ok ok ok something that's been on my mind about Ai Di and Chen Yi & the conflicted feelings everyone (myself included) seems to have around them hooking up

obviously Ai Di taking advantage of drunk Chen Yi is bad. Chen Yi was clearly super out of it, and even if he did eventually recognize that it was Ai Di in front of him, he was still not in the right state of mind to be sleeping with someone

it feels weird to even put a 'but' after a statement like that, but honestly, the context is so important. there's a big difference between, say, a sober person irl taking advantage of their drunk heartbroken friend under normal circumstances, and a feral gang member who has literally run people over for the hell of it taking advantage of his crush who is also a gang member and has flung himself at feral gang member (twice now) even though he's supposedly in love with their boss who is also a father figure to both of them.

like... it's almost impossible to view this situation through a "normal" lens lmao. also, most people irl are not in a situation where running away from your guilt entails going to literal prison for four years

so yeah, what Ai Di did was fucked up, real world or fictional, but I think it's okay to not bend over backwards trying to justify his actions when the context is so far beyond what is "normal" circumstances

my main concern about this is that the author of the novel publicly stated that her story was inspired by a very specific kinnporsche's actor and that he was the only actor she wanted for one of the main roles, to the point that the company did actually reach out to him, which i do think it’s.. a Choice, considering everything that happened with him…...

This one I don't really know. Umm..I don't have a lot of characters that I hate because of fandom. I don't generally let fandom influence my opinions like that. But I'm certain there are a few. There are probably more shows that I began to hate because of fandom rather than characters. Ummm...I'm just gonna say Porsche from KinnPorsche though I didn't really like him that much in the show either. But he would have been more tolerable to me without...whatever that was. One time I said he wasn't a good brother and people lost their shit. I stand by what I said about that.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

Maya from I Hear the Sunspot. I have already made many posts about Maya and I don't feel like getting into that again. I think she's a great character. Not a great person but she had wonderful growth. If you want more of my Maya thoughts, there are a couple of posts on my blog about it that I don't feel like digging up right now.

Why is every show giving me flashbacks to something that happened five seconds ago in the same damn episode? It's driving me crazy. I'm bored rewatching something I JUST watched and also it's lazy storytelling. Flashbacks can be good but lately they're being used as a crutch and in doing so the show is telling me that it doesn't trust it's storytelling enough for the audience to remember what happened 5 minutes ago. Viewers do not need everything spelled out for them. We are smarter than that.

I haven't seen a whole lot of complaints lately actually. I think I've done an excellent job of curating my online space. I guess the complaint I'm tired of seeing other people rightfully complain about is shipping actors. I don't care what people enjoy as a hobby. I don't care if they ship real people. What I care about is when that shipping culture goes from fandom spaces to real life spaces and actors have their privacy invaded and they're forced to see it. None of the people I follow ever do that but I see them talk about it and how bad irl shipping with pair branded actors gets and I love them forever for talking about it. Acting is a job and when they aren't on the clock, what they do and who they're with is none of our business and we need to keep it that way.

Glorestor or Glorfindel / Erestor of Middle Earth Fanon Fame. Not that I don't CARE about it anymore, mind you. There's just not enough new content (for obvious reasons god it's old and there's like one conversation of original source material). I don't think about them as much anymore. Like I used to be reading fanfic EVERY NIGHT and we're talking like novel length fanfics (as you can imagine people in the LOTR fandom write lol). Anyway here's some super old fan art... (>u<)

Oh god...something Dynasty Warriors related for sure...

Like the first one I wrote or read?? I went into my oldest of old "old writing" folders and found this list of docs that I haven't been touched in over ten years. SO I'm gonna saaaay it was a Dynasty Warriors fanfic...one of these pairings. (^ ^;)

Also kind of hilarious to see that I literally still organize my fanfic files in the same way for over half my fucking life ago...nice...

I feel like it would have been something Inuyasha related. That or something Final Fantasy X. I do not remember, but it was probably some version of these scene.

Not that I can remember...do not need this in my life...lol but maybe I've reblogged some RPF like discourse? Like the "should or shouldn't you ship" type discussions. I'm on the side of "do whatever you want but don't send it to the famous people" [ex. like ATEEZ fanfic/fanart] or "if they are literally doing it as part of their promo go ahead, it's for fun/they literally requested it as part of their promo" [ex. BillyBabe]. (^ ^;)

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?

