Japanese LCDR Shunsaku Kudo gave an order to rescue 422 enemy British sailors during a battle in WW2. It’s called Bushido; the Japanese Samurai spirit. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/59721642/shunsaku-kudo Naval officer. On March 2, 1942, during the Battle of the Java Sea, which began on February 27, 1942, Lieutenant Commander Shunsaku Kudo, ordered his crew on the destroyer "Inazuma" to rescue 442 survivors from the Royal Navy destroyer HMS "Encounter" and United States Navy destroyer USS "Pope." These ships had been sunk the previous days, along with HMS "Exeter." The survivors had been adrift for some 20 hours, in rafts and lifejackets or clinging to floats, many coated in oil and unable to see. These sailors had reached the limits of their endurance when the Japanese destroyer "Ikazuchi" appeared before their eyes. Lieutenant Commander Kudo and his 220 men were on board. Kudo gave an order to rescue the enemy sailors. They hoisted the international maritime signal flag to indicate that rescue operations were in progress and bravely set about rescuing the survivors. This had been a never before seen humanitarian act, as the rescue required almost all of the 220 of the Japanese soldiers to leave their posts, exposing the "Ikazuchi" to enemy attack and consume much more fuel than needed. Kudo landed all his prisoners to safety. Subsequently, all crew involved in the rescue were sunk together with the "Ikazuchi," except Kudo, who had since assumed command over a different ship. Kudo kept silent after the war and it was only through one former British sailor, who had come to Japan to find and thank Kudo, that the Japanese people were able to find out about the honorable actions of Kudo and his crew.

Sesja #570
TV/Anime: Shunsaku Kudo - pierwowzór Spike'a
Kogoś o wyluzowanym, lekkomyślnym podejściu do życia. Tym kimś okazał się Shunsaku Kudo (grany przez Yūsaku Matsudę) - bohater japońskiego serialu kryminalnego Tantei Monogatari (Detective Story). Zarys fabuły był dość prosty: prywatny detektyw opuszcza szeregi policji San Francisco (!) by w gajerze, lenonówkach i Camelem w ustach rozwiązywać zagadki japońskiego przestępczego światka.

Trance Minako Ranking
Tumblr media
I got asked to do a recap of this old quest, which roughly translates to ‘Rainbow Guide’.
Trance Minako’s ranking is a continuation of her six star quest, Fine Day Tomorrow. This ranking starts with Minako reflecting on the events from the previous quest. She could not stop thinking about those three days she spent with Takuya as her bodyguard. Even when Lost happened, her thoughts still revolved around him (this is probably why she wasn't even aware she had become a tamashii).
Tumblr media
The sky split, a sudden gust blew. We were illuminated by a light that was not from the Sun. It was almost like the end of the world...I wonder if this was how his beloved Ancient Civilisation also ended.
In Fine Day Tomorrow, Takuya and Yuki helped her realise she was a tamashii. Now that she has finally come to terms with that fact, Minako really wants to see Takuya again. She follows his thoughts and arrives in Lost World, which looks like the actual end of the world.
Tumblr media
Takuya doesn't know where he is or who he is. Yuki tells us to collect spheres and she will fight as normal, but Takuya does not know why he is fighting. It appears the real Yuki is not actually with him. Takuya subconsciously created the current Yuki from his own thoughts in order to protect himself, because he would be unable to cope if he were alone.
Tumblr media
Minako realises Takuya created a fake Yuki as a psychological coping mechanism in order to protect himself.
Takuya has been fighting in this apocalyptic landscape the whole time, all for Yuki’s sake. As Minako realises this she become irritated and tells him to pull himself together. In his confusion, and because he's been fighting tamashii memories without knowing why, Takuya attacks Minako too. But she doesn't give up. Because she has something important she wants to tell him.
Minako gets back up again and again, shouting insults and pleading for him to move forward.
Her feelings finally reach their peak and she transforms into her trance form. Using her new power, she hits him with all the strength of her feelings.
Tumblr media
No matter how hard it rains, no matter how much it thunders, I won't cover my ears anymore... My voice will reach you through these feelings!
Minako’s attack works. Takuya sees a flashback and finally remembers her. Unsurprisingly, his first thoughts when he recovers his memory are of Yuki.
Tumblr media
Thanks for bringing me back. Now I have to get out of here and find Yuki.
Minako doesn’t understand why Takuya would go so far for Yuki, but after he explains its because he has a contract with her, suddenly she understands?
Tumblr media
I see...it’s just like the contract you had with me, as my bodyguard.
Minako agrees to help. She senses a place where thoughts are gathering and disappearing. It is likely Takuya might be able to escape from there.
Tumblr media
I'll guide you so… please look at me...and follow closely!
Despite her outer confidence though, inside Minako is scared. She can feel her determination getting weaker. Is she really capable of guiding him? However, now that Takuya is here beside her, she resolves to do it. Also, because she still has that thing she hasn’t told him...
