Into The Drink | Tarou Akiyama | Ch4 Execution
{CW: Deep Water, Claustrophobic spaces, Crushing}
Tick tock, ten minutes have gone by. It’s time for one Tarou Akiyama to face his punishment. It doesn’t seem like he’ll be going out comfortably, thanks to Kimiko. He writhes against the podium, just another instance of violence to top off this awful affair.
[deadlight engines initialized]
One of Tarou’s desperately reaching hands manages to grab hold of the knife handle, yanking it free from his back. He screams: a hoarse, tortured sound that fades out as the harbormaster’s body is consumed by static. When the unfocused particles that used to be a hand vanish, the bloody weapon drops, tumbling through the air. Once again a screen descends from the ceiling, snapping into place just as the knife tinkles to the floor. For a brief moment, all is silent.
[morphogenic fields operational] [a beat chases naught but emptiness]
The screen flickers to life, and through the haze Tarou has been shoved backwards into a wooden box just large enough to accommodate his height. His arms wrap themselves around a wooden pole inside. An open coffin and an oar.
Two irezumi-clad figures, dressed only in loincloths and with faces blurred by static, crouch down on either side and lay hands on the coffin. They hoist it up on their shoulders, almost like palanquin-bearers, and Tarou gets a split second to recognize his dim surroundings. Sparsely placed lights illuminate the flooded subway tunnel just enough to glimpse the twisted mass of metal underneath the two thugs.
Unceremoniously, the coffin is thrown forwards, sending Tarou’s pitiful lifeboat skimming down the surface of the flooded subway tunnel. Jolted by the impact, Tarou is shoved into a sitting position with his back to the rest of the tunnel. The infernal machine before Tarou dominates his view: a massive engine, some godforsaken amalgamation of train and ironclad. Slowly, slowly it grinds into motion, inching forwards.
The look in Tarou’s eyes says he’s already dead, but the harbormaster still white-knuckles the oar and starts paddling backwards. As he picks up speed, so does the railship, but only enough to keep pace.
Tarou and his imminent death make their ways down the tunnel, passing Faker bodies floating in the murk. At first, he doesn't recognize the corpses. But the further down the tunnel he goes, the more corpses he sees that give him pause. A middle-aged woman in a yukata. A tan-skinned schoolgirl with strong arms and thick legs. A man, slightly younger than the woman, whose body has no right being in such good condition.
The chase continues, Tarou's arms cry out in agony, but he doesn't stop. He's not giving in. The Benefactors will have to rip his life from his cold, dead hands.
That's when a light shines from behind him.
Over Tarou's shoulder is a station, the station. The platform is brilliantly lit, when compared to the tunnel. Has… has he really done it? Has he, he dares to hope, pushed hard enough to avoid his execution? Returning to the station was just awful enough an end to be believable. Tarou paddles furiously, ignoring all the pain to propel his coffin towards the platform.
He draws alongside it, and in an instant the tide has turned.
The platform is entirely empty, yet a glass bottle of cheap beer flies through the air. Tarou has no time to wonder where it came from. It nails Tarou on the side of his head, shattering over the harbormaster and sending him overboard.
In the brackish water, Tarou loses all concept of direction. Which way is up, which way is down? In a moment of luck, he latches onto the capsized coffin’s edge, pulling his head back above the surface.
Tumblr media
Then all is red with pain.
The dreadnought-locomotive has caught up. There's no fanfare save for the roar of water when its bulk crushes the coffin, and Tarou along with it.
It finally passes, and the water is red with the SHSL Harbormaster’s remains.
