no idea why this evokes "RPG battle" to me. maybe its the sparseness? maybe it could be a genuine influence, given that in 1990 there were already a few digital RPGs with broad appeal? but then again, the kind of "rich" RPG music I'm thinking of didn't hit Europe until after 1992... could it be an influence from a dramatic gameshow? possibly a sports desk? Kieth Mansfield is known for his influence on TV audio, so there's a lot of possibilities here.

in any case it's good music. definitely a bit more "menacing" than other tracks.

This song brings intense early 70's/late 60's vibes, I love how tv shows/movies used to have such beautiful opening songs. Along with Ennio Morricone, Stelvio Cipriani and Francis Lai, Keith was one of the most skilled composers back then.
