I’m always thinking about how Quinn says her favourite Ghostface was Stu and how her brothers, who are the people she loves most in the world, have arguably the most Stu parallels out of anyone in the new trilogy (dare I say the franchise)
I’m NEVER not thinking about Richie + Stu parallels. It’s well documented that during my first watch of Scream 5 in theatres I really thought he was gonna be revealed as Stu’s son because the very pointed Stu mentions from Ghostface (“there were two killers in the original Stab, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher”) seemed very indicative of someone wanting to protect Stu’s legacy but 🤷
but anyway. Richie pulling the “I’ll be right back” bit with Randy’s niece in the requel’s recreation of the scene, attacking her in the “behind you” scene like Stu did, the voice changer reveal, and just his silly goofy guy act in the beginning acts (I made an edit a while ago with more cinematically-framed parallels that I still am so proud of catching these clips they way I did)
And of course Ethan! Him somehow miraculously outliving his Ghostface partners despite his circumstances (knife deepthroat lmao) seemingly dooming him early is similar to how, despite being cut too deep and bleeding out hard and fast, Stu (kinda) outlives Billy. How they both WILDLY confess they were attracted to the lead girl they’re basically hunting down and proceeding to get killed by the same TV.
Like. Quinn definitely didn’t adore Stu as a Ghostface/character because she saw her brothers in him, but the irony of it is so interesting.

"The Kirsches'/Baileys' motive was just a ripoff of Nancy's motive!"
And Jillian's motive was just a ripoff of Mickey's, except she didn't want to get caught! But it was still a fame whore motive... just like Mickey's. 👀

You know what i really like about the new scream trilogy?
It’s how Richie ( I love this dude) feels like an overarching antagonist.

Do you have headcanons for Richie and Quinn? I never see anyone talk about kirschcest with them and it’s literally rotting my brain
YES actually!!! i lowkey damn near have whole separate lore for them atp thanks to threading/discussing kirschcest w my bestie sm LMAO like tl;dr: richie was moving like a creep and quinn is unfortunately delusional (affectionate for both of them). but i do love their dynamic that exists like. in (2) brains and (1) discord rp server max so there r plenty of thoughts to speak on!
fair warning in that it’s like, pretty dark/dead dovey and also for sure NSFT bc they were moving freaky. but then again i feel like that’s kind of a given bc of the subject. anyways, off the top of my head: grooming, dubcon (depending on how you look at it), the age difference ig?, and obviously sibling incest! also i guess for richie kinda being the worst, but 1) nothing new and 2) i honestly don't even mean it to bash him. he is an absolute menace... and that is, like, one of his best qualities to me. the kirsch siblings are for the freaks fr!
also turned out way longer than i anticipated, oops?
more serious lore
so just right out the gate—i do think richie groomed quinn. normally, i would say he can’t groom his way out of a paper bag (considering he got manipulated by a whole other teenage girl, but i digress) but i think this is the one exception. like, quinn is his little sister, so... no doubt he had a home advantage here.
that interpretation just makes sense to me for a variety of reasons. the most obvious being that he is her older brother by 7~ years (if my math is right and going off his age in the 5cream script, had richie lived he'd be 26 while the twins were 19).
of both her brothers, richie is likely who quinn considered herself closest to growing up. i do have a whole other set of thoughts on the twins, but that'd be for another post. given that richie had a sort of 'protector' role in quinn's life, she would've looked up to him as the 'cool older brother' and clung to him.
like, literally following him around and trying to get into anything he liked to impress him. no doubt, she rewatched stab (and richie's various fan films) a million times just for his sake. also probably weaseled her way into being involved in a couple of said fan films.
their relationship would've taken a turn when quinn was in her early teens, probably 14-15 which would put richie at 21-22. i do think quinn was always more of a 'social butterfly' type, so she would've had some experience by then. a handful of 'boyfriends' from school, some more handsy than others, but nothing too serious.
richie's interest in her in a physical sense would've mostly just been due to her developing. that and we know he is very normal about teenage girls! i don't think he saw her too differently from any other girl he could ogle.
aside from that, her utter trust/love for richie would've made quinn seem, in his eyes, like an easy target to manipulate. she idolized him, she'd be eager to please him, and she wouldn't think that he would intentionally do her wrong. which… well! 😬
it would've been less 'overt' at first. like, it wouldn't have been unusual as is for them to spend time just the two of them or be physically affectionate. and so if he was all over her or 'accidentally' feeling her up, she wouldn't have been one to second guess and call him on it. it would've been confusing, but not glaringly wrong to her. and eventually she just got sort of 'used' to it, which allowed him to push things further.
