CR's translation is kind of a bit funnier in how it sorta comes from nowhere without this qualification, which probably lead to this phrase's memeticness, but Noelle's translation seems more reasonable to me so yeah again, tada, yay for sensicalness.
Now here's another interesting change:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, the flat manner in which the CR subtitles say "finish with salt" with rendezvous only being included because that's literally what they said, is sort of absent any stronger emotional implication,
Noelle's translation meanwhile going with "don't forget them, they need it" imparts personhood upon the salt and pepper. The implication being that the girls are saying, "the salt and pepper are in love, please reunite them, they must be in gay love together." Or maybe you think the salt and pepper cannot be forgotten and must be reunited because they are Only Friends.
Whether you choose to believe that this is the salt and pepper getting married, or merely subtext, or an interpretation, or salt and pepper shipping bait, this is a deeply important tonal indicator because it reminds you that these girls are ultimately playing with their food!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"And there, now you're in for a treat!" I don't think I need to explain this one.
Now, here's an interesting one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Crunchyroll subtitles, it just says the memetic "boys don't know this." With no context, no elaboration, no clarity, no qualifiers. Boys don't know. Did the boys magically get their brains wiped? Are the boys biologically incapable? Who knows. Nothing is said but that.
Noelle's subtitles, on the other hand, qualify this statement by saying "Boys aren't taught to cook, so they may not know" (And note again how, it says "kno-ow" to emphasize, once more, that they're singing, and also this lines up with the long "ooooo" sound they make at the end of this lyric, so cool)
There is now context! Boys aren't taught to cook! Anime and Japan's culture in general still pigeonholes people into gender roles! And an anime translator just wrote you a hidden translation note about it! You might be a boy, you might know how to cook, but certain boys in another part of the world aren't traditionally taught cooking, so they may not know
They may not, but they could!
Trust a trans person to express gender facts with subtle nuances like this in anime translations.
And with that lovely bit of good translation and good writing and good localization of a thing to make it make sense to people
Mew!

Summer's Finale
Carlo x Reader
The reason I deleted the previous post because I found so many spelling errors in it(like, Carlo became Calro or Caro; stalker become Hunter or something). Damn the translator.
Tumblr media
Every summer, your parents would send you to your grandparents' house up in the mountains during the school break. Their reasoning was that the air up there was cleaner than in the city, and breathing in some fresh air would be beneficial for your health.
You were always frail and prone to illness since childhood. It seemed like you were either catching one illness or another throughout the year. Your parents had to take care of you while managing their work responsibilities, so summer vacation was an opportunity for them to take a breather by leaving you in the care of others. At least, that's how you perceived it.
You didn't dislike living in the mountains. Every morning, you would venture into the forest, playing and making friends with small animals and flowers. Sometimes you would go fishing with your grandfather. When you got tired, you would return home and relish the delectable dishes prepared by your grandmother. In the evening, you would sit on the backyard swing with your grandfather, gazing up at the vast expanse of the starry night sky. The stars were so big and bright there, a sight that couldn't be compared to anything you could see in the city. Your grandfather would point out constellations and share their stories with you.
Although your days in the mountains were joyful, you missed your father and mother who lived in the city. And now, you longed for your grandparents who resided in the heavens.
You didn't attend your grandparents' funeral back then because you didn't like shedding tears in front of others. You believed it would only make your grandfather and grandmother sad to see you cry.
Since your grandparents' passing, you never returned to the mountains.
You don't know when it started, but the house became so quiet, eerily quiet.
One evening, your parents sat at opposite ends of the couch, resembling two books, without much interaction. Just a while ago, as long as the door between the kitchen and the living room was left open, you would hear laughter. Sometimes your father would crack jokes, making you burst into laughter, and even your mother would smile. You didn't always grasp the jokes, but because everyone was laughing, you laughed along.
But somehow, your parents gradually reduced the frequency of their conversations, and sometimes they wouldn't even glance at each other. You tried to continue being the book and engage them in trivial chatter, but it felt cold. Coldness emanated from both ends of the couch, and your defrosting mechanisms couldn't handle it. You had to leave because that coldness would freeze your cheeks, causing tears to well up in your eyes.
A few months ago, you tried once: "Would you like to hear a joke I heard at school today?"
Your parents remained silent.
Your father was reading the article in his hands. He glanced at his daughter, his expression somewhat surprised, then lowered his head and continued reading.
The article he was reading was about a mysterious stone called "Ergo," with complex content that you couldn't comprehend. Your father was a member of the Alchemist Guild, busy with work and shrouded in mystery. He never told you what his work exactly entailed, nor did he allow you to enter his study.
Meanwhile, your mother didn't even lift her head, her eyes fixed on the sheet music, occasionally making amendments. Your mother was a musical composer, currently putting all her efforts into her comeback piece (she had given up her work previously to care for you when you were young).
"Why don't skeletons fight?" you decided to stick to the plan.
"Why?" Your father casually replied, flipping through the article.
"My dear, what did you just say?" your mother asked. She had just written what she believed to be her best lyrics yet.
For some unknown reason, you sat there motionless, drenched in sweat yet shivering with cold, a chilling sensation that penetrated to your very core. In the end, you had no choice but to escape from your distant parents and seek solace in your own room. There, you lay on your bed, burying your head in the pillow, weeping. From that moment on, you often closed the door, retreating into your own world.
Your father had a demanding job that frequently took him away on business trips to distant places, sometimes for an entire month. The last time he returned from an overseas trip, he brought you a cute little cat. You named him "Spring" because he arrived in your home during the springtime.
At that time, Spring had just turned one month old. He was merely the size of a palm, with sparse orange fur that made him resemble a little old man. But his eyes were large and round, with a small nose and soft, tender pads on his tiny paws. You loved squeezing them.
Spring was fierce towards others; if someone reached out to touch him, he would hiss, warning them that if they dared to touch him, he would not hesitate to sink his sharp fangs into their hands. However, Spring showed no aversion to your touch. Every time you approached him, he wagged his tail happily, greeting you. He intentionally rubbed against your hand, indicating his desire to be petted. And when you stroked him, he emitted a contented purr, as if thoroughly enjoying the moment.
Sometimes, he would jump onto the windowsill and gaze outside, lost in thought. Observing his increasingly mature figure, you couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. You thought to yourself, if you were taken away from your mother at birth, you would also feel heartbroken.
You loved Spring, and you loved your father for giving him to you. You believed that your father loved you too, but he didn't understand you, and you realized you didn't understand him either.
Although you had some friends at school, you still felt an indescribable loneliness. It wasn't the absence of people around you, but rather the absence of someone with whom you could share the depths of your innermost feelings.
Loneliness is like an unfathomable abyss, without end, without a destination, only darkness and emptiness. You stand alone at the edge of this abyss, gazing into its bottomless darkness, feeling as if you are plummeting into it, unable to escape. Loneliness is your deepest fear because you are alone in the midst of a crowd, and there is nothing more terrifying than that.
In school, it is inevitable to encounter troubles at times, but you never speak up about them. You portray yourself as cool on the surface, but deep inside, you are fragile. Sometimes, you also want to show vulnerability, to seek comfort, and to cry in your mother's embrace, pouring out the injustices you have faced. However, your self-esteem prevents you from doing so. At times, you also wonder when and how you became so awkward.
But home is not always peaceful either. Sometimes, your parents argue fiercely, unabashedly expressing their hatred for each other through their words. During those times, you would hide in your room with Spring, covering your head with a pillow, as if it could shield you from the unbearable insults.
At the beginning of the new semester, your parents, who care for you flawlessly, send you to a boarding school. There is another boy who transfers alongside you. He has curly black hair, chestnut-colored eyes, and a few freckles on his fair face. When introducing himself, he only mentions his name and refuses to say another word.
He is reserved and never initiates conversations. Classmates perceive him as peculiar, and they all find it difficult to accept him, but you, on the other hand, don't mind. Sometimes, you also dislike talking. Even after a long time since the start of the school year, he remains solitary, often seen nestled in the music room, playing the piano alone, completely immersed in his own world. When it rains, he doesn't use an umbrella, yet he never falls ill. You envy him for that.
Perhaps there is some hidden force at work, as you always seem to encounter him here and there. When you meet each other's gaze, you see familiarity in the eyes of this boy named Carlo—a familiar loneliness that you also see reflected in your own eyes when you look in the mirror. Yet, when you pass by each other, you always want to say something to him, but the words fail to escape your lips. So, you lower your head, avoiding his sorrowful eyes, pretending not to have noticed him.
Lonely individuals stand out too prominently in a crowd, attracting some unscrupulous individuals. One day, you witness a group of senior students bullying him. Without a second thought, you courageously step forward to confront those individuals. However, relying solely on your and Carlo's strength, you are no match for the powerful and imposing senior students. You both end up being at a disadvantage until another boy comes to your aid. Only with his help do you manage to defeat those students, although the three of you sustain injuries. But you believe that after this incident, no one will dare to bully him again.
