I have so many I can’t pick one!! 🥺🥰 but if I had to pick just one it would be when Kevin made back to Madison in time to see the babies be born & his dedication to her and the kids “This family is my life” “I don’t wanna take jobs that are gonna take me away from you. This is all I’ll ever need” 💗

definitely still have a this is us finale hangover. love the show and how they wrapped things up. how simple yet striking the final ep was but NO ONE would ever convince me that kevin and sophie is the right choice.

some says that kevin's character development would have been pointless if it wasn't sophie but let me just say that change should ALWAYS and ultimately be driven by our want to be better individuals for ourselves first. kev is one of my fave characters and i think part of why im really disappointed is how they made it look like he's not capable of change if not for sophie.

the writers obviously didn't want to let go of a story line they had years ago even if the whole story now suggests otherwise. sad and annoyed by how they gave kevin lots of moments thinking and really wishing for a complete family (his ultimate dream) only to not give it to him. that hurts.

i love the show so much but they wasted a lot of gold on that part.

This Is Us Kevin’s ending thoughts - SPOILERS

Alright so. I’ve had a week for that to settle and I have THOUGHTS.

-once they broke up for a second time I NEVER saw Sophie and Kevin getting back together. Why would they after everything Kevin did??

-so I was surprised the writers did what they did and tbh, that last scene with them getting back together was cute. My little heart 🥺🥺

-AND YET. The message is problematic. It was all about Kevin making himself better for Sophie while she was trying to move on and couldn’t. It’s telling us as women to wait for our partner to grow and mature, even if it takes decades?!?!? Now yes Sophie didn’t just sit around and wait for Kevin, but she got divorced twice in that time. Hmm. Sounds like the “no successful relationships except your true love” trope. Ugh.

-I love Kevin bettering himself. His character arc is great. But why ruin it by making it that he only did it for Sophie??

-speaking of Sophie, WHY DIDN’T SHE GET HER OWN EPISODE EVER. I want to know about her outside of Kevin. She’s a great character and the writers did not do her justice. Sophie deserved more than two divorces while “waiting” for Kevin!!!

-and finally….it should have been Kevin and Madison. Although I love Madison’s character arc, I think I would’ve also loved her learning to trust that Kevin loved her and gain self confidence. I would’ve loved Kevin learning that his happy ending doesn’t need to look like his parents did.

You could switch Sophie with Madison in all of the episodes after the wedding and it wouldn’t change anything 😬

I think it would. It would show that Kevin’s development into who he is at the end of the series mattered. He wanted to be a father with a family providing for them and what he got wasn’t that. The build up to Madison and Kevin makes more sense and feels way more natural than Kevin suddenly after six years deciding AGAIN that Sophie is the one.

If I was Sophie I’d be hella pissed with the back and forth.

Plus it seems like Madison/Kevin were the back up plan to Sophie and Kevin and that’s why I think all of her scenes are so short and clipped - they only had so much time with her to film. The actress is in another tv series. She’s barely registering as a character imo. But with Madison there would be a continuous relationship, scenes of them in each others lives for years before Kates wedding (where Sophie is miraculously on her second divorce and is still forever in love with Kevin) and certain scenes, I think filmed before Sophie’s actress became available show what was supposed to be.

I also think there would have been more time to shoot longer more meaningful scenes with Madison as the wife 1. The actress isn’t contracted to another show so they can shoot longer. 2. Madison has been front and center to Rebecca getting sick so she’s seen it from the beginning.

Being there for Kate and Kevin and how seen how it’s affected the whole family especially after so many lines in the series alluded to her being apart of the family. After Kevin blew up on her at the hospital when Kate was giving birth and her saying she wasn’t family, to her becoming pregnant by Kevin and literally being apart of the family. Hell, Randall even told her she was apart of the family and them being there for her wasn’t weird or odd when she was giving birth while waiting for Kevin. Kevin also proposed TWICE. (He doesn’t seem like the type to just do that especially S5 Kevin. Maybe S3 Kevin but not S5 Kevin.) That was emphasized way before she even got pregnant and I always found that scene to be foreshadowing and it was.

I just feel like it’s more impactful that’s she’s been there from the jump than Sophie who has been out of their lives for years and is shoved back into the family six years into Rebecca’s illness. Idk but Sophie feels like an after thought.

Even the scene where Kevin tells Madison he’s taking her off as his emergency contact seems like there’s pieces missing like it was too big of a build up to be just that conversation. Since S5 the build up of Kevison was there and obvious and suddenly there’s an Elijah and Madison accepts his proposal after six months - a man that’s barely on screen when she literally almost jumped into a wedding just months before????

Even the flash forward we got in S5 I believe where Madison tells Kevin she told him “12 times” no boys allowed was acted and shot to show how close, friendly and intimate they were with each other. The way she walked up to him is not a way a married woman with a new baby would walk up to the man who just happened to father her children and wasn’t in love with her.

There’s an obvious shift in S6 regarding Kevin/Madison and I believe for some god awful reason the writers or maybe just Dan wanted everyone watching to believe Sophie was always it.

I just don’t buy it.

At all.

All Kevin has ever wanted was a family unit of his own. I can not believe they actually took that away from him. I think it was in S1 or S2 he said something like he wanted to “find a good women & have a couple of kids” ahhh that hurts. In my mind the show ended at 5x11. He was so content & happy!!

This shot in the latest ep actually hurts so so so so much. Like more than anything, it’s seeing Kevin look at the family that he’s always wanted and dreamed like you said, anon, and one that he will never truly have. Not really. This is what he truly wanted more than anything. Flip a coin and it was to have his own family with his wife and kids, living in a small town all happy and content.

the thing about me is i was only loosely invested in this is us so whether kevin ended up with madison or sophie i was chill because i felt lots of potential for both ships from what i saw of the episodes so whoever ended up being kevin’s endgame, good for them, but the three of them could’ve made it work i know it in my heart

I’m not crying you’re crying 😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰 This makes me really happy. The way Justin believed in Kevin & Madison. He spent years advocating for them & he really did see the same potential many of us did!! S5 was Kevin’s best era... he believed they were in love & that’s exactly what was shown until all of a sudden they had to come up with some reason to break them up. It was just silly the way they did it. So here’s to S5 Kevin. He was crazy about her. He felt so good, full and happy because he was in love with Mads 🥺😭🥰

I think all this really says about me is that Kevin Day works in almost every possible pairing because he is pretty and bisexual and has more bitches than anyone else. Any pairing involving Kevin is 100000000x hotter just because he’s there.