clearly eyeing her up, making passes at her when it was just the two of them, making a whole show of getting himself off when he knew for certain she'd be around to hear it. progressively just getting more and more obvious bc at that point, he'd know she wasn't gonna snitch on him or fuss about it. until he could just outright make things sexual between them.
richie was most definitely quinn's 'first time'. part of why she feels so intensely about him, aside from their pre-existing sibling relationship (+ grief after his death), is because he was essentially quinn's first love/first 'real' love.
bc of that + how young she would've been, a lot of her notions of sexuality are just based on whatever he'd managed to convince her of. particularly, she places a lot of weight on her own performance in that regard because there would've been such a focus on her learning to do things exactly as he wanted them. and, yeah, her pre-existing need for richie's approval would've extended into her wanting him to think she's a 10/10 lay!
i think this whole aspect of their relationship was, to richie, basically just a fwb... siblings with benefits? type deal. he did care for her as a sister, did enjoy sleeping with her, but the romantic feelings weren't requited. he knew they were there on her end, but outside of using that for his own ends, he really was not trying to get into it. he did love her, but not like that and he wasn't opening that can of worms if he could help it. quinn was most definitely in love with him, though! if she had played favorites with her brothers before, it only got worse post-grooming.
i think there was some level of 'meeting in the middle' between the two of them. as in, richie had no issues playing the part of pseudo-boyfriend for quinn as long as they were still banging. he'd be affectionate w her, let her do the 'boyfriend shirt' thing with his flannels and hold his hand around the house, etc. and quinn was trying to seem way more casual about it than she actually felt so as to come off as being just as 'mature' as she thought richie to be instead of a clingy kid... bc she was a clingy kid. 😭
their 'relationship' was still ongoing by the time richie died, though obvi they wouldn't have been as intimate as frequently with richie living all the way in modesto. basically, whenever he'd visit, with just so much sexting in between to fill the gaps. given the whole ghostface plot, richie was probably spotty with the effort he made to keep up with his family. he was still making some effort to keep in touch, but quinn would reach out to him more consistently than the other way around. pre-richie's death, quinn probably gave some serious thought to applying for colleges out by him just so that she could move closer.
a lot of quinn's hypersexualized behavior is a mix of both the effects of richie grooming her and coming from a place of grief. they were def going at it fairly regularly when richie was still around, so it's sort of the 'next best thing', and a temporary distraction. it doesn't exactly do much for her, though. pretty much giving this (god excuse the watermark LMAO).
losing richie was like two separate losses in one go. i joke a lot abt quinn acting like a grieving widow during act 3 but to her, she basically was! because richie was both her brother and her lover; she thought they were soulmated up! so, there's a lot of vastly different, confusing layers to that grief.
even given all the time passed between when things first shifted between them to where she's at in vi, quinn does not think that richie did anything wrong wrt all that happened with her. and she has no intentions of pondering that any further and hurting her own feelings/her memory of richie. fully still his ride or die fr.
sillier & goofier richiequinn thoughts
richie most likely did not think much of any other guys quinn was involved with. as long as they weren't impeding on his own time with her (she'd cancel plans with anyone for his sake, so that would've been next to impossible). quinn, however... she most definitely hated every last one of richie's girlfriends upon meeting them. like, she'd be incredibly petty towards them from the get-go, make a big deal out of how close she and richie were to maintain that she would always be the most important girl in his life. though richie's hardly a prize, he was to her and she didn't think any other girl (obvi, besides herself) was good enough for her big brother!
hence, i don't think quinn knew about richie & amber. she probably would've found out had they survived the massacre, but she also still wouldn't have been too happy—she'd see it as richie dating an almost 'knockoff' of her minus the blood relation. i do think she knew about him & sam, though, but he clearly never so much as told sam he even had siblings, so they did not meet while richie was still alive. she would've liked sam about as much as she actually did in vi (which is to say, not at all lmao) if they'd met beforehand, though.
