I have two questions for you

1. How did this fic start? Like, what made this idea spark in your head and say "yes, I wanna write this"?

2. Maybe it's me who didn't get it, but in your fic world are humans aware of the existence of these creatures? I know they are a band, do they perform in front of human audiences, monster audiences, a mixture of them because monsters hide among humans?

Hey there! Thank you so much and I'm so glad you like it!!

1) i always love monster AUs. Alternate worlds were my fave part of any fandom and imagining monsters was extra fun. My fave books as a kid were about monsters and creatures living kinda ordinary lives. A good book series as a kid was Phredde the Fairy which had such a well thought out world that incorporated magic so easily with the real world.

I also love the idea of how what monster you pick to represent yourself can show your personality. For me i would be a Frankenstein monster cause I feel I'm made of lots of different pieces all sewn together and trying to be human.

You can play around with characters so easily, have the wolf transformation of a werewolf represent feeling out of control or having to lock away and hide a part of yourself.

A ghost can represent wanting to be seen and heard but always being ignored and fading into the background.

You can make it as deep as you want or you can just want to play with some fun powers and interesting scenarios.

For me I really wanted to just have an AU I could play with. I could make a whole world for, with lots of backstory and detail and I could make it complex or it could be read as just light-hearted fun.

I'm probably autistic so having character traits be manifested as physical things (bojan's whore tendancies= he is a sex demon) make it easier for me to write them and understand them. Jan's tail can express his emotions even if he doesn't as much irl.

(Also artwork in this universe is much easier and fun to do cause they all have distinct look lol)

(Sorry that got long. TL:DR I just wanted to play with a world I made)

2) I haven't addressed it really but monsters and humans exist alongside one another in relative harmony. Well as harmonious as humans get. Joker Out is slightly unusual in that every member is a monster but yeah there's humans who like them. Humans are boring to write about though so I don't bring them up.

Several monsters start off human. Kris was a human until he was 19 and was then turned (Martin was also turned) and Nace is made from pieces of human but made a monster by combining them together.

I considered making some background and crew characters human but that's much less fun to play with than monsters so I just never brought up who was what.

Basically think of any monster race as like a different human race or disability or anything really. Everyone knows they exist, some places have higher concentrations of certain types, some places are more prejudice, some are more accommodating.

They're as normal and diverse as people having different hair colours.

Thank you for lettin me info dump! im going to start off with the theme and the most flushed out character i have!

In my au, everything is the opposite, mainly the theming of many of the characters. of course, to trully get this right, the characters have to be other characters. so instead of Noelle Holiday, we will have Jackie Hallow, whose themes have shifted from a scared christmas reindeer, to a brave/cocky halloween werewolf. instead of being smart and scholarly, they are on the school's sports team with berdly's replacement. in the dark world, she's switching from ice themed to ones of fire instead, with snowgrave being replaced by one that resembles a witches pyre, with a ring of fire obscuring anyone on the inside. also her outfit switches to a Red riding hood theme, to go along with the wolf aspect of Jackie. Please let me know if you want to hear more about the other characters!

O. M. G. I love this concept! It sounds like it has its own unique twists, while still keeping it close enough to the original theming!! (the names definitly keep it original tho 0w0 sounds like it could be its own fun game hah!) The prospect of the Christmas theming to Halloween theming is genius and I can only imagine the fun switches with the other characters! Kris could be Faris? Fara? and literally just have a similar color scheme to Frisk rather than Chara. Susie... could be more nice? Maybe fairy like to offset the dragon-like/sharptooth appearance? EEE this sounds like a very fun AU idea.

elf!kris (sad) is past!bokris getting together but Kris kind of. accidentally bewitching Bojan? because of his elvish nature, and he doesn't want it because they don't need it but he can't stop it and it gets all sad and angsty

