Vernal Equinox 2023

The spring has crept into our winter where I am. Green things started to bud and bloom in February. I feel a slow returning to myself.

This year I’d like to picnic with a loved one or three someplace quiet and pleasant. I’ll bring:

Rows and rows of tamagoyaki. This is a Japanese rolled omelette, a touch sweet. I love deviled eggs but I’ve grown a little bored with them. A friend of mine gifted me the rectangular pan before he returned to Japan. I can’t make them quite like he does, but I’m determined to enjoy practicing it.

A salad of arugula and red lettuce with sliced watermelon radish, asparagus, zucchini cut into ribbons, edamame, peas, roasted hazelnuts, thick flakes of parmigiano reggiano, and a dressing made of lemon, olive oil, and goat cheese.

Chicken curry salad. I've associated this with Ostara since reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods in highschool. I’m going to experiment with a Japanese rather than Indian curry flavor, with kewpie mayo and diced apple. Pray for me.

My partner has picked up mead brewing as a hobby, so a growler of this will come with us. I am planting elderberry this year so I hope for an infusion in the future.

Matcha marscapone tarts with a miso pâte sablée, topped with berries and sliced fruit. Miso seems like an odd addition to a cookie like crust but rather than being salty it imparts a nutty flavor.

I definitely need to stop hoarding clear files, and now acrylic stands. These are so expensive when you think, “they are only a few bucks.” However, when there are shipping restrictions, and so many of them (acrylic stands) at once, it gets kind of expensive to keep hoarding. It’s hard to resist when they are based on characters I love, however, so I am just hoping they won’t release more...anytime soon. Lol!

I love the Emil pouch, he’s so freaking adorable and has his skeleton torso under the cloak. The rest of the stuff is super nice too, I love the AOT acrylic stand panels -- I got all the ones with Eren, and a few clear files of him as well. Of course, I love the Lulu and Sasuke stuff, although I was almost not going to get Sasuke’s acrylic stand. I am not fond of him wearing street clothes. But then I saw it was in-stock, and my order hadn’t shipped yet, so I added him as well as the adorable PuriPla Kewpie plastic model. I hope I can get the other version as well; I got this one because of the black kitty in the scene. I am so tempted to leave it un-built, because it’s so freaking cute like this too (and so tiny!). DX