when richie was still living at home/whenever he'd come around, they were definitely not as subtle about it as they thought they were. yeah, she's sitting on richie's lap during family game night and sharing a bed with him on vacation... take it up with god! handjobs under the dining room table kinda stuff, so on and so forth. richie being the 'golden boy' of the family + wayne's line of work keeping him busy more often than not was doing wonders for their ability to get away with it, basically. (i do also HC their parents as divorced, and their mom being decent but not as involved with them otherwise—hence why she was not doing/saying anything either!)
they were 100% flirting in the kirsch family imessage groupchat and their dad basically just had to move like this. once again they were also def not subtle about it either.
non-zero chance that they've got a sex tape on one of richie's cameras, even more of a chance that he may or may not have whipped out a ghostface robe for that one. quinn would find it deeply unserious, but like hell if she wasn't going to indulge him as always.
being able to pull off all he did with quinn is probably what gave richie all the (excessive for how much he actually was doing, i fear...) confidence he was walking around with in 5cream, wrt how he was moving with sam in act 3 and him convincing himself he was the mastermind between him and amber. i just know she made him feel so smooth and charming and positively genius. insane ego boost from years worth of screwing around with his little sister atp. she'd most definitely argue that he is all of those things, too- because of course, she would.

"Ethan had daddy's issues" this "Ethan had daddy's issues" that. There is literally no proof of that. 🙄 From what we've been shown and told, the family loved each other and had good relationships. (I've talked about this ad nauseam, I won't say it again; just searched through my rant or kirsch family tags.)
You know what issues he did seem to have? MOMMY ISSUES. A Scream franchise staple.

so how do you think things would go in 6 if amber got away with being ghostface, say ritchie shot liv and amber never revealed herself and he died before he could reveal his partner. does his family know about amber, does she specifically get targeted alongside sam. how does tara react when she learns that amber was the one that attacked her last year
oh. OH this would be a treat.
i'm gonna put this under the cut because i'm pretty sure i'm gonna talk a lot.
amber getting away would play really well into the whole "she's the real mastermind" thing the directors had said in an interview before. the idea that she didn't really love richie but saw him as a means to an end, in this case, the creation of her perfect stab 8 script.
she wasn't stupid. she knew his plan of framing sam carpenter for the murders would probably not work; and, quite frankly, the idea of having the daughter of the original serial killer as an unexpected hero was as enticing as having her as the killer. so, when things got rough, she betrayed him.
when he shot liv, amber sprung into action, throwing her body on top of his as she held his arm up. surprised eyes stared back at her as she smirked, kicking between his legs so he would kneel on the ground in front of her. tara, in all of her bravery, assisted her in holding his arm, while amber did her best to pull the gun from his grip; richie shot her shoulder, right then, hearing her groan in pain as she falls back beside mindy's unconscious body.
he's the one who ties tara and hides her in the closet, expecting amber to follow up with the plan. they didn't talk about her outwardly attacking him, but she was supposed to reveal herself later, so he figured she was just playing her part as a survivor. richie's also the one who tries to trick sidney and gale when they arrive, but, not only does he fail, but he misses the shot that would hit gale before he walks back in.
he also expects amber to make sidney's phone call, one that never comes, and sam stabs him in the back with a knife before he can shoot sidney or gale as they walk in. they fight, him shooting her in the abdomen twice as she falls to the ground.
before he can finish her off, tara hits him with one of her crutches, having been untied by amber while the fight erupted in the entrance. sam gets on top of him, throwing the gun away before she stabs him 22 times and slits his throat just the same.
amber is taken away in an ambulance, her eyes closed, hand over the wound that was bleeding out. she's filled with pride and joy as she's taken to the hospital, knowing she got everything she wanted and more.
true to her word, she sells a stab 8 remake script written by her, anonymously, as soon as gale weathers publishes her book about the 2022 murders. the movie is announced six months later.
scream 6 plays similarly, as well, only with amber filling the place as tara's love interest where chad is in the original movie. i'd like to think they would be back to their constant dancing around each other, tara not confessing out of fear of losing amber. she moves in with them in new york, sharing an apartment with tara, sam and, eventually, quinn.
she didn't know the rest of the kirsch family— they didn't really talk about these stuff, too busy obsessing over their plan for six months to even think about the future he thought they would have. quinn did know about amber, though, having found their texts plotting the woodsboro killings back when the family received richie's personal belongings after his death.
it filled the family with rage, seeing her walk away with it while he was dead. and when quinn accidentally walked into amber almost kissing tara, the girl who she once planned to murder, after the halloween party, she felt furious.
