it’s about 8 PM KST when viewers tuning into todays vlive are greeted by cutesy animal crossing music paired an even cuter duo waving with tight-lipped grins. “hello!” they chirp as the live chat quickly fills with a myriad of different greetings. juyeon and seungmin sit for a moment in wait for more viewers to join, bobbing along to the music and making cute faces as they glanced over the comments.

“okay,” juyeon finally says after sitting long enough to garner a few thousand viewers “hello everyone! how was your day today? honestly, seungmin and i had quite a long day today, so we thought we’d go live together to have a nice, chill time with stay and wind down before bed. how does that sound?”

seungmin is already chuckling to himself at the implication in her words before continuing, “joona and i typically have green tea at the end of the day, so we’ve prepared our tea and locked the door to make sure this will be a relaxing live.” juyeon is now laughing as she lifts her own steaming mug to show the audience laughing alongside them.

“like an asmr live without the asmr.”

“right,” seungmin says as he looks down at the comments on his phone “we’ll just be chatting and hanging out until we finish our tea, so send in some questions.”

“noona do you speak gyeongsang dialect or jeolla dialect?” seungmin read the comment aloud as if for her to answer and then went right into his own “honestly, chu uses both at home. her jeolla satoori always comes out when she’s trying to butter someone up.”

juyeon chuckled at seungmin’s blunt yet true statement, listening intently as he continued. “the jeolla dialect is kind of…silly…sounding…but it also has a lower pitch than her usual speaking tone, so she convinces the members by making them laugh. it’s really a superpower. no one can say no.”

“as for gyeongsang…well, the daegu satoori is higher tonally but sounds very sharp and direct, so it’s like her mom voice — it usually comes out when she’s really tired or after eating a lot.”

“yah —” the older girl now looks up from the comments at him, eyebrows furrowed as she glares over at him only to earn an innocent smile in return. he was too cute to be truly mad at, but she could pretend! “what does that mean? your assessment is all wrong!”

seungpuppy simply giggles. “no~ whenever we perform on music shows and you’re sleeping in the waiting rooms you’ll tell us to be quiet like a mom. like…” now a full laugh slips out as he straightens out to mimic her “‘hold your tongues or i’ll do it myself.’”

“i’ve never said that!” juyeon’s voice had noticeably raised a few decibels, a note that made seungmin smirk “you’re such a liar!”

the devious younger boy laughs again “that is what you sound like, though.” having proved his point through seemingly premeditated jabs he moves on with utter nonchalance, starting a whole new anecdote after a comment caught his eye.

“juyeon what is your favorite color?” she reads aloud before whipping to seungmin, smiling smugly as she clasped her cup closer “seungmin-ah? what’s my favorite color?”

for a moment he simply blinks back at her. “well…” seungmin trails off, earning himself a raised brow from the older girl now sitting back in her seat. “well?”

“you like red — you always have red lipstick on.”

juyeon shakes her head with a soft sigh "i do like red, but not my favorite. my favorite color is a hard color to wear, it's more of an accessory color."

the younger boys eyebrows furrow as he thinks, head tilting to the side while his gaze panned to the live broadcast like the answer would be hidden in the audience comments. "you don't wear it often?" juyeon shook her head again.

"mmm...orange." "close but no." "salmon?"

finally juyeon huffs and a shrill whine escapes her throat as she moves her seat to fully face seungmin who, giggling at the audience to hide from her sharp eyes, glances over at the call of his name. "kim seungmin! how can you not know this? it was my phone case for 6 months!"

seungmin belly laughs at her conviction, "i'm sorry, i don't remember."

juyeon rolls her eyes as animated as she can before grabbing her phone, notably cased in a primarily red flower design, before smiling up at the audience. "everyone, it's yellow. please remember yellow as my favorite color since this kid can't."

“what’s mine then?” he butts in expectantly. juyeon simply sighs as she scrolls through the comments. “purple, of course.”

as juyeon's story comes to a close, a certain anecdote stands out to seungmin before a reminiscent smile dawns on his face. "noona," he says, catching the attention of the older girl "remember when it snowed?"