“My dear.” The hand on his face is gentle, parental, and Kris wants to duck away from it. “My dear, this will tear you apart.”  “It won’t,” Kris whispers but his mother shakes her head.  “You can’t forever turn a blind eye to it.” It only takes a hand softly pressed against his eyes and words murmured into his ears, a melody as intimate as it is strange, to make his resolution crumble in front of him. He grimaces but doesn’t cry when the images become clear to him, all the blink of an eye moments when the affection tipped into obsession, when fondness became madness in the briefest of moments.  “Let him go, and you both will be all the more stronger for it.” “How will I know, then? How will I know that this is real?”  “Give it time, and you will see.”  And Kris hates it, hates how time can take on the meaning of nothing and everything, how to him a second can stretch into eternity while eternity still remains too elusive for him to grasp, never having been equipped with the tools to deal with it. He’s heard of it, of how dangerous strong emotions can be for the fae, nature only too eager to tangle the lines between sincerity and obscurity, a mischievous riddle to be solved. His mother has told him of love stories that have taken ages to unfold, of humans who didn’t live till the end of their day to see it and he fears for what time will bring for them. 

but then I was like, man this is sad. really just too sad, even for a sort of fairy tale. i don't want them to be that sad. how about I don't write them angsty for once in my life and this is why I started elf!Kris (not so sad); which is basically Kris having such strong emotions that they affect how music is played, even though he's not really aware of it. But then they notice it and ask him about it at some point and he has to admit that's uuuuh. love magic! and that there might be a person he kind of fell in love with from the very beginning on, shocker.

“I swear such a person can’t be real,” Bojan says, eyes following Kris Guštin’s figure as he leaves the practice room. “He has everything, and still is — like that. What’s wrong with him, seriously.”  Martin gives him a look, sympathetic at first, and then only shakes his head.  Somehow, the next time they have another practice session, the chords flow smoother into each other and Bojan can swear that there’s a weird sort of spark in the air, right where Guštin’s eyes met his for the first time.

AU ask game: fairytale au!! your choice on which fairytale and which characters

Hi, Vera! Five headcanons for a fairy tale AU, huh...its hard to pick one so I'll just give five fairy tales that I think would fit five different (groups of) people? Under the cut!:

The Frog Prince -> MJF the princess who becomes indebted to (insert Max Caster's fursona here) after he saves his Dynamite diamond ring from a well. You wouldn't even have to change very much, the abhorrent admirer angle is already built in.

The Fisherman and his Soul -> fun fact: the shadowboxverse actually started life as a vague AU for this (one of my fave fairy tales)! As such I am still attached to the idea of Adam Cole being involved in some way—perhaps as the mermaid for whom the fisherman willingly gives up his soul (and therefore forsakes God) for? Idk who the fisherman would be though (for reference, his soul becomes pissed and turns evil and tries to kill the fisherman for separating from it).

I mean, El and Poke and I already did a Little Mermaid AU, so: that! For a new headcanon though, I always thought Sabre the sea witch wasn't ALWAYS so powerful—to get there he had to give up something himself (probably something to do with "home"). To who or what though, I don't know.

The Snow Queen -> one of my other fave fairy tales! Honestly I think I'd really enjoy it if it was like...totally platonic Kai as Orange Cassidy and Gerda as Kris Stat. Probably Willow as the little robber girl (AKA the real ship with Gerda/Kris LMAO). The Snow Queen herself would be...IDK. OH—Snow Queen Julia, Kai as Skye Blue, Gerda as Willow, little robber girl as Kris. Yeah that works

I don't know how I can top that fourth one...so I won't try. There absolutely should be a Kolschei the Deathless AU in wrestling if there isn't one already.

God, the whole Nightwing-Flamebird romance just skeeves me the fuck out, not just because Chris is a twelve-year-old in a speed-aged body, but because the characters originated as a parallel for Batman and Robin.

Literally nothing was happening between Jimmy and Clark. Van-Zee saw Ak-Var as an apprentice and sort of a son. Ak would eventually become Van's son-in-law. They wrote Bette having a crush on Dick not because he was going to be Nightwing eventually, but because he was her counterpart.

