Ruby: (Giggles) I'm glad you like her. Ya know, when I found out Zwei had puppies with the neighbor dog, I couldn't stop shaking with excitement. Soon as they were born, our neighbor asked us if we wanted any when they were old enough? So I got her, and she's been snuggling up to anybody she can.

Jaune: Oh, really? Well, does this snuggler have a name?

Ruby: Yeah, I... I was thinking hard about it, but I couldn't find the perfect name for her.

Jaune: Cuddles? Snuggly? Her Royal Cutie? Lady Doña Marria Isabella the Third, esquire?

Ruby: Pfft! No! No, I... I thought about it and then I noticed she didn't whine or cry at all. She seemed to put on a brave face and took on any challenge that came at her. Even when she was taken from her mom, she didn't make a sound. So I thought of the bravest name I could think of.

Jaune: And that name is?

Ruby: I named her... Pyrrha.

Jaune: ...

Jaune: (Face licked, Smiles) You're right. That name does suit her.

Above is the Memphis Belle, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.  These bombers were used heavily throughout WWII in all combat theaters, though most significantly over Europe. The Memphis Belle was the first such bomber to complete all of her 25 missions and return to the US*, where she went on a war bond tour.  She was also the subject of a 1944 documentary and a 1990 film.  The plane was named after the pilot's girlfriend back home and was taken from the film Lady for a Night; the pinup design was provided from the April 1941 issue of Esquire magazine.

You can see the ball turret in the fourth and fifth pictures.  I can't imagine being crammed in one tens of thousand of feet in the air.  That sounds absolutely terrifying.  You can also see the very many guns sticking out all over the plane to defend itself from other planes in the air.

The final picture is of the Norden Bombsight, one of most closely guarded pieces of Allied technology during WWII (though it turned out later that the bombsight wasn't as secret--or unique--as had been thought). It allowed bombers to aim with significantly more accuracy than previously, though by today's standards, it...really sucks. For example, in one bombing that send 250 bombers to destroy a ball bearing factory, only about 1 in 10 bombs fell within 500 feet of their target, and additional raids were needed to completely destroy the target. If you look really closely in the bottom right corner of the display case, you can see that the bombsight is marked as being radioactive.

*There were a few other B-17s that finished their 25 missions before the Memphis Belle, but this one was the first to return to the States.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Austin butlers new esquire article. It’s an amazing interview. He’s just so pure and humble. His maturity amazes me because I know some guys his age. They are not like that at all. It shows how amazing his mother was.

Oh Anon.... that interview was so well written....

I already knew most of the things stated in the interview about Austin, but it was nice hearing him expound a bit more on certain things, and also sharing a few things that I didn't know as well. 😊

Some of my thoughts....

Austin is so introspective and deep... you can tell he was a deep thinker, even as a kid. He's such an old soul.

I had no idea he was religious/spiritual?

I didn't know that he doesn't really drink. I guess Timmy saying that Austin was "drinking tea" in Brazil while Jason Mamoa was downing shots was true lol 😆 😂

I'm SO glad he quit smoking... 😩😭 That stuff will ruin your health. 🙏🏾

I'll admit, I was kind of shocked to see him say that he still loves and cares for Vanessa. 🥺

It seems Austin is going the Leo and Daniel Day Lewis route in trying to keep his private life separate from his work life. I know Leo has said in the past that when ppl know TOO much about your private life, it's hard for them to separate you the actor, from the character you're playing onscreen. I have to admit that there's some truth to that at times. It's harder for actors to really "disappear" in roles and be believable to the audience if the audience knows a little too much about you.

Him recounting some of the stuff that went on in his childhood was heartbreaking 💔

His mom seems like she was the sweetest woman 🥺 Parents of these actors really don't get thanked nearly enough. All of the sacrifices, driving to and from auditions, etc. Like, I know he's so appreciative for everything she did for him.

You know, it's crazy, cuz when I would see him back then on like the Carrie Diaries, or see news about him on The Shannara Chronicles (never seen that show), I had NO CLUE back then that he was going through all of this. I just remember hearing all of a sudden that his mom died, but didn't know all of that other stuff was going on at the time, and that he was having to film that show right AFTER her funeral. 🥺

I always felt like he was trying to protect his privacy and the awkwardness of having to talk about a past gf when you're trying to just promote your work. Turns out, he was also trying to protect Vanessa's privacy as well!