Hitting Minako with our ‘thoughts’ ensures Takuya does not lose sight of her. Shortly after navigating through some dense fog, we reach the exit.
As we prepare to say goodbye to Minako, she tells us it's not actually goodbye.
Our souls will be together as long as I exist in your thoughts. I will light up your path like the sun. When you’re tired I'll make it rain gently. I'll always be beside you...but I’m not a stalker!
Takuya then has the nerve to ask why Minako helped him. God you are so dense.
Tumblr media
I...hate you!
But actually
Tumblr media
I love you
Analysis bit: Where does the portal go?
SPOILER WARNING for main story World 1, World 1.5 (Lost World) and World 2
While this ranking mainly focuses on (and gives closure to) Minako’s one-sided feelings, several interesting things were happening in the background. Literally.
It is clear Takuya is in the vicinity of Lost World, but why? And when? Story-wise, I believe this quest occurs either directly before, or directly after the Lost World main story segment. In figuring out the answer to this here are some key points to consider:
Why did Takuya lose his memories? What was he doing right before that would cause his memory loss, and what impact does this have on where he ends up afterward?
Where is Yuki? The emphasis is that Takuya needs to get out in order to find Yuki. The dramatic irony is that even after getting out he likely doesn't find ‘his’ Yuki.
We are fighting Shunsaku’s memory, which is characteristic of the enemies at the start of Lost World, but the background seems more similar to later stages.
Minako claims she went looking for Takuya after he and Yuki helped her in World 1. It is not clear how much time passed between the events in Fine Day Tomorrow and Rainbow Guide
Minako said the portal is where tamashii thoughts are disappearing. Where are they disappearing to? Keeping in mind Takuya enters the same portal.
Hypothesis 1: The portal goes to Lost World
This assumes Takuya entered here directly after the events in World 1. His memory loss could be a side-effect of travelling between worlds. This area could be something like a gateway between World 1 and Lost World, which Takuya has been lost in (presumably for the equivalent of three days because the start of Lost World begins with Takuya waking up after a three day coma). Importantly, in Lost World story mode he retains his memories of World 1, which we can thank Minako for if this hypothesis is true.
A strong piece of evidence for this hypothesis is the presence of Shunsaku’s memory as an enemy. The beginning stages of Lost World have memories of the tamashii from the Transmigrational quests as opponents. If this area is full of such tamashii, it is likely they eventually go into the portal and end up as the ones we fight in Lost World story mode.
If this hypothesis is true, there is a lot of dramatic irony at play. Because while Takuya’s first thought after recovering his memories is to get out to find Yuki, in doing so he is actually straying farther away from her, because at the end of World 1 he said goodbye to her forever (or so he thinks). Perhaps his subconscious actually knows this, which is why it created the fake Yuki. This reason also makes the ending of Lost World so much stronger, because even though he never explicitly says so, it is very clear how much Takuya cares for (World 1) Yuki.
Hypothesis 2: The portal goes to World 2
This theory assumes the events in this ranking happened directly after the events in Lost World. Therefore the area would be a gateway between Lost World and World 2. It could have been created as a side effect of Takuya screwing up Souma’s attempt to reset everything. Anything could have happened, including Takuya’s memory loss.
In World 2, we realise Souma was in Takuya’s body the whole time and the real Takuya was in Chief’s body. However because this Takuya remembers Minako, he is clearly World 1 Takuya. Therefore if we go with this hypothesis, he becomes Chief after entering the portal. Importantly, Chief does also retain all his World 1 memories. When we view this through the lens of this ranking, Minako actually played a huge role in leading Takuya back to Yuki (both Yukis, because they merge anyway). Without Minako’s interference there was a very real chance Takuya would never regain his memories and live as Chief forever, leaving an easy victory for Souma.
This hypothesis also implies that right before this, he was fighting to save ‘his’ (i.e. World 1) Yuki from Idea (the bulb at the end of Lost World). Yuki was always on his mind, so it doesn’t seem strange that his consciousness made another Yuki when he lost her. This is sad because it implies he really didn’t think much of red hair Yuki. It had always been World 1 Yuki.
In that case, Takuya wants to get out to return to ‘his’ Yuki. Unfortunately for him, then, he lands in a completely different world, in a completely different body, and finds a completely different Yuki.
Where are the Lost World tamashii memories disappearing to then? Despite entering the same portal, we don't see any of the Lost World tamashii in World 2. Maybe they were all transported to different parallel worlds? Or maybe they just straight up disappeared.
As a side note, I find it incredibly amusing that I just attempted to deconstruct Takuya’s “reason for fighting” which is basically what Minako did in this quest. When I first did this ranking, I was probably only halfway through the Lost World story mode so it is incredibly rewarding to replay and find all these extra things after being up to date with all the main stories. That said, this also means my memory of some of the main story events (especially the early ones) may be a little hazy. Would welcome anybody to help me fact-check.
Final note: Kudos to Minako’s VA for making her 10x more tsundere