[Tarou Akiyama has been executed.] [our will be done]

Waves of sorrow||Yuudai||Chapter 4 end/Chapter 5 start||re: the execution time, hell
[cw: vague mentions of water/open water areas, crashing, mention of injuries ]
There was nothing more to add. Tarou was going to die after all. After witnessing one last stabbing, courtesy of Kimiko, that was the last time Yuudai would see Tarou in the same room. The dancer felt only disappointment for the harbormaster, as the other insisted he ‘had to do it’. Honestly, why? Why was this necessary? When Yuudai thought that maybe Tarou deserves to be forgiven for the time back in the Nowhere, he realized that right now it didn’t matter, everything that happens now just erase any, even mild, good impressions back then. When Tarou was taken away for his fated execution, it was uncomfortable to watch where the taller Akiyama was placed, however Yuudai didn’t look away, realizing that the said coffin was like a boat, and thus open. And then there was something like a train coming. Yikes. Sure way to die. The blond watched the other struggling and still clinging to life pathetically as Tarou tried to reach whatever place he was going to while getting away from the biggest threat. Glimpses of the corpses around the harbor master made the blond frown. Just what exactly happened with Tarou in the past… What was going on..? But even so, there was no time to wonder long, once the other Akiyama lost sense of direction for a moment and then uselessly trying to escape death, only for the train to catch up, all was over by then.
… Was it really how it was now? People here are not the same as before. Of course they change after some traumatic events but… Really… Reaching this point, the blond was so tired. People are getting worse, and some even tried to make him feel bad for just telling them to chill down with the violence. He was not trying to pretend to be better than them, he just didn’t want anymore bloodthirsty fights going on. It has been too much, already.
There’s only one person he can fully trust for now. Some other people he didn’t talk to much… He might give them a chance… But the rest that started it all and kept up the drama for a bit by participating? Nope, definitely not talking to them. It was only a good thing he remembered their names and their faces well enough after few conversations to avoid them. He might have not talked to Hoshimi at all individually, but he sure as hell wouldn’t want to seek her out for a chat. Especially after the argument. Yuudai was so salty, and if he had to admit it, scared as hell of some people. Just how much longer would this go on? When would this end?
Right now, there was only one thing to do to ensure the dancer’s own safety better… Even if it seemed counterproductive. He wants to get rid of that stitched up bullet wound, get rid of the claws wounds, it’s been too long. That extra life will help him certainly… Even if someone dear to him would protest, Yuudai would tell him to let him go alone and only once, then the dancer will be never touching the Nowhere ever again after. He just wants those wounds gone. And so, he walked away from the trial room.

the darkest thoughts you’ll entertain | Kimiko | Chp4 Trial | RE: Neo Hoshimi ATTN: Neo
"If we start belittling and torturing our classmates, we are no better than the Benefactors."
She felt her fingers twitch and her ears burn. How many times.... How many times did she have to say it?
"Let go of your revenge, and take a good look at what we’ve become.”
Why should she have to let go when he deserved it? Mother always said 'take no prisoners, show no mercy, crush all that deserve it beneath your feet' so why was it so wrong to do what she was taught? And what was she supposed to look at anyway? She was the same girl she had always been. The same disgusting girl. The same girl.... She felt her hands tremble slightly. She wanted to change. She wanted to change but she was the same. The same as she ever was.
She wonders, for a moment, if she might start to cry. But she doesn't. Her face stays the same, but her hands give her away. They tremble so slightly, and she wants to scream. She wants to turn and scream and scream and scream-
Hoshimi voices thoughts that are close to her own. She feels relief on her face. It's not exactly what she wanted to say, or how she would put it.... But it's close and that's what matters. She swallows hard, her mouth feels so dry and her ribs ache again. She wants to keep looking at Kisuke but... She turns around, hands retracting. She'll say it... She'll say it one last... One last time.
"When.... When have I ever changed? I don't need to look at what I've become. I haven't... I haven't become anything. No maybe that's wrong...." She glanced back at Kisuke and brought a hand up to her necklace. "I've become soft, that's the only change. I never claimed I was ever any good. I've told you... I've told you that I'm not a good person... How many times do I have to say it? Why don't you ever listen? Don't you get it?" A dry laugh escaped her throat, she felt the corner of her mouth twitch before it did. "But I'm still not anywhere near Akiyama Tarou or the benefactors corner of evil. Didn't you hear him confess?"
It was baffling. How could they not understand? "He doesn't feel any remorse for what he did to her so why? So why.... Why why why exactly should I feel anything else but contempt for him?" She glanced back at Tarou, that soft tender smile back on her face. "What dose this change our situation of living together anyway Neo-san? He didn't even help. He never did. So why is it suddenly that we won't be able to live together? Why, when he never even live with us in the first place?"
