ladyhawke (foth or sharpe)??? 👀👀👀
EXCITING DOUBLE BIRD EVENT! and here we get the fun time of describing the Difference between the sharpe and foth ladyhawke stories, and also why the sharpe one has been so much easier to write.
so the film Ladyhawke, in which both these stories are based, is about a curse placed on a pair of semi-star-crossed lovers, involving day-night animal transformations that don't overlap with the other half of the duo. but a lot of Ladyhawke's humor and charm proves to come from the fact that it's told from an outside perspective — a silly fellow with a penchant for theft, prison breaks, and general mischief. and thus, it's a much smoother journey to allow the Chosen Men to scamper about low-fantasy vaguely-medievalpunk au-Spain...
“We ain’t deserters,” said Cooper, offended, and set his jaw. “We was on a mission.” “It wasn’t really a mission, you know that perfectly well,” interrupted Harris, shoving his way forward. “But it was important we found the Major! …more important than that fool’s job we were s’posed to be working on, anyway,” admitted Cooper, refusing to show any fault on his part. Sharpe stared at him in mixed confusion and dismay, and Harris determined that he’d speak his piece more fully this time. “Well, you see, it was that you up and vanished, and so we figured that we ought to go and find you.” “And it’d be helpful, wouldn’t it, if we did!” put in Perkins. “We didn’t mean to be gone long,” said Hagman, the only one out of the four of them to display even a smidgen of guilt. “And we wouldn’t have been, if he hadn’t—“ “—if you hadn’t broken into the—“ “—well, you’re the one who—“ “—you and your damned rum—“ “…and that’s how we went and got ourselves arrested,” finished Harris, as if Sharpe had been able to determine the slightest through-line of truth in the cacophony of conflicting stories. “But we got out again, as you see.” The four Chosen Men, the last remnants of Richard Sharpe’s final command, looked at their officer proudly, quite as if they expected to be congratulated for their unexcused jaunt off from the army and their trip in through one side of a prison and out the other.
...than to take that whole journey through the soggy and sorrowful perspectives of Keith 'frequently is a cat against his will' Windham and Ewen 'really would not like to be an eagle anymore' Cameron...
The next day dawns misty and damp, a clinging curtain of fog folding itself around the two travelers. The sick, dizzy feeling that comes with transformation takes far longer to leave than is typical, and so he remains prone beneath the overhang of rock as his cramped muscles slowly ease. He had cared little for where he fell as the morning’s shift took him off his feet, sprawling to lie on his side with one hand fallen in the now-cold ashes of the previous night’s fire. Despite the scrap of shelter provided by the outcropping of stone, the thick wetness of the air has already seeped into Keith’s hair and clothes, and as a tendril of wind brushes across his back, he finds himself shivering enough to set his already-strained body to aching. “If this is summer, Ardroy…” he mutters, knowing that his words will be neither finished nor heard. The mere suggestion he has put forth inspires a wholly new fear in him — where shall each of them be come winter, and will the curse still bind them together when the seasons have made their turn? Keith laughs cheerlessly, stretches out a hand to feel the rain against his palm. Damn this country, damn this war, damn whatever fate had been cruel-handed enough to serve him so poorly…. Catching his words close again, he stops himself before he can finish. One thing at least, he cannot curse, and that is Ewen Cameron.
...so yeah! you see the tonal shift between these two.

