Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day means acknowledging that those very people are still here and that what they have been forcefully left with after colonization is unjust. Their culture merits protection and preservation. Their existence alone is an act of resistance to a devastating campaign. And yet, the campaign continues. The #kindermorganpipeline project beginning in Canada will cross parts of the Salish sea and will pose a threat to the Salish Sea’s ecosystem that so many residents, Native and otherwise, depend on for their own livelihood. Local PNW governments consistently ignore the words of the local tribes, thereby threatening to suppress their culture, diminish the quality of their livelihood, and cripple the local environment. This is not about conservative or liberal. Destroying this ecosystem will ripple destruction and the consequences of those decisions will not discriminate. • @romabeez is the queen of my life, goddess of my universe. Isn’t she a dream?!