She just... couldn't understand it at all.

I felt myself disintegrate | Kimiko | Chp4 Trial | RE/ATTN:Kisuke RE: Yuudai
She notices Kisuke shift back. He looks... He looks terrible. But Tarou deserved this, he deserved to suffer a horrible and glorious death. He wasn't worth anyone's mercy or kindness. He had trampled all over dear sweet Renée's kind heart, had killed her in cold brutal blood. So why....
The one person she didn't want to hurt... She twisted her necklace in her hands. She told them... She had told them she was bad, why didn't they ever believe her. She had tried to warn them. But everyone... Was always disgusted with the real her. With the her that lurked beneath the surface, that hated and hated and hated- Love... Hate... Love, Hate...
Would they be disgusted with her? She told them the most... She told them the most and yet they... They wouldn't be happy with her. Kisuke wasn't happy. He was upset. They would be upset. She rubbed her forehead smile finally falltering. She didn't... Want to make them regret it. She couldn't but.... This was... This was part of her. Even if she wanted to change- she wanted to this part of- could she? She was her mother's daughter.
She turned to glare at Yuudai. Sink to their level? "I never claimed to be above it..." She muttered to herself. But then she spoke up. "How are we not already the same? We're still going to condemn him to death, she'll still be dead. But he killed her in cold and brutal blood. Death won't bring him the suffering he deserves. Death is kind. But this... It's just a touch... Just a taste of what he deserves." She turned back to smile at Tarou again. "But I suppose we can stop. We can take some solace in the fact his death will be meaningless. Not like Joseph, who died to protect us. Not like Uta who died to protect our loved ones. Not like.... Not like Kosami who died in the name of love. Right Akiyama Tarou? What will you being dying for? Nothing."
She finally headed over to Kisuke, she needed to make sure he was okay... He was still... She slowly stopped in front of him, reaching out to hold his face. "Kisuke." She would speak softly, she needed to make him understand. Everyone else could hate her. But he couldn't, she couldn't.... She couldn't handle that. "Kisuke... Look at me please." She leaned in closer, to whisper only to him. "Kisuke remember when I said that.... Bad people are not always punished? I know it's not... It's not a pleasant sight but you... Please understand. We have to. If we don't... If we do t punish him nobody will. Death is too kind. Well stop now okay? But... It was important to do this."

Let me dream of a better world||Yuudai||Chapter 4|| trial, re: Hell basically
So there was a confession. And quite frankly, Yuudai wasn’t amused at all, nor was he really feeling anything else. He was so tired of this. He was so tired of everything.
When Tarou begged to stay alive, it took every willpower from the blond to not roll his eyes.
Honestly, what a joke. Tarou brutally killed Renée and honestly, if it wasn’t for the concentration of people there, Yuudai would have gladly walked near his podium and toward Tarou to throw a punch in the harbormaster’s face. Simple as that.
But somehow, this is not what the dancer has expected to actually happen.
Sure, there should no be mercy for such brutality, but it… Was getting really creepy how ecstatic the class was to make Tarou suffer so much.
Maybe it’s because Yuudai still had some hope for some reason that people wouldn’t disappoint him further… But… At the same time, they just did Disappoint™ him so much in such short time.
And even if Arthur wanted this to end right now, he… Also started it. Yuudai wasn’t so sure how to feel about the coroner. Maybe it’s because the redhead was blinded by anger but.. It.. It still wasn’t justifiable in any form. By no means did Yuudai think that people shouldn’t be angry at Tarou, because boy, they have every right to be, but.. To this level.. That did make the dancer question if there was any ounce of humanity left here.
Yuudai was aware that Kimiko was talking to Tarou, and he had no idea what she said to the harbormaster, as he was actually too far to hear anything, however he was certain that it was just pure hatred.