The helpful boy who introduced himself as Romeo had a ghostly mane of golden hair and fair skin, resembling a prince straight out of a fairy tale. He carried himself with grace and elegance, and his voice was gentle and soothing. However, he was the most valiant among the three of you. In the recent altercation, he single-handedly defeated a senior student.
"Why did you help me?" the boy asked in the infirmary, his eyes fixed on the bandaged hand.
After contemplating for a moment, you replied calmly, "There isn't any specific reason. I simply detest injustice and unfairness."
"Same here," Romeo said. "How could I stand idly by when I see someone being bullied?"
Carlo remained silent for a while, then spoke up, "Why did you come to Monad Charity House?"
Romeo shrugged indifferently and replied, "I'm an orphan. I was sent here a long time ago."
You couldn't bring yourself to reveal the truth as candidly as Romeo did, so you spoke in a low voice, "My parents didn't have time to take care of me, so they dumped me here."
"Me too," Carlo chuckled self-mockingly, but there was a tinge of sadness in his tone. "My father is a puppet maker, and he invests more energy in his puppets than in me. Sometimes I wonder what my purpose of existence truly is. Why didn't he just make a puppet son instead?"
"Perhaps we are all just accidents," you muttered.
Instead of feeling offended by your words, Carlo burst into laughter. His hearty laughter infected both you and Romeo, and you couldn't help but laugh together until the nurse warned you, and the three of you stopped.
From that day on, the three of you became inseparable friends. Despite the whispers and gossip of your classmates, you paid no mind because you had each other's company.
The pressure of schoolwork often made you yearn for an escape, but you didn't know where to go.
"Learning all these things that I won't need in the future will rot my brain," Carlo complained. "I want to be a stalker, not an alchemist. Why do I have to study all this unnecessary stuff?"
"If you want to be a stalker, you still have to graduate from here. But right now, you can't even pass a simple quiz. You better just dream about it," Romeo taunted.
"That's my dream, alright. Can't I have dreams?" Carlo retorted with annoyance. "What about you? What's your dream? What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Romeo rested his chin on his hand and lightly tapped his lips with his index finger. "I also want to be a stalker."
Carlo narrowed his eyes. "How despicable! You're copying me."
Romeo rolled his eyes. "No, I did not. Don't make things up."
"Alright then. Y/n, what about you? What's your dream?" Carlo turned his head towards you, who had been diligently working on your math homework.
"Huh? Well..." Caught off guard by the question about your own dream, you couldn't answer immediately. After pondering for a while, you finally spoke up, "I want to be an alchemist."
Carlo and Romeo exchanged glances at each other, then turned their gaze back to you without uttering a word, just staring at you.
Unaccustomed to being the center of attention, you felt somewhat uneasy. So, you asked them, "What's going on? Why aren't you saying anything?"
They continued to silently stare at you for a while longer. Carlo was the first to break the silence, sighing before saying, "Ah, what a bore."
Romeo followed suit, sighing as well. "I thought your dreams would be more grand, like becoming a stalker."
"If word of that gets out, it wouldn't surprise me if you end up dead in the streets one day," you calmly retorted to Romeo. "And what's not great about being an alchemist? Sofia's father is an alchemist. He discovered the Ergo and supports this charity house. I think he's quite remarkable."
Carlo shook his head. "Alchemists are a bunch of hypocrites, driven solely by greed. Of course, I'm not targeting Sofia's father specifically, but all alchemists in general."
"Ah, typical Carlo! Saying things I dare not say," Romeo laughed.
"If alchemists are truly as you describe, then I'll be a breath of fresh air in the alchemy world," you half-jokingly, half-seriously said. Then, with long eyelashes lowered, you spoke in a detached tone, "I want to find a cure for petrification disease. Both my grandparents died from it."
You lowered your head, reminiscing about your departed loved ones, and a hint of bitterness welled up in your heart.
Carlo paused, no longer using sharp words to challenge you. He placed his hand on your shoulder and smiled faintly, saying, "Then I'll become your stalker, protecting you."
Romeo exaggeratedly shivered and rubbed his arms, saying, "Ugh, you're so cheesy, Carlo."
"Shut up," Carlo blushed, avoiding Romeo's gaze. However, his actions only made Romeo more eager to tease him.
Romeo leaned closer to Carlo, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Could it be... you have feelings for Y/n?"
"Uh—!" Carlo let out a sudden, awkward yelp, perhaps realizing his own indiscretion. He pretended to cough a few times to cover up his embarrassment and stammered, "Wh-who, who likes her? I'm just protecting her out of knightly spirit!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Romeo raised an eyebrow, looking at Carlo skeptically.
Romeo snorted. "I see. Well, just don't spout nonsense! I'm leaving!" With that, he picked up his assignment and quickly turned to leave the library.
Romeo turned to look at you, and you could only shrug helplessly.
"What about you? What kind of feelings do you have for Carlo?" he suddenly asked.
Caught off guard by the question, you hesitated for a moment before stammering, "I-I feel... what I feel towards Carlo..."
Deep down, you had always admired Carlo's talents and character, but you wondered if you had developed romantic feelings for him, the kind commonly referred to as love. You weren't entirely sure yourself. Although you couldn't be certain, you had similar emotions in your heart.
"I don't know either," you softly replied to Romeo.
Besides studying and doing assignments together, the three of you often wandered aimlessly, doing nothing in particular. Even though you didn't do much, you felt content because the feeling of companionship was wonderful.
Through your interactions with Carlo, you gradually understood why he enjoyed being in the rain. Standing there, allowing the pouring rain to drench you, there was a indescribable feeling. Under the relentless downpour, all worries were washed away, leaving only a pure sense of connection with nature.
When you were completely soaked by the rain, with your clothes sticking to your body and your hair softly clinging to your face, an unprecedented sense of liberation would envelop you. In that moment, you felt so light, as if all burdens had been washed away along with the rain.
Perhaps that was why Carlo was so fascinated by the feeling of rain. Only through the powerful impact of heavy rain could you both escape from the mundane world, briefly forgetting the realities that couldn't be avoided in daily life. Even if it was only for a short while, this experience of freedom far surpassed the ordinary.
Just that alone was enough to fill the emptiness and monotony in your heart. And perhaps, it was because of this that Carlo allowed himself to be engulfed by the rain time and time again.
Even though you would catch a cold after getting drenched in the rain, you had no regrets.
When the mid-semester arrived, your parents separated.
From that day on, you felt exhausted, unable to muster any energy to do anything. Whenever you thought about the fact that your parents no longer loved each other, an inexplicable sense of suffocation welled up in your heart.
If possible, you just wanted to sleep forever, to escape the weight and pain that burdened you.
Perhaps you could never regain your composure. You despised yourself for being so lifeless, yet you couldn't summon the strength to change that. You didn't know how to deal with these emotions, so you allowed yourself to drift along, at the mercy of the tides. You thought, if you couldn't rise above, why not sink beneath?
You spent quite a long time in this state of despondency until Carlo and Romeo uttered those words to you.
"Let's leave this place together!"
On that midsummer night, the three of you packed your bags and secretly escaped from the Monard Refuge. You traveled by train, a farmer's truck, and walked along mountain roads for a long time until you reached your grandparents' ancestral home. Apart from a bit more dust and the absence of two adorable old people, the interior remained unchanged, as if time had ceased to flow here, and your grandparents were just out for a walk, about to return any moment.
Carlo discovered grandfather's piano and began pressing a few keys, transforming the fragmented notes into a beautiful melody. Inspired, you picked up grandmother's violin and accompanied Carlo's tune with your fingertips and the bow.
The piano's unrestrained melody flowed like a free-spirited river, while the violin's delicate and melodious notes sailed alongside, like a small boat adrift. They journeyed side by side, chasing and evading each other, intertwining and leaning on one another, yet leaving enough space for the other to shine, completing a graceful composition.
As the piece concluded, Romeo sitting nearby applauded and handed you a bunch of freshly picked bluebells. You closed your eyes and smelled the flowers, but all you could detect was a faint scent of rust.
"Strange, why does it smell like blood?" an indescribable unease arose within you.
You opened your eyes again and noticed that the blue petals were covered in dark red streaks. Panicked, you lowered your head and discovered that the back of the hand holding the flowers was already stained with fresh blood.
Only then did you realize that the tingling sensation deep in your nasal cavity was due to your own nosebleed. You tried to wipe it away with the back of your hand, but the blood continued to flow incessantly, staining the entire bluebell. Startled, your hand loosened its grip, and the blood-soaked flower slipped from your palm and fell to the ground.
"Are you alright, Y/n?" Carlo looked at you with concern, his brown eyes filled with worry.
"I'm fine," you managed a weak smile, attempting to reassure him.
"Sit down for now, I'll go get a towel for you," Romeo said and walked away.
"Are you really okay?" Carlo asked, his expression still filled with doubt.
"Don't see me as so fragile. It's just a nosebleed," you said with a smile, trying to ease his concerns.
Carlo nodded, although he didn't seem entirely convinced.