16/07/2022-The Global Bird Fair in Rutland and Lyndon Nature Reserve
Today we attended the first ever Global Bird Fair and had an amazing day. Now when it was announced that the old Bird Fair which I’d attended ever year up until the pandemic since I was eleven held by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust in association with the RSPB at Rutland Water Nature Reserve at Egleton would no longer be held last winter I rather regret a little the tone of the tweets I did about it. I saw two of the reasons mentioned for them no longer hosting it; the ecological impact of holding a fair on a nature reserve and the focus of the event on international tourism at this time with the climate crisis and thought “you know what, good points”. I wanted to be seen to back such thoughts in line with values I want to stand for. I did also nostalgically celebrate what this annual event meant to me and that I will miss it. However I should have dialed the former down as I didn’t read the room that on social media reflecting opinion in the community generally most were angry at the Bird Fair’s axing due to other reasons which I was too. I failed in my thoughts shared to consider the political importance of the event for birder’s and wildlife watchers, how much it means to many across the globe and how much of a valuable knowledge share and celebration it is to raise money for charity and looking back I felt it made it seem I was glad it was ending. Which whilst I saw the benefits of the particular two reasons, couldn’t be further from the truth. So I wanted to explain that I was proud today to attend this re-birth of the event from Global Birding sponsored by many of the same partners and be at the first one, on the Rutland show ground putting less pressure on the reserve and whilst in Rutland getting to tread a little more lightly I hope and visit the nature reserves of Rutland Water to watch wildlife.
Just like Bird Fair always has it was a day of valuable social interactions for me within a diverse community, much food for thought and much learning. We attended some brilliant talks today, seeing one on the incredible Rutland Sea Dragon discovery, one from Harry Munt of Save the House Sparrow and how they can be key to rewinding a very inspiring young man, one from Heatherlea who we did our Scotland trip in 2018 with and one from Keith Betton who we know from Hampshire birding of course about Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch. I know Harry from social media having a lot of interactions before I‘ve always really liked following his projects and relating to him and he is local for us. So it was brilliant to get a bit of time to chat to him and his family, so feel good. With Heatherlea too we spoke to the team which was nice. David Lindo who’s work I admire and who is always so kind and talkative and a fair few other faces we knew from visiting Bird Fair in the past were lovely to speak to with many people we recognised that we saw today too like Nigel Marven.
We also spent a lot of time at the bird ringing demonstration from Rutland ringing group/BTO a highlight of the Bird Fair every year for us. Another remarkable moment this weekend occurred here when they brought back a Sparrowhawk to ring! I’d never seen a raptor ringed before and this majestic female bird with its fine feathers and piercing eye with sweet yellow feet was a sight to behold. What a privilege to see this ringed and get to take some photos, after the Kestrel seen on a telegraph wire from the car yesterday that’s two unusually close views of stunning raptors we’ve had this weekend. I took the third, fourth and fifth pictures in this photoset of this bird. It’s always so fascinating to learn so much about the birds and ringing and I come away so inspired by the team of ringers. Chiffchaff which I learnt a bit about, Chaffinch and a few Great and Blue Tits were other birds it was great to see ringed.
Likewise Butterfly Conservation’s stand had some lovely moths on show, with the wonderful Elephant Hawkmoth and also an Eyed Hawkmoth not one I’d seen before key sightings. Butterflies I believe Gatekeeper and Small White and Woodpigeons were nice wildlife to see from the fair today too with a Buzzard flying over at the start as well which was a treat in a good day for birds of prey I have long known with this and Sparrowhawk. White clover was nice to see here too. I am so glad and thankful to Tim Appleton MBE and the whole team that they got this event on to continue to get us all together for a good cause after the three year gap. I took the sixth picture in this photoset of a view from the show ground.
On this glorious sunny evening we had a little look at the wonderful Lyndon Nature Reserve on Rutland Water where we have always come when up here for the Bird Fair. We got some epic views over the huge body of water as the sun lowered with luscious green vegetation glowing in the light. There were some brilliant bird moments as I saw a couple of boisterous Bullfinches and Great Crested Grebe, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Cormorant and Common Tern on and around the water, with a few Pheasants seen at the shore too. Mute Swan, Black-headed Gull and Blue Tit were other great sightings. Rabbit especially and also Grey Squirrel in the world of mammals were also great to see.
There was an amazing butterfly moment here when I saw another Purple Hairstreak getting a stunning view of this gem of a butterfly landed. That’s three Purple Hairstreaks seen in three counties in three days now and I’ve seen them in four counties so far this year Hampshire, Sussex, Norfolk and Rutland, something phenomenal for one of my favourite species. A joyful fifteen minutes of butterfly counting took place as I saw six Small White, two Meadow Brown, three Comma, a Peacock, two battling Small Tortoiseshells high up a sweetly emerald sunlit tree which was a great sight, four Gatekeeper, four Ringlet and a Specked Wood with Gatekeeper especially seen well outside of the count. Brilliant summer memories at an amazing site for insects. I also saw a Common Nettle-tap moth a lovely little new one for me and others here.
My first ever Brown Hawker photos a star of this weekend one of the photos the first in this set that I had hoped to add this species to my year during it as one landed on a tree with another coming in to make it fly a few minutes later was a big moment of dragonflies on this walk, it was wonderful to make out its fabulous colour. What a special species. Bees were nice to see here too.
Finally there were some floral delights at Lyndon with my first mullein possibly black mullein of the year as the seventh picture in this photoset shows and my first ever dotted loosestrife a pretty yellow one seen near the visitor centre, and wood avens, herb-Robert, self heal, possible cow parsley, lovely little forget-me-not, rosebay willowherb, St. John’s wort I believe, scabious, lovely nettle leaves shining in the sunlight, common spotted orchid as the tenth and final picture in this photoset shows, meadow crane’s-bill, red campion, the honeysuckle in the ninth picture in this photoset and others seen nicely on the walk. I enjoyed grass today and there were some nice patches of berries starting to come through at Lyndon too. I took the eighth picture in this photoset of a view here on this beautiful evening showing Rutland Water and a tree. It was so good tonight and this morning to take in the views of a town, villages and hamlets I love from driving through on the way from and to the hotel when coming up for the Bird Fair all those years Rockingham which the second picture in this photoset is near, Caldecott, Uppingham, Preston and Gunthorpe with the brown and green field so symbolic of the summer landscape seeing Eye Brook Reservoir too all this looking nice in the sun. We got some cracking views of Red Kites on the way in this morning again too.