And right now, his gaze wavers to Kisuke, and no matter how much he wanted to pull the funeral director away from the mess, getting in said mess to try to break it would probably do more bad than good, and worry some more people unnecessarily because of Yuudai’s own injuries. He can make smarter decisions than this, for sure. But, really this mess…
The dancer coughed a bit loudly, to catch people’s attention as he’d try.
“Can… Can we actually stop this nonsense. I understand your anger. It’s completely, entirely justified to be so angry at Akiyama Tarou. WIthout a doubt. But you’re just as bad as him for wanting to make him suffer. Are you willing to reach this low level for sure? Let it end. Please. He’ll get what he deserves, death. But that also include you voting for him to make it sure it’ll happen, making him suffer is just wasting time in the end. All I ask is. Let. It. End. It’s not necessary to keep this up anymore. I’ll shut up now.”
And so, Yuudai enters a vote after reaching his own podium, to then run back to be next to Taiki.

this quiet is deafening | Kimiko | Chp4 Trial | RE+ATTN:Tarou
CW: saying terrible things, sick burns, the drag of the century, but no seriously if you have issues reading intense “you should die” stuff don’t read this.
[♪♪♪]
                                                     Now?                                                                                No, not yet. Almost.
She clicked her tongue, opening her eyes once more. Tarou spoke, and he confessed and she felt a smile tug at her lips. Her whole body trembled…. with anticipation. Now. She finally turned around, finally looking at the worthless boy that thought he ever had a chance.
“Otherwise, everything that happens in the outside world is on your heads. Not mine.”
What a farce…. She giggled very suddenly. She clamped her hand over her mouth quickly. But anyone could she the corner of her eyes crinkle, this smile reached all corners of her face. And then Arthur told Joss to ‘get him’ she wasn’t sure what that meant and yet she knew it could only really mean one thing. She was looking forwards to it. She just hoped that she could get in a little bit of retribution…
She finds true happiness in the sight before her. In Tarou’s suffering, being chocked out like he had done to her friend. There was a poetic nature to it, turning the tables back on him with his own choices. She wanted to move closer, to laugh at him fully. But Then Kisuke surged forwards. He didn’t like it… He was kind. She moved to follow slowly. But she just stood beside Joss, Kisuke and Tarou. She would wait patiently for her turn.
It was clear as day that she was happy, so truly content. But Kisuke was distressed…. That ruined the moment just a smidge. She circled around, so that she was at Tarou’s side only. She didn’t want Joss or Kisuke to be in the way. She leaned in to whisper in his ear, tone soft and calm. "Akiyama Tarou… Those lives aren’t on our hands. They never were. But you tried to take matters into your own, those lives… Those are on your hands not ours. Not just her life…. their lives also…”
She took his face in her hands and forced him to look her in the eyes. She was smiling, not like the time in the pharmacy. No this smile reached her eyes, they even shone with something…. Something unpleasant. And then she spoke up. “Akiyama Tarou… You’re life has always been worthless. You were never going to amount to anything. No matter what you did, what choices you made…. You have and always will be worthless. You are a weak, cowardly, and disgusting boy. Your first mistake… Was simply being born. But you made your biggest mistake here, today. You killed our friend, someone precious to us. You took the life of someone that had so much promise and kindness… That was full of life. Did it fill your withered heart? Did you feel anything at all?” Her voice was so soft, she spoke so tenderly these words so clearly filled with hatred. She let out a small chuckle and stroked one of his cheeks gently. “You know… dying might be the most useful thing you’ll ever do. That you ever could do. I hope it’s slow…. You know, I don’t believe in hell. But if somewhere like that exists… I know that you’ll be going there. And once you’re dead? I’m going spend the rest of tonight celebrating. And when we escape this place… I’ll make sure you have a grave, just so I can dance on it.” She let out a soft sigh. “It makes me really happy, to see you suffer like this. You deserve so much more for what you did to her."
She released his face. "I’ll drag you to the ninth circle of hell if I have to myself, so you bet your worthless soul I’m going to vote you. It’s an eye for an eye Akiyama Tarou.” She gave him a hard pat on the cheek. “Death is a good look on you.” She winked at him, that smile never flattering. She moved to lean against his podium.
                                                                   Ah the perfect view.
