Hill Street Blues cast photo for the seventh and final season that aired in 1987.
Back Row - Robert Clohessy (Patrick Flaherty), Robert Prosky (Stan Joblanski), Megan Gallagher (Tina Russo).
Middle Row - Betty Thomas (Lucy Bates), James B. Sikking (Howard Hunter), Dennis Franz (Norman Buntz), Kiel Martin (J.D. LaRue), Joe Spano (Henry Goldblume).
Front Row - Taurean Blacque (Neal Washington), Daniel J. Travanti (Frank Furillo) and Michael Warren (Bobby Hill).
There's a few long running cast members, who were still around for this season but missing from this pic - Veronica Hamel (Joyce Davenport), Bruce Weitz (Mick Belker) and Charles Haid (Andy Renko).
I found the last two seasons a disappointment compared to earlier ones but they were saved by the introduction of Lt. Buntz. Buntz was a (slightly) toned down version of a corrupt cop played in a couple of earlier episodes by the same actor. Buntz also had a shocking dress sense with huge kipper ties that never matched his suits (which looked as if they might have been fashionable a decade earlier).
Of the actors pictured above Kiel Martin died in 1990 and Robert Prosky in 2008.

During the Weimar Republic and again after the Second World War school architecture was a hot topic in Germany among both architects and educators. Educational concepts turned away from the authoritarian treatment of children as small adults and sought to look at education from a child-centered perspective. Along with the insight that light and air result in better hygiene and health this gave way to new forms in school architecture, most remarkably in the shape of pavilion schools.
These impulses were most prominently taken up by Martin Elsaesser in the context of the „Neues Frankfurt“ and Bruno Taut under Martin Wagner’s aegis as chief city planner of Berlin. Their schools in both cities experimented with forms and a more liberal, less teacher-centered education. Of course the pavilion schools required significantly more space than traditional multi-storey, block-like schools, a circumstance that earned this type of school fierce criticism especially in regard to cost efficiency. Accordingly pavilion schools remained an exception and only after WWII really flourished. One of its most successful advocates was Rudolf Schroeder (1897-1965), long-term municipal architect of Kiel, the capital of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein: in his capacity he reflected the models of Elsaesser and Taut and after the war realized some 20 pavilion schools.
The latter served as backdrop for a conference at the art history department of Kiel university in 2021 entitled „Licht, Luft und eine neue Pädagogik - Die Kieler Pavillonschulen und der Schulbau der 1920er bis 1950er Jahre“. The conference contributions have been published by Verlag Ludwig in 2022 in an eponymous volume. In an exemplary manner the book organizes the essays in such a way that the architectural, educational and political context for Schroeder’s schools becomes clear. This context also includes the architect’s biography as well as an insightful essay about the education politician Toni Jensen. Together with individual surveys of each school the book offers an unprecedentedly deep insight into inter and postwar school architecture in Germany and Schleswig-Holstein. An essential publication!

I don't usually get into the weeds with this stuff, and yet.
...Actually, I'm not done talking about the Reddit Cecil (and Amber and Kiel for that matter) Hate Brigade. Because like. They're weird.
Like, I get not liking a character, and I get not wanting to marry every candidate (for one thing, you literally can't, at least not in the same save). That's all fine, we all have preferences! But past a certain point, it all just seems way too insistent, and dare I say performative. It seems to come from a place of, like, "look at me, I would never sexualize children! So much that I clutch my pearls at the idea of even liking a fictional character who is short and kinda goofy! I'm a good person, not a freak!" Which just makes one look like a freak about fandom discourse and short people, tbh.
And sure, sexualizing kids is gross, but... Nobody is accusing anyone of doing that on some random Reddit thread of people talking about their blorbos. (I mean, they might, but people try to start fights about all sorts of things.) We can chill! Honestly, it's kinda unsavory in and of itself that this keeps getting brought into it at this level of frequency and intensity. I don't want to think about the abstract concept of someone somewhere being a pedophile when we're just trying to have a lighthearted conversation about which silly little farm game guys are the coolest.
And that was weird enough, but then I realized that I might have it backwards, at least when it comes to some of these people.
Because sometimes I think it comes from a place of... Thinking liking a character and finding them attractive are the same thing? Or at least in a romance-oriented game? So if you think it would be gross to find a character attractive, you have to make a show of hating them, or just instinctively hate them period?
Like I said, it's weird!
As someone who considers Cecil one of their faves in RF5, I can't say I thought about that at all either way? At first, I just thought he was funny and liked seeing his little adventures. Then I realized that his characterization is actually really interesting, and among the most complex of a slightly underwritten bunch.* I like how his issues and story remind me of what it was like to be 18-19 and trying to be taken seriously as a person! The implicit tension around how protective Martin and Terry are towards him when it's probably their lives that would fall apart without him is fascinating. He's just really neat! And I feel comfortable saying that, because "I like this character a lot" isn't interchangeable with "would smash," and that's kind of a weird assumption to make. Do... Do they think that's the only reason to like a character at all? Do they think that's what we're all doing? Is that what we're all doing, and I didn't get the memo?
Like, there's a point where I have to wonder... How the hell horny are these people? If my reasoning is correct, hornier than I can get my head around. O_o
(...Not that I have anything against being horny! You probably know this if you've read my fic. But there's also more to life! You probably know this if you've seen the word counts on my fic. :P)
*imho, he gets what might be the best blink-and-you-miss-it subtle character moment in the whole game... The thing where Yuki said he gives a really good shoulder massage? And then you think about it for a sec and realize where/why/how he picked up that particular skill? I think about that constantly and hope it was intentional and not just me reading into things too much.