It honestly always depends on the quality of the fanart or the fanfic because even a notp can turn into a OH!tp if it's good enough. [Exhibit a: my Phaya/Tharn/Chalothorn fanfic]

OH I haven't been traumatized by watched it yet, but Dead Friends Forever has made me get onboard with Macau/Chay of KinnPorsche fame because OMG LOOK AT THESE CUTIES!!!!

GOD I remember there was a LOT of Sesshomaru x Inuyasha yaoi when I was a kid LMFAO like...straight up cancelled...I dunno if it was normal back then but no yaoi was normal back then so like it sadly all got lumped together or something...then again looking at some of the comics that are coming out these days...

All the McFassy ships from back in the day like OMG REMEMBER JUNGKOV?? STELIOS AND LETO??? ARCHIE AND ROBBIE? SO MANY CROSSOVERS!!

toll and smol...i like me a toll and a smoll...lol or big and small...i dunno something something contrast something something just crush him and/or be uncharacteristically gentle or somehow incapacitate the larger man with your wiles...that is all...

Thai QL Favorites Tag Game

Favorite Thai QL: Moonlight Chicken had my heart from scene 1 and kept it the whole way through. Love stories mean the most to me when they are seated within a community, and when the central romance is inseparable from many other ties of love. The themes of home, of longing, of connection through fear and long-hardened anger -- the problems of family and class and queer struggle and love not returned -- the continual presence of ritual in all its forms, from holidays to prayer to the simple sharing of a meal -- everything in this show speaks directly and intimately to my heart.

Favorite pairing: I have a handful of favorites, but I'm going to go with First and Khaotung. They are both fantastic performers who have elevated every role they've played for years, and together they're absolutely magnetic. I love their versatility, individually and together, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Most underrated actor: I'm going to go here with someone whose performance always impresses me, but who doesn't get nearly the attention she deserves: View Benyapa. She is always compelling. Her characters have weight and vitality however minor they are, and she does the very tricky job of making a side character dynamic and interesting without pulling focus from the mains. (Khaotung also excels at this, but thankfully he's no longer underrated.) I'm excited to see her in 23.5 and I hope to get to enjoy her in more and bigger roles in the future.

Favorite main character: Oh this one is difficult! I love so many, for so many different reasons. If I must choose one, I think it's Inthawut from 180 Degrees. I understand so deeply his fear and his guilt, and I ache for him.

Favorite side character: Somehow even more difficult! I'm going to say Tankhun of Kinnporsche. It's easy to see him as little more than high camp comic relief, and I'm pretty sure he wants it that way. If you see him reading the room, sending signals, and generally displaying sharp, competent insight, no you didn't.

Favorite scene in a QL: The Bad Buddy ep 5 rooftop scene is perfect.

Favorite line in a QL: "Because I'm hungry." Three plain, ordinary words that perfectly express the heart of a complicated, painful relationship. My jaw dropped when that line was spoken, and it bounced around in my brain for weeks afterward.

Most anticipated QL: As much as I'm dreading the surrounding discourse... gotta be Only Friends.

Healthiest relationship: I don't like this question, may I have another? I have a whole slew of problems with the way "healthy relationship" is used in fandom (see also: "green flag") - like the way health is presumed to be a single measurable quality, and conflated with virtue. There's a place for using fiction to talk about how we want to behave or be treated in relationships, but more often I feel like people are using these for the satisfaction of occupying a moral judgement seat, and I'm not here for that. Let me say instead...

Relationship dynamic I would most like to have myself: Cake and Seeiw of My Only 12%. I love how absolute and unquestioned their love for each other is - the only issue is what kind of love, and that gets resolved pretty much as soon as it's raised openly. I love the intimacy they have from knowing each other their whole lives, and the easy way they fill one another's gaps.

Relationship dynamic I would least like to have myself: Yi and Kon-diao of Cutie Pie. I enjoy Cutie Pie immensely, and I'm looking forward to Naughty Babe, but ye gods do I not want what these boys have.

Guilty pleasure series: After my whole rant about "healthy relationship," guess how I feel about "guilty pleasure"?

Most underrated series: I did this one scientifically... I looked to see which of my favorite shows has the lowest rating and view count on MDL. The winner is Ghost Host, Ghost House, which definitely deserves more love.