Therefore I propose an AU where everything else in this arc stays the same, but the romance angle is thrown in the flaming dumpster where it belongs. Thara Ak-Var is a young woman who grew up on fairy tales and stories of her father and grandfather's adventures, eventually taking on the mantle of Nightwing herself. She finds a twelve-year-old boy trapped in the Phantom Zone, and frees him. He tells her his name is Kris-Kent, but he doesn't remember much else yet. She takes him in as a ward, because where else is he going to go?

Still, the boy is sweet and compassionate, and he has a strong sense of justice and a fire in his heart. Thara starts to think of him as a little brother, and when his nightmares wake him up, she tells him bedtime stories of Nightwing and Flamebird, the legendary heroes of Krypton.

Kris finds out his new big sister is Nightwing, and insists he join her as her Flamebird. As they go around on Earth, tracking down Zod's sleeper agents, Kris pieces together more and more of his life, eventually remembering being both Lor-Zod and Christopher Kent, and has a tearful reunion with Lois, his mom. Thara starts to see that the humans aren't as helpless or as weak as she'd thought, and gains a new appreciation for this world and its people, by seeing it through Chris's eyes.

He eventually starts going by Kris-El in Kandor, staying with Thara while there, and she gets officially listed as his cousin through her maternal grandfather, Van-Zee.

A Prompt that came from a Challenge

(Well, not quite from the challenge of @natedogx15, but it motivated me to post it here)

 This is an AU that involves Indie Horror RPGs (I haven’t played all of those below, but I know the basic plot of most), Winx Club and Steven Universe. The AU of @ask-the-rpg-3 was what gave me the idea.

Besides the dimension of Earth, where us humans live on, there are a lot of different dimensions. Some of them are the Monster Realm, the Paintings Realm, Shadows Realm, Plants Realm, and, most importantly, the Sorcerers Realm.

The Sorcerers come from a Magic Dimension, and they are ruled by the three most powerful sorcerers, who are also immortal. Their society is harsh and cold, where you must obey all the rules if you don’t want to be punished.

These sorcerers, to get more and more powerful, travel from realm to realm to steal their mana/life essence, leaving these dimensions barren and lifeless.

A Sorceress, a long time ago, though, decided to fight for Earth and started a rebellion. Her name was Fran Bow, a sorcerer of the cosmos. Their group name was the Mages of Gaia.

The mages thought against the sorcerers to save the planet and managed to do that… but, there was a cost. The fourth leader needed to be eliminated.

Her three siblings were furious, and, on a last attempt, they cast a curse on most rebels, transforming all of the mages into monsters.

However, these mages left children with dormant magic blood, that only needed a small spark to be activated.

Fran, who protected herself with a powerful enchantment stayed alive and safe.

Years passed, and, for some mysterious reason, 4 descendants, after generations, unlocked their magical potential, and need to be trained by Fran Bow, specially considering the threat of more sorcerers coming back to Earth.

Now that the story is explained, time to talk about the magic system. The magic system is similar to Winx, except that there is no difference between wizards, witches, and fairies. They are all sorcerers here with magic transformations (magic winx, enchantix and so on, but no wings).

The main 4 characters are:

- Sunny, the sorcerer of dreams (Omori): He has the power of manipulating Dream Energy (basically blue lantern powers), reading people’s thoughts and so on.

- Madotsuki, the sorceress of absorption (Yume Nikki): She can touch objects and absorb their abilities (like, touching a candle gives her fire powers. Yes, this ability is inspired on her effects of the game).

- Kris, the NB sorcerer of determination (Deltarune): his magic allows him to create a magical aura that enhances his natural abilities (he can get super-strengh and speed, as an example).

- Ib, the sorceress of plants (Ib): she can manipulate and create plans (but Fran is teaching her how to create portals between realms).

 The other characters are not quite their own selves, they are mostly Steven Universe Counterparts:

Fran Bow: Rose Quartz.

Mr. Midnight: Lion.

Ryo (Crowscare), sorcerer of light: Peridot.