sam was still their primary target, of course – she was the one who ultimately killed richie, and did so in such a brutal, humiliating way. but, after telling her father and brother about who amber was, and what she'd done, it was obvious she had to go down, as well.
but to simply kill her would be one thing; they had to crush her completely, starting by ruining everything she seems to have done her best to build.
it starts by injuring her when they get to the abandoned theatre. amber and tara finally share their first kiss, so lost in their own universe they don't notice the hooded presence behind tara, not until she is stabbed in the back.
the other ghostface is quick to do the same to amber, slicing her shoulder, letting out a chuckle as the raven haired girl screams and immediately turns to throw a punch at them. sam and chad appear to the rescue right when amber is stabbed on her side; chad pushes ghostface away from her, and is still stabbed multiple times while amber and sam hold tara — who's yelling chad's name, sobbing, as she watches her friend get murdered right in front of her.
amber is exposed when they're back inside, the three ghostfaces staring back at them as they reveal themselves. just like in the original one, dialogue starts when quinn takes off her mask, revealing herself as the third killer. "hey roomies, didn't see that one coming, did you?"
"yeah, because you died!" tara exclaims, eyes wide, staring at quinn like she's looking at a ghost. amber places a hand on her hip, pulling her back.
"kinda didn't, though," quinn raises her eyebrows, looking at her father for a brief moment before continuing. "it was a good way to get off the suspect list. stab gale weathers, stab mindy on the train... that sort of thing."
"and just i made sure that i was first on the scene, so i could switch her body up with a fresh one." detective bailey says, squeezing his children's shoulders as to signal them to continue with what they had orchestrated. "a little fake blood, a prosthetic... you'd be amazed in what a grieving father can get away with."
"though, we aren't the only experts at getting away with stuff here!" ethan giggles, walking to nancy loomis' mannequin so he can place her mask in its place. "isn't that right, amber?"
sam and tara immediately turn to look at her.
"what the fuck are you talking about?"
wayne rolls his eyes, pointing the gun at her as she takes a step towards him. "oh, please, your little act would never last. in one way or another, the past would come right. back. at you."
amber looks to her sides, clenching her fists, noticing how sam is immediately taking a few steps away from her, in tara's direction. tara is still stuck in place, frowning, her eyes searching for the truth in amber's expressions.
a sound draws their attention away from the girl.
projected on the curtains, there plays a video where richie kirsch is seen lying against a hotel bed, his hair wet from the shower and an arm positioned behind his head. he seems to be laughing at something, and when he turns the camera to record the something in question, a hooded figure is there, cloak and knife in hands as they turn around to show off their costume.
how do i look, honey?
amber's voice fills the speakers, making both of the carpenter sisters look at her with wide eyes.
you look amazing, baby. and you'll look even better with tara carpenter's blood all over your mask.
amber's eyes are glued to the screen, lips pursed, a scowl ever present as she watches the clip. she doesn't feel fear or guilt, but a secret third thing; this unexplainable shame at getting caught, of having what is definitely her biggest, darkest secret exposed to those that mattered the most.
this is when tara also backs up, feeling sam pull her by the wrist so she can position herself in front of her younger sister. while tara's eyes fill with tears, sam's are of pure rage, looking at amber as if she's the worst thing she has ever seen.
as tara realizes what it all means, all of her breath is pulled away from her throat and she's clawing her chest, her other hand holding on to sam as she lets out a painful sob. it feels like a knife to her chest, carving her up, writing amber and killer on her heart before it rips it in tiny pieces.
"tara, i-"
"stay the fuck back, freeman!" sam growls, gritted teeth and furious eyes all but demanding her to not come closer. she tightens her grip on tara and takes another step back, feeling tara's shaky grip on her faltering.
"a-amber, how- how could- you.. you are.." tara whispers in between sobs, big doe eyes staring back at amber's seemingly empty ones.
"tara, i'm not the same person i was a year ago. i changed. i chose you, i chose to stay with you and-"
"oh please, amber, you never chose anyone but yourself, you can't expect people to fall for the same little tricks you pull over and over again. you're a selfish cunt who manipulates people into getting what you want, only to discard them when they're not useful to you." ethan scoffs, rolling his eyes as he interupts amber's scene.