When night fell, you wandered through the serene forest. At the end of the forest lay a beautiful lake. In the past, you often went fishing with your grandfather in a small boat.
In the stillness of the night, the lake appeared pitch black, adorned with stars that resembled scattered golden dust. The radiant moon hung high in the sky, its reflection resembling a jade disc sinking into the water. You paddled the small boat to the center of the lake and lay down, gazing up at the starry canopy. In the profound darkness, the starlight shimmered like a vast sea, captivating and captivating the imagination. No words were spoken, as you immersed yourselves in this mystical and enchanting starry night.
You wished time could freeze in this moment.
After this brief journey, you fell seriously ill, even more so than before. Throughout the day, you were only awake for one or two hours, spending the rest of the time in a semi-conscious state.
The dreams concocted by your feverish mind were terrifying and distorted. You dreamed of endlessly falling into an abyss of darkness, much like the protagonist of that well-known tale who fell down a rabbit hole in pursuit of a rabbit. However, she arrived in an incomprehensible realm after landing, encountering a group of peculiar individuals, while you simply continued to descend endlessly.
You struggled to grasp onto something, but found nothing around you. Your descent resembled a runaway roller coaster, with suffocating fear filling your chest. Finally, you woke up, drenched in sweat, gasping for breath.
At that moment, a small hand reached out immediately. You strained to open your heavy eyelids and saw a seated figure in blue, albeit blurred.
Your lips curled slightly upwards as you spoke with your frail, broken voice, "Oh, Carlo... I fell."
"Hey, but I caught you." Carlo said with a smile. "Would you like some water?"
"No, drinking water makes me nauseous now. How long have you been here?"
"I came right after school. I begged the principal for a long time to let me come see you."
You remained silent. Speaking was a laborious and unbearable task for you. So, you simply held onto Carlo's hand. But as you gazed at him, your face slightly lifted, you noticed a glimmer in his clear, wide eyes. You couldn't help but ask, "Did you cry?"
"No," Carlo denied vehemently.
"I saw your tears."
"It's just... some sand got in my eyes."
His actions only confirmed your suspicion. Thus, you said, "Did you think I was going to die, so you-"
"No, it's not like that," Carlo softly interrupted. "It's just that seeing you in so much pain made my heart ache. I was upset with myself because I couldn't take away your suffering or become you to bear it for you. And then, tears fell without me even realizing it. But I'm not crying."
"You fool."
Carlo looked up, his face filled with astonishment.
"You don't need to blame yourself at all." you said. "Even if you could become me, I wouldn't want you to endure this pain. I'm already grateful that you can be here with me."
Carlo didn't say anything, and neither did you. Words turned into a clear pool of water, with one teardrop after another gently sliding down from your eyes. And then, nothing remained.
※※※
As the summer drew to a close, she vanished.
It was a few hours before her passing when Carlo last spoke to her.
At her request, he wheeled her wheelchair and took her to the garden outside the hospital.
"The weather is lovely today," she said, gazing at the sky, her face slowly breaking into a gentle smile. "But I truly wish I could take another walk in the rain with you and Romeo."
Carlo listened perplexed, unsure why she was saying such things.
"There will be a chance, so you must live well," he replied.
She silently gazed into his eyes. "I'm sorry... but I am happy because I had the chance to know you all, and I truly like you all. I really like you. Become an extraordinary stalker, Carlo."
She smiled faintly, no longer saying anything more, and Carlo felt that he had been waiting a long time for these words.
Then they fell silent, just quietly observing the scenery.
Suddenly, the view before them became radiant. Thin clouds in the sky parted, allowing sunlight to pour over the earth, and the green grass and trees stood tall as if blessing the world.
This conversation became their final exchange. A few hours later, she passed away.
At the beginning of September, during a rainy autumn funeral, Carlo once again played the song they had performed together on the mountain during the summer, but this time without the accompaniment of the violin.
The melodies of summer, long gone, soared through the autumn, seeking their old fortress.

HELLO THERE LOVE I HAVE TWK ASKS
Apologies if you’ve answered these prior!
I. Where did you get the name Antares?
II. How many songs from the canon movie are you keeping in?
III. How are you planning to show the songs? (Ie, writing, animatics, etc.)
IV. Are you doing any lyric changes?
V. Do you have voice actors decided yet?
VI. Where did you get Leo, Gillia, and Dextrous’s names?
VII. How old was Asha when Mag and Amaya took her under their wing?
VIII. Will we ever see TWK!Asha in a purple dress like her canon counterpart?
IX. What happened to Asha’s mom?
X. Why are wishing stars only allowed to help grant two wishes?
Feel free to skip or ignore any of these if it’s spoiler territory! <3
1. I got the name Antares when I was searching names that mean “star” because I didn’t want to name the star boy, Aster.
2. I’m only going to be keeping “This Wish” and “At All Costs” and “Knowing What I Know Now” so I’m keeping three from the canon, and I’ll be replacing “I’m a Star” with Antares’ song, “Down There”, as well as “This Is The Thanks I Get?!” with the villain duo song “Our Command”.
3. I’m going to start of with writing the story and then I’m going to be working on the animatics/animations afterwards, for the musical numbers, I’m going to start composing some of the numbers on BandLab and then I don’t know about singing them, we’ll see.
4. Not yet unfortunetely, but I’m open to any suggestions!
5. Their names were used while I was researching names that meant their fitting personality which makes it a bit more interesting.
6. She was only 6 when her father died on the wishing tree, so she was taken at the age of 7.
7. You will see her in a purple dress towards the ending or even on the middle, what I could do is to try and create a wardrobe for her in her outfits that she’ll wear throughout the rewrite.
8. She unfortunately gave up Asha after her father’s death when she realised that his nature was the purpose as to why she felt alive, she also felt like that she wasn’t good enough to be a single parent just yet and wishes to do better, the rest is spoilers so I won’t summarise.
9. Wishing stars are only allowed to grant 2 wishes because they represent the past and the future of rebuilding your wish to make them come true, after a star grants all 2 wishes, they start slowly fading into cosmic dust back to the sky. The rest is also spoilers.

Miles!1610
Seems like the type of guy to ask to go karaoke with whether it's platonic or romantic, but still mess it up because he thinks he remembers the lyrics, but then asks you to tag in for him since he thinks you probably know the lyrics better than him.
Miles!1610
Seems like the type of guy to be so nervous after your first kiss, not like he's blushing and smiling like a dumbass, I mean shaking, making random noises, barking even, frothinf at the mouth type ash. (and maybe also threw up in his own mouth after it -)
Miles!42
Seems like the type of guy to be stoic in front of everyone, but once he's alone, he's one of the most nerdiest nerd to ever in the nerdverse, or he's just one of those people that become increasingly louder a goofy once he gets used and close to you.
Miles!42
Most people said he's like a baker and type guy or like a cook, so maybe if, like, your his really close friend or significant other he'll go out of his way to make little treats for you throughout the weeks and months. Every once in a while unless you have a really bad sweet tooth. (he also keeps in mind what you like, sweet, salty, bitter, etc.)
Pavitr!50101B
Is like the type of guy to keep random stuff on hand, like bandaids, pads, hairclips, hairties, achohol wipes, etc. Etc. Like I have no idea where he keeps them but he always is like loaded on random stuff he could also have like small snacks - KitKats, Reeces, actual chocolate bars, small bags of goldfish/Cheeze-itz, maybe sometimes fruit. (His auntie cuts it for him <3)
Pavitr!50101B
Is like the type of person to keep his phone STRAPPED, he probably has like 10293864 books filled with memories, (Polaroids, dried flowers, old snack wrappers, maybe song lyrics from your guys favorite song,) He maybe also takes like scenic pictures of his favorite thing of the day, clouds, the sun, the grass, flowers, animals, etc. He also seems like the type of guy to have little notes written in the memory books, like what shop he went to right next to picture, or place where he went that day (he has a little diary,)
Hobie!138
Seems like the type of guy to play his music really loud to catch people's attention (maybe specifically yours) He likes you complaining about the noise just so he can play it a bit louder, just if he even gets the chance to talk to because he has gotten his interest piqued by your outfit, personality, hair, (if you have any -) maybe even the way you walk. Once he seems like it's enough, he'll be happy enough to turn it down
Hobie!138
Seems like the type to give you his guitar pick, whether it's as a friend or significant other, he likes giving you them because you say that they're pretty, and he gives you so many that you can make a necklace out of them, he might even give you some other things of his like jacket, sticker, gems, trinkets, etc. He finds it as his love language (gift giving -)
Gwen!65
Seems like the type of person to show you how to play the drums as a way of love or trust, whether it's a friend or a significant other. They seem like they would also play them out of emotional outbursts (like seen in the beginning of the movie). Might also give you her drumsticks if they are on the on the literal verge of breaking. ( it doesn't matter to them if you fix them or just keep them just like that)
Gwen!65
Seems like the type of person to show you all of their secret hiding spots when them and their dad into agruments and feels like hiding away, or when they just genuinely get overwhelmed from everyone trying to murder the infamous spiderwoman, they like having you around as a way of comfort, (yk since after Peter got absolutely demolished -)
All original writing rights go to Indigosmug. Do not share onto other apps without permission or credits.