But her stans turned it into smthg that it was not. 😓

To me, the term "friend" is smthg that a lot of celebrities use if they want to maintain privacy.

It seems he still feels love and care for Vanessa...❤️ I mean, I guess you would when you've been with someone for nearly a decade, who was the person you were with basically your entire 20s. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Overall, very well-done interview!

Mary I's Fight For The Throne

24th July - Mary sets off on a royal progress

On the 24th July, after Mary "arranged with her chaplains that they should give thanks and pour forth prayers to Almighty God, the first and sole author of this victory" 1, the new queen of England leaves her castle of Framlingham for Ipswich.

Upon entering the city she is gifted "eleven pounds sterling in gold; with her unmatched kindness she accepted this sum with much gratitude. As soon as her Highness had entered the town, some pretty little boys presented her with a golden heart inscribed 'the heart of the people'." 2 There, Mary is reunited with her household servant Francis Englefield, imprisoned since February.

Various people flock to see Mary, offering fealty and begging pardon, including Elizabeth Howard, Duchess of Richmond and widow of Mary's half brother Henry Fitzroy. Mary refuses to see her "because of a letter she had rashly sent to the [Privy] Council, which mentioned the queen with little honour and scant respect." 3

After Ipswich Mary moves on to Colchester, lodging in the house of her mother's former lady, Muriel Christmas. Here in Colchester, she writes to Peter Carew and other esquires thanking them for their proclamations:

Trusty and right wellbeloved, we greet you well and your letter addressed hither perceive your diligence, your faithfulness and true hearts ready to serve and to have defended us against our traitors and rebels, who now God be thanked are under feet, and the chief thereof as the Duke of Northumberland and others admitted to ward in our Tower of London and other prisons. Wherefore as ye have well deserved we give you and all our good subjects in your company our right thanks, minding to consider the same to your comfort, requiring and praying you all this trouble now being overlaid, to desire our said subjects in God’s peace and ours to repair home to their dwelling places and there to remain till we shall need their further services, with continual prayer to God for his grace to preserve us and the coming wealth to his glory. Given under our signet at our town of Colchester, the first year of our reign 4

After leaving Colchester she returns to her palace at Beaulieu. Around 2am, Mary's cousin and Jane Grey's mother Frances, Duchess of Suffolk, arrives "to tell her that her husband had been the victim of an attempt to poison him, and that the Duke of Northumberland had done it. She then prayed for her husband's release from the Tower, where he had been imprisoned two days previously." 5 Mary is merciful and allows the Duke of Suffolk's sentence to be commuted to house arrest.

On the 28th, Mary finally meets with the Imperial ambassadors after sending "a special messenger to beg us to make haste and press on to our destination this same day." 6 After their arrival, between 10pm and midnight, she tells them the haste has been prompted by letters found on Henry Dudley "who was on his way back from France with letters from the King for the Lady Jane of Suffolk, whom he styled Queen of England." 7

Mary carries on her progress to London, meeting up with her sister Elizabeth at Wanstead. Elizabeth had wrote to her older sister "to congratulate her on her accession, and to beg her to let her know in what dress she desires to see her when she goes to salute her: whether her garb shall be mourning or not." 8

Now, the sisters reunite in the wake of their brothers death, and Mary welcomes her sister "with great warmth, even to kissing all her ladies." 9

Meanwhile...

On the 25th, at 3pm, the Duke of Northumberland arrives at the Tower. He, his sons and co-conspirators including Sir John Gates, Sir Thomas Palmer and Francis Hastings, earl of Huntingdon, are brought by the Earl of Arundel along "streets full of people, which cursed him and called him traitor without measure." 10

The Duchess of Northumberland is let out of prison and sets out to meet Mary, but "the Queen ordered her to return to London, and refused to give her audience." 11

After raising a rebellion to help Mary, on the 28th July Edward Hastings is sworn on to her Privy Council. A day after, his co-leader Sir Edmund Peckham is also sworn on. 12