Operative Praxis
1.

so what are the ships you "absolutely adore"?
for rune factory? dylas/lest is my top ship rn. after that it's martin/ares, reinhard/ares, leon/kiel, doug/vishnal/arthur and ryker/cecil(/ryker).
if i have to ship dylas with someone other than lest, it would be arthur. i could also ship him with doug but at that point i would just want to add lest again and make a dylas/lest/doug triad. i really like triads in general but they are harder to write/draw. also every time i write polyamory people assume its harem which is Completely Different. anyway back to my point, i know i said i wasnt big on rivals to lovers ships but i feel like lest can kind of be like the glue that makes dylas and doug gel better. same thing with martin/ares/ryker, the addition of a third element kind of helps domesticate them. the protagonist in this case is like a slice of bacon, bridging the differences between salty and sweet. its like how the maillard reaction makes good things even greater, like yeah you COULD just rawdog that vegetable but it tastes better with a little bit of char ykwim
micah, kyle and raguna are bicycles and i don't really care who they get shipped with (though i do prefer the m/m ships by virtue of being a gay guy myself).
outside of rf, i'm still pretty predictable... i mean, vildras epic seven (which is a friends to enemies to lovers ship that includes the protagonist). ngl i just prefer shipping player character/npc or protagonist/npc over npc/npc so you can see that in a lot of my favorite ships. no hate to any gay rf ship bc i ship them all its just about how far im willing to go for them

Headless Skeletons Discovered in Prehistoric Mass Grave
Archaeologists have found a mass grave site containing 38 decapitated burials at a Neolithic settlement in Vráble, Slovakia.
The remains of 38 people were discovered in a ditch surrounding the settlement by archaeologists from the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1266 of Kiel University (CAU) and the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Nitra) during this year’s excavation in Vráble. Their well-preserved skeletons were jumbled together and all of them were missing their heads, with the exception of a young child.
“We assumed to find more human skeletons, but this exceeded all imaginations,” reports project leader Prof. Dr. Martin Furholt.
There are three Linear Pottery Culture settlements at the Vráble-Ve’lke Lehemby site (5,250-4,950 B.C.). A geophysical survey found 313 homes inside the perimeters of the three villages, which were inhabited around 5110 B.C. That makes Vráble one of Central Europe’s biggest Early Neolithic settlements. Not all of the houses were occupied at the same time. At its peak, there were approximately 600 people living in 80 homes, making it a very large community for the Early Neolithic.
During the excavations in the summer of 2022, the Slovak-German team uncovered the remains, spread over an area of about 15 square meters. One on top of the other, side by side, stretched out on their stomachs, crouched on their sides, on their backs with their limbs splayed out – the position of the skeletons does not suggest that the dead were carefully buried. Rather, the positions suggest that most of them were thrown or rolled into the ditch. All of them, with the exception of one infant, are missing their heads, including their lower jaws.
“In mass graves with an unclear positioning, the identification of an individual is usually based on the skull, so for us this year’s find represents a particularly challenging excavation situation,” says Martin Furholt.
The discovery raises many questions. Several bones out of place suggest that the already-skeletonized bodies were pushed into the trench’s center to make room for new ones. Some skeletons also have the first cervical vertebra preserved, indicating that the head was removed with care rather than in a rash violent action.
“It may seem obvious to assume a massacre with human sacrifices, perhaps even in connection with magical or religious ideas. Warlike conflicts may also play a role, for example, conflicts between village communities, or even within this large settlement. Did these people fall victim to head-hunters, or did their fellow villagers practise a special death cult that had nothing to do with interpersonal violence?” says project leader Dr. Maria Wunderlich.
An important part of further research is to find out more about the dead. An interdisciplinary team of researchers will examine the skeletons using archaeological DNA analysis, radiocarbon dating, and stable isotope analysis to shed light on the dead’s age at death, where they were raised, whether they came from somewhere else, whether they had any close family ties, what they ate, any illnesses they may have had, and what may have been their causes of death.
By Leman Altuntaş.