Please suggest more things that I could either write or tell me if I should write posts more like this.

My Thoughts on Hazbin's First Episode
So Viv just posted the first episode of HH a day before the actual show was supposed to release for SOME REASON and I decided to watch it. Here are my thoughts;
The characters are...ok? Charlie and Vaggie are fine, Nipsy is kinda cute and funny, Alastor is also fine, and Angel Dust sucks.
Speaking of Angel - so far his one character trait is that he's extremely horny. And most of his jokes are NOT funny.
The episode got a handful of laughs out of me but was mostly kind of unfunny.
The camera work gets VERY weird at times. The episode constantly cuts to different perspectives and it becomes kind of a headache to look at. It is especially bad at the beginning of the Happy Day in Hell song - where they constantly cut to different perspectives all the time throughout the beginning of the song. It gets better after that but the camera work is still very wonky at times.
The animation is fine - not amazing but it is at least pleasant to look at.
Its REALLY clear now that they are going to make Hevean evil, which is kind of a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. Personally, I thought it would have been more interesting if Hevean wasn't evil like I previously said.
There's kind of a contradiction here; in the opening exposition dump, Charlie says that the reason why Hevean does the exterminations to ensure that Hevean never rises up against them; but then later in the episode when she is pitching her idea to Adam, they go back to the overpopulation in hell problem as the reason why the exterminations are happening - and Charlie says that the hotel is meant to solve the overpopulation problem - when she knows that the real reason why Hevean does the exterminations is that Hevean doesn't want Hell getting more powerful - its weird that the episode just creates a new reason for why the exterminations happen but then goes back to the old one.
Don't care for Adam as a character so far, I don't hate him but I also don't find him that entertaining of an antagonist so far. Also didn't care for his song primarily due to the lyrics.
The episode doesn't really introduce anything - like there's an opening exposition dump but it doesn't introduce you to any of the characters, it just kind of expects you to watch the pilot first even though the pilot isn't canon.
In terms of positives - I liked Happy Day in Hell as a song.
Like I said, most of the characters so far are fine aside from Angel Dust. They aren't amazing but they're fine.
The subplot of Vaggie trying to create a better commercial for the hotel was cute.
So overall the episode was...ok? I didn't really love it and it showed clear signs of issues that would probably plague the show in the future, but overall I didn't hate it. There was some enjoyment I got out of it but still not great or even that good. Probably a 5-6/10 though I'm kinda leaning more towards a 6/10. It's just average to me.

Promo Video for "Yūyami no Uta"
The official twitter account of the Sengoku Youko anime adaptation has shared a brief message video of KEIKO and Yuki Kajiura promoting their collaborative single "夕闇のうた/Yūyami no Uta" which serves as the appointed ending theme of the first arc "世直し姉弟編/Yonaoshi Kyodai-hen" (World Reform Siblings Arc).
◆Ending theme Vocals: KEIKO "Yūyami no Uta" Lyrics, composition, arrangement: Yuki Kajiura ✅Released on January 24th The TV size is already available in digital format
Keiko is very excited to work together with Yuki Kajiura for her very first anime tie-in as solo artist. When looking at the music sheets during the recording session, Keiko noticed that the phrase 大地/Daichi (Earth) was a recurring theme throughout the lyrics. She wonders if Yuki Kajiura was trying to convey the "energy of the earth" through the song to reflect the overarching themes of the anime. Yuki Kajiura says that the anime feels surprisingly grounded despite its fantastical story. She appreciates the earthy component which just makes it a very grounded tale and she thinks that Keiko's voice is a perfect match for this kind of story since it is also very earthy and profound as if the weight of every character's lifetime (of all the hardships and joys) was carried across it. There is a very steadfast quality to her voice, when you listen to the song you feel a sense of security like you are standing firmly on the ground
Hopefully next week we'll get some details on tokutens/release events/etc. I finally need to make all of my orders. So far I've only ordered a copy of the regular edition and CD+BD edition on amazon.co.jp to receive a mega jacket.

on the kick of movies, i ALSO forgot how good Hunchback of Notre Dame is (analysis ahead btw)
yes, it's a Disney movie (that's why we pirate it lads) so it won't have the same conformation to the novel that another corporation MIGHT have done (still highly doubtful) but it's still so good and holds up so well???
I prefer the musical's nuance when it comes to Frollo, but in the Disney movie he doesn't really need a reason to be "evil" other than just power-hungriness, racism and being a predator. I find it incredibly interesting how they divided the two aspects of his character into Frollo (Judge Version) and the Archdeacon, because when you know the background of his character you understand that complexity even when it's absent from the movie. Also I'm a SLUT for "Hellfire," because not only is the animation sequence DELICIOUS ASF, and the music and lyrics ASTOUNDING, but the overlaying Latin that just contradicts his convictions is SO good, as well as the predatory ideas he's grappling with, and his justification of them through religion and how he's "purer than the common, vulgar, weak, licentious," people of Paris. Even in the cut-and-dry Disney version, he's still a fairly layered character.
I also find it refreshing that Quasimodo's jealousy of Phoebus doesn't cause him to try and tear him down or hurt him; no, he doesn't love Phoebus, especially at first when he thinks he's chasing Esmeralda to hurt or arrest her, but he holds no grudge against him because it's unnecessary. I can't tell if I just got used to other bad movie jealousy plotlines, but it's nice to see that Quasimodo isn't petty as hell just because he's jealous of Phoebus.
Speaking of Phoebus, what a chad
Of course, the score for the movie is brilliant (excluding a guy like you, I'm sorry but i fucking hate it) and the repeating themes of different characters make it feel more like a live theater musical than some of Disney's other musical works. Frollo's "Kyrie Eleison," theme (which is so fucking funny to me by the way, having the Latin/Greek phrase of "Lord have mercy," be Frollo's theme, who doesn't have mercy whatsoever and really just reflects his last moments) is SO so scrummy, I eat that shit up every damn time.
The animation sequences are fairly good throughout the movie, but I find them ESPECIALLY amazing for particular songs like "Hellfire," "Out There," "And He Shall Smite the Wicked (Score)," and "Sanctuary (Score)." The movements are VERY smooth and flow well, and the usage of color in "God Help the Outcasts," is STUNNING.
All in all, I still really enjoy this movie after a long time of not seeing it, and just really enjoy the themes and general collective story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame

Top 10 Sofia the First Songs
Fuck it, I know most of you dont give a shit about Sofia the First but this show has been a sheer delight for me so y'all gonna sit down, shut up and appreciate some good music. The music in this show is much like the music in Friendship is Magic. They both went way too hard than they needed to.
Here's the top 10 best songs in Sofia the First
10. King Cedric the Great
youtube
Villain songs are always fun and its even better when the villain singing it is about as dangerous as a rubber duck. Cedric is the true example of how to write a sympathetic villain. He's a hapless sorceror who's actually really good at magic but his anxiety combined with everyone (except Sofia and his niece Calista) viewing him as some kind of loser are the reason why he wants to take over the kingdom cos he thinks that's the only way he can get respect. As this song illustrates how he wants Sofia's amulet so he can use its powers, but as the episode goes on, he finds out he doesnt really have it in him to be truly evil for reasons I won't go into, cos the episode this song's from is SO good. Its called Cedric's Apprentice if anyone wants to look it up.
As for the song itself, its a homage to classic Disney villain songs but Cedric's plan is so childishly over the top its hard to take him seriously, which is the song's intention. Its a great juxtaposition. Jess Harnell's singing is just the ham on top of these cheese sandwich.
He really has a knack for playing characters that are totally wacko
9. Wendell's Way
youtube
Speaking of sorcerors, here's another villain: a kid named Wendell. A spoilt brat who stole all the flying horses of Enchancia for his birthday. He's like if Horrid Henry went to that terf wizard school. The song itself has a very boisterious energy, amplified by the hard rock drums and the lute/guitar solo?? which makes it all the more satisfying when Sofia, Amber and James get the upper hand in the end and Wendell's mother comes out of nowhere to ground him, its fucking great. Its nice to see a bully character actually stay a bully and not get force-redeemed by the writers so they can pull the 'everyone deserves a second chance' message , when in actuality, no, some people really are that mean and you're not obligated to give a shit about a bully. Wendell is, in retrospect, a breath of fresh air as the song doesnt pull some sad backstory out of the aether to make you feel sorry for this kid. No, he's just that selfish.
Also the lyric: 'That is a promise, but also a threat' is fucking great.
Its a simple song but a bop nonetheless.
8. Make Some Noise
youtube
Sometimes a song is good when its just plain fun. And this song definitely applies. In the episode this is from, Sofia befriends a bunch of trolls living under the castle that everyone warns her are dangerous and violent and here... theyre actually super chill. The fact that Sofia instantly gets into the groove is delightful and again showcases how compassionate she is.