"recently?" juyeon asks. seungmin shakes his head. "last year, when we all went outside to make a snowman."

"ohhhhhh" she now trials off with a similar smile curling her lips, cheeks now a shade pinker than before "maybe..."

seungmin turns back to the camera upon juyeon's hesitant response and laughs as he reveals what it was that he'd been reminded of; "last year it snowed while we were all in the studio, so we went outside to play in the snow before we went home even though we didn't have clothes for the weather."

halfway through juyeon whines about what's coming next but she doesn't stop him, instead tuning in to listen attentively.

"so, we get outside and joona starts walking out in her slippers, but before she sees the ice she goes to grab a handful of snow on the sidewalk and ends up falling right on her back." seungmin laughs almost like a kid "but! the best part is, the way she fell — her legs came up and her slippers flew right off — they were up in the air for like a minute before they came back down."

juyeon now 'inconspicuously' sips her tea, eyes peering over the edge of the cup to the stays laughing at her misfortune.

"oh!" after a long pause of silence as they read the comments juyeon abruptly exclaims and straightens out, subsequently causing seungmin to nearly jump in his seat, eyes wide at her sudden burst of energy despite the relaxing tea.

juyeon continues with a devious smoothness to her tone "you and han went on a date the other day, right?"

said 'date' was a recent outing together in which fans spotted them eating one-on-one and ended up taking pictures with the stay through the window, leading to a viral interaction online and memes being sent to juyeon. one of these messages sent on bubble, however, pointed out a special detail within the pictures.

and yet, seungmin is oblivious as he mumbles, "yeah?..."

“did you have a nice time? was it good?” juyeon smiles. it would almost be creepy if not for how cute she was. “yeah…?” seungmin utters.

"what song were you listening to? was the sound quality good? comfier than usual?" she's now scrolling on her phone in search of something, eagle eyed stays pointing out the bubble colors. seungmin is still lost. "what?"

finally juyeon finds what she is looking for and clicks on it to show seungmin with a 'gotcha!' type look. "those are my headphones — the ones i cried about losing on bubble."

finally, seungmin now understands what was going on. those pink headphones, juyeon's precious beats that she used every day, were pictured around his neck in the photos posed with stays despite her reminding him to drop them off after vocal practice. he gulped.

“oh.” seungmin chuckled nervously “isn’t that funny?”

“mmhm” juyeon hums triumphantly “super funny.”

with one last sip of her tea juyeon loudly finishes her cup and sets it back on the table, garnering seungmin’s attention as he peeks into her now empty mug.

“you just now finished it?"

she hums in response. seungmin turns back to the live. "joongie must be sleepy from the tea, she drank it so slow tonight."

"maybe i just wanted to talk with stay longer than you." juyeon now butts the younger boy from the speaker's box with a smile at the audience "stay~ we've officially finished our tea, so you know what that means; it is time for bed! please rest well tonight thinking of joongie who loves you most!"

laughing at her triumphant end to the live that had her fighting to hold herself back from the monster seungmin on her left, juyeon begins to wave as she reaches forward, pushing said monster seung to frantically wave himself.

"bye bye! thank you for tuning in!"

You had known youngjae since… let’s say forever.

From the states to Korea, you knew every single one of his secrets, personality, character, abilities and interests. Or maybe at this point you know about him more than you know yourself.

He was like an angel sent from God. Someone that had been your comfort person, someone you could rely on and someone who was good at being a secret keeper. At least from what you had been telling yourself because you were the hardest person to open up to people. Even youngjae . You just couldn’t find the courage to speak about it.

If a balloon is filled with too much air, the more air enters the sooner it’ll explode.

“I heard there was a time where you said in vlive about how scary it was for you to think about the pressure being put in a group last minute during your trainee days. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t feel comfortable doing it.” Eric Nam said. Somehow you realised you haven’t talked about this kind of situation to youngjae before. Youngjae’s eyes turned soft when caught you in his sight.