-not really obsessed, but I'd have to say Nick/Maddie from PR: Mystic Force. I really liked their dynamic and tbh, it was that couple that introduced me to fanfics because I went googling for info on Melanie and Firass

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

-oh that's an easy one: Tommy/Kim. The moment I saw them on screen, I started shipping them before I even knew what shipping was. They were my OTP before I even knew what that was. Even at that young age, I was taken in by their chemistry, their understanding and acceptance of each other, the slow build up of their relationship...just...their everything. Honestly, it was because of this ship that i could not get into Disney fairytales because they did more to convince me of true love than any Disney movie ever did.

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?

-Tommy/Kimberly. After I learned what fanfic was from searching Maddie/Nick...I stumbled upon a Tommy/Trini story and it didn't sit right with me lol. I kept thinking "Tommy and Kim are meant to be" and then I started writing a story about them. Took my weeks, after I'd written the first seven chapters, to work up my courage to actually post that first chapter.

-more than likely Nick and Maddie.

-uhm....I mean, not really? I've responded to one or two anon posts or even made a post or two about a ship but actual discourse? I usually have those discussions with my friend

-yes. I'm pissed they broke Kim and Tommy (rumor was, the letter wasn't even the original storyline but they did it because they wanted the fans to let go of Kimberly and accept Kat); Sheith (they had the best chemistry and the show kept drawing parallels between them and other couples on the show, including Keith's own parents); Zutara (they just made sense and I think Katara would've really blossomed even more because Zuko never would've stifled her or encourage to forego her own culture); Drarry (sure as shit, if one of them was female, it would've happen, so I don't see why it couldn't happen anyways. Plus, I feel they would've understood and balanced each other a lot better than their Canon couples).

-a bully/victim dynamic that is labeled as enemies-to-lovers; when a miscommunication happens and the person immediately runs away/avoids the other without giving them a chance to explain, which leads into the miscommunication going on for more than 2-3 chapters (even worse when it's a 15 chapter story and the miscommunication happened in like ch 2 and you're on ch 12 and it...is...still...going on)

I feel like I am watching everything BL that has been out but do you think there is a show that is not being talked about as much?

Oh, for sure. There are always shows that go relatively under the radar. In bl, there’s a clear hierarchy for what gets most eyeballs, discussion, and attention on tumblr, and a lot of it has to do with platforms and their different levels of international access. Basically:

Anything on YouTube for free, and especially on the GMMTV channel, gets outsized attention, whether it’s good or not. @bengiyo was not wrong when he called GMMTV the Disney of bl. This is where most Thai bl lives and why it tends to dominate discourse.

Shows on Viki or Gaga are next in line, as these platforms are fairly accessible and cheap. This is where most Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese bl lives. There’s a steep drop off in engagement on here for these compared to YT shows, but they still get some attention and occasionally one will break through and become hella popular (like The Eighth Sense or Old Fashion Cupcake).

Anything on iQIYI only gets even fewer eyeballs, because you gotta pay for this one and it actually has a terrible UI. It’s extra frustrating because a lot of shows are going here now and people are just not seeing them. Kinnporsche is an example of an iQIYI show that managed to go viral despite this constraint, but it’s a mega outlier.

Everything else in the great grey beyond. There are still bls produced that get no international distribution at all, though this is thankfully becoming less common. One of my great frustrations about I Feel You Linger in the Air is that it’s not actually available in a lot of places internationally, and this is keeping its audience small despite it being one of the best things airing right now. You need a VPN and a can do attitude to make it work, and with so much content folks just aren’t inspired to hunt down the shows that aren’t coming to them.

In addition to IFYL, recent shows that come to mind as flying relatively under the radar despite being top tier include La Pluie, Sing My Crush, Wedding Plan, and Love in Translation. There’s also a jbl airing right now called I Cannot Reach You that is unfortunately inaccessible to the international audience; I’m eagerly awaiting a distribution deal for it soon.

Some BL babies under the Playboyy trailers: "But can the actors ever face their parents again?" and "BL is doing too much now"

I don't even know where to begin with this. Like literally porn actors and / A(dult)V(ideo) idols exist and they still have good relationships with their parents and friends. Some parents are totally fine with their GROWNUP kids to go into the adult industry. SOME (grownup!) "kids" may not even care for their parents opinion. Gown up people should not have to ask their parents for permission to act in certain media. Sex scenes acting and even literal (modern) porn and sex work gets treated professionally within their industries. So why can't the rest of the world treat it rather with respect?