The song itself has a fun, jazzy melody with the trolls using thier equivalents of piano, trumpets and of course their clubs. It's such a feel good song, almost like the voice actors just got up from the chairs and just danced like they dont give a shit and the directors just hit record. It really feels like a song you would hear at a party. Even the repeated animation doesnt bother me.
7. A Princess True
youtube
One of this show's biggest weakness is portraying people from different cultures cos its clear the show is made by mostly white people who have a limited understanding of non-white cultures and can easily fall into racist stereotypes without realising it. Its not by any means racist as the show features plenty of non white side characters (Khaled, Kashmir, Jun, Jin and Kari) that the main cast are on friendly terms with. But here, this song is relatively tame as this song is all about Sofia, a white girl, believing in Lani, a Hawaiian girl, as her actions throughout the episode are proof she's the real deal.
In the episode, Princess Leilani lost her family heirloom the Emerald Key into the sea after fighting an evil witch, where it gets washed up in Enchancia so Leilani goes to the castle to get the key back, cos its a key to help her parents find their way home from the sea. However, the witch Mamanu disguises herself as Leilani as well so she can trick the Enchancian royal family into giving her the Key. So Roland puts both Lanis to the test but the test involves the Lanis to act like THEIR cultural view of royalty. Sofia notices one of the Lanis aces it and the other competely fails at it and does something different instead. So Sofia thinks the latter is the real princess and this song is her showing her full support and belief that Lani is the true princess.
Its a very sweet song to a very meaty episode which is why I had to explain in full detail. Its not perfect but the song really encapsulates Sofia's and the show's earnestness towards non-white characters and I appreciate that. It helps the creator is Jewish and went on to make a show all about Latina culture and did actual research on it. So this song, and the episode itself is a good, albeit rocky start.
Even if they fucked it up with giving Lani powers in the next episode she appeared in, goddammnit why the magical native stereotype we were so close!!!!!
6. Me and My Mom
youtube
Creator Craig Gerber has stated many times that one of Sofia the First's core themes is teaching kids about blended families and how to adapt after getting new parents and step siblings in your life (since he was a child of divorce himself and had to adapt to having a new father and siblings). This song is about Sofia's struggles to adapt now that she has to share her mother with Amber and James. You really feel sorry for Sofia cos she's so used to having her mother being the only family she has and of course, is easily attached to her.
Its a very soft, heartfelt song that resonates with a lot of kids that are in Sofia's position. I bet they felt very seen by this episode.
5. Improvise
youtube
In the episode, Amber wants to join in Sofia's girl scout group but in typical Amber fashion, she brought nothing but dresses and jewellry to an outdoor trip and forgot to pack a tent. So Sofia and her friends teach her how to improvise via musical number. A cute lesson about being resourceful and a great example of Amber becoming a more versatile character as she grows to love the outdoors.
There's a very jovial, motivational energy to the song that really makes it stand out from the usual pep-talk songs in this show. What else can I say? Its a highlight of Amber's character development and a fun little song to boot. Whats not to love?
4. Two By Two
youtube
Amber's relationship with her sister Sofia is always expanded upon in the show but her relationship with brother James is a lot less so since Amber and James sparsely interact beyond typical sibling teasing. So its nice this episode, and this song helps establish how much Amber actually cares about her twin brother.
In the episode, Amber accidentally turns James into a toddler thanks to a botched magic spell cos Amber didnt want to share her birthday but as her and Sofia run around trying to find baby James. Sofia suggests to Amber to sing the twin song that James and Amber used to sing all the time when they were little. (which is just adorable)
I love how Amber starts the song in a very deadpan, almost annoyed tone until the second verse hits and slowly her singing becomes more melancholy and emotional, like the fact that her twin being lost is just now hitting her. Especially since she spent the whole episode wishing to have a birthday to herself for once, not realising that she's taking away James' birthday and thus losing him too. That small bit of her looking at the pocket watch with her and James' portrait it, finally finding baby James behind the throne, picking him up and hugging him and them finishing the song together
STOP, MY FUCKING HEART CANT TAKE THE AMOUNT OF CUTE
Its so nice to see a sibling relationship that's actually wholesome.
3. Dare to Risk It All
youtube
One of Amber's biggest flaws is her envy and her getting over being an jealous bitch to her little sister is a lesson that Amber has always had to learn in the show's earlier seasons. And while she has made some development, this is the episode where Amber makes the most change. And this song is emblematic of that.
Dare To Risk It All has Rapunzel appear to teach Amber that you have to put other's needs before your own to earn forgiveness, to prove you can change, which is a lesson not a lot of kids shows teach nowadays cos most shows like Steven Universe and even MLP put the pressure on the victim to forgive their bullies or let them off easy (especially if they're family) but in this episode, Sofia is rightfully angry at Amber for stealing her amulet and isnt afraid to snap at her for it the whole episode so Amber throughout this song (and the episode) realising how much Sofia means to her and it puts the pressure on Amber to be a better person and a better sister.
Its one of the few good Disney Princess songs the show has. The Disney Princess aspect of the show is honestly its biggest crutch cos Sofia always has a good role model with her mother and her dad to some extent and the princesses havent exactly had the best trakc record for teaching good lessons to Sofia since they either state the obvious or gaslight her. So its nice to see the princesses teach someone else for a change. And its Rapunzel, the best Disney princess.
Also bonus points for having a good song about earning forgiveness whilst flying dragons.
2. Princess Things
youtube
Sofia wants to do flying horse-racing even though mostly boys at her school do that sport and both Amber and Sofia's rival Prince Hugo are discouraging her from trying out the sport. Its your typical girl empowerment message. While the pilot episode established the whole premise, this episode (Just One of the Princes) and this song establishes Sofia's character: a pro-active princess who doesnt fall for anyone's bullshit, which is perfect for a moral center protagonist.
I love how Sofia's expression throughout the song goes from confused to smiling like she's internally screaming. And her verses are basically 'screw you guys i do whatever the fuck i want.' So not only did everyone waste their time singing to convince Sofia but in fact made her even MORE CONVINCED to try out the flying horse derby. Good job, guys.
Aside from that, the song itself is a bop. The repeated chorus really emphasises the peer pressure Sofia is going through. Second episode of the series and they're already making a hit.
1. All You Need
youtube
In the episode, Sofia meets Vivian, a princess who's a great artist and musician but is painfully shy and thus everyone is spreading rumours around her. Even Sofia was a bit apprehensive but she pushes through it to meet Vivian at her house whilst they work on their school project and this delightful song just pops up.
I love how it starts with Vivian nervously playing her lute and Sofia starts singing, whilst helping her IN SONG start brainstorming their ideas for a dream castle. Then after Sofia's verse is done: ending with the lyric, Ill paint all the towers blue, now the rest is up to you, Vivian immediately jumps and enthusiastically suggest her own ideas. The music even matches the tone of the characters. When it starts, its only Vivian's lute and a backing track but as soon as the bridge comes, the music swells when Sofia's singing motivates Vivian and its just chef kiss.
This song, as well as the episode this was from, made me really like Vivian as a side character and I always loved her interactions with Sofia whenever she made an appearance. I like how she retained her newfound confidence into later seasons, where she becomes just as pro-active as Sofia.
This song, to me, is what Sofia the First is all about. A girl who's just the sunniest child, befriending the shy kid in her class and having the most adorable musical number. Are there songs with better lyrics and theming? Absolutely. But the sheer serotonin levels this song has, as well as encapsulating the main character's compassion for others, is why this is the best song of the show
Thank you for coming to my TED talk about a bluebell princess

Dndads Teen Headcanons
(It got kinda outta hand, and these aren’t even the angst ones…)
Hermie curls their hair and Taylor straightens his (but because of the adventures neither of them have been able to do it so they’re slowly reverting back to their original state)
Hermie uses they/them pronouns when not in a roll and Dood uses they/it
Normal and Hero have watched Adult Swim shows from a really young age (Lark, Sparrow, and Rebecca either didn’t care enough to turn off Cartoon Network, or just didn’t realize)
Linc and Hermie were PBS kids
Taylor is always playing games on his Chromebook at school (coolmathgames rules)
Taylor has a ton of pins on his jacket and hat
Scary has a TON of birthmarks, freckles, moles all over her body. It’s gorgeous
Dood‘s Teen body rotates between four outfits that all seem too large and slightly too old for it… (it’s Hildy, Robert, Meryl, and Stud’s outfits) (even if It never technically met Meryl)
FUNFACT: none of the Teens have a nuclear family
Hero’s first language is Spanish (Lark and Sparrow decided that forcing her to go through an almost entirely English-speaking school without knowing English would help “toughen her up”)
All of the Oak’s are fluent in Spanish and English
Scary is afraid of going under tunnels (when she was Terri she’d close her eyes and squeeze someone’s hand)
Linc types like an old man but can game really really well
Hermie does cosplays and posts them on the future equivalent to TikTok
Everytime they go to a mall of something Normal tries reallllly hard to convince them to all squeeze into a Photo Booth (it has not happened yet)
Hermie loves Starkid
Taylor really likes FNAF
Scary’s favorite season is winter
Linc’s favorite is spring (even though soccer season is autumn)
Normal likes all of the seasons (he takes after his grandpa!!)