“I don’t think I had ever told eric or the members about what I had truly felt joining a group that I didn’t expect to end up with especially when the choreographies and music were different than what I was taught back then when I was a trainee” you forced out a laugh while you felt youngjae’s hand rubbing the palm of your hand as a sign of showing he was here with you.

You were good at holding yourself back. “ I joined the company 2 weeks after Eric did. I think that time he was the only friend that I had in Korea because i had to rely on him. He was the only person who could speak English before I met Jacob and Kevin. We still do until now because talking in Korean with him, Jacob or Kevin would be a bit more awkward.” You added. What you said were true. You never actually thought about speaking Korean unless you were with the members who couldn’t understand English.

“So the both of you are actually childhood friends?” Eric asked and Youngjae nodded. “i didn’t actually think she was going to debut the same group as me either.” Youngjae laughed.

“I had a hard time adjusting myself to fit in.” You confessed and you had never seen youngjae looked at you that fast in your life.

His eyes and touch softens. Almost like his eyes were saying ‘how come you never told me this before?’. “what was it like?”

“scary, frustrating. Sometimes it’s just me alone. I think that was one of the bad habits I had. I tend to forget that I had people around me to open up.” You didn’t feel sad- well, maybe you did a little. But if you were buried in this kind of trouble then might as well confess it.

Because back then and now, at the end of the day all you have is yourself.

Guilt rushed in youngjae’s body.

This would be the first time in a while since you had been giving Eric the silent treatment. He seems fine. You said to yourself.

But something wasn’t right with today. At least that’s what you had in mind. It can’t be the stunts. Not even the dance moves. You weren’t satisfied with what you had done today. Even the simple copy Juyeon asked you to follow made you a little annoyed with how different it had look.

Of course Eric had noticed it. He had noticed it since this morning.

The first thing he thought was you were on your days. Which was wrong because he checked the tracker app on his phone that yours had recently end. So it wasn’t about that.

He saw the tears you were holding in. Seeing how you went somewhere else made him follow you. No, he couldn’t see you being sad alone. If the tears were going to spill at least let him be your own comfort person. His heart stings at the sight of you sitting alone in the locker room, your sobs echoed.

It felt more than a sword through the heart. The sight was painful.

You looked tired. You look like you could die. And he was disappointed he couldn’t be the reason of your happiness.

With light steps he walked up to you, feeling how you were inhaling the familiar scent of his cologne. Your racing heart had calmed. “i’m here baby. I’m here now. It’s okay love.” He whispered, fluttering his eyes shut when he rested his chin on the top of your head while hugging you. Something about a hug filled with love and affection. God. His hugs were too comforting to pull away.

“I tried. I can’t get it off my chest.” You said, swallowing the lump in your throat. “I had been letting everyone down since day 1 I had been here and-”

“you didn’t baby. You never let anyone down before. Not Sangyeon, not Juyeon, not Hyunjae, not Changmin and not even anyone else. You were the reason why everyone could smile everyday without having the sense of worry about a performance, an interview, or even filming something.” The male confessed, staring at you with adoration in his eyes while he tucks strings of your hair behind. “You are our source of energy and our comfort person that could get us through tiring schedules. If you can’t lean on us then we would be losing you as well.”

It shattered his heart into millions of pieces just thinking about it. You went through a hard time alone. Yet you managed to stand in front of people with a smile on your face like nothing had happened in your life. You endured everything without taking a break for years.

You don’t know how long had it been since you felt this kind of weight being lifted off your shoulders. Because when you said it felt good, it really did. When Eric saw that you had calmed down, he started cracking up some of his jokes.

Bad ones but they managed to get a laugh from you.

“hey! I made you laugh.” Eric remarked, pointing at the way your lips went upwards.

“but your joke were funny. I’m allowed to laugh.” You replied. There was a moment of silence before Eric speak up.