Rhug owner described bird situation as 'heart-wrenching'

Rhug owner described bird situation as 'heart-wrenching'
THE moorlands of Corwen’s Rhug Estate are one of the most important areas of upland habitat in the country and provide a breeding ground for some of the UK’s most threatened bird species.
However, there has been good and not so positive news at the site.
A recent study has shown that while certain bird species are thriving, there are others that have seen significant declines.
Following a successful application to the Welsh Government, the Rhug Estate, along with Llanarmon and Rhiwlas (North Wales Moorland Partnership) have been able to undertake a survey of breeding birds on these moorlands.
This activity has been part of an EU-funded Sustainable Management Scheme where baseline surveys of fauna, flora and other variables will help to inform management initiatives in the future.

Ornithologist Keith Offord has extensive experience of the Berwyn going back 45 years.
Last year he set about expanding the usual surveying as part of the project so that Rhug Estate could learn more about the bird life on the moors.
Most strikingly, comparing the situation today with 45 years ago, there have been significant declines in certain species with corresponding increases in others. In the meantime, there are some species which appear stable.
Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said: “We value Keith’s expertise in this area and appreciate the extensive survey work he has already carried out.
The Berwyn. Picture: Keith Offord (Image: Picture: Keith Offord)
“It is heart-wrenching to learn of the species we may never see here again as a result of how the climate is changing.”
The species which have declined, or are now absent, are: Golden Plover, Ring Ouzel, Red Grouse, Black Grouse, Snipe, Wheatear, Dunlin, Merlin and Curlew.
One very obvious common factor for many of the birds which are declining, according to Keith Offord, is that they are specialist upland species which are on the southern limit of their UK range.
It has long been predicted that shifting climates will, unsurprisingly, have the greatest impact on those species which belong in particular climatic envelopes. Conversely, a number of species on the northern edge of their European range are increasingly spreading north.
Keith explained that the shifting climate may not be the only factor affecting moorland bird populations.
There are other pressures such as habitat management and predation, in particular from Carrion Crow and Fox.
  Meadow Pipit. Picture: Keith Offord (Image: Picture: Keith Offord)
  Species showing an increase in numbers include: Carrion Crow, Common Buzzard, Red Kite, Hobby, Raven, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Blackbird and Wren and those whose numbers are stable include: Hen Harrier, Kestrel, Cuckoo, Whinchat, Stonechat, Meadow Pipit, Skylark and Reed Bunting.
Keith said: “The habitats across the survey area clearly demonstrate how a differing mosaic produces the greatest diversity of bird species.
“A mix of heather, bilberry, gorse, bracken, common sedge and a scattering of native trees, such as rowan, provide the optimum conditions for diversity.
“The heather itself appears to benefit from management policies which create diversity in depth which also reduces the fire hazard.”
Despite declines in some species, others are managing to thrive perfectly well, a good example being the most abundant bird of this habitat, the Meadow Pipit. Correspondingly, Cuckoos, which are in steep decline across much of farmland Britain, are reasonably numerous.
Being a brood parasite, they are of course also dependent on species such as Meadow Pipit as well as a good provision of invertebrate food.
Some other species, which previously may not have been regarded as upland birds are seemingly increasing their presence, good examples being Wren and Common Whitethroat.
These survey results are for 2021 and the findings from 2022 are currently being analysed.

