Imagine this for Shang-Chi 2:

Picking up from the mid-credits scene, Wong tells Shang-Chi that the rings sent out a beacon to their original owner. Apparently, the rings actually belonged to a mythical dragon known as “He Whose Limbs Shatter Mountains and Whose Back Scrapes the Sun” (aka Fin Fang Foom). In the past, Wenwu had stolen the rings from the dragon’s nest while it was hibernating. Recognizing the threat to the world, Wong, Shang-Chi, Katy, and Xialing make plans to take the dragon down.

At some point in the movie, Shang-Chi gets separated from the group. By some miracle, he ends up in Fin Fang Foom’s nest, where it is sleeping. Then, much to Shang-Chi’s surprise, he encounters Fin’s human protector. A woman who claims that she is the one who tamed Fin (basically, she’s Hiccup Haddock/Daenerys Targaryen).

Shang-Chi says Fin is a threat to the world, the woman says Fin is a gentle creature and that Shang-Chi is acting only on paranoia. This leads to Shang-Chi fighting the woman, leading into a direct parallel to Wenwu fighting Ying Li. Straight up, Shang-Chi falls for the dragon tamer and vice versa. The fight ends in a draw when Fin Fang Foom wakes up and tells them to stop.

So, pretty much, the focus of the sequel is Shang-Chi’s romance with the dragon tamer and bonding with Fin Fang Foom, realizing that he was wrong in seeing it as a threat. Keeping in line with the comics, the dragon tamer is Leiko Wu, Shang-Chi’s main love interest (albeit a loose adaptation of the character since MCU Leiko isn’t a spy).
