the way ung and yeonsu are sit on the couch the way they're holding hands and looking at each other with a comforting look the way they're dressed with the same palette of colours the way she says she won't go home until he's asleep and the camera focus on the jujube fruits in the plate on the table to emphasize the fact that he doesn't need them because if she's here he doesn't have trouble sleeping anymore the way im fucking devastated by all these things

aaaand it's finally my all time favourite and the best
our beloved summer
bringing to us from the witch, kim dami and choi wooshik. and damn, do they look cute together.
our beloved summer is about growing up, problems of a distracted mind, and problems of am overly focused one. it describes how despite all hardships in life, sometimes all you need is someone to push you through those difficult times.
picture twenty five twenty one, but with a happier ending.
we have choi ung, the artist. kook yeon su, the strict one, and ji ung, the one sided pining lover (the horse boy from vincenzo 😭).
i. the acting. dear heavens. keep in mind, this was one of the first dramas i watched. i was completely unimpressed by ung's hairstyles and mannerisms and yeon su's coldness. ji ung seemed expressionless and i was not hooked at all. BUT THEN, like a saviour, came the salt and water scene. it was actually then that i understood - the show isn't going to be known for its grand gestures or huge confessions. it's going to be known for the little things, the deeply buried doubt and insecurities of both ung and yeon su.
ii. there's a constant shift between the past and the present, in both of which they're shooting a documentary. typically, there's no reason for such a documentary to be shot again. but once we see the nostalgia of the producer, it all makes sense. from the immature kids they were in high school to the still maturing adults they are. nothing beats yeon su saying she wants a guy who's mature and ung waving a broom from behind. yes ma'am this is the guy you ordered
iii. emotion management top tier. as someone who's lived in the constant struggle to be liked and to stay on the top, yeon su's multi layered character gave me a sense of comfort. as a distracted mind, always here and there for acceptance and finding something that makes me truly happy, i found my home in ung. there's no grand confession that makes everything happy and dandy. it made me wonder if these gestures are overrated after all.
this was such a long rant.
ive had longer reviews than this, but i think if i stretch this longer you're gonna get bored.
to all my people who got bored and left this drama halfway between - give it a chance. try to not see it as a kdrama with quirky music and funny leads but as real people, through layers of experiences and failures.
if you still don't like it, watch the wooga squads review live review of obs 🔪

Personal Out Beloved Summer Rant
When the characters are dumb why not just let them stay dumb oh god.
They had such amazing chemistry, but something happened when they got back together, idk if this continued cause I didn't wanna be disappointed, but they just...
I missed the bickering and stuff, they were cute but... It kinda lacked chemistry.
Same for the moment of getting back together, I didn't feel it.
I felt it when they touched hands or took care of eachother, or even when Ung spoke up in that restaurant.
Something broke in the middle of that /date/ and I'm still salty over it.
Just come on.

new and/or returning muses 😎
yoon jeonghan as mino paek — 26, he/him, soloist, gay. good guy who started with collabs in the us and then gained traction internationally; has a rep for being a bad boy when all he wants to do is stay home and play wonderwall on his guitar ... c'mon man ...
kim chaewon as chanel moon — 21, she/they, professional snowboarder, bisexual. 5-time x games gold medalist working her way to the olympics. she also studies mechanical engineering at university, though many suspect that she got in due to her influence and popularity ( is it true ? who knows ? ).
nadine lustre as cam del rosario — 27, she/they, model, bisexual. out of touch beach babe who solves all her problems by getting new tattoos. a little manipulative, sure — but when you're pretty they let you get away with anything, don't they ?
ha sooyoung as somin seo — 25, she/her, pr agent, pansexual. always pragmatic and level-headed, she's done her best to make it where she is now despite starting off with very little in life, and she knows better than to be reckless and lose it. inspired by kook yeon-su from our beloved summer.
saoirse ronan as thena prince — 28, they/she, model turned pr agent, pansexual. fun and energetic, thena's the complete opposite of somin when it comes to running the firm; they're very close with the local football team, as she used to date some of the players before realizing they wanted to be a little more independent. inspired by keeley jones from ted lasso.
sabrina carpenter as fallon bailey — 23, she/her, tarot reader scammer, bisexual. generally, airbenders are seen as being able to bestow good luck and blessings and fortune upon others. thankfully, fallon isn't like other girls !
zayn malik as henry noor — 27, he/him, lecturer, pansexual. teaches french at the same university he graduated from. buys excessive amounts of tea. thinks "pretentious" is a compliment.
manny jacinto as colin arciga — 31, he/him, butcher serial killer, bisexual. the pride and joy of his small town despite not having finished med school for quote unquote "disciplinary reasons." very charming, if you can stand the sight and smell of blood.