Embry (It’s not me, it’s my basement), NB sorcerer of Crystals: Lapis (Being trapped in a mirror kept them as a child).

Amanda (Amanda the Adventurer), sorceress of shape: Bismuth. (Being Trapped on Mr Midnight kept her from aging too).

Aya (Mad Father), sorceress of death: Jasper.

Misfortune (Little Misfortune), sorceress of Dimensions: Pink Diamond.

Venna (Crowscare): White Diamond.

Rune (Crowscare): Blue Diamond.

Alfred (Mad Father): Yellow Diamond.

 The rest, I haven’t decided, but, the one writing it can come up with it.

Remembering that, in this universe: Omori good route events would have happened, Ib’s events wouldn’t have happened, Deltarune’s wouldn’t have happened either (and the monsters would live in their own realm), and Yume Nikki’s events, well… they are dreams that happen time and time again, so, they did, but can happen again (except the ending).

Xiumin / 시우민 Occupation: Pokémon Breeder *Alolan/Ice Z-Move* Ninetales (Ice/Fairy) Base - 505

Too this day I still don't get how he's 32 and he literally looked like one of the youngest to me, Kim Minseok what the hell do you eat and your skin car routine. Anyways he's a Pokémon Breeder and I gave him an Alolan Ninetales. The Ice Type should have been obvious with the members canon powers but I just think Ninetales is beautiful just like our mans here, and I can picture him having a Vulpix and I'm just dying at the thought.

I feel like Xiumin would be amazing at taking care of Pokémon eggs and even baby Pokémon. IT WOULD BE SO CUTE! (^///^) Also he gives off the vibe for being such a caring trainer. And additionally he would be a strong trainer with his time training with his other members.

Suho / 수호 - Former Champion Occupation: Primary/Elementary School Teacher *Mega* Swampert (Water/Ground) Base - 535 to 635

JUNMYEON!!!!!!! I made him the Former Champion which means in my personal canon of this AU thing, he was defeated by Taeyong and I gave him a Swampert that can mega evolve. Reason for Swampert was not only because his power is water but also from its absolute powerfulness and I like to think he would have a strong bond with his Pokémon team like what he has with his members.

I read somewhere that if he weren't an idol he would be a teacher and I'm Aussie so we say Primary but I made him a Primary School Teacher because I think he would be so caring for his students. And his Swampert would be so loving to the students \(￣︶￣*\))

Lay / 레이 Occupation: Producer and or Composer *Mega* Audino (Normal to Normal/Fairy) Base - 445 to 545

I know technically he left SM but I don't give a shit, Mr Yixing is a Producer and or Performer with a mega Audino. It was like obvious he would get a Fairy Type for his healing powers but he would be so sweet with Fairy Types in general for me. I think he would have a wholesome relationship with his Audino and they would be strong ass battlers together with THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!

Can't decide between a Performer or Composer though I read somewhere that if not an idol he would be a Composer. Either way he's amazing at both occupations. And Fairy Types have little weaknesses so he would be strong against a lot of other Pokémon's.

Baekhyun / 백현 - Former Elite Four Member Occupation: Pokémon Contest Idol *Mega* Altaria (Dragon/Flying to Dragon/Fairy) Base - 490 to 590

BACON *cough* *cough* I mean Baekhyun is a Pokémon Contest Idol and a Former Elite Four Member. Reason for Altaria was because its such a cute ass Dragon Type that turns into a Fairy Type when mega and what other Pokémon was I supposed to give him with his power being light.

Even if Baekhyun wasn't an idol he would still be something in the kpop entertainment industry in my opinion and others from what I read online. His voice and dancing skills would be amazing while doing a performance and it would be magical if he does it with his Altaria.

Another vocal king Chen or Jongdae, he is a Vocal Trainer with an Ampharos that can mega evolve. Imagine him with his Ampharos with his family and his kids, his Ampharos would be so gentle with his kids it makes me die from the thought (p≧w≦q)

I read somewhere that he would be a Vocal Trainer if he weren't an idol. Though I personally think just all his Pokémon would be really caring and protective of his family which I feel the need to put here.

