Next batch up, either tonight or tomorrow depending on how the spoon supply holds out: Raspberry Wino Fuel!
(Yes, that is a bad play off the Polish on the label. No, I am not sorry.)
Tumblr media
Tentative plan is to make a quarter-sized batch (2.5L), roughly going by the package directions as a baseline for what to expect from the mix. Only, using one of those mesh bags as a big teabag to hold the dried fruits, etc.--so I can just pull the solids out later. Also some of that liquid yeast that I accidentally ordered, instead of what they included in the pack. Already have plenty of my own yeast nutrients to go in with it.
Tumblr media
Thinking to start out in the bigger jar, and save the 3L green top one for secondary fermentation with less headspace. Worst case, one of the existing plastic jugs of the right size should be free by the time that's ready for secondary.
I am really not sure why they're saying to step feed the sugar in exactly that way. But, may as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Feeding it through a calculator, the amount of sugar they're calling for should give you around 12.5% ABV in the end, which is fine by me.
I got these dry blends with the idea of using them to jazz up some cider and mead concoctions, but yeah may as well try some out as recommended first. Get a better idea of what we're working with before breaking out the apple juice and honey.

Homemade Alcohol for a Shrub.
This is actually a fruit wine I made with my own fruit and a wine kit. The instructions below don’t require any extra equipment. I’ve made shrubs for years. Fill a bowl with imperfect fruit, add sugar, spices, macerate the mix, strain it, age a few days and add a little white vinegar and you have something special on your hands. You can see my recipe for shrubs here: shrub-a-dub-dub Lately I’ve…

Some interesting alcoholic drinks that could be other angels' names
Whilst in the angel realm, the concept of weirdness may not similar to what is Universe 7's Earth idea of weirdness but this is likely that the angels rarely find things and philosophy as odd, and if they did, it is not universally agreed due to huge differences of opinions and the rarity of finding things weird, is well, rare. But while being named by the Grand Minister is a blessing, there are few names that can raise few eyebrows up, like:
Denaturat ( From Denatured alcohol aka the stuff you can't drink. he is the family secret, not really broke any rules but he's a menace).
Spike (From Spiked Punch, a life of the party, a colourful character, looks calm in the outside but everyone finds out the extrovert they are).
Punchi/Punch (From Punch, can be cordial but got a heavy mouth and speaks informally. At random times they speak their mind and they don't hold back any punches hehe.)
Kilyu (From Kilju, it is pronounced similarly to "Kill you" in Universe 7 and the name is considered as a curse in Universe 5, Universe 9 and Universe 8, akin to curse people to bad luck and despair. Even saying their name is taboo in some areas in Universe 8.)
Pruno (From Pruno, aka Prison Wine, enough said, she's good for emergencies).
Fusela (From Fusel Alcohol or Rotgut, aka the "bad liquor", troublemaker, check, considered as a fault, check, her demeanour is utmost strange, even to angel standards.)
Daishinkan will never run out good names for the angels, especially the kais are still creating hehehe.

Yesterday's News from North Korea. Number of Volunteers Increases in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) -- Admirable traits are steadily displayed among young Korean people.
More than 30 youths in North Hamgyong and Ryanggang provinces volunteered to work at the railway transport sector.
They have vowed to work at difficult posts of the railway transport sector by inheriting the preceding generations' noble mental world and tradition of struggle.
Young people in Kim Chaek City and Kilju, Myonggan, Unhung and Paekam counties joined the ranks of volunteers.
Meanwhile, more than 10 youths in Ryanggang Province, including a youth league official in Kim Jong Suk County and graduate students of Hyesan University of Agriculture and Forestry and Hyesan University of Medicine, petitioned to work at farms true to the Party's programme for the rural revolution and at other difficult posts.
Officials and young people of relevant units presented bouquets to those volunteers, giving warm send-off.

