The most relatable thing that happens in P2 is when you hear terrible desperate scream-sobbing from inside a boarded-up house in an infected district, and if you break in and follow the wailing upstairs you can find Katerina who looks at you and goes "I didn't ask for help. I don't know who you heard screaming but it wasn't me. Go away."
girl same. "this is a cry for help" this is none of your business is what it is

Never thought I would be talking about resident scourge of the earth Alexander Saburov, but. Traipsing through Clara’s Route again it interests me how empathetically he believes Katerina’s prophecies. I mean. He does apparently attempt to look elsewhere to confirm Katerina’s premonitions, but the degree of phrasing catches my attention. E.g. “But for my wife’s firm faith in you [Clara], I would have handed you over to the Kains without a moment’s hesitation.” Then there is again that attempt to cross-reference: “I would rely on Katerina’s testimony entirely if I were a common man instead of one of the town’s rulers and an heir to a family that has maintained order in this land for generations!” Yet then there are these lines “If not for my blind faith in my wife’s words, I would have no doubt that you are an evil spirit, a spawn of the netherworld,” and “I trust my clairvoyant wife’s judgement. Even that trust, however, I would have thought unduly partial, but for seeing my hypothesis confirmed by her rival Mistresses.” The ‘blind faith’ is reinforced in Katerina’s later line “He trusts my premonitions too much.” ‘Unduly partial’ strikes me, too, even if it somewhat aligns with the aforementioned cross-referencing. All this perhaps reflects some details about Katerina/Alexander in their character concepts; firstly that their marriage is built on “affinity and respect rather than love.” That came to mind only because Alexander certainly seems like the only person who so emphatically trusts in Katerina—Andrey does tell Daniil that she is not talentless, and that Daniil should listen to her, but otherwise across the board most people accuse Katerina of being an imposter; even she herself.
This also provides unique interplay with the idea throughout Alexander’s character of the challenge posed to a ruler during plague, which appears referenced in his character concept: “The misguided sense of responsibility got in his way: the ruler washed his hands of it and left all the decisions to the mystics, who should be more qualified to deal with all that’s happening.” As though he deferred to his wife, which also perhaps fits into how Katerina is described as “more of ‘a ruler’ than ‘a ruler’s wife’.” I mean he is no Victor Kain in the cuntstruck malewife department but no one should be held to such a standard and even so. Another detail, too. How Saburov, Deputy-Bound-in-Chief of the Plague’s faction and supposed paragon of Justice relies on guidance that supposedly comprises distorted truth. That is, Capella claims Katerina’s visions are “are often distorted. The theme is right but the details are twisted,” which is perhaps elucidated by the Albino: “[Rat Prophet] is crafty. He speaks the truth, just like everyone connected to the Earth, but he distorts it… Mistress Katerina’s prophesies are like that too.” Just. the ramifications. The thematic consequences. for this self-proclaimed purveyor of Justice

Every time I rewatch Season 5 it strikes me how weird it is how much effort they put into making Katherine as sympathetic as she can possibly be, only to pull the rug out and send her to hell in the end. What was the point? I get that they wanted to use the Freaky Friday storyline to show that Stefan was over Elena enough to turn her down when getting the chance, but couldn’t him encouraging Damon to fight to get her back be enough? It’s just a weird writing decision, that’s all. Cause if this happened to early seasons Katherine I might’ve found some satisfaction in watching her go to hell, but as it is I just feel SO SORRY for her. Couldn’t they just have let her leave Mystic Falls and find some happiness in a human life with Nadia? Or at least let her go out with some dignity and find peace?

As you anything, you say?
Do your characters have any small indulgences? Minor vices? A favorite unhealthy snack? A counterproductive social game played among friends? Something they allow themselves to overlook once in a while that they know they shouldn't?
Oh I love vices!
Katya:
Katya loves sweets. She adores sweet things a little too much.
When she gets older, she likes to smoke a pipe when strategizing.
She likes to sneak around the castle. And she's shockingly good at it, as well. She knows she shouldn't, but she wants to know what's happening all the time.
Branimir:
Branimir likes his drink and his pipe. He's a working-class man with working-class vices.
He also curses a lot.
He has a habit of taking out his fake eye to scare people/pray and uses it as a good luck charm when he gambles, which is... pretty damn gross, actually.
Roksana:
She has very sticky fingers. Loves stealing small trinkets and other shiny things to take apart when she gets home.
Sana also likes to talk a lot of shit for someone who's like, twelve, and straight to people's faces too.
Sigma:
This man is just a bundle of vices, but one that he can't indulge in often: sweets! He's just as big of a fan of sweets as his great-grandmother is, particularly strawberries.
He tries to hide it, but he has a habit of hiding behind Valor when he's startled.
Valor:
Valor also likes to gamble, as a military man, and if left to his own devices, this would become a massive problem for him.
When he can, he buys himself double of what he needs (clothes, food, et cetera) and doesn't talk about it.
Oh, all of my characters are weirdos and I love them for that!

Kronion siblings in a nutshell:
They can't stand each other. The only difference is that Cornelius considers family ties to be important and therefore he still tries to be a proper older brother (despite the fact that he'd rather not), meanwhile Katerina just wants him to fuck off and stop constantly nagging her and dictating how she should live her life.
Their relationship is complicated.
