Speculative breeding colors bull Lambeosaurus with a big dewlap doing a big stomp to impress the ladies! I realized I'd drawn lamb less than I thought, which is a tragedy because its one of my favorite dinosaurs.

For this week’s #FossilFriday, I’m posting another experiment, this time with charcoal vines and pencils. Was gonna add scales and a pattern but I didn’t feel confident enough for that just yet. This is only my second finished charcoal piece but after figuring it out through Aaron Blaise’s Youtube channel, I think I got a taste for it. Makes a hell of a mess, but that’s part of the fun imo! Already got two more pieces planned out so stay tuned for more 😉😉

Lambeosaurus
Lambeosaurus is a genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived about 75 million years ago in what is now North America. This facultatively bipedal, herbivorous dinosaur is known for its distinctive hollow cranial crest, which in the best-known species resembled a hatchet. Several possible species have been named, from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, but only the two Canadian species are currently recognized as valid. Large adult specimens of Lambeosaurus have been estimated to be around 7 m in length and 3 t in body mass.

There are many mysterious things that lurk within the fossil records. Even amongst the dinosaurs there are mysteries. One of these many mysteries is the strange lack of horn headed duck billed dinosaurs in the hell creek, the famous rock layer from which we get our trexes, triceratops, and ankylosauruses. Where were they? Were they even present? Was Edmontosaurus really the only lizard horse in this place and time?

Do you have a favorite crest shape among hadrosaurs? Personally I like Olorotitan's elegant fan shaped crest, and Parasaurolophus' iconic banana head. I also imagine that if the former had bright colors on its crest, it'd look like a giant flower-petal on its head.
Honestly, Lambeosaurus just can’t be beat. It’s a literal thumbs up.
