Right after work I booked it over to EastHonoluluFoodFestival. The boys were working an event and ur just there vibing with them. Enjoyed the all you can eat and drink specials while they went back2back with the music.

These were the highlights of my night. So good 😮‍💨
P.s. I’m typing this on 22 hrs no sleep 😵‍💫

I went with the blonde ale, and it's pretty decent. I'm not sure it's really as refreshing as a golden island moment, but I'm a desert boy so maybe I just don't get the island angle.

We left the Hilton before dawn to head to the Kona airport, and we were treated to a beautiful rainbow, our first on the trip, as we traveled down HI-19. 
The sun was fully up and blazing by the time we arrived at the airport, and I was glad that we gave ourselves enough time to get to the airport so we could walk around a little. While it’s not big, the terminal where the Southwest flights leave from is definitely more deserted in the morning and I had resigned myself to not getting a meal before we boarded the aircraft. Fortunately, walking over to the other terminal was extremely straightforward, and we were able to enjoy a nice little breakfast of a bacon-egg-cheese sandwich and one last Kua Bay IPA. The restaurant was one of the few places that was fully-enclosed in the airport, and it was one of the more pleasant airport restaurant experiences I’ve ever had as it was incredibly low stakes and then we were able to walk back over to our terminal, get our bags scanned (though I was bummed there were no stickers like you get in Puerto Rico), and get on the plane. 
This was definitely a singular and memorable experience; I’m so grateful to have been able to experience it, and it was an amazing way to kick off 2024 travel.

Our first proper meal in Hawaii! We were staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, and while the resort has a number of on-site restaurants, the only one we ever ate at was the Kona Tap Room right off the main lobby. Obviously we were expecting high prices given where we were, but the portions were at least generous for what they considered small plates and the food pretty tasty. The ahi poke nachos were a personal highlight, as I came into this trip with the intention of eating as much poke as possible while we were here, and this was a solid start. 
The main highlight, however, was the beer selection. Being familiar with Kona Brewing’s Big Wave Golden Ale, I was excited to try their IPAs, and the super-hoppy Kua Bay IPA was my personal favorite during our entire stay. (Clearly I’m not the only one, as it was seemingly everywhere we went.) The Castaway IPA was another highlight, while my husband tried the Hula Hefeweizen, the Hanalei IPA, and the Lavaman Red Ale but would come back to the Big Wave time and time again.
I’m glad I did my research ahead of time and found some places off-property that were an easy distance from the resort, as we were then able to try more local dishes and not fall into the lure of buying $36 dollar cheese pizzas (no, really).

What’s Hawaiian coffee got that other coffees don’t?
When it comes to producing coffee, there’s no dearth of land to get the job done. Coffee is currently grown in close to 80 countries across Africa, Asia, South and Central America and the Caribbean. When it comes to flavor however, not many geographies match up to the magic of one particular slice of land. Hawaii. Ideal Temperature

The trouble with higher temperatures is, they usually lead to abnormal coffee flowering and poor fruiting. High-elevation coffee regions like Hawaii however, have an average temperature of 69 degrees (Fahrenheit) which inspires coffee plants to do what they’re destined to do. Grow, blossom and create the world’s most delectable coffees. 
 Well-spread Rainfall
Heavy rains may not wash away the color of your home but it sure can play havoc with the flavor of a coffee bean. The optimal rainfall condition in Hawaii keeps the flavor of coffee beans from being washed away which explains why they taste sweeter and better than other coffees. Also, the rain here is both abundant and uniformly distributed, which is favorable for coffee plantations to flower and fruit throughout the year.  
Quality Management
The hand that nurtures a coffee plant controls the quality of the resulting bean. Hawaiian coffee producers spare no efforts in terms of resources, techniques and processes to make sure their farms give out nothing less than the world’s finest coffees.

On our way back from the beach on Kona today, I just happened to see this brewery and remembered something. My husband probably thought, now she's totally lost it, when I shouted, "open the window, I want to take a picture".