"this isn't true! tara, please, believe me, i-"
sam clenches her fists, wide eyes staring into amber's as she all but growls once again. "freeman, if you don't shut the fuck up i will cut you into pieces-"
"there she is," quinn taunts, eyebrows raised, slowly walking towards sam and tara with her knife pointed at the oldest carpenter. the tip of her knife traces sam's chest, and she is stuck in the spot, hearing tara's shaky breath behind her as her grip on sam's hand tightens. "there's the fucking killer."
"wh- a kil- look, i don't know what you believe, but i didn't commit those murders in woodsboro, it wasn't me!" sam angrily spits out, face inches way from quinn's as she looks at her straight in the eyes.
"oh we know that, of course you didn't- what, you think this is based on some bullshit conspiracy theory? come on, who do you think that started the rumours about you in the first place?" bailey exclaims, pointing at quinn with his head, his daughter smirking as she waves with her free hand.
"because it's not enough to just kill someone these days. you have to assassinate their character first." ethan approaches them, pulling amber towards him as he places his knife in front of her throat. "so when dad here 'discovers' your horribly mutilated bodies, posed with sam wearing her father's mask and amber wearing hers? they'll say some poor, dumb bastard read on the internet that you were the real ghostfaces and took matter into their own deluded hands."
"exactly! that's why it's the perfect alibi! and all the best lies are based on the truth. you," bailey points at amber, then at sam, "and you, are both killers. just like your father, samantha."
"no i'm not!"
"yes you are, you motherfucker, you killed our brother!"
"you... you're richie's family?" amber says, struggling against ethan's hold as the knife sits on her throat, threatening to sink into it with every movement.
bailey was right. the past did come to get her. and there was little she could do to stop it.

I think one of the most frustrating things about the scream vi killers is that they had so much potential to be something new and different but then just fell short at the reveal and became Nancy Loomis clones :(
When I have time I honestly wanna create a whole rewrite concept for the Baileys bc I have like so many ideas for how their motive could have been more interesting 😭😭

random thoughts about the Kirsches because I'm obsessed with them -
I've seen the headcanons that Wayne is abusive to Ethan, I guess based on that one line about how Wayne had a special bond with his first son (Richie) but I fully reject that because it's literally not based on anything canon. Also, Ethan & Quinn both showed strong loyalty & love toward their dad as adults. There's absolutely no indication of bitterness between them & I just don't see the point of making that up when the entire thing that makes the Kirsches intriguing is their bond as a family.
I've also seen the rumors/leaks that there was at one point a reference to Wayne, Ethan & Quinn killing Mrs. Kirsch but I also fully reject that because if it doesn't make it into the final cut of the movie it's not canon & that is a HUGE plot point to just not dive into which is probably why it got cut.
I think that Wayne was a really hardworking & caring single father because to me that's what was heavily implied by the bond between Wayne, Ethan, & Quinn that we saw. They were OBVIOUSLY an extremely close family - like, codependently intensely close. We don't have canon ages for Ethan & Quinn so I love the headcanon that they were twins. Richie seems to be 2-3 years older than them & I bet they both totally looked up to & hero worshipped Richie. I feel like Richie & Quinn jokingly bullied & teased Ethan a lot but it was all in good fun, IDK Ethan just has the vibes of the sibling that gets lovingly bullied lmao
I honestly think the Kirsch's were pretty normal before Richie went down the path that he went down which makes their story way more tragic. Wayne, Quinn, & Ethan were obviously unhinged BUT they were driven to that by grief. Richie got sucked in by toxic Reddit fandom & there's no help for that but I feel like Wayne, Ethan, & Quinn were normal just maybe a LITTLE abnormally intensely close as a family until they lost Richie & it drove them insane.
I like the idea that the siblings were all extra overprotective of each other growing up & probably got into fights at school to protect each other. No one talks shit to any of them or the other two WILL knock your teeth out. This is practically canon because the main thing we know about the Kirsch siblings is that they invented being ride-or-die siblings.
I imagine that Quinn & Ethan watched their father losing sleep, getting bags under his eyes, & losing weight & meanwhile they're mourning their big brother that they loved more than anything too. I understand that Wayne is pushed as the mastermind in the fandom from what I've seen but I actually can see Quinn as the first to bring up revenge. She seems very calculated & I can see her as the one to decide this is wrong & something must be done. Maybe Quins brings it up to Ethan first & they talk it through & bring it to their dad together & Wayne is at a breaking point & he agrees & they all plot together from there.
anyway, there's nothing I love more than a toxic evil fucked-up family that is all for now <3