“Then I would rather make bad jokes for you everyday just to see this kind of smile from your face love.”

tapping your fingers anxiously on the table, your lips nibbled on the straw you had been sucking frustratingly as the cup closely stuck on your nose. the blue light from your laptop continues to blare, as you stare right at it, trying to understand the words that were plastered on the document you've been working on for hours.

"ah, shit..." you crane your neck, sipping the lasts of your third coffee and settling it down as you focus once again and start to rapidly for a few seconds then blank out again. just as when your eyebrows start furrowing because of another brain meltdown, your eyes twitch at the sudden feeling of being stared at.

your eyes roam around the cafe instinctively, and it's almost met with the ones of your schoolmate you've only seen around, lee juyeon. he awkwardly shifts his eyes away from you and you found a second of entertainment, leaning back on your seat and crossing your arms as you, now, stared at him.

you see him continuously give you glances and you can't help but snort, finding it adorable how juyeon doesn't seem to keep his eyes off of you, even though he was caught already. when your phone softly vibrates, you sigh in disappointment as you gather your things, writing something on a memo and smiling at yourself.

as you walk closer to the exit and near his table, you could still see him give you quick glances and it makes you chuckle, biting the insides of your cheeks as you stop beside him. he finally lets out a small, awkward chuckle, looking at you bashfully.

"juyeon, right?" you smile, giving him the note that contained your number. "next time, just ask for my number instead of checking me out every two seconds." you nod at him, giving him a wink before finally walking out, leaving a very flustered and flushed-red juyeon inside the cafe, gulping his coffee nervously.

you can think whether he was really interested in you next time; but this time, you enjoyed being bold to your two-year happy crush who you unintentionally caught looking multiple times.

so in my opinion the best way to get into the boyz is by watching their variety content! usually when i start out these guides i send people clips of their rtk performances but since you've already watched them i can just skip straight to the variety content <3 if you wanted another guide for like . song recommendations from their discography i can do that too! just say the word hehe <3 personally i started liking them because of their variety content and their endless out of context vlive clips LMAO but here's my starter pack:

for a brief overview of tbz: introduction to the boyz

it actually IS brief okay it's just 40 minutes because there's 11 members to get through 😭 it's from 2021 so it's a little old but i'd say it provides a really good basis for future the boyz exploration! you can get a pretty good feel of each of the 11 members and their little quirks from this video, and it's a good mixture of it being a serious introduction (showing them being good at their job) and unserious (showing them being literally just some guys)

optional viewing: the boyz flower snack

flower snack was like their predebut show where they were officially introduced to the world! they're like super young here and while i wouldn't consider this essential media (esp since they've grown so much since then) i do think it's a good pick-me-up because of how feelgood the show is :") it's definitely cringy at parts and you can tell they still have that trainee air to them, but personality-wise i don't think a lot has changed since then till now :"") they're still a bunch of dorks and some jokes are still mentioned now and then (eric doing watermelon cpr)

the two links below are less of a beginner guide and moreso for when you want to dive deeper into each member's personalities and their inner thoughts! personally i would watch the fun variety stuff first and get a feel for each member before getting into the interviews, but you could also watch the photoshoot portions and then watch the variety stuff and then go back to the interviews for more context. any way is fine, it's up to you! - generation z

the guide from above uses the gen z clips for each member but so the photoshoot portion isn't anything new but! i think the full gen z playlist is really worth watching :3 because of the interview format it allows a glimpse of insight into each member, and honestly it was one of my very first tbz media where i started to really Get them ykwim...... the way they answer each question is so specific to themselves and the topics for each interview is very individualized, so even if you don't have the urge to dissect their brain like i do it's still a very interesting (and visually pleasing) watch! and also ..... the iconic juyeon yellow lambourghini clip is from here. for your own viewing pleasure.