I remembered seeing a photo of Sam at a party at the Kona Brewing Co. a few years ago.
The thing is, if I now post this photo on Instagram and tag Sam, because he also has a connection to this brewery, it UNFORTUNATELY doesn't mean that I met him there in person - a tag is just a tag, nothing more, nothing less.

Ethan sat at his desk, carefully removing the cup of coffee Tobias brought him from the crumbled brown paper bag. Carefully removing the lid, he examined the contents as he slowly stirred. He was about to lift the bitter brew to his nose for a whiff when he spotted his friend staring at him with a mocking glare.
“Can I help you?” Ethan barked.
Tobias chuckled and reclined further back in his seat. He crossed his legs casually; his signature smirk adorned his lips as he made a show of taking an exaggerated gulp of his brew.
“You see, my friend, that’s how you’re supposed to drink coffee. Not this nonsense you have going on. What is this sniffing crap? It’s a paper cup, not a brandy snifter!”
“Mock if you will! But if you expect me to determine if this swill is the equivalent of Derry’s, it will take more than scoffing it down like an animal to make that determination.”
“Oh, come on, Ethan,” he laughed. “Just take a sip. Knowing you, you’ll dismiss it as… what was it, swill… instantly, then you can spare us both the rest of this pretentious little show. Unless… you’re worried that I’m right and this place is better than your beloved Derry’s.”
“Doubtful,” Ethan scoffed.
“Then drink the damn thing. It’s getting cold. It’s quality coffee. Not only quality coffee, free quality coffee, thanks to me!”
“Hmm… in that case, I should be inspecting to see if it's been laced with a laxative.”
“For crying out loud, Ethan, I’m not going to do that. Maybe five years ago, if you had an important meeting or date to get to, sure, I may have considered it, but not now… Nah.”
Ethan twisted his lips in disgust. He wasn’t certain if his best friend again was serious, not that it really mattered. What did matter was not letting Tobias one-up him in the coffee stakes.
Tobias rolled his eyes as Ethan stubbornly rose the cup to his nose and inhaled. He couldn’t hide his shock. It was a lovely, aromatic blend. Further, Kaycee had already been to the new shop with Tobias, and she reported that the coffee was indeed top-notch. But did she think it was better than Derry’s?
“For the love of all that is holy, Ramsey. Would you drink the damn coffee?”
Ethan took the cup to his lips, his brow raised at the first sip… it wasn’t bad. He took another, longer drink, and he closed his eyes. Shutting out all distractions… especially Tobias… so he could properly enjoy the experience as the flavorful liquid warmed him. When he opened his eyes, his best friend stared at him with a shit-eating grin.
“I’ve seen that smile before! So, at least as good as Derry’s, eh?” he smiled.
“We’re late for our meeting,” Ethan deflected and walked toward the door, “Let’s go.”
The two friends made their way down the hospital corridor side by side, but few words were spoken as they sipped their delicious treats.
“It may be good,” Ramsey finally confessed, “but I’m still the connoisseur, not you. I was the one who stayed behind to drink Kona in Hawaii while you were off engaged in who knows what kind of pedestrian activity.”
“Mmm. I was off at the beach, boogie-boarding and having the time of my life because I was in Hawaii. Oh,” he smirked, raising his coffee for another sip. “And I was with your girlfriend to boot.”
He laughed silently as he watched his friend's jaw clench. He was too easy.
“Relax! Relax, buddy! I love Kaycee, but not in that way. And, even if I did, that woman has eyes for no one but you.”
He watched as his friend's cheeks turned a light shade of red, knowing that had nothing to do with the coffee’s temperature.
“I question her judgment at times,” Ethan whispered, “but I think you’re right.”
“You’re a lucky man,” Tobias said, patting his friend's back. “Maybe I’ll get lucky and meet someone that amazing who adores me like that someday.”
“Yeah, well, not in this universe, buddy. Maybe in another, but not in this one. But I’ll admit….”
“What’s that, buddy?”
“This coffee kicks Derry’s ass.”
