Contemporary weird fiction reading list
A chart of New Weird books and other bizarre, unsettling, and uncanny literature published in the last 30 years or so. This is a follow-up to my previous chart of classic weird fiction and another selection from my list of over 200 works of weird literature.

Laird Barron is my favorite living author, bar none. He is, in large part, why I decided to dip my toes into writing horror. He's in need of serious medical help and because of the glories of the American healthcare system, is in need of help. If you like creepy things, dark things, or things that feel just a little... weird, please donate to help him out, any small amount goes a very long way.

Been reading a lot of Laird Barron recently & wanted some earrings to represent his stories.
This is the symbol of ‘The Children of Old Leech’ in transparent amber acrylic, with transparent red blood drops.
I cannot recommend Laird Barron’s work enough. He’s tied with Nathan Ballingrud as my favorite modern horror author.
His mythology is exceptional, brutal, grim, & enthralling. If you’re into cosmic folk horror, it’s for you.

Massive old-growth sycamore, maple, and pine churned around me and littered the path with shorn twigs. Leaves and detritus funneled as if into the gold-black throat of the next world.

Accidental Documentary on OmniPark
$486 away from the $5,000 goal with18 hours to go...
A few weeks ago I had Ben Thomas and Laird Barron for OmniPark Rumors—Fact or Fiction? OmniPark was a theme park located near Odessa, Texas from 1977 to 2003 divided into the Seven Realms. After that show I made a comment without thinking… “You know what we should do? Make a documentary on this fictional place called OmniPark.” Without getting into too many details, here it is. Thank you to…

As one may have guessed from what I've shown of Devil You Know, Mandy (2018) has left irreparable brainworms in my head that still torment me to this day

“I blend in when I want to,” she said. “I’m the hidden figures in the grotesque of a tapestry. Look closely and I’m the one sitting in the background under a tree, naked, drinking from a horn.”

THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY FELLOW WRITERS
thanks for tagging me in the "people I like to know better" tags, but I answered all of these questions in previous tag games. I have cheerfully stolen this question list from @tellmeallaboutit, who also tagged me. Thanks, mate!
Tagging the pals who have tagged me recently in a challenge: @flamemittens, @loveless-nameless-graceless-two, @lemonsrosesandlavender. No pressure, no deadlines, everyone who wants to tackle these great questions please do so.
Last book I read: "A Lush and Seething Hell" by John Hornor Jacobs. It's two cosmic horror (Lovecraftian) novellas that fall well into the grand tradition of weird fiction. A woman befriends a tired old man who turns out to be an exiled poet. A folk music researcher gains access to an estate with some very interesting field recordings. Recommended.
Greatest literary inspiration: I haven't written enough to really analyse this, but I am fond of Laird Barron and Caitlin R. Kiernan
Things in my current fandom I want to read but I don't want to write: Idk, I currently feel like there's more on my reading list than I have time to keep up with these days
Things in my current fandoms I want to write but I think nobody would be interested in them but me: A completely wild and miserable Rugan/Tav/Gale AU in the TTRPG setting of Heart: The City Beneath (although I do have confirmation that @dustdeepsea would be well into this)
You can recognise my writing by: As I've been told, "the sucking and fucking"
My most controversial take ( current fandom ): I'm not very into the blood/guts writing and art that a couple of characters seem to attract
Top three favourite tropes: There Was Only One Bed, everyone's a whore, and there needs to be at least one scandalised onlooker
What’s your current writing mood (10 – super motivated and churning out words like crazy, 0 – in a complete rut): 4-6
Share a random frustration: Trying not to get burned out with my painting schedule
