Ah, DGM 249. Tiedoll says, "Let's meet again." Johnny says, "We'll come home together." Allen though, who has been able to tell himself and the people around him the whole series that everything will be fine, that things will be okay...he can't make the same promise to see each other again to Kanda.

Throughout the whole arc we see Kanda forcing him to be the most honest he's ever been, pushed into telling his past, his secrets, his anxieties. In return Kanda earnestly tries to help him in any way he can, even drawing upon his own tragic experience with Alma Karma to help Allen pursue the truth. It's fitting that it is Kanda who takes this role of removing the mask because that was the part of him that Kanda hated most, the lies.

Now at the end of the arc, Allen could say he'll meet Kanda again. He doesn't believe in it, knows finding out more about Nea and his own past will probably be the death of "Allen Walker". So instead he says goodbye and thank you.

Allen's last words to Kanda aren't a lie.

Yo…in retrospect Allen Walker and gang’s fight stats go crazy. He’s like 15 and has fought the earl, aka THE big bad of the holy war, one-on-one in the Noah’s ark arc. Everyone on team Allen walker has fought the Noah—AKA the borderline immortal beings most exorcists of this era have never even seen before and those who have died at the hands of—so much they know most of them by name (like when Kanda said “shut up road” after he took her ribbon in the Alma karma arc).

If it wasn’t for the the whole Allen turning into a noah thing you know these kids would have been legendary exorcists with fan followings after getting back from the ark