Turns out I can write! So here’s a sort of “Beginnings Part 0.5” for my aaml au! It’s under the cut! It’s here! It has Klavier and Plagg interactions! Enjoy!

Klavier had known his brother was hiding something for a long time. About seven years, in fact. Kristoph didn’t seem as suspicious when they were younger… in fact, he seemed cool. He always had decisive evidence the prosecution and detectives were unaware of, and kept calm under pressure, almost like he knew the situation would always work out in his favor. That was how Kristoph became known as the coolest defense in the west.

But the older Klavier got, the more suspicious it all was. How did he always find decisive evidence that the detectives and prosecution overlooked? Why was he so confident that he’d have that decisive proof? And how did he know Phoenix Wright would use a forged piece of evidence in a trial that had not yet begun? Was it connected to Zak Gramarye firing him the day before? And when Kristoph was convicted of murder, it only confirmed Klavier’s suspicions. His brother was definitely hiding something, and he’d be a fool to think it stopped at one murder.

Since Kristoph was in jail, now seemed like the perfect time to look for answers in his office. A little technically-legal snooping would surely uncover something. Unfortunately, his office appeared oddly secret-free thus far.

If I was pretentious and petty, Klavier thought to himself, where would I hide my deep dark secrets? His eyes wandered around the room, eventually landing on the large painting hanging behind his brother’s desk. A lot of prosecutors hid their regulation safes behind paintings and the like. Perhaps defense attorneys did the same? Did they even have safes?

Sure enough, with the painting out of the way, Klavier had access to a small safe with a keypad. A four number combination... he could just look up the best way to break into a safe, but maybe it’d be better to try a few obvious combinations first. He could put Kristoph’s birthday, his-

No way. He actually used his birthday as a combination? Did he forget that his birthday can be found by anyone with a quick Google search? How is he that dense? Maybe I’ve been overestimating him.

Shaking his head at his brother’s stupidity, Klavier peered into the safe. Disappointingly, there was nothing inside but a small black box. Still, it was something. He unclasped the lid, knowing he was prepared for whatever may be inside.

He was not prepared for what was inside.

A bright light flashed from the box, making Klavier long for the sunglasses he used to wear everywhere. What, he thought it made him look cool. He was seventeen, cut a guy some slack! And hey, his fashion sense had improved since then, and he didn’t wear his sunglasses indoors anymore. Or in the rain. Or at night. But if he’d known Kris had the goddamn sun hooked up to this box, maybe he’d have worn sunglasses!

He blinked rapidly, trying to chase away the dark spots in his vision. He cautiously peeked back at the box, but saw nothing there but a small black ring. As he wondered why there wasn’t some kind of lightbulb inside the box as well, he heard an exaggerated yawn from behind him.

“How many more times are we gonna do this? I told you I don’t know anything else! If you’re not gonna give me cheese, at least let me sleep,” groaned a… ok, he didn’t know what that was. Some kind of fairy… bug… cat? The tiny floating black thing blinked its big green eyes at him. “What, trying a new look? You want my advice? Doesn’t work for a guy with your personality. You’re too prim and proper. It’ll never work. Trash it, go back to your stuffy suits. And for the love of camembert, cover your-”

“Hold it!” Klavier interrupted. “I don’t know what a… whatever you are knows about fashion, but who exactly do you think I am? What’s this about my personality? How could I not be rockin’ enough to pull this off?”

“Alright, first of all, I’m a kwami, you know this, BLOURGH!” The kwami(?) hacked up a cloud of green bubbles. Gross. “Oh. Guess you’re noooot… a person whose name I can’t say. So who knows, maybe you can pull off the look after all.”

He blinked. Alright, so this is a “kwami.” It can’t say someone’s name. Probably my brother’s. Gottverdammt, Kris, what were you doing? I expected normal corruption, not weird… magic… whatever. Am I dreaming? Is this a nightmare? He pinched himself, but much to his dismay, he did not wake up.