Dood loves everything (all the seasons), though they absolutely despise the mosquitos and gnats…
Taylor’s favorite season is probably summer
Scary was diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age (not autism though), but when she started being Scary she tried to stop taking her medication (she started taking it again)
Taylor used to LOVE dinosaurs. He had every Jurassic Park movie, the book, everything. He still has the anime and the original downloaded for bad days
Scary is tall without shoes (only shorter than Linc and about the same as Hermie) but she wears platforms to make herself taller (queen <3)
Hermie has a younger brother and a younger sister (like, 6 years old) who were not born by Scam and Jodie, and Hermie has no idea where they’re from
Hermie’s two favorite people are their siblings (they would do anything for them)
All the Teens but Dood and Linc had Amino at some point </3 (but for completely different fandoms/communities)
The only class Normal has consistently had an A/100 in has been GYM
Normal, Scary, and Linc are very very athletic
Hermie is more athletic than people would think they are (you run a LOT in theater, and singing takes a ton of energy)
Normal constantly plays the Zip Game throughout their travels (everytime you see a horse you yell zip’ and keep track of how many horses you’ve called, everytime you see a cemetery you yell ‘cemetery’ and everyone else loses their horses)
Normal and Hermie know a ton of car games (though Hermie wouldn’t admit it) because of looong car rides with their sibling/s
Hermie works at a Haunted Attraction during Autumn
Hermie is freakishly worried about their siblings after coming home and not finding their parents (has not mentioned it to anyone though…)
Scary uses her notes app for everything (song lyrics, poems, reminders, etc.)
Dood is the shortest out of them all, then Taylor
Taylor has a ton of stickers on his cane (anime, survival, etc.)
They’re all autistic and queer <3
Scary has a vent notebook and a lyric notebook
Linc doesn’t really get cold, which is why he always wears shorts and tanktops
Scary only eats the Oreos with the orange filling
Taylor either sleeps with a TON of blankets or with only a sheet. No in between

Hewwo fellow Haruka apologist/stan :)
I wanna ask the expert themself, what do you think about the headcanon that Haruka's parents (or his mom at least) is into taxidermy? There's a shit ton of taxidermy in his second t2, but also in a translation of AKAA lyrics (a more 'accurate' one, rather than the eng sub that's provided) instead of "I will keep killing to be a good boy" it's "Rather than taking something away, it's better to give". What if Haruka was killing animals to 'help' his mother with taxidermy? In his own sick and twisted way of getting her attention. And, let's not forget the famous scene where he's standing on top of the chair surrounded by the dead animal corpses, he's says "Mommy, look, aren't I amazing?". Sick, yeah. But what if he's presenting his 'gifts' to his mother, who's into taxidermy?
And the orange/amber liquid that everyone thinks is honey in reference to Muu? Someone in the comments said it could be formaldehyde, which is used for taxidermy. Just another thing that caught my attention
I thought about this way too much, but it's a just silly lil hc of mine
Hi hello!! Thank you for sending me this ask (and so sorry I replied so late!) I'm always happy to meet & discuss with fellow Haruka enjoyers :3c
I completely agree with that headcanon (in fact I don't think the orange liquid in AKAA resembles honey at all except for the color--the consistency seems closer to that of formaldehyde, and it makes more sense with the sequence of events that it'd be formaldehyde), I think Haruka's mom was a taxidermist or at least into something biology related, hobbyist or professional, so Haruka was exposed to a lot of things involving animals and taxidermy throughout his life. I assumed this is at least part of the reason why he dislikes animals--they remind him of his mom, when he was still somewhat loved by her, I imagine she'd tell or show him some details of her work/hobby, so he learned a lot about animals & taxidermy from her.
If I'm being honest, when I first watched AKAA it didn't occur to me at all that Haruka killed the animals, I interpreted that as a metaphor or symbolism (but I won't talk about that here because it'll be too long and it involves Weakness haha), so seeing most of the fandom interpret it literally (I guess because of his VD but I didn't take the VD at face value either) surprised me and I spent a while thinking of why Haruka would do something like that, and the perspective you offered really makes sense!! In my interpretation wouldn't call it sick or twisted as much as it is Haruka "accepting" that he is what his mom painted him to be, in his mind--someone whose only talent is bringing bad things, so he took to killing the animals in an attempt to utilize his "evil self's only ability" to do something his mom would hopefully approve of. It kinda reminds me of Tendou Satori from Haikyuu, who embraced the label "guess monster" because he was so used to being treated as a monster, so he embraced that he's weird and unlikable in a way that can make him still a good player but also true to himself. (I hope I remember correctly I haven't watched Haikyuu in like 2 years but Tendou is very dear to me) Except in Haruka's case it is way more fucked up lol.
Also gotta thank whoever retranslated AKAA more accurately--I noticed this theme with the innocent prisoners being painted in a purposefully bad light in T2 so we could vote them guilty, and the other way around as well, the guilty from T1 being painted as miserable and actually not that bad, yk. There's really nothing in MILGRAM that should be taken at face value imo.
And worry not I also thought about this an unimaginable amount, it's been on my mind the whole week actually, but I'm trying to articulate my thoughts into a coherent post lfhksdsl

Diary of a Strange Land
I’ve been rereading Ikoku Nikki again, an ongoing manga series written by Yamashita Tomoko (who you may perhaps know as the original writer of recent anime adaptation of the supernatural BL series The Night Beyond The Tricornered Window). It’s one of my favourite manga, largely due to the art and very considered, introspective writing, but also because I just empathise with one of the two protagonists a lot.
Tumblr media
Some thematic if not literal spoilers will follow.
One of the two protagonists, 35 year old novelist Makio Koudai is wonderfully written; she’s awkward, somewhere on the neurodiverse spectrum, struggles to be around people and prefers solitude; she forgets things, hates phonecalls, struggles to clean up after herself; and she has a tendency to monologue on deep dives into the meaning of words, the uniqueness of everyone’s own feelings, and how it’s okay to hate your family. Much of the plot is her learning to live with her 15-year-old recently orphaned niece, Asa, who she adopts at the start of the series.
Tumblr media
Generally though... she’s a rare kind of protagonist that I don’t really see written much, and is also directly relatable for basically everything I wrote above. I see myself in Makio a lot. I also think it’s easy to read her as trans; the author’s background in creating Boys’ Love manga means she tends to draw women with quite androgynous-to-masculine face shapes, and some imagery and subtext has cropped up so far through the series that can be read as supporting Makio as trans. She has at least one close nonbinary friend who she can joke about their junk with; she quickly clocks a supporting character as a teenage lesbian struggling with her identity; childhood flashbacks of Makio’s terrible relationship with her sister often show her in masculine clothing with short hair. It’s not textual but it’s an easy read for me.
Tumblr media
As both an author and a neurotic person who largely overthinks things and lives inside her own head, Makio does display a lot of emotional intelligence throughout the series; but it’s generally a very analytical display of it that I feel an affinity with. She struggles with direct emotional outbursts, and sometimes fails to read how others feel until it’s said out loud; she explicitly says she struggles guessing people’s thoughts and emotions. But when able to take a step back and describe an emotion or situation in a more literate way, she expresses a real understanding of the nuances of a lot of difficult emotions, like waxing lyrical on the expression of grief when her niece Asa is thinking about her recently deceased parents, by discussing the use of tense in both english and japanese:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makio’s a good protagonist to co-centre the story around; Ikoku Nikki deals with the obvious themes of grief that come from having an orphaned character, but keeps going into some other less familiar areas. Whether your parents love you; how and when it’s acceptable to be angry; being unable to relate to others’ feelings; breaking up with a partner because they feel too perfect and you feel undeserving of love; the struggle and loneliness of writing & creating art. Makio often takes a teaching role in chapters about these topics, conveying wordy thoughts to Asa as the latter struggles through processing grief & growing up through school. Makio’s own past is told through often-abstract flashbacks rather than spelled out, but it’s clear from how she acts in the present day that she’s developed a sort of detached, almost disassociative maturity around being a person, and her advice to Asa usually comes across as pained sympathy instead of lecturing. Coupled with a small cast of similarly well-rounded supporting characters and their own internal and external emotional dialogues, Ikoku Nikki both starts strongly and grows over its chapters to be a really thoughtful story about sets of complex emotions. In case you can’t tell from me writing a long post about it, I really recommend it, as a relatively uncommon example of manga with a well-fleshed-out adult cast dealing with the low, relatable stakes of trying to be happy.

What do you think about song Bear and the Maiden Fair? While the bear is described as brown and black with hairs while the maid described as honey in her hair and pure. Many think that song is about Hound and Sansa because he saved her when other knights couldn't but the bear in song didn't seems to saver as it tastes the honey of maid when she was shrieking and kicking. Seems like forced touching just like Hound forcing on Sansa. Tyrion, Penny and Jorah had played the characters in Meereen.