“Just because people are crappy sailors doesn’t mean that someone else is always to blame,” muttered Lance, “And plus. We don’t drown people for fun.” He leaned close, face inches from Keith’s. “We drown them for dinner.” My piece for the amazing Watercast, from @fishwrites. Keith’s design is from @lowaharts Without a doubt one of the best works out there ♥ Took me 5h and I’m so proud of it. I loved how the colors turned out | ptSAI

I remember one time Kestrel and I were playing Left 4 Dead 2, and in the middle of one of Ellis’ monologues about his buddy Keith (who usually suffered grievous injuries and burns “over 95% of his body” in all his stories), she heard this one particular story about Keith being chased by a man with a white cloth over his head, and began to believe that Keith was a Black dude, and he was constantly being harassed by rednecks because he hung out with Ellis’ white ass.

This is for Day Gentronweek: Fairy Tales/Fantasy | Protecting the Other’s Honor
I have these 2 done right now, but looks like I’m not going to finish the others in time.
This is actually an idea that I came up with a while ago. I had actually planned a fic for it, but I doubt I’ll ever write it.
Allura is still a Princess, and Coran is an Advisor. The paladins are a special group of knights that work directly under Princess Allura.
(Pidge was a handmaiden before he decided to disquise herself in order to join the knights to find her missing brother)
Instead of lions they all have differnt animals.
Shiro has a wolf. Keith has an African Serval. Hunk has a bear. Pidge has a Kestrel, And I can NOT remember what I was going to do for Lance. (I think I gave him an otter, but I’m not sure. seems like it was something else.) yes i know keith has a wolf in show, but i came up with this before that and i really like the idea of him still having a cat. and shiro with a wolf
I’ll reblog with the others when I get them done.

Awhile back @dinahdarling tagged me in a post of blogs that make her happy, and inspired me to compile a list of some of my favorite blogs!
Tumblr and irl friends:
@princessxika Scarlett, light of my heart, who's put up with me for 17ish years and counting. Thank you for everything.
@beverlytoegoldv Kestrel, who listened to me liveblogging the entirety of my first listen to all 100 episodes of NADDPOD (hopefully) without judgement, and who has the best takes. I always enjoy seeing you On Your Bullshit, Kes.
@buggy-blogs Bug, one of my first Witcher friends, who came into my messages and asked to be friends, and who I instantly bonded with. You're worth so much more than what some boy wants you to be, Bug.
@witchernonsense Fortune, who is endlessly hilarious and writes incredible Witcher fics. I am in awe of you. Someday I'll draw that "I'm Your Daddy" Geralt.
Pet and veterinary blogs:
@fractiousrvt/@talesfromtreatment, I love your posts- the videos, reading about your fosters, the crazy things you see at work.
@pangur-and-grim, of course- I love all of your animals, Greer. I'm so happy for you that you finally got your chickens. I'm very sorry Pangur is ill, and I hope she's feeling better soon.
@sidetongue, all of your dogs are fantastic. I hope Miller and Harold are feeling better soon.
@dairyisntscary Scout, I'm so happy for you to finally have your cows! I hope you have many great years with them! You get the worst anons, but know that I, at least, think you do nothing to deserve them.
@followthebluebell, @silver-sivien, @kaijutegu, @drferox
Doll blogs:
@dollsonmain Tiffy, your situation saddens me, and I hope you'll be free of it someday. You seem like a good mom and person. I love seeing what you do with your dolls, you did such a good job on Groddy!
@cosmomoore, @oak23, @firespirited, @trufflesmushroom, @keiths-dolls, @dolldirt, @queenofsquids
Critical Role and NADDPOD blogs:
@kimabutch, I can't thank you enough for putting together the Jam Like Critical Role playlist. I gained and continue to gain so much new music from it, and its creation is an incredible endeavor.
@beverlytoegoldv, @drinkingdeadpeopletea, @nonbinarywithaknife
The Witcher blogs:
@dinahdarling, you have so many great AUs! I love your stories!
@valdomarx, I read all of Geralt and Jaskier's Brothel Adventures yesterday and lost my shit the whole time. You did such a good job on oblivious himbo Geralt.
@ladycibia, your art is incredible. I love what you do with the chibis, they're all so precious.
@witchernonsense, @tutuwho, @dandelionslute, @dandeli-fine, @owillofthewisps, @roughentumble, @some-stars, @punk-jaskier, @jaskiegg, @jaskier-wearing-dresses, @drowningbydegrees, @ficsandcatsandficsandcats, @goldandlights, @limerental, @girl-in-red-crossing, @korrmin, @witchertrashbag
Writing/YA Critique blogs:
@discountalien-pancake, I love what you do with book covers! Your posts are always thought provoking.
@spaceshipkat, @longsightmyth, @bittenwrath
If you're not on here and either I follow you or you follow me, know that I love you, tumblr just only lets me tag 50 blogs.