The kwami thing spoke again. “Uh, you good? You look like you’re gonna pass out. Or maybe throw up. Ew, that’d be gross. Don’t do it at me.”

I probably don’t look “good,” do I? I can’t believe I thought I was ready for anything. How did I ever think that? I need to sit down. He collapsed into the nearest chair, his brother’s desk chair. It was ridiculously high-quality, far more than anything else in the office. Sitting in it felt like being a grade-schooler, sitting in a teacher’s desk chair when they were out of the room… though with Kristoph in jail, there was no risk of being caught. He couldn’t come in and act upset in that specific way that made Klavier not want to leave his food and drinks unattended. He understood that there was no real risk here, but even so…

The kwami spoke again, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Ok, so since you’re clearly not, uh, that guy, I gotta bring you up to speed on a few more things.”

Klavier laughed weakly as he rubbed his temples. “I see, more information. Why not, it’s not like this can get any more confusing. Go ahead, little kwami. Tell me everything.” That is why I came here, after all.

“Don’t call me little kwami, my name is Plagg, so use it! Plagg.” the kwami (Plagg, apparently) griped, drawing out his name. “I’m basically a tiny god, so show some respect. Let’s see, what does “everything” mean… you probably want to know that I’m bound to the ring in this box, I grant the power of destruction to my wielders, blah blah blah boring, but what you need to know is that I love cheese. Camembert, brie, mozzarella… you name it, I eat it. If we’re gonna be buddies—which obviously, you want to be my buddy—then you gotta give me cheese. Camembert is the best, of course, but anything stinky is good. The stinkier the better, that’s what I say! And of course cheese doesn’t have to be pricey to be good, but expensive cheeses are usually-”

Plagg’s cheese monologue was interrupted by a loud crash, followed by what sounded like an eagle screeching, a siren going off, and a crowd screaming.

Plagg grumbled. “Great, sounds like some idiot decided to go nuts with their miraculous. I wouldn’t have been let out otherwise. Let me guess, you “have to stop them” or whatever?”

“I have to stop them! It sounds like people are getting hurt!” Klavier ran to the window. “Smoke coming from the prison… scheiße. You, come with me,” he told Plagg, grabbing the box and quickly crossing to the office door. “If you really are a tiny god, you can use your powers to fix this.”

“Slow down, Mr. Rockin’ Outfit, I don’t “fix” things. And besides, I can’t use my power willy-nilly, as much as I may want to,” Plagg grumbled.

“Why not?

“You ever seen a dinosaur? Like, a living, breathing dinosaur?”

“No?”

“Exactly. And if I cause another incident, the guardians will get mad at me, and then I’ll be in trouble, and that’s no fun. Plus, it’s tiring to use my power myself, and that’s no fun either! So, if you’re gonna make me help, you’re gonna do the heavy lifting for me. Take my ring-”

“The one in the box?”

“What other ring is there? Just say “claws out” to transform. And have some cheese ready for me when you go back to normal! There’s an instruction manual in your baton once you transform, so I’m not gonna bother explaining anything else… but remember the cheese!”

“I… wait. Transform? What, like a magical girl?” Klavier asked as he slid the ring onto one of his free fingers. Remarkably, it changed its appearance to match his other silver rings. That would certainly be useful if this became some kind of permanent arrangement.

“Not explaining anything else!” Plagg shouted over another crash.

Another crash. Right, the whole people-are-in-danger thing. Life-saving first, questions later. “Plagg, claws out!”

There's also a b plot with dream being a changeling and a fugitive in fairy society who appears in drista's back yard (a kid that kris regularly babysits) and who immediately makes him her adoptive older brother

Another funny premise that I already have four chapters is a what we do in the shadows au where Wilbur is new vamp and is just trying so damn hard to be a good one who accidentally adopts a dirty werewolf child and is accidentally adopted by two very powerful ancient vampires...who are absolute nerds. I won't reveal anything abt kristen but just know she's there (it's called ghouls ghosts and home btw)