I also received this ask about the song:
Tumblr media
(These are so old, neither of you may be around anymore, but I finally typed up some thoughts on this. Sorry for how belated this is! 😬)
I would assume that the reason so many relationships have a connection to the song is that Martin has an interest in developing relationships between extremes. At one point or another, he’s formed a relationship between youth/age, brother/enemy, beauty/ugliness, life/death, love/hate and I totally forgot the big one and had to circle back to add: ice and fire! Lmao). “Beauty and the Beast” is based on the interest in the juxtaposition of extremes, The Bear and the Maiden Fair offers something similar, so it makes sense to me that he repeatedly utilizes it.
The placement of extremes in relation to each other is an aesthetic thing some find compelling (created via The Hound’s size and scars against Sansa’s remarkable beauty and youth, Dany’s size, eye and hair color contrasted with Drogo or Jorah’s…), but more importantly, a thematic thing. We see the contrast vividly with Brienne and Jaime as well as Sansa and the Hound. Their appearance is at odds, of course, but what really matters are how their values are contrasted. Sansa’s beliefs and her nature are entirely opposed to the Hound’s, and if you think of Jorah as the knight exiled for being a slaver and the shame of his house helping the woman who attempts to end slavery (until she needs it) and restore her house…well, you get a version of that there too.
Being that Martin has stated he played with the Beauty and the Beast angle with Sansa and the Hound, but was surprised people shipped it, we should accept that Martin uses tropes/references for different purposes, not necessarily to signal an endgame romance or mutual interest even if that is the initial thought by the reader. Martin likes the inside/outside view of things, likes to examine ideas from multiple perspectives, and a character occupying different roles throughout the story allows him to extract a lot of meaning. Fans like to focus on how Sansa is wrong about a certain character, but the main intent behind all of this is the author challenging his reader when he forces us to examine and re-examine who characters are and what he is saying with them. The lyrics of the song twists our perception of things, so, even if I reject how it’s often applied, I agree that the concept behind the song is being discussed in these relationships.
We see the same beast/knight ideas with the Hound and Sansa as with Jorah and Dany. Both Dany and Sansa have these guys who are associated with specific animals (bear, hound), who function as protectors at some point even though they also betray them. Jorah’s betrayal is labeled as such in the book, but the Hound going from rescuing Sansa to assaulting her is a betrayal as well. Both men develop loyalty to the girls, they offer some protection, both have a sexual interest in the girls and both sexually harass them (Jorah kisses Dany without permission, the Hound assaults Sansa). I suppose Sansa and the Hound fit a little better with parts of the song because the girl is initially frightened by the bear while Jorah presents quite differently despite all the bear references. The bear-ish description of Jorah isn’t just the bear sigil, we also get all the hair stuff:
"I shall wish to speak with Ser Jorah before the night is done," her brother said. Dany found herself looking at the knight curiously. He was an older man, past forty and balding, but still strong and fit. Instead of silks and cottons, he wore wool and leather. His tunic was a dark green, embroidered with the likeness of a black bear standing on two legs. (AGOT, Daenerys I)
“He had a neck and shoulders like a bull, and coarse black hair covered his arms and chest so thickly that there was none left for his head.” (AGOT, Daenerys III)
and of course, he is referenced as a bear pretty often:
“Ser Jorah, her gruff old bear” (ADWD, Daenerys VI) and he’s referred to as her “bear knight” (ADWD, Daenerys III) and “My bear, she thought, my old sweet bear” (ADWD, Daenerys X).
I selected those from ADWD because to me, that’s when it for sure was deliberately connecting back to the song as Tyrion puts Jorah in the role of the bear:
"That one is part of our show. The bear and the maiden fair. Jorah is the bear, Penny is the maiden, I am the brave knight who rescues her. I dance about and hit him in the balls. Very funny." (ADWD, Tyrion X)
So, we begin the story knowing Jorah is a bear (Mormont), that he’s described as bear/beast, called a bear/bear knight, and then eventually, he’s playacting the bear from the song. Interestingly, the "knight" who fights the bear is acted by someone Martin has called a villain. I could never argue that the author isn’t being intentionally self-referential, he clearly is. However, we do have the fact that Jorah betrayed/molested Dany, and this:
Jorah Mormont's face was dark with anger, but he answered. "To serve her. Defend her. Die for her, if need be."
That made the widow laugh. "You want to rescue her, is that the way of it? From more enemies than I can name, with swords beyond count … this is what you'd have the poor widow believe? That you are a true and chivalrous Westerosi knight crossing half the world to come to the aid of this … well, she is no maiden, though she may still be fair." (ADWD, Tyrion VII)
I’m uncomfortable with the emphasis placed on virginity in the books and hate to use that (or beauty) as a determining factor in which couple the song is “really” about, but we have this line which I see as direct guidance from Martin about interpreting the Dany and Jorah relationship as a straight up version of The Bear and the Maiden Fair. The way it’s presented and challenged indicates that while in a particular dynamic or in a specific scene a character fulfills a certain role, that isn’t necessarily their overall role. To me, looking at the story as a whole, Brienne’s role is true knight, more so than maiden. Just as the idea that Dany is the maiden/damsel is present in her interactions with Jorah, but that isn’t her role in the story as a whole, no more than Jorah is the true knight. (He’s a slaver ffs).
As for the Jaime and Brienne of it, Jaime protecting Breinne from a bear slots him into the knight role, but as they struggle over who is fighting the bear, there’s a play on who is in the knight role and who is in the “maiden” role. Also, Brienne is mockingly called beauty and Jaime is described as a beast, and while those characters are being cruel to Brienne, to the reader, we know Jaime has done horrible things (attempted kid killing = monstrous), and we know Brienne is the purist soul (goodness=beauty), so taking a step away from the superficial, we are getting a layered play on the trope. And yes, Brienne is a virgin and Jaime a knight, we can leave it there, but Brienne is a knight in the truest sense and Jaime is beautiful, so I think the best way to look at this question of who this song is “about” is to accept that the trope being discussed is getting a rotisserie chicken treatment. We’re allowed to see it from every juicy angle, not limited to one. After all, Jorah is a knight and a bear.
Of course, as I already said, since the author likes to reference things without implementing them the way people expect, this doesn’t necessarily mean romantic endgame, but saying that doesn’t mean I’m dismissing Braime because I do think Martin wrote in the romantic stuff deliberately. The whole knights/fools etc is at play in that scene too:
"What are you doing here?"
"Something stupid. Get behind me." He circled toward her, putting himself between Brienne and the bear. (ASOS, Jaime VI)
Brienne is referenced as the maid in this scene, but later she reads like a knight on a quest to save the fair maiden --Sansa. We even get some “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” singing there. If they ever meet, I would expect some beauty/beast discussion to crop up just as part of this continuing conversation about roles, part of the characters revolving through them to allow the author to thoroughly analyze the ideas and evolve what fairytales are/say. In their pairing, Brienne would be the knight to Sansa’s maiden to allow for Martin to contrast Brienne with all of our failed knights.
We get a lot of duality with these characters/their roles which means we can ask, who is the knight/who is the bear and come up with many, many answers. All of them true in a certain light, only to then turn them on their head. Sometimes, a failed knight rises to the occasion, and sometimes the maiden saves the knight, and sometimes, the knights are evil, sometimes the knight isn’t a true knight. Sometimes salvation comes from where you least expect it, and sometimes, rescuers are also a threat. The roles are there, but Martin is playing with them, challenging them, so the multiple ways we can read these characters and dynamics is very much intentional. All of that being said, it’s undeniable that there is one maiden for whom the song is particularly relevant.
Sansa fits the maiden role in a much more overarching way than our other contenders. Not only because she’s a virgin, not simply because of her interest in romance or because so much of her story has been driven by various people’s sexual/political interest in her/marrying her, but because she represents certain attributes, foremost of them, mercy. We get in trouble when talking about how beautiful she is, but it can’t be disregarded because she represents hope, innocence, compassion, peace. Martin made her beautiful not just as a physical thing, rather, because she is representative of ideas; she is the beauty of certain ideals.
The Hound who laughs at killing children is moved to protect her, can’t follow through on his own desire to harm her. Dontos tells her,
"A knight?" Joffrey had decreed that he was to be a knight no longer, only a fool, lower even than Moon Boy. "I prayed to the gods for a knight to come save me," she said. "I prayed and prayed. Why would they send me a drunken old fool?"
"I deserve that, though . . . I know it's queer, but . . . all those years I was a knight, I was truly a fool, and now that I am a fool I think . . . I think I may find it in me to be a knight again, sweet lady. And all because of you . . . your grace, your courage. You saved me, not only from Joffrey, but from myself." (ACOK, Sansa II)
Personification is a thing and even though she is a multidimensional character, I think the way Martin has written Sansa makes it clear that he is calling back to old archetypes here which is why, when you hear “maiden fair,” Sansa is the referenced character in an overarching way, not just in a specific dynamic, not just in a specific chapter or one book, but in the series, this is who she is in a way that no other character is.