speaking of viewing pleasure. this is very reminiscent of the gen z photoshoots but instead of doing video format interviews they decided to do it through written form instead! here is the thread for all the translations, but a few are missing bc their accounts got deleted :( for the members that got deleted, i found hyunjae's, but i can't find jacob's anywhere :( but basically the entire format of the interviews were that the members would write the interview questions for themselves, and then they'd answer them. i think because of this a lot of them have spoken about how much they liked this interview, because it let them reflect on themselves a lot! they were also a lot more comfortable with this interview compared to gen z because gen z was like ,,, their first time every doing something like this, but with byok the combination of having experience and writing their own questions let them be a lot more relaxed in the process ^^

weekly idol eps to watch: stealer era | thrill ride era

the stealer era episode is just soooo ... JWJSADJFL like they start airing out their dirt on national tv (younghoon and sunwoo get the brunt of it) and for a bonus johnny and haechan from nct are special mcs in this ep! the thrill ride era episode is so cute lolll it shows the individual traits of each member so well... like eric is there being a social butterfly and golden retriever right from the start and then juyeon is just being thrown boyfriend material scripts so he can act them out with hyunjae LMAO it's just a total mess but it's very... them. they have a few other weekly idol eps from other eras so you can definitely check them out too, but personally the stealer and thrill ride eras are my favorites to watch and rewatch ^^

dive studio podcasts: kevin | jacob | eric | english line

this is just a lot of fun to watch! they're definitely a lot less serious than the gen z and byok interviews, but they're still a good insight into how the english members came to become a part of tbz! a lot of fandom jokes come from here (mostly about how eric is friends with his friend's dad, jeff) but overall it's just a good time! they are Just some guys /pos.........

come on the boyz!: summer rpg | in nyc | godsaeng

there's another original come on the boyz series but i ... haven't watched it yet so 😭 i can't recommend it in good faith BUT the ones on here are stuff i Have watched and they're all very very cute :") tbz are like 1thek's sons HAHA so they have a lot of 1thek variety content but each one obviously has a different concept to it! they're sorta all in the name but personally my favorite is godsaeng :"") maybe cause it was the most recently filmed (and even though eric was still on hiatus during this time :( ) but it's just soooo fun and all the members are so goofy and lame and it just feels like you're watching a bunch of friends go on a 3d2n road trip together 🥹 the members' personalities really come out in all the installments and the editing is just so funny from the 1thek staff LMAO its just a lot of fun <3

honestly my best advice is to watch those edit/compilation videos that fans make on youtube! they're such a good way to get the best highlights from the vlives without wasting your time with like. 1-2 hour long lives HAHA my recommendations for channels to browse through are jellykims, txtbz, and jichangminluvr! you can probably rabbithole through the yt algorithm from there HAHA you'll have lots of fun i promise <3

i actually had my eye on tbz since like 2020ish when their reveal (catching fire) performance from rtk showed up on my recommended haha but i never really got into them until i saw like . i think it was a sunwoo edit on tiktok from one of his old vlives LMAO his loserboy swag bewitched me body and soul….. i fell pretty quickly for everyone else after that :’’) right now my bias line is sunwoo (number one loserboy pookie), juyeon, hyunjae, and changmin !! sangyeon keeps trying to steal my heart away with his perfect boyfriend-to-husband pipeline behavior though fjsjfksk i’m #stayingstrong!! and i think im a little biased bc of that rtk performance but reveal is the undefeated title track and album imo! like the reveal itself is soooo good but the b-sides on that album went crazy!!!! absolutely insane how they fit spring snow + goodbye + shake you down + break your rules(!!!) on one album btw! but i think the stealer is a close second and thrill ride + whisper maintain 3rd place in my favs ranking 🫶🫶

i feel like 2022 was kind of a hard year for tbz and for deobis which is why i think everyone kinda felt the lack of momentum?? i watched the 5th anniversary fancon a couple weeks back and they’d talked about how it was a really hard year for them fjsjfkdk everyone cried 😭 but i think now that eric’s back + comeback in january the fandom is picking up again? at least i hope so :((