Do you have any Klance/Voltron blogs that won't post Shiro/Keith art? Like, not Broganes, but romantic art... It's hard to find one nowadays and I really need new tumblrs to follow. Klance/Lance/Langst-centric ones would be a plus! I had to unfollow a few blogs because they suddenly decided to post Shiro/Keith romantic art.
most of the veevee blogs i follow have switched to multifandom blogs so here are some of the remaining ones that first come to mind that still post mostly veevee:
@kxlance @kcithslance @214b @bittenred @leggylance @ezdoklance @klance-net @taxashi @kestrels @kiilea @scaultrite-lenses
i also have an artists page if you wanna follow some artists too

Hey, didn't you make a post about what animals you'd subscribe to the Voltron paladins? Could you post a link to it?
Updated 8/18/18
I did have older posts [which can all be found here] but I’ve also changed my mind about a few of them and expanded so I thought I’d condense them all here into a new, improved animal thoughts post, so, have at anon!
Some of these are a bit speculative because we haven’t seen all that much of the characters, but I intend to keep this post updated and edited accordingly. (Tagging things relevant to this with familiar AU from here on out!)
Also some thoughts about how I imagine this tentative “AU” working- some of the rules are taken from His Dark Materials (the Golden Compass books) but some operate differently. Roughly, everyone has a familiar that they to a certain degree share physical sensations with. The familiar is part of who they are, and its form is contingent on personality and nature.
Unlike in HDM, familiars appear from the start as the form that they’ll spend their entire lives in, no shapeshifting involved. Also unlike in HDM, there’s no particular unique discomfort or taboos about a person touching another person’s familiar directly. Familiars will generally have a sympathetic personality to their host but depending on a person’s relationship with themselves, they can end up at odds with their familiar.
Familiars are a universal thing- all sentient races have them.
There are rough limits on how far a familiar can comfortably move from its host, but those limits vary person to person and are keyed to certain personality factors.

so a fun thihv question: if the other humans (and the alteans too actually!) were to have animal forms, what would they be? (yes, i realize im basically asking for fursonas ok but YOU wrote it, youre in NO position to judge me shdkdnsk)
believe it or not, ppl have asked for some of their THIHV fursonas before lmao. hunk’s is a kodiak brown bear, pidge’s is a hare.
as for allura, I really see her as an otter! either that, or a deer. coran would probably be a monkey (specifically an emperor tamarin). i love the idea of shay as an elephant although that’s super inconvenient ahahaha so if not that, then a badger bc they dig n stuff. were there other human characters…uhh…ooh, oliver, aka the ex-thrall Five, would be a kestrel.
bonus, henry mcclain would have been a floppy-eared puppy dog if keith hadn’t brutally murdered him :D

Kinda urgent! Bur do you have a neutral variant or maybe a neutral nickname for Keith?? Thank you!
Kay? Kel? Kestrel? Kellen? Kennedy? Ken? Kenny? Key? Kai?
These are just my initial thoughts... good luck! :-)