Her role in the story is notably the tropey damsel in distress/princess in the tower (in a way that Dany and Brienne are not), and even with the revision of what that means by a modern author, even with the idea growing and evolving into something new, with the girl having far more agency and inner life than in older stories, it’s so clear this is who she is that even her haters know it. They call her a princess in a tower to show their disdain, but all they’re doing is admitting that even they recognize who she is in the story.
And of course, there is the fact that Sansa is referred to as a fair maiden, even in her TWOW chapter, that her beauty is often remarked upon, and that she has some parallels with Persephone which seems pertinent due to the Beauty and the Beast/Hades and Persephone/Death and the Maiden connection:
Petyr cut a pomegranate in two with his dagger, offering half to Sansa. "You should try and eat, my lady."
"Thank you, my lord." Pomegranate seeds were so messy; Sansa chose a pear instead, and took a small delicate bite. It was very ripe. The juice ran down her chin. (ASOS,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LF is her uncle (by marriage), he spirits her away from KL and is clearly intent on making her his, and as we know, he’s orchestrated destruction for her family/the realm, so he fits in here as a kind of Hades (death) to Sansa’s maiden which is relevant considering how loosely related death and the maiden is to the beauty and the beast idea.
However, the thing that feels the most like the author directing us to a specific conclusion must be reading her first chapter in ASOS which might as well be called “the Bear and the Maiden Fair chapter” because we finally get the lyrics to the song, and it’s interspersed into a scenario that is kinda telling a similar story. Sansa wants a beautiful knight (Loras), but is offered a stranger instead (Willas). We’ve also just read a speedrun through all the fake knights/bears/suitors/“love interests” Sansa (or fans) have selected for her:
Sansa wondered if Joffrey knew of this supper. For all she knew, it might be his doing. That thought made her fearful. If Joff was behind the invitation, he would have some cruel jape planned to shame her in the older girl's eyes. Would he command his Kingsguard to strip her naked once again? The last time he had done that his uncle Tyrion had stopped him, but the Imp could not save her now.
No one can save me but my Florian. Ser Dontos had promised he would help her escape, but not until the night of Joffrey's wedding. The plans had been well laid, her dear devoted knight-turned-fool assured her; there was nothing to do until then but endure, and count the days.
[…]
Even so, she must accept. She was nothing now, the discarded daughter of a traitor and disgraced sister of a rebel lord. She could scarcely refuse Joffrey's queen-to-be.
I wish the Hound were here. The night of the battle, Sandor Clegane had come to her chambers to take her from the city, but Sansa had refused. Sometimes she lay awake at night, wondering if she'd been wise. She had his stained white cloak hidden in a cedar chest beneath her summer silks. She could not say why she'd kept it. (ASOS, Sansa I)
So, we have the prince who turned out to be a monster (Joffrey), the guy everyone thinks of as a monster who protects her (Tyrion), a knight who she saved but sexually harasses her (Dontos), a man who threatens her but ended up saving her only to then turn around and be a threat himself (The Hound). See what I mean about multiple roles? My gosh, it’s almost like the author has intentionally been writing variations of the song into Sansa’s story all along, or even, dare I say it, he's written Sansa’s story into a song, only, none of these match up perfectly, so we are still waiting for the true(est) incarnation of this song to manifest into her story.
Or, all of that shorter:
"I CALLED FOR A KNIGHT, BUT YOU'RE A BEAR! (ASOS, Sansa I)
"I prayed to the gods for a knight to come save me," she said. "I prayed and prayed. Why would they send me a drunken old fool?" (ACOK, Sansa II)
So, if Sansa is the maiden of the song, the maiden fair of A Song of Ice and Fire, who is the bear, who’s the knight? More importantly, where is this poor girl’s hero?
Y’all, this is getting ridiculously long. Now, I’ve never not done something for a silly reason like not wanting to appear ridiculous, but I can’t post seven thousand words all at once. tumblr staff will deactivate my account to save me from myself! I will get to Jon and the Jonsa of it all in part two.

Alrighty I’ve finally finished season 5
I hate how obvious it is they’re trying to tone the show down completely to even lower audience demographic. The first 3 seasons were for kids but there was actual peril and darker concepts and stuff that were much more interesting damn you Nickelodeon and your desperate attempt to keep the most squeaky clean image ever not only does it not work it’s costing stories and plot
I REFUSE to believe Stella would be a bad fashion designer with how much she loves fashion (I know it was a joke in s1 too but I still refuse). Plus, avant-garde is a thing and she would serve
That boat that was sent from Andros was def made exclusively for the winx there is NO WAY that style exists anywhere else on that planet for land related peoples with all of its hard lines and industrial style architecture with its limited color palettes
The nautical themed outfits are cute but Bloom’s looks SO overdone to me and Stella,, my sweet babygorl,, wtf did you do to your own fit?? Aisha’s poodle puff braid ftw also
Harmonix was totally useless BUT I still like the flower petal aesthetic vibe (even tho only Flora is a nature floral lady) and some of the color combos. Bloom in pink is still a no tho, which is something I mainly hate because of how obvious it is they started integrating it into her more to make her more marketable for toy lines and shit
Where did the gems that were already on the starfish thing for sirenix come from?
The amount of times the girls all gasp or ooo or ahh and go like “wow!” “so cool!” “amazing!”,, I will kill I feel like I’m watching a 1990s or early 2000s anime dub I hate it I hate it I hate it
Icy would NOT simp like this (shoutout to her leaving Valtor when he got ugly and telling him that’s why she’s leaving him)
The relationship drama was just as stupid and hamfisted as I thought it was from an outside skim of the season based off of secondhand knowledge ie posts and gifs. Also, Krystal did nothing wrong, she’s just autistic and Helia would NOT introduce Flora as anything other than the love of his life.
Timmy and Tecna also have one of the healthiest relationships why tf is everyone trying to give them advice like this they’ve all been dating for YEARS why are all of y’all so insecure like this? The writers really said fuck everyone’s character development even more than they already had
I continue to not give a shit about skoom also this was just exhausting I can’t do it
Also that is NOT Luna and Radius. That “he wouldn’t say that!” meme is ME SOOOO MUCH during this season at so many people but I actually started YELLING about Luna being some sort of soft gorl while Radius is this prideful ignoramus
Sirenix giving Aisha that blonde hair while knowing about the insane white washing to come in the future is something I Think About
The sirenix song does bop also, although I’m so sorry to say I don’t think I’m as big of a fan of it as a lot of people are but maybe that’ll change as I hear it more please forgive me
Also, Musa’s little coffee grinder move during her sirenix transformation? So cute, wish we actually got to see it more than like 2 times. Damn you shortened sirenix transformarion sequence
Im convinced Tecna doesn’t actually know karate, she just thinks it looks cool so she mimics it. Same with Flora and her ballet/lyrical looking poses she does during her sirenix transformation sequence. She doesn’t actually know those styles of dance, she just thinks they looks neat and tries to copy it.
Dark sirenix, you’re slaying thank you for your service
Bloom, you can’t insult Diaspro and remind her you’re a princess in that fucking dress while she’s serving cunt like that
The combat is soooo slow compared to previous seasons I hate it
The rigging throughout this season was a MESS
They should go after the handful of companies that are actually responsible for the majority of pollution and destroy them and their ceos a la Flora season 1 core
Where did they put all of that trash they got out of the ocean? They went to the pacific trash island and cleaned it up. Where did it go? I’m so curious
All of the kings are so STUPID too the whole meetup thing was so dumb like just fucking,, help each other you know it makes more sense
AND PUT SOME MF RESPECT ON THE WINX’S NAMES, ALL OF THEM. They are GUARDIAN FARIES who have saved the magical world HOW MANY TIMES NOW??? Bites the writers bites the writers bites the writers
Their little dance workout outfits? Hatred. I miss the old ones so much. All of these outfits from this season,, it’s so clear cishet people were the main ones designing the clothes I hate it so much it’s not the same kind of tacky and camp that the first 3 seasons had. The only good things I can say about the dance outfits is that Flora’s purple leg warmers were cute, Aisha’s color palette was nice, and Bloom’s was very Bloom core
Icy: you guys are helping me??
Darcy and Stormy: I mean, yeah, we aren’t talking to you rn, but you’re still out sister
Me: OUGH🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭
I forgot Roy existed🥲
Daphne being brought back like this still seems so bleh to me knowing how they don’t really do shit with it and about how it was done only because they retconned all the og stuff from canon and to continue to milk the franchise until it’s teats are dry and chapped BUT I’m glad she does a little spinny at the end of the season with Bloom so at least I got that
that’s all I got for now
Shout out to @charmixpower for suffering through this all with me.
We watched the first half of the series in like 2 or 3 sittings that took place months apart, and then did the last half in one 8 hour sitting
I couldn’t have gotten through it without yelling at each other and making shitty jokes.
The psychic damage you inflicted on me throughout this was awful but I would do it all again in a heartbeat (but not really because good lird this was EXCRUCIATING sorry bestie💕💕💕)
Anyway onto season 6 now I GUESS