The next Redneck Brewing experiment in line!
Tumblr media
It's like the infamous Peeps Wine, only more Swedish. (Plus more...and even more.)
Also, involving fewer undissolved eyes and less lurid color unless I add in some sort of food coloring myself. I did consider basically just using them more or less as a sugar supplement in some nice juice, but nah that felt like cheating. We're going 100% marshmallow rabbit here.
Yes, I actually ordered a kilo box of these poor bunnies mostly to do terrible things to them with hot water and yeast. Getting started a bit late, but hey. I really doubt longer aging would improve the results that much. 😅 The plastic tub should come in handy, at any rate.
These are not bad at all just as candy. I purposely chose the Franssons over a bigger brand because these don't list any vegetable oil or carnauba wax in the ingredients. Just a shit-ton of sugary stuff, gelatine, and a little sorbitol.
Tumblr media
They also don't have any fruity flavor like the Cloetta are supposed to, just a more straightforward marshmallowy taste. This may be for the better or worse; we'll see soon enough, once I get my act together to actually mix it up later!

North Korea cracks down on theft of electricity meant for industry
Three months hard labor for tapping into wires that supply electricity to factories or hospitals.
By Ahn Chang Gyu for RFA Korean
2024.01.26
rfa.org
North Korea is cracking down on electricity theft, punishing not only residents who tap into factory supply wires, but also the corrupt officials that sell them access, residents in the country told Radio Free Asia.
Electricity is not supplied to residential areas all day and all night in North Korea.
Instead, rolling blackouts are common everywhere, with some rural parts of the country only getting one hour of power each day so that they can prepare dinner.
But factories, hospitals and other important government facilities receive a steady supply. Shrewd employees at those facilities make extra cash by charging residents to run wires from their houses to connect with the industrial wires.
“The social security department is patrolling each neighborhood of the town at night, cracking down on houses that secretly use industrial electricity,” a resident in Kyongwon county in the northeastern province of North Hamgyong told RFA Korean on condition of anonymity for personal safety.
“They regularly go to factories and institutions to check to make sure there are no electric wires connected to homes,” he said. “Two days ago, a house was caught using electricity at night by tapping into an industrial wire. Six houses have been cracked down on by the county, just this month alone.”
Location, location, location
The amount of electricity the government supplies to your home depends greatly on where you live, he explained.
“Kyongwon is a typical agricultural county with a few small local industrial plants and coal mines,” he said. “Electricity was well supplied until the fall threshing season, but now it is only available for about an hour a day.”

Though the capital Pyongyang is given priority, even residents there usually go without power for some of the day. Areas close to the border with China also receive more electricity because the government wants to give a good impression to the outside world.
Kyongwon county borders China, but the populated areas are some 5 kilometers (3 miles) away, so they have not been deemed important enough for constant supply.
“On January 1st, the New Year’s special electricity supply lasted less than six hours that day,” the resident said.
Least wonderful time of the year
Most of the electricity in the border areas is generated by hydroelectric power, and output is lower in the cold winter months, another resident from North Hamgyong told RFA on condition of anonymity to speak freely.
“As winter approaches and electricity is not readily available, there are many cases of people being caught secretly using industrial electricity,” he said. “Around January 10, a house in Kilju town that had been secretly using the military hospital’s electricity for over three months was caught.”
The resident said that the wires had been installed in such a way that detecting them was not easy.
“Also they dug into the ground about 30 meters (98 feet) away from the hospital and buried the electric cables all the way to their house,” he said. “The next-door neighbor never noticed the house was using industrial electricity.”
The police investigated the situation and discovered that a hospital employee who oversees its electrical equipment connected the cables in exchange for 100,000 won (US$12) per month,” he said.
“The hospital employee and the male head of the house were punished with three months in a disciplinary labor center,” the second resident said.
Using industrial electricity in the home is common practice for government officials and rich residents, he explained.
The rich and powerful can usually bribe or bully their way out of punishment in North Korea.
“It is only the powerless residents who are caught and punished,” he said.