And the Playboyy actors are not even porn actors (I think. but wouldn't matter if they were) but 'normal' actors who just play pretend sex scenes. Literally most of hollywood and Cos actors have sex scenes that are on the same level of graphicness as they are in Playboyy (like Game of Thrones????). They still all show their faces in public and infront of their family.

Some people are simply not that prude and shy. It's that easy 🤷‍♂️

And some parents may be totally fine with the stuff their kids do, but simply don't watch it or skip it if it's too awkward. I think that's more common actually.

ALSO it annoys (and secondhand embarrasses) me so much that so many BL babies act like Playboyy is the first and only explicit gay themed drama ever existing on this planet. Not even in the box of the BL genre are they the first (maybe only for the thai corner... but even there it is not much more explicit than KinnPorsche and Love in the Air so far, it's just more scenes all together due to the plot setting). But meanwhile the whole LGBTq film industry all around the world is that explicit too. Some more, some less. The ones that are tame are made for a rather general audiences, younger audiences or to appeal to cis-straight audiences even. But a lot of LGBTq stuff is explicit like that. So that's not new?

The LGBTq movies and series I have seen in all my life are wild. Also not always wholesome, nor 'perfect representation' either (a lot of gay movies are kink fantasies or trauma themed, some of them are so much darker than any 'toxic' BL but yea... ). So idk what this annoying discourse around BL and good representation is supposed to be in that context. That ALWAYS sounds to me like "but we have to make this queer content in a way that the homophobes and queerphobes can watch it by accident without finding us weird and disgusting"...

And regarding Playboyy I don't even know if that's supposed to be BL aka if it's supposed to please the general BL audiences or if it's not rather purely from and for LGBTq folks (+allies) in and outside of the BL genre bubble. But as I said before already, the genre borders are melting at some projects anyways to the point that it's hard to find the differentiating factors (for BL I would say the only fixed point is that it has the romance (romantic fantasies) genre at it's core, anything else is optional). I feel like a lot of people assume that BL has to be for teenager's. Meanwhile not even the origins (manga) and the source material (usually web comics and novels) of today are all for teens. That genre is diverse and for ALL audiences of ALL ages. And it's GOOD that more parts of the audiences can get their own niche content now! Like I for example am originally not that much into sappy romance and marriage plots but I still watch it since it's with characters I can identify with more than the heteronormative & gendernormative stuff from the west (I also learned a thing or two maybe, like the fact that I may like sappy romance plots sometimes after all).

Anyways, Rule of thumb for anything in general: If you don't like it, then it is not made for you. So stop complaining about stuff that is for others* 🤷‍♂️

(*unless it's proven to be harmful or disrespectful, as in the tone of the whole story, not the action of characters that are supposed to be dumb sometimes.)

The last Thai queer content that I remember actively seeking out was Grey Rainbow (i know) when it came out and the classic GL that is Yes or No (i love that thing sue me), and boy have things HAPPENED

Obviously, I have been aware of the explosion of shows and movies coming from Thailand, I don't completely live under a rock, but I wasn't really keeping tabs on the content or form, which is why my foray into Kinnporsche particularly slapped me across the face with its production value, actors' chemistry, and genre

I mean, it is largely a vehicle for handsome man ogling (nothing wrong with that!!! It is a hobby of mine as well), but there still was a palpable sense of care for the characters and effort put into making something exciting and dynamic that I somehow did not expect (shame on me tbh)

I am now joining the Only Friends hype train after seeing the first episode and looking into Jojo Tichakorn, who seems absolutely delightful as a twitter user and insightful as a writer/director

I am also intrigued about it on account of the conversation around it not really being bl in the sense that it doesn't adhere to tropes and chooses to focus on the messiness of queer 20-something life?? I don't know the basis of this discourse, but I'd like to find out!

listen, MLC is like, the best thing i've watched in a while and alangaipa gave me what i had been craving since yohan/moogyeong c. 2019 : a small rare/ghost ship with barely any screentime but that hooked people in worldwide. firstkhao's acting was just bonus. alangaipa represent everything that i want from my own life. i couldn't not love them.
